I stopped here during one of my visits to Marion. It was highly recommended to me by an elderly local and the reviews looked good in Yelp. The place looked great, and I had high expectations. But after one visit, that was my last. Bleh! First, they had not the friendliest staff. They were all chatting with each other and not very friendly to the customer. Not very attentive to the customer either. Wth? Where is the Mexican pride and Mexican warmth?? For this alone, I give them a 1 star. 0 if I could. I was born in Mexico, so I know good Mexican food. In my opinion, the food was very TexMex. More Tex than Mex, if you catch my drift (did they get all their food from Sysco??). I found the food to be quite insipid. The salsa tasted like it came out of a can, lacking the amazing flavors that generally give Mexican food that oomf. The fajitas were nicely presented, and the meat was good, but the accompanying rice and beans were not very tasty. Come on dudes, where's the pride in the food? Where is the Mexican seasoning?? Where is the Mexican love??? I was extremely disappointed. I guess the appeal of the place is the alcohol. But as a traditionalist who loves good Mexican food, I give this place a 1 for the taste of the food. I didn't partake in alcohol since I was just driving through. The only redeeming grace of this place was the decor and ambiance. They get a 4 or a 5. So, if you factor in the 1 for service, the 1 for the food, and the 5 for decor, I give them 3 stars. Wifey and I have eaten at plenty of Mexican restaurants over the years in Maryland. Since we moved to Marion a month ago, one of the movers suggested we check out Don Sol. Off we went. Starting with the restaurant itself, the decor and ambiance is excellent. Server brought out the standard corn tortilla chips and Salsa. These were a little different. Freshly made, warm and a great Cilantro based Salsa. Possibly the best I've ever tasted. I ordered the chicken quesadilla, rice and black beans; my wife got the Sol Cheese with chicken, rice and refried beans. The food was excellent and seasoned just right, and the drinks flavorful. Our dessert Cheese Flan was great, too. Server was very friendly and professional. Price was not bad, either. Definitely a Mexican restaurant we will be visiting again in the near future. On a road trip, in a smallish town, I really don't know what to expect from local food places. I'm not huge on chains (unless I have a reason to go like a gift card), but sometimes that means you're taking a roll of the dice. Mexican food is typically something you can count on in most places, so I find when I drive past a place like Don Sol, I will immediately get drawn in. It was bright and festive inside. Plenty of seating, and the waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. As I was alone, I just had a book and time to kill before heading back to the hotel, but they just kept checking on me and filling up my beverages for as long as I desired. As it wasn't busy in there at the time, I didn't mind taking up the booth space. The prices were quite reasonable for the portion sizes, although I was surprised to see an upcharge to get some salsa verde on the table. The red salsa was a bit bland, but the green went in the completely opposite direction. If you're not a spice person, proceed with caution. However, as I was having a chimichanga slathered in cheese sauce, the verde balanced it out and made for a lovely meal. Top with that a margarita, and the world is a happy place. I would happily come back to try more of the expansive menu. Seems pretty standard fare, but the food was filling and delicious, and when you're on the road, that's the best kind of response you could hope for. read more

A strong four star pushing to five. Beautiful building and spotless. Pleasant staff, free chips and salsa of course. Salsa was fresh and 'bright'. We had steak and chicken fajitas which were both delicious. Great flavor, lots of veggies and a plate that actually fit all of the items which makes the whole fajita process a more pleasant experience. Great fountain soda too. House margarita on the rocks was solid. Just passing through, but would definitely stop again if the stars aligned. read more

Enjoyed this place twice the past year while en route from home to Ohio. First time it was near the hotel. Second time we intentionally went there because it is so good! Portions big. Fairly authentic TexMex (like we get in Texas). Impressive menu. Enchiladas are excellent. Queso is sort of odd but tasty--much thinner than we're used to but nonetheless it is good. Both times we've enjoyed dinner on the patio. Friendly service. Next time we go through and stay in Marion we will return. read more

So we picked this place out from Yelp reviews. So if you are reading this you are the reason we went here. We picked a city and Mexican food. And picked the best based on your reviews. Worth the drive. I almost never give restaurants at five star rating but this one was worth the drive and worth every dime we spent. Both of us full with take home for about 35$. I usually try to think of something funny to say but we were hungry and this place was freaking amazing. The food came out fast. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and it was the same chicken used in several dishes but it was season differently with other things to make them individual to that dish. The service was prompt and the restaurant was clean everything worked like a well oiled machine. The tile interior reminds you of an authentic Mexican restaurant. It was loud but it was a very busy time on a Sunday. The outdoor eating area looks appealing but we were there on a 93° day. So it would be very nice at night. I was here back in January and it was a busy weekend so I completely forgot to do my review. Now, as I ponder the experience maybe a part of me slacked off because it was just so-so. We had a group of us, nothing was bad but nothing was great. The food was decent, service was okay and pricing was middle of the road. Sometimes, a forgettable restaurant experience lacks the reviewer's high praise but maybe it is up to the establishment to make sure it isn't forgettable. This is a nice restaurant and have tried it twice with each time being consistent. The service was fast and the food was delicious. The tortilla chips were warm and they always bring out several bowls of salsa. We had chicken fajitas and beef enchiladas. The chicken was well seasoned and I enjoyed it. However, the enchiladas were bland and they used a cheese sauce inside the enchiladas. I would be interested in trying some of their other dishes so we will be dining here again. read more

This is definitely the BEST place to get Mexican food in Marion. Their impeccable service and freshness of the food blows any of the other local places out of the water, and I have been to every single Mexican restaurant in this area so I can tell the differences in quality. First of all, their new building is absolutely stunning, especially the interior design. They have custom tiling, beautiful light fixtures, brand new booths, and PLENTY of seating for any party size. Wonderful atmosphere in there, super clean too. Second of all, the FOOD. My family and I ordered a pitcher of frozen mango margarita which we got almost immediately. Our waitress, Gladys, made sure our chips and salsa was always refilled, too. I ordered off the vegetarian menu, which has a decent selection, and went with the potato fajita bowl. None of us had to wait too long for our entrees to come out, but our food didn't come out suspiciously quick either like some of these other restaurants tend to do and claim it's "fresh". All of our food was hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. Nothing too salty or undercooked. My veggies were cooked to perfection; and being a vegetarian, I could tell the veggies were fresh because there was no slimy texture whatsoever. The portion sizes of the entrees are MORE than generous, we had to get boxes to finish the rest later. Props to the chefs! Last but not least, the staff here are incredibly friendly and attentive. We had mentioned that it was my mother's birthday to the greeters when we first walked in, and they definitely didn't forget to pass the message along because we got a delicious free dessert towards the end of our dinner. Our waitress was a sweet woman named Gladys and I'm not kidding when I say she is one of the most genuine and nicest people I have had as a server, ever. We made sure she received a huge tip.
