(Half) beet salad
Lisa W.

Steak 48 is a special kind of place for special occasions. We came for our 6 year wedding anniversary, to celebrate. And I let my husband spend on whatever food he wanted. He went to town. The place is big and dark. There's free parking or valet, very limited though, so we ended up parking in the next lot. To start with cocktails, I got a lemon drop. They also give you the shaker, like HOPR in SF, which was great. Got another glass out of it. It was delicious. My husband got a dirty martini. It was a little too dirty and I told him to send it back but he refused. So he drank it all. For starters- we shared a beet salad, Wagyu tartare, 2 massive jumbo shrimp, lobster escargot, and their complimentary delicious bread. We loved the lobster escargot. It's just lobster with truffle morney sauce and some caviar. That's a must get. We could have gone without the Wagyu. While it was good, it wasn't the best we've ever had, it also had this grayness to it. My husband didn't like it. I thought it was fine once you mix the capers and onions together. On to the steaks! I got myself a petite filet, medium rare, cooked to medium rare. My husband got a bone in ribeye, added lobster to the entree, got the corn brûlée, some mushrooms and mash potatoes. My steak was delicious. He let me try his steak, it was delicious too, so was the lobster on top of it. For dessert, since we were celebrating our anniversary they came with a complimentary vanilla caramel cake with some whip and ice cream. A very good palate cleanser! It was quite a pricey meal for our anniversary but what a great celebration! They even gave us a happy anniversary card, which I left it there by accident but super thoughtful. Service was excellent and we would come back for another sort of celebration. Definitely can't come here every weekend... I wish!

Fabulous!! A restaurant we visit every time we are in Del Mar. The steaks and sides are over the top. excellent wine list. The wait staff are spot on!! Fast, courteous, and ever so knowledgeable. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Highly recommend!!

We've been here twice, and both experiences have been great. The service is excellent, the food is delicious, and the ambiance is really cool. The only complaint is that the steaks are served on extremely hot plates. If you order a medium steak, it continues cooking on the plate and can become closer to medium-well by the time you eat it. Other than that, we've really enjoyed both visits and would definitely come back.

We came here for a birthday celebration. The wait staff made us feel so comfortable and special. Brian, our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and made great recommendations. The restaurant is very elegant and well decorated. The steaks here are best in San Diego. We tried the bone in filet, ribeye, and Ny strip. All three steaks were seasoned perfectly and expertly grilled. We loved the seafood, appetizers and sides. This restaurant is one of the very best in all of San Diego. We loved it here! The staff made us feel so special for our birthday celebration with a handwritten birthday card and fine dessert at the end.

How could I not love this place? I enjoyed another birthday celebration here and it was amazing throughout. From the moment I walked up to the door, the valet team ran (not kidding) to open the door for me , where I was greeted by the friendly young ladies at the counter. Our table was ready but I wanted to wait for my cousin. She reserved a quiet chef's table (my favorite spot). Our waiter brought me a birthday card and we had the very best server assistant in the restaurant. I wish I could remember her name so I could acknowledge her specifically. She was one of the best I've seen there. She was very attentive and I appreciated her effort. We both had bone in rib eye steaks, corn brûlée, hasselback potatoes, and chopped salad. The steaks arrive on a sizzling platter so it continues to cook while on your table. I usually order medium rare and it's perfectly prepared. The sides were delicious but the salad wasn't one of my favorites. A lovely vanilla cake with ice cream was a great birthday presentation. This is a popular spot and gets very busy with people having a great time so it can be loud. If I could change one thing, it would be the music selection and volume. For such an elegant, fine-dining atmosphere, I felt the style and volume of the music didn't quite complement the overall experience.

The food and atmosphere are great. Loved the ribeye with the peppercorn sauce. The hassle back potatoes were delicious too. I thought the creamed spinach artichoke was just ok. I would opt for a different side next time. The butter croissant bread they bring in the beginning is delicious. Service was friendly but a little slow when we were there on a Saturday evening. Overall I would definitely come again.

