Every item my colleagues and I ordered was cooked to perfection, and we genuinely enjoyed everything that hit the table. The kitchen clearly knows what it's doing, and it shows in the consistency and execution. We didn't make it to the dessert bar this time, but honestly, even watching it from nearby felt like its own experience. The presentation, the pace, the craftsmanship--everything coming out looked seriously tempting and made it obvious we'll need a round two just for that. The restaurant itself is excellent: dim lighting, a polished vibe, and--crucially--not overly loud. It felt upscale but still comfortable, like you can actually have a conversation and enjoy the moment. Overall, a wonderful experience and absolutely on my shortlist for top steak spots. Fabulous service!! They were all prompt, courteous, and treated all of us like royalty. Food was delicious ... served us family style per our request - sliced up all our meats and even plated our sides for each person. Each person got a hot plate to ensure our food was warm as we eat and they provide a moist hot towel that smelled like lavender post meal. For food - where to begin!! It's all a La carte. I got the bone in filet and it was cooked perfectly. For apps the ones I remembered after all the drinks were the beef tartare and the bread! The food was just alright. The place was amazing though. My party of 4 got led through the restaurant and it felt ike a maze to get to our seats right next to the entrance lol. I did marble at the glass seeing the fresh seafood on beds of ice and the pastries and chefs working to bake. I was highly impressed with the interior and the tables in the middle of the floor surrounded by glass. I was disappointed at the table we got sat at in comparison to the ones in the front. It was a small square table that would comfortable seat 2 but felt super crowded with us 4. Not to mention there was so little table space despite the menus being HUGE. I didn't want to put the menu down on my plate because it was dirty so I just had to awkwardly hold it. Our server was very passionate about the food here but he convinced me to order medium well because he mentioned how pink medium is. But I should've just gotten medium because medium well was way too tough and honestly ruined my steak experience! I got the filet mignon bone in but didn't enjoy the texture of it. The cocktails were delicious including their martini's. The sides didn't impress me either, the brussel sprouts were really undercooked and not crispy at all. The chef Daniel's potato sides were just okay. But the mushrooms were delicious, flavorful and chewy. I'd definitely recommend getting the mushrooms. Overall didn't have the best experience here despite here but the interior was one of the best I've seen for a steakhouse (at least the front part that it). Steak 48 has to be one of my all time favorite restaurants. I would no doubt be a regular here if I lived nearby. I swoon over their classy, dark and moody aesthetic. For those who don't know Steak 48 is a creation by the Mastro family. Their sister restaurant Ocean 48 is near me (Newport Beach/Fashion Island) but they do not allow first come first serve seating at the bar and who can be bothered with formal reservations for a spur of the moment evening? While I can't speak for Steak 48's white table cloth dining, their bar area is the best around. Their drinks are stiff and their food (down to their house rolls) - always excellent. We've enjoyed steak and a salad each time we've come. On a bustling evening it can be standing room only. Felix attended to my husband and me our first time here and gave us a memorable experience. We came back a few months later and were lucky to have him serve us again. He's personable and very intuitive. A true gem in the service industry. We'll be back many times over! read more

Visited earlier this week for a work event and was blown away. I ordered the bone in filet and it was absolute perfection! I love love love the crispy shrimp on top as an addition. My fav apps are the shells n cheese, crispy shrimp, chicken fried lobster tails, mashed potatoes, and of course the creme brule corn!!! Their brussel sprouts are too soft for my liking. but omg i filled up on all the apps and could barely make room for the steak! then for dessert we had a beautiful beignet tree, chocolate cake, peanut butter cake, and chocolate chip cookies! everything from service to plating, to the beautiful smelling hand towels, to food and drinks was spectacular! this has to be my all time favorite restaurant in San Diego right now! read more

There were lobster, caviar, shrimp and oysters on display over ice when we were brought to our table. We had seating right next to the kitchen, so that was pretty cool! Complimentary bread rolls were given to us in a cast iron with butter and it was nice and fluffy! My mocktail was also very refreshing. For sides, we shared the creamy mac n cheese and the whipped praline sweet potato, based on our servers recommendations. The sides were great and so filling! I chose the bone-in filet for my steak and it was cooked perfectly. Since we shared this, they cut it in half for us. It wasn't enough, my guy friend gave me the he rest of his, since he was full. We had a wonderful experience at Steak 48 celebrating our anniversary, and we still wanted to thank the staff, especially our server April, for making it such a memorable evening. We came in with our 1.5-year-old, and honestly, we were a little nervous about dining somewhere this nice with a toddler. We arrived shortly after opening, hoping to make things easier for everyone. Our son is very friendly and immediately started saying hello to all of the hostesses, who greeted him so kindly. We