Checked out this fast food Mexican restaurant in Carbondale. Don Taco is better than it looks. It certainly is better than Taco Bell and that kind of shit. Has a lot of good values in the combo meals. They of course have tacos, along with burritos and nachos. Basically this is order at the counter fast food. It's got a pretty good size dining area so there's plenty of seating. This also boasts of being the only fast food restaurant with outdoor seating in town. Either way it's pretty good for the cost. This gives you a lot for not a lot. It's about $12 for the Tacos Combo. This also includes the vegetarian tacos. Comes with a drink and tortilla chips. The hot salsas gave it most of the flavor to be honest. Good place if looking for some basic Mexican American food. It's located on East Grand Avenue at Wall Street. Very fast service. Good food. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Clean. It has a fairly high ceiling & the eating area is very open (No padded booths), so it's kind of echo prone and noisy when crowded. No stairs, so it's wheelchair accessible & the bathroom is ADA compliant, but there are no automatic doors. Parking on side and back. Entrances in front or back. This is one of my absolute favorite places to eat, when I'm visiting family. The house made tortillas are unbeatable. I haven't been able to try anything other than the veggie bowl and the chicken burrito. They are both so good. The veggies in the veggie bowl change sometimes. Don Taco is Taco Bell. I had high expectations that they failed twice. I ordered two tacos(ground beef) and chicken. It had no flavor whatsoever. However, I did not give up hope. I came back and ordered chicken nachos. It didn't come with cheese or jalapeños. You have to pay extra for certain toppings. I ended up paying extra. When I ate the nachos they were chilled. They tasted like they came from the refrigerator. The employee told me that the tomatoes made them cold. I asked for a redo with ground beef. ruddest service ive experienced in a while. several rude interactions. food mediocre for the price. months ago i came and they said for to me, a paying customer, that without my receipt i could not get my food. as if i didn't order 3 minutes go, as if i want unable to read back the entire order myself, as if i dont have the transaction on my phone for the exact price of that order. Today my husband went in to the restaurant to order. He gets home and the tacos are missing half the ingredients. I call in to talk to the manager and she was extremely rude. She argued that he ordered it without lettuce and cheese. He asked for extra toppings but never said to hold anything off of it. I'm told that I can get a credit for the food. My husband calls in to give them the info needed and he's put on hold for over 20 mins. When the manager finally picks up, she cuts him off, won't let him speak, accuses me of screaming at her, and without coming out and saying it calls me a b*tch. This is the first time we've ever called in to complain about anything. Even though we've waited an hour longer than the time frame given several times, the employees arguing with us about where our address is, cold food when it's delivered, slow service, and now screwed up orders. The place is barely packed so it made getting food easy. It is no where near authentic Mexican food. More like American Mexican or Tex-mex. they use flour tortillas instead of corn. Had the steak burrito with chips on the side. The four tortilla didn't taste like a flour tortilla. Something about it was just "off". The steak was decent but I couldn't really taste much else. The chips and salsa were better than I expected and they were very generous with the amount of chips. All in all, not great, but not bad either. Chips, topped with pieces of chicken, steak, and shrimp, topped with shredded lettuce (i know it sounds weird, and i didnt like it the first time, but its acquired taste and then you'll love it), topped with white queso nacho sauce (rather on the runny side). Its a decent size for the $6.95 you pay. Also delicious is their chicken Quesadilla. Packed with tons of chicken. Online ordering interface should be different--can't leave a tip online (gives option for tip but when selected does not actually tip, banking total is only food plus deliveryplus tax, no tip added)--and selecting an address for delivery is very difficult to use.