Love, love, LOVE Steak 48. Everything here is top notch, from the ambiance to the food to the service. It's definitely on the pricier side so I really only come here on business/for special occasions. Dinner for 5 was $1000+ for a cocktail, apps, dinner, sides + dessert. Food: 5/5 - highly recommend the chicken fried lobster tails to start. Can't go wrong with their filets (perfectly cooked medium rare), favorite sides include the au gratin + corn creme brûlée. Fave dessert is the warm vanilla caramel cake with ice cream. Service: 5/5 - reservations were easy (through OpenTable) and our table was ready as soon as we got in. Our server, Becky, was fantastic. Food came out timely and everything was great. Ambiance: 5/5 - a romantic, dark restaurant that's also good for special occasion dinners, business dinners or a super fancy date night. The restaurant is bigger than it appears and is very stylish & clean. Free self-parking in the lot or $11 valet. Will definitely come back again for a special occasion!

The ambiance and service were easily the stars of the evening. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, attentive, and genuinely seemed invested in making sure we had a great experience. The hospitality alone made us feel well taken care of throughout the meal. The drinks and starters were absolutely *chef's kiss*--full of flavor and a great start to the evening. Unfortunately, the entrees didn't quite live up to that same standard. They were good, but ultimately a bit underwhelming and not especially memorable, particularly for the price. That said, I still enjoyed my overall experience and would absolutely return. The exceptional service and inviting atmosphere make it worth another visit, and I'd be interested in trying different entrée options next time. Not every dish can be a winner, but the staff and overall experience definitely earned a second chance.

We celebrated our anniversary at Steak 48, and from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the experience was exceptional. We had a 9:00 PM reservation and ended up arriving about 10 minutes late, but we were still seated promptly. Valet parking was only $11 (plus tax), and the attendants were friendly and efficient. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with "Happy Anniversary!" and a handwritten note from the General Manager congratulating us on our celebration, which made the evening feel extra special. Our server, Victor, was fantastic. He congratulated us on our anniversary and provided attentive service all night. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but with their impressive wine selection, I wasn't sure what to order. Victor recommended a wine that paired perfectly with my meal, and I ended up really enjoying it. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful and elegant. Between courses, we were given warm lemon towels to refresh our hands, which was appreciated. We started with the Caesar salad, which featured a perfectly poached egg on top--a delicious twist on a classic. The crispy croutons were incredible. We also ordered the Chicken Fried Lobster Tails, and I have to say... they absolutely lived up to the hype. We have literally been thinking about them every day since our dinner! For our entrées, we ordered steak and salmon. The steak was cooked medium-well exactly as requested--perfectly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It arrived on an incredibly hot plate that kept everything sizzling throughout the meal. We paired it with the mac & cheese, whipped mashed potatoes, and broccoli. Every side was delicious, especially the creamy mac & cheese. Even though we were completely stuffed, we couldn't pass up dessert. The Red Velvet Bread Pudding was amazing and the perfect ending to the meal. We couldn't finish it, but the staff happily boxed everything up for us to enjoy later. To top it all off, one of the staff members even offered to take our anniversary photo, so we were able to capture the memory without having to ask. Every detail made this one of our favorite dining experiences. Steak 48 knows how to make a celebration feel special. We're already planning our next visit... and honestly, those Chicken Fried Lobster Tails alone are worth coming back for! Also worth adding the restrooms were clean, heated seats & a bidet.

Another 10/10 experience at Steak 48--still the best steakhouse and my favorite restaurant in San Diego. We came in to celebrate my birthday, and everything was exceptional from beginning to end. The bread was a 10, the oysters were a 10, the shrimp cocktail was a 10, and both the ribeye and filet mignon were cooked perfectly. Dessert somehow kept the streak going: the key lime pie and butter cake were both outstanding. This visit was especially meaningful because it was our first time dining here with our new daughter. The team made the evening feel genuinely special, including a handwritten birthday card that was such a thoughtful touch. The food, service, atmosphere, and attention to detail are consistently on another level. Steak 48 continues to set the standard for steakhouses in San Diego. An exceptional birthday dinner and another unforgettable experience.

We had such a great experience here. Everything was really good: the food, the service, and just the overall atmosphere. I really loved the atmosphere. It has this dark, old-world kind of feel that actually reminded me a little of Donovan's Steakhouse. I also really liked that they have these separate little room areas instead of one big open dining room. It made it feel much more intimate and cozy. Not cheap but worth it in my opinion! I would definitely come back!