were seated at the perfect table overlooking the kitchen, which gave him some extra entertainment throughout dinner. April was incredibly attentive from start to finish. Everything was timed perfectly, and we truly appreciated how smoothly the evening flowed. The food arrived quickly, courses were spaced out nicely, and the service never felt rushed. The bread rolls were delicious, and we ordered the meatballs for our little guy -- he absolutely demolished two of them. It was honestly impressive to watch, and we enjoyed them just as much. Our main courses arrived sizzling hot and beautifully presented by the servers. Right around the one-hour mark, our little guy was ready to get moving. Even then, April remained incredibly gracious and continued providing amazing service. She recommended we take a key lime pie to go, and while we waited, they brought out small cookies that were a huge hit. We loved our experience at Steak 48. We went with another couple who has gone a few weeks prior. They told us our recommendations and we went with the flow in terms of what we felt like for the evening. We wanted to bring our wine, but when we called: There is a corkage fee of $85 and the wine cannot be listed on their (extensive) wine list. You are better off purchasing a bottle from the restaurant. We were immediately seated in a private dining table (sits 4) next to the chef's kitchen. Our table also had a great view of the dessert's kitchen as well. We were close to the all-gender bathrooms (2 separate bathrooms), which were a plus! It was fun sitting at these tables because they are semi-private and you get to see what's going on in the kitchen! There are only 6 booths (I believe), so try to request for a unique experience. I ordered a glass of Chandon to start. The table ordered their drinks of choice. We were provided warm bread that had a sweet taste (honey) and butter to start. We ordered appetizers to share: chicken fried lobster tails, braised pork belly, crab legs, and fresh oysters. For dinner, we ordered the bone-in ribeye and new york strip, with sides crispy hasselback potatoes, corn creme brulee, and a bottle of Cab for the table. For dessert, we ordered the triple layer key lime pie, triple chocolate bombe, and beignets (off menu item). Everything we ordered was delicious. The service, the ambiance, the food, the drinks were all amazing. This is a very high class restaurant that costs a pretty penny! For our party of 4, it was close to $900. One of the best restaurant meals of my life. We dined here for our wedding anniversary dinner and it was great! Plenty of parking because it's located in a shopping plaza, which was nice. There's also valet for only $10 but the spots are literally in front of the restaurant so we parked a little further away and walked over. Alejandro was a wonderful server, very personable, and you can tell he enjoys his job. Would've been a better overall experience if the comp bread was different and if each time the staff removed our plates, they automatically replaced them with new ones. We had to often request them. Water refills were prompt though. Oysters were shucked perfectly and came with 5 different sauces to enjoy them with. The yellowtail hamachi app was flavorful and fresh. The pomegranate blood orange cocktail - I ordered it with tequila instead of vodka and it was perfect. It was also like 2 drinks in 1 since it came with the remainder of the drink in its' shaker bottle. The chicken fried lobster tails were interesting. It was unique and lobster was prepared well but the batter was a bit much so I ended up removing some of it. The shrimp deviled eggs were good but could've used a bit more seasoning. The cesar salad with poached egg exceeded my expectations and the homemade oversized croutons were the best I've ever had. My husband ordered, I forgot which steak but it was nearly $200. He works in the meat distribution industry so he knows meat. He stated it was definitely good quality and he didn't have any complaints on the seasoning but I felt it could've used a tad more salt. We were able to choose a dessert, which was graciously comped, and they wrote a nice message on the plate. We chose the homemade cookies and cream gelato cake and it was definitely up there with one of my favorite restaurant desserts of all time. Steak 48 has always been one of my favorite restaurants, so this visit was especially disappointing. For a nearly $750 dinner (with no alcohol), I expected a much better experience. The seafood was excellent -- the hamachi and oysters were amazing -- and the service overall was great. Unfortunately, the main items were a major letdown. The $300 steak was ordered medium and charred, but it was still undercooked in the middle and not enjoyable. The crab legs were also disappointing. I asked for the meat to be removed from the shell, but it came back broken into small pieces with shell/cartilage throughout, making the presentation and eating experience very poor. To their credit, they removed the crab from the bill, but the steak was also not up to the standard I expect from Steak 48. For the price point and reputation, I left feeling disappointed and overcharged. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because this was not the experience I expected from a restaurant I usually enjoy. read more

