My business colleagues, staying in Lyon's Falls, tried Steak n Brew for dinner here. The restaurant is slopside and in a cute old house. I enjoyed their table side Caesar and Steak Diane, both of which were great. The 8oz steak was a nice cut, the sauce was very tasty and it was fun to see it cooked table side. The Caesar was made from scratch - including egg whites - together with a story about where the salad originated. Service was warm. One caution is that the restaurant is great for a slow dinner experience. I saw a few long dates that seemed to be going well. If you need to have a quick dinner, I would make that clear when you walk in. However it really stands out in the area. read more

We had a large group but that didn't change the service one bit. We had reservations for 7 pm and were promptly seated. Everything from taking drink orders to the amazing story and table side Caesar salad preparation was performed with great efficiency, yet left us all not feeling rushed. Many dishes were orders and no ok e complained. I had a dish called Triple play, it was lobster tail, filet mignon and duck breast. Everything g was cooked to perfection. My favorite was the table side Banana Foster! Once again there was a story and interaction with all table guests. Oddly and ironically the restaurant was decorated with nothing but images of cows. Various pictures and paintings but it seemed odd since prime rib is a well advertised specialty. I would highly recommend a visit to this place. A personal favorite was receiving sorbet just prior to the main entrees being served. A simple but nice detail that isn't found in many places. Stopped in while staying in the area after being recommended by a friend. Meals were great and the service was even better. The previous owner was very friendly and made the whole experience. Food was fabulous...service was impeccable, dining room was cozy, I remember this place from years ago, it was like stepping back in time, the care that is given to all that enter, they make you feel like family, there were 8 of us, some had never been here, I have not been here in maybe 30 years, same with another couple, one couple had been here a year ago. There is not one bad word about anything. Everyone and everything was fabulous and was a joyous dinner with family and friends. Excellent Service but the food was variable. My side salad offered a single cherry tomato, the duck was well prepared but the veggies were heavily salted and mushy. My baked potato's skin was soft. Now this is a personal preference. I prefer my baked potato with a lightly salted, crispy skin and this was not it. Have not been here in a few years and sadly the food has gone downhill. Still nice (but slow) service so that is a plus. Disappointed with the quality of the steaks we got this evening. My husband's Delmonico steak was not that tender and the lobster tail was a little bit tough. My steak Diane was a bunch of non-uniform steak pieces. Some were thin and long and most were little chunks. Not very flavorful at all. Not impressed at all. Ceaser salad was still good prepared table-side. The muffins were also good that came in the bread basket. My husband really liked the clam chowder but I thought it was salty. The mashed potatoes were good along with the squash. After the hostess seated us (group of 6) she proceeded to tell us the nightly specials. She was difficult to understand because she was sucking on a cough drop or piece of hard candy. Very unprofessional in my opinion. The waitress was pleasant she brought us drinks in a timely manner and gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. It took 1 hour to receive our salads! Dinner came shortly after, no one complained about the mediocre food. Everyone ordered streak, mine was over cooked, I ordered it rare. The portions were small for the price. The sides had much to be desired. There was no choice for vegetables, everyone got a heaping tablespoon of some sort of cinnamon flavored squash that was cold. She brought out a complimentary olive tray that had sliced dill pickles, a few olives and a ramekin of macaroni salad that had more mayo than macaroni. Weird. I hadn't been to this establishment in over 20 years for various reasons but it was recommended by some friends and it was a convenient location to us to meet up. Then there was the bathroom situation. I used the ladies room before I left and I have to say I was disgusted. The dirty 1970s vinyl floor was peeling up around the edges. The sink was dirty and stained. There were 2 stalls, the one I used had a peeling, painted plywood door that had a 1" hole in it about eye level. The door had a hook and eye closure that left a good 1inch gap so anyone could see in. The restaurant overall needs updating, it was rustic but not in a good way. I was told it was recently under new ownership, hopefully they make several improvements. read more