Impeccable service. Delicious Wine. Amazing steak. Savory cauliflower. Great ambiance. Would always come back here. 5/5 on all fronts, including the food.

There are certain key milestones in life where the gravity of the moment requires a culinary celebration that transcends the physical food and engages the emotions. Steak 48 absolutely lived up to that calling as my wife and I were celebrating our 10th anniversary together. I booked a reservation 2 weeks out online. Steak 48 has a strict business casual dress code. From the moment we walked in, the service was fantastic from our hostess to busboy to waiter. We were treated like VIPs which really elevated the whole experience. The interior is immaculately classic with that "old money" subtle vibe. In addition to a world-class butchery, steak 48 also has a fantastic fresh seafood bar. As with any elevated dining experience, my philosophy and recommendation is always to order a wide variety of dishes and curate them in partnership with recommendations from our waiter. This experience was no different. My wife and I ordered the house bread, roasted Brussels sprouts, and hasselback potatoes for sides and appetizers. For mains we indulged in a dry aged prime bone-on rib eye, shrimp, and each ordered a lobster tail from the fresh seafood bar. Cocktails were also ordered. We ended with a complimentary anniversary dessert. The highlights were the dry aged rib eye and the lobster tail. It was a feast worthy of a king. I will most certainly be back to steak 48 to celebrate life's next milestone with my wonderful wife. We did self-parking for our first visit but I think I will use the VIP red carpet valet service at our next visit. Sometimes it's worth indulging to reward yourself for hard work. Highly recommend steak 48!

Ask the Community - Steak 48 Del Mar

How are the steaks prepared? Salamander (double sided broiler), skillet, over wood or charcoal?

You can choose I did not see wood, but you can see the kitchen so easy to watch your steak cooking!

Can you eat in the bar at Happy Hour?

We do have our full menu at our bar, but we do not have a happy hour menu.

What entrees are available for a vegetarian diner?

Not much, but you could always make a meal out of their side dishes. They have plenty to choose from.

How much for valet?

0 -tips only Someone said it used to be $20 -but no one was keeping track when we left.…

Do you have gift certificates available for purchase and if so, in what increments are they sold?

We do, you can get them online or in the store at any amount you would like.

Did I hear correctly that a corkage policy is now in effect, but it's $85? Unbelievably arrogant

My experience has been that "Arrogant" is an excellent choice of words when describing the management climate of this store.

Thankfully, they did end up, turning down the volume, so I could actually hear the friends I was at dinner with. The gentleman host was very friendly, though. I got the wedge salad and it was a bit underwhelming. It just wasn't very flavorful, but it was fine. My friends got burgers which they said were pretty good. Their health inspection score was 99/100 which is great; but that one violation they had was not washing their fruits and veggies. That is concerning to me. Because of that and not being WOW'ed by the minimal dishes I ordered, I will most likely not be returning. Great location though and very cute ambience.

I can't tell you how many times I've been here since May of this year, and eaten a LOT of pasta, but also some pizza, and quite a few meatballs. I even told my office about this spot and we had 19 people come in. Dining as a couple or just hitting the bar is great, the chef is from.....Italy, I can't remember where in Italy but I recall it's a famous wine region. My girlfriend loves that both the Chef and the owner are Women, and straight from Italy. I really like her food. It is not easy to get fresh pasta, and she serves F R E S H pasta for every pasta (that I know of). There are other things like chicken marsala, and.....seafood, although I can't recall all of them, I know they have a seafood soup because I've pondered it. They do have great clams and mussels in a spicy tomato broth. But I have yet to try the seafood soup. For a large party, I think it's important to remember a couple things, they have a smaller kitchen, so it comes out in waives, but it's not very noticeable. And the price, you honestly can't beat the price. I'm gonna emphasize that last one a lot, you can not beat the price. The view is visible from both their patios and up to areas in their bar. My favorite thing here might be the pesto, and I add salmon to it every time. it's the perfect post workout food.