The waiter talked through the menu and even highlighted top picks. I ordered the Wagyu Ribeye and my fiancé ordered the Filet Mignon. We usually like our steaks medium but were advised to order them medium well since we did not want any red. We also had the cesar salad as an appetizer and our sides were the mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, truffle fries, potatoes au gratin and mac and cheese. I think this place has the best Wagyu beef tartar so far. The last place I tried it at was at born and raised and it was not as satisfying to eat. Everything was great: Wagyu beef tartar, Crispy hasselback potato , Bone in filet mignon, 45 day dry aged bone in rib eye, Roasted brussel sprouts. They do warn you that the plate is 500f coming out. I grazed my arm on the plate and burned myself so definitely be careful. Drinks: Cucumber guava and BlackBerry bourbon both very good as well Our waitress offered me a black napkin and I didn't understand why until I used the white napkin. I felt bad I got lipstick on the white napkin. So now you know. They scrape the table cloth after they serve you bread and left no crumbs . Fancy banshee steakhouse in Del Mar area. Had some really amazing appetizers to begin with. The chicken fried lobster tails are out of this world good with a crunchy but light batter. The Wagyu steak tartar was so clean tasting, but could've used a little bit of salt and I wouldn't of mind if mine had a little bit more acid or I was just a little bit wetter. But it was tasty overall. The colossal shrimp cocktails were, aptly named and super fresh. I would've liked a little bit more horseradish they only give you a tiny bit for the cocktail sauce. The meatballs are insane. Meatballs are ginormous and they are moist and garlic. Did not even need the little bit of marinara that came with them. The hot skillet of yeasty rolls was pretty pretty good but I prefer sourdough bread. No hate though it was fine and it kept me from eating like 10. Of all the steaks that we got, I thought the winner of the night was the CapCut. I don't have a picture because the guy that ordered it sat across the table, but holy wow that was the most flavorful and delicious piece of meat. Hands-down winner of all of the steaks that we ordered. The sides we got the crème brûlée corn and the cream spinach. I asked when I ordered and I asked when I got my cream spinach for sides of lemon. 10 minutes later I asked again. And I got them another 10 minutes after that so I didn't really get to enjoy my spinach because it needed lemon and salt and by the time I got, my lemons, it wasn't hot anymore. But I do love the fact that I was only eating sides for my main because we had filled up on appetizers and the plate they brought me was so hot that was pretty cool. The crème brûlée corn was a 10/10 of fantastic recommended order. Would order another one of those in a heartbeat also For desserts, we got one of everything. I didn't get pictures of everything because of where it landed on the table, but the donuts were super cute and they had a nice chocolate and vanilla sauce. I think they were calling them beignets, but they were not airy enough to be beignets, but they had a really great mouth feel. The Keylime pie was massive and fluffy. I thought it was very good. We had to bring some home and it was even better the next day. Popcorn sundae was tasty but could've used more ice cream. It had a lot of accoutrement in it. We also ordered a red velvet cupcake type thing, but I didn't try cause I don't like red velvet but it was completely devoured. And we also got some thing that was like a chocolate bomb and it tasted basically like a massive Fierro Roche. I had made reservations to celebrate an early Valentine's Day dinner with friends. I had seen this cute booth in photos and called and asked to see if it was available, and it was! I was super happy and excited and let my friends know. They were excited too! It was a Saturday night, when we arrived it was busy, we waited some time and then we finally were taken to our table, when we got to the table it was this tiny little round 4 seater, and we just looked at each other like what the heck is this?!? I had requested the booth and it was confirmed , so I was fairly upset when they told me it was no longer available. How is that?!? So I waited for a manager... and our group waited some more! So not fun just standing around in heels! After who knows how long, we finally got seated at our booth! For drinks: the hubs got the French and I got my usual lemon drop. He seemed to like his drink. Mine was underwhelming, not horrible, it was just muted, not super tart. I like that the shaker was left and it was more than just a single martini. For appetizers: - House rolls: This was brushed with butter but I wish this was swimming in it and topped with rock salt. - Meatballs: these were tasty although my gf didn't like them - Pacific yellowtail hamachi: I didn't care for this at all. The tomato taste completely threw this off. Pass on this. - Crispy Shrimp Deviled eggs: these were good. I get they think their crispy shrimp is amazing, it wasn't bad... but I would've preferred it without. I think a dollop of caviar would've worked better. - Chicken Fried Lobster tails: of the appetizers, this was my favorite. The lobster was perfect with the chicken fried batter. It was probably the best cook on lobster I've ever had! The main entree: We got the Bone-in Ribeye. My friend got the 45 day dry aged ribeye. Both were tasty, but I love that mine was covered in a blue cheese crust with a side of truffle butter! Desserts: - Beignet Tree: My gf really wanted to try these. The tree came with 5 beignets on a decorative silver spooky tree. These were not my favorite. It was dense and chewy. I didn't care for the dips either which were chocolate and vanilla. - Triple layer Key Lime pie: This was absolutely delish! Tons of key lime flavor and topped with finger limes which I've never had. - Complimentary mini Chocolate Chip cookies: these were tasty. The perfect little sweet treat to end the night. Our server was JP and his assistant was Jacob. They did a good job but my impression