Ordered a side of roast beef NO bun was asked did I want a gluten free bun and I said NO. A side of mashed potatoes "NO GRAVY I'm allergic" I said my next order is for my husband and he doesn't require gluten free so I would like a roast beef MEAL with green beans and mashed potatoes. She said we are "out of green beans" So I said make it double mashed potatoes with the gravy on the side. I would also like a mixer with caramel she said you get one more topping so I told her marshmallow cream. All to go! When the manager brought it to the table where I was waiting it was ALL wrong. Mine was roast beef with gluten free bun which cost extra with a side of mashed potatoes WITH GLUTEN GRAVY that I made clear I can't have. My husband's came out as a side of roast beef (not the dinner I ordered)and one order of mashed potatoes with gravy on the side. My mixer barely had any caramel on the cup so I stirred it all the way to the bottom, and there was literally no caramel in the mixer. Not sure about the marshmallow cream. When I took it to the counter asked specifically to speak to a manager he turned around and he said he was the manager and I said somethings wrong with my order. He turned to another guy pointed and walked away. The younger guy asked "what's the problem" not how can I help you- I said the ticket is all wrong and so is the order as I unloaded it onto the counter to show him he said "well the ticket-says (blah blah blah)" as he starts to read it out loud I stopped him and POLITELY said I don't give a shit what the ticket says it's wrong. He responded don't come at me cussing. I said I didn't come at you and I said and I will repeat I don't give a shit what that ticket says the order is by no means what I ordered and she (girl who took order) was asking for help how to remove bun from order at time of order (obviously the help didn't know how to help her) The guy said I'll have them make a plate dinner like you ordered. I pointed out my mixer and he grabbed it and came back with it as a liquid (like milk) substance. I asked what is this and he said he would fix it. He did bring me another one only this time he put zero caramel and zero marshmallow crème. I basically got a vanilla shake. When I got home I handed my husband the food and when he pulled out the gravy and opened it he asked what is this (see video). It was like water. The whole reason for getting food there as opposed to cooking -he was at home sick while I was at my oncology appointment all day. He got dressed and took the gravy's back to show the manager and asked all the employees watching if they would eat that. Manager said no. Then why are you serving it to me or letting it leave looking that abnormal. He also inquired about running out of beans so early in the day since I was told they didn't have any. He was told it wasn't that they didn't have any they no longer offer them. Horrible experience all around. So as I sit writing this all I can think is what happened and how sad that I simply wanted what I ordered and now I have a vanilla custard in the freezer next to vanilla ice cream I can't have. Last time I went to a different location, I actually had good fries for once, so I was hoping they'd be just as good here. I asked for them extra crispy because I didn't want them soggy, but they ended up being way too hard. Sometimes they taste like they've already been fried and then thrown back in the fryer. I used to work in fast food, so I know how that can be. I'd rate the fries a 4/10. Thankfully, the line wasn't long when we went. Usually In-N-Out has crazy long lines, but we were the second car to order, so we came at a good time. They also have benches outside where you can sit and eat, which I really liked. We decided to eat out there since it was such a nice day and wasn't hot at all. Another thing I like about In-N-Out is that their prices are pretty affordable compared to other burger places like Shake Shack. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the burgers and shakes, but I really wish their fries were more consistent.

I was in and out in about 20 minutes. One thing I didn't realize beforehand is that they specialize in chicken wings and chicken strips rather than offering a full range of fried chicken pieces. They do have a few non-chicken items, though. I'll definitely be back to try the jerk burger. The chicken itself was hot, crispy, juicy, and well seasoned. Their dry seasoning has a unique flavor, but I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my order was missing the dipping sauces, so I can only judge the chicken on its own. It honestly doesn't need sauce, but I'm on a lemon pepper quest and was reaaaallllly looking forward to trying the jerk lemon pepper. The mac and cheese was probably the best I tried anywhere. Cheese pull and everything. Better than most sit down restaurants. I was also pleasantly surprised by the dirty rice. It's the first place I've found where the rice isn't mushy. The fries were well seasoned and came as crinkle-cut fries, which I actually preferred. I noticed that the fries shown on the menu and in some customer photos look different from what I received, so they may be experimenting with them. If so, I hope the crinkle-cut fries stay. I appreciated that they include jalapeños and rolls with the chicken orders. I ended up chatting with a few other customers, and they were there for the same reason I was: they'd seen Instagram videos calling Southern Jerks "the best chicken in Houston." That's a bold claim in a city with so many outstanding fried chicken spots. I wouldn't personally give it the top spot, but it absolutely holds its own and is well worth trying. It was fun watching the chicken being freshly fried while waiting for my order. My only real complaints were the missing sauces and the price. It's a little more expensive than I expected, especially considering the location, and you have Frenchy's, Popeyes, Timmy Chans, and a few other local spots all there competing. Overall, Southern Jerks serves flavorful chicken, excellent sides, and the best mac and cheese I've had anywhere. While I don't think it's the best fried chicken in Houston, it's definitely worth visiting to decide for yourself.