We did not have a reservation and were seated in the patio. This area is nicely shaded and there was a nice breeze. The sweet hostess recommended Volcano tostadas. We weren't overly hungry but ordered that, Mediterranean ceviche, and shared a Caesar salad. The ceviche arrived first and it was so beautifully presented. We dug in and it was so fresh and perfectly seasoned. Next, the tostadas came and they were equally delicious with perfectly tender and seasoned meat. The salad arrived last and it had the most delicious croutons I've ever had. They were crispy and buttery but not overly hard. Everything was really great from the friendly service to the food. I definitely want to stop by again on the way back!

I was so excited to be back in Encinitas I was literally buzzing and Mia's made my move back a thousand times better. This is the place I recommend to anyone visiting and where I take family and friends every chance I get. It's one of those places that the minute you see it, you smile. And the second you walk in, you never want to leave. It's beautiful and has this Mediterranean sexy and pristine vibe that sucks you in. On to food- I've had most everything on the menu I think by now but I do have some favorites! -Oysters- phenomenal. They come with cucumber lime mezcal mignonette, cilantro and tajin. They are exquisite. They aren't super big ( no one wants an oversized oyster let's be real). I love oysters but if they are too big it ruins it for me. They are the perfect size and as fresh as ever. -Crispy Spanish Octopus- I am very picky with octopus and always hesitant to order it. They crush it here. Like it's not super chewy as it can be. It comes with romesco sauce, yukon (the best) potatoes, spanish chorizo and chimichurri sauce. It's wildly delicious and the only reason I don't order it every time is when I'm with someone that doesn't like octopus and I love to share things but other than that, it's one of my faves. -Hamachi Crudo- This one is so incredibly fresh and light but somehow so satisfying at the same time. It's made with mango citrus tiger's milk (uh huh), charred mango, avocado, jalapeno, cilantro, milk -Squash Blossom Quesadilla- I usually prefer to order pretty light but I came in famished beyond belief and saw this on the menu. Unreal. It's made with squash blossom, Chihuahua cheese, Oaxaca cheese, roasted poblano peppers, fire roasted tomatillo salsa, cotija, cilantro, green onion. We added chicken to it. It was SO good. And even though it was ya know, heavy-ish as it's a quesadilla, I didn't want to nap after. It was somehow still light which I loved. The tacos are all great, small so order a few! Empanadas are fire- I'm not even an empanadas person but they are extremely addicting. And the ahi club I had recently, split it with a friend and was perfect because it's a giant piece of ahi. It's not like the kind where the bread takes over. There is actually girth there, it's super fresh and so good. Drinks- I am also picky with margaritas. I feel like a lot of times they swim in sugar, have unnecessary ingredients and I get heartburn just looking at them LOL Not here. They are definitely my favorite in San Diego and I'm not just saying that. They have a few different kinds, I've had them all and they are all divine. My favorite is probably the carrot passionfruit. I try not to gulp it down and actually enjoy it-it's that good. It's also healthy so I tell myself I'm not drinking alcohol ha. The aguachile is amazing if you like a little spice and it's cucumber-esque so it's very refreshing. The coconut is unreal if you like coconut and it's not too sweet like you may picture. The classic marg is also one I get often. I actually love them all equally as they all offer something different depending on my mood! They have live music Wed and Fri 4:30-7:00 PM ( pretty sure! lol) Treat yourself and go experience pure bliss.

They honored our request when we arrived to be by a window to be able to enjoy the view although it was already getting dark by that point, so it wasn't bright enough to really enjoy it but I'm sure it is a gorgeous location if we had been able to get in a little earlier! We had the grilled prawns appetizer which was so delicious but which also then surprised me with how bad my meal was after having such a great app. My husband's burger was fine and he enjoyed it, but the pan roasted chicken I ordered was just very bland. I'm not very picky but there was no seasoning on it at all, just a plain pan sauce made from the juices of very plain chicken. It was originally plated nicely before I took the photo I included, but I had cut into it to make sure it was cooked thoroughly before I tried it since it was very thick and it was cooked fine, just not seasoned with anything that I could taste or see visually. I had to ask for salt and pepper to add to it and our waitress never came to ask how our food was once we got it, so I had to wait for someone else passing by to ask for that. It wasn't too bad to eat but just not very enjoyable so I didn't eat most of it, and when our waitress came back to finally give us our check and I declined a to-go box for it she still never asked how everything was, so we didn't complain or bring it up. For such a good location and how good the app was, I would still recommend them just maybe not that dish!