was soured from the start. We were celebrating a valentines dinner, I wish our dinner didn't start out horribly by not having a booth ready for us which left us waiting and them trying to pass off a teeny tiny table for our group. Phenomenal from start to finish! We didn't know what to expect, as we had never heard of this steakhouse before, but it was the closest to where we're staying for the weekend, and just pure luck! Learning that it's owned and operated by the Mastro family, it is no wonder this chain has become what is has in such a short amount of time. Since they sold their famous family named chain, they have opened a few different restaurants, but this one they have expanded to six location around the US, with two in California. The cuisine, the ambiance, the service, even the day before phone call confirmation, and day after call, you can really feel the difference when it's a family owned, run, and loved establishment. It's also the little things, and attention to detail that make a big difference. Like the manager hand writing a thank you and congratulations card for our anniversary dinner, and writing Happy 5th Anniversary in chocolate along the edge of our choice dessert plate, which was complimentary. But even if you don't save room for dessert, each guest is served a little, freshly baked mini chocolate chip cookie to conclude the meal. Absolutely loved that! This is definitely the spot for every celebration, or date night, or any evening for perfectly aged steaks, or the largest selection of wagyu that I've ever seen in one menu, or for a succulent sea bass. Every menu item is truly exquisite, from the chicken fried lobster tail, to the A5 Kobe wine fed wagyu, the bone-in pork chops, the corn creme brûlée, and the dessert simply titled "ultimate." Came here on a weekday afternoon and was surprised by how busy it was. Would definitely recommend getting a reservation in advance. This place is located in the Del Mar Highlands shopping plaza so there is a lot of parking around. The ambiance is very dark, and a little on the louder side which might not appeal to some folks. ---Food--- Bread: I didn't think this was anything too special. Crab Legs: It comes with 3 large crab legs at $200. It was definitely a higher price than we expected them to be but they were good. Petite Filet: Well cooked and well seasoned. Heirloom Tomato Salad: A simple salad of an heirloom tomato with feta and seasonings. We should have looked more closely to realize that this didn't come with lettuce. Water: They don't offer tap water so you are charged $10 a bottle. We were surprised that when we had our waters nearly completely full, they immediately brought out and opened a new one for us so we ended up getting charged for two bottles despite not being able to finish the first one. --Service-- The service is amazing here. That cannot be denied. Our waiters and servers were attentive and warm. --Conclusion-- Overall, the food is decent and the service was great but I wouldn't come back or recommend coming unless you just wanted the experience. Made a reservation for 6 at 6 PM on a Friday night. The parking lot is busy as a heads up. You can opt for valet parking if you can't find a spot. We checked in and were immediately seated. The restaurant is huge and the ambiance is so nice. When walking to our table, we passed by the oysters and dessert - it all looked so delicious. For appetizers, I highly recommend their oysters. The chicken fried lobsters are really good too. It's pricey but super worth it. Dinner does came with complimentary bread, which I found delicious and buttery. For entree, we ordered a bunch of different steaks. The tomahawk is probably my favorite. We also did the ribeye cap steak and wagyu. This was enough for us to share along with sides. You can't go wrong with the creamed spinach and baked potato. For dessert, highly recommend the chocolate bomb. It's sooo good and you can share. The service is always excellent here. They're very attentive and friendly. We'll be coming back again when we are in the area! read more

Decided to go here for my birthday after coming here a couple months earlier with a group of friends. Spent thousands of dollars on just two visits. Food is good and serving staff were nice. While leaving, music still audible, a man decided to add lyrics that were very inappropriate and offensive. On top of that, was gawking at my wife up and down. Thinking it was someone that just had too much to drink, we ignored him. He eventually went back inside the restaurant. While waiting for our driver, he came back outside and seemed drunk and possibly on something else. We were confused why he would come back outside acting so weird. Oddly looking at us, I approached him. He put his hands on my shoulders, so I pushed him back to have some space. It turns out this guy is a wine rep that is working with the restaurant. The two male host tried to deny knowing who he was and proceeded to disregard our issue. The wine rep had his girlfriend there and she approached me and started yelling, seemed to also be drunk or something . My wife is normally very calm, but she yelled at this woman, asked her to stay away from her husband. The two male hosts said they called the police and they are on their way. He called the police for whom? The inebriated wine host and his girlfriend or two of your guests? I spoke with Matt and Liza and they apologized and offered to have us back for a dinner. We passed on the free dinner.They said a manager will call us. Almost a week later and we still have not heard from anyone. Unfortunate that a $600 birthday dinner for two was allowed to be ruined by a wasted wine host, his classless girlfriend and two negligent restaurant hosts.