The waitress, Helen was exemplary as well as the other nice and welcoming staff. Seems as if you are having dinner at a friends home who happens to be a wonderful cook! I dined here a few weeks ago. A restaurant can be rustic without being run down. This place is run down and dirty. The fish tank was murky, the table linens were stained and the washroom was deplorable. Toilet and sink looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months. Stumbled across this absolute 5 star gem by accident on a snowmobile trip to Tug Hill, New York. This place is a throwback to the old days of where the owner would always be out amongst the people socializing in a very welcoming way as dinner was being prepared or served. Bonus here is the owner actually does some cooking at the tables! I feel terrible as the names escape me at the moment but the owner and his lady companion who also does waitress duties are two of the sweetest pleasant people I have encountered in many years. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you make reservations for this place as they are often full and that is no surprise at all. It's not a huge place and that's okay. It's very comfortable and we totally loved the entire vibe and atmosphere of this place. MOVING ON. Big shout out to the entire staff! I must say it was very obvious every staff person clearly knew their duties and role in what is obviously a very well oiled machine. KUDOS to the owner as this does not happen by accident and kudos to the entire staff. EXCELLENT SERVICE with all details covered from being greeted to the time the bill is delivered. Something else I totally loved and really should not be a surprise. It was very clear as each table arrived and was seated it was clear the owner and staff knew most every customer who were obviously very regular patrons of this fine restaurant. Whew. Now the rest of the story. The drinks were kept full without asking. Big negative for me is emptying the first drink, no salad or appetizers or dinner has arrived yet, and the waiter or waitress asks if you'd like anymore to drink. Ummm, ya, I'll likely need a little bit of liquid to wash the meal down. Smh. Something else I noticed that was a pleasant thing. All wait staff it seemed helped other wait staff even if it wasn't their table. Huge. So a specific guy comes out to serve salads and if you have a Caesar Salad he makes it from scratch at the table. ANOTHER nice little touch to the experience is he will explain the history of this salad to those unfamiliar. I'm certain he has told the story a million times but he still tells it with conviction and sincerity. The food... yes the food.... So the salads were very good. Fresh rolls very good. I ordered the Prime Rib dinner. It was excellent which at this point was absolutely no surprise. Potato was perfect. My dinner partner had a filet which was also totally perfect. Stuffed but with everything so incredible we had to order desert which we enjoyed. I had pictures of this incredible experience but somehow they were deleted. My apologies. IF you read my other reviews you will see this is likely the most long winded of them all without doubt and there is a very good reason for that. IF YOU ARE EVER ANYWHERE NEAR THIS RESTAURANT YOU MUST STOP FOR DINNER! Ya, it's just that good. If the owner ever reads this review I have two words, THANK YOU! We will see you every sled trip we go to Tug Hill. Please note this is not McDonalds. Expect to pay up but coming from a very frugal person I guarantee this is a place you definitely get what you pay for. For someone from LA this is an unexpected find in the "middle of nowhere". An old fashioned concept restaurant, a combination of table side cooking, prime rib, steak and pasta. There was a group of five of us, with me being the only one having not been there before. I had French Onion Soup, expertly prepared, followed by Caesar Salad prepared at the table, sorbet, and a rack of New Zealand lamb. This was followed by a dessert of table side prepared Bananas Foster and coffee. It was a Sunday night on Columbus Day weekend, our reservation was for 5pm and the restaurant was constantly busy. There were four wait persons, including the owner and the service paced right - not to slow and not too quick. Having worked most of my life in Food and Beverage I observed that the wait staff worked very well as a team. Everything I ordered was cooked exactly as I wanted it and was of excellent quality and taste. The restaurant and decor is reminiscent of a 70's restaurant but works well in the North Country. Very friendly staff who welcomed guests as if they were friends. My only complaint was that the Caesar Salad, for me, could have had more anchovies. The key to any good business is to under promise and over deliver. Steak and brew; the name says nothing about the skilled service, and attention to detail found at this restaurant. A savory dish of vegetable and dip brought to our table, then a hand tossed table side prepared Cesar salad. The setting of the restaurant does not match the degree of fanciness it is trying to acquire. From the fake plants littered across the rooms to the dirty fish tanks, one might feel out of place after realizing they are trying to come across as a formal restaurant. The appetizers were great and the staff was friendly enough, though the rooms were tiny with too many tables. Plants were set up between each table to give the idea that you are in a more intimate setting, but that gets ruined when the fat guy next to you keeps pushing his chair in and out from his table. By the time our entrees arrived, the steaks were cold and were hardly cooked to order. I've tasted better steaks at Longhorn or Outback, to be honest.
