He favors Born and Raised so we wanted to give him some competition. Dylan our server for the night was up for the challenge. Absolutely stellar service from him from beginning to end. He was quite funny and just made for a memorable evening. He recommended an off the menu New York strip. I don't even know how but this was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Perfectly charred but the buttery, salty flavor was perfect! Had mine medium rare and my husband's was rare plus. My brother ordered the 45 dry aged ribeye and he agreed my cut was superior. The mushrooms were a nice accompaniment. The desserts sealed the deal. The butter cake with vanilla ice cream was the best! Followed by the key lime pie and peanut butter tort. Amazing steakhouse in Del Mar! Located in the Del Mar Highlands shopping center. There is plenty of parking but they have valet services too. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! Dimly lit, romantic, great for special occasions & large parties. The restaurant layout is kind of a maze & the walkways are narrow, but we got a nice tour where we saw displays of their desserts, seafood & wine selection. Our server was lovely! He was so friendly, gave fantastic recommendations & checked in on us frequently. All the workers we encountered were nice & professional. Stone Fruit Martini: One of the best martinis I have ever had! Sweet & refreshing, all the ingredients meshed perfectly. & they gave the shaker too so I was able to enjoy another glass! Bread: Complimentary. Buttery, flaky. Crispy Shrimp: Super flavorful, sweet & slightly spicy. It was crisped perfectly too. Filet Mignon: Sautéed Bleu Cheese. Incredibly tender & juicy. King Crab, Shrimp, Shells & Cheese: So, so creamy & they are generous with the crab & shrimp. First time dining here. Sis and bro in law took me out. My go to steak spot in SD is usually Born and Raised - for those steak aficionados, you know what I'm talking about. Ambiance - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Food - 5/5 Upscale and elegant ambiance. Has that modern vibe to it. We came on a Wednesday night; made a reservation but can probably walk in and dine at the bar for a party of 3. The complimentary bread is damn good. To me, it's like a buttery croissant! We ordered the recommended Gold Tier NY Strip, which was off the menu as well as the 45 day dry aged bone-in rib eye. Gold Tier NY STRIP was like butter. It did not disappoint. 45 day dry aged ribe eye was very good as well. However, the Gold Tier NY was better IMO. Drinks were as expected for this tier of fine dining. Desserts were great. Tried peanut butter pie, the ultimate, and key lime pie. All we're good! If you like dessert, highly recommend any one of these. Last but not least, service was excellent. Shout out to Dylan! Me and my family's go to spot. We came here 2024 thanksgiving and 3 other times I currently live in San Diego while my family is from the Bay Area. Every time they are in the bay and we call about the next time they'll visit San Diego they always say "steak48 when we come down!". Exceptional service and food ambience will make you feel like you are in a bond movie. My mother who is very hard to impress with steaks was impressed for the first time. Literally 0 room for improvement in my dining experience. I ordered the calamari for the table, filet, broccoli, mashed potatoes, and arguably the star of the show.... The ULTIMATE WARM VANILLA CARAMEL CAKE. If I can influence you to order anything it would be this vanilla caramel cake. You may be thinking to yourself, "Meh I'm more of a chocolate person...Not so into vanilla/caramel", and honestly me too. But this was the best dessert I've had in a long time. If you want the same experience I had, order the 45 day dry-aged bone-in ribeye, the crispy appetizer shrimp, au gratin potatoes, and the ice cream sandwich for dessert....just trust me gosh dang it! Somewhat oddly located in a strip mall, is a magnificent steakhouse with some of the best fried shrimp I've ever laid my lips on. They were so good, our table ordered another round. If you don't get the crispy Thai shrimp, you're already taking your first L. Started off this special birthday with a walnut old fashioned, $22; it was the perfect start to the evening. What you need to know: Steaks are where it's at Prices are ~$80-$100 for a steak, ~$22 a drink, ~$18 for a shareable side dish, ~18 for a shareable dessert. My dear friend recommended this place and boy, he did not disappoint. The food was really good, but I wasn't super impressed by all of the sides. The corn creme brulee was a bit of a let down, good but not ~$18 corn magical. The praline sweet potato was good, but I expected a bit more punch of flavor. The mash were tasty mash, the asparagus was perfect, and the au gratin was excellent!! I'd definitely get the au gratin, and possibly the sweet potato or asparagus. Just a heads up, if you're in a group, the server should ask if you're sharing sides. When your food arrives, the servers will dish out the sides to each diner. That style might not be for everyone, but we greatly appreciated it. The staff were so gracious, pacing our meal like true professionals. The birthday card, the next day follow-up phone call, the valet offering us waters while we waited for our rideshare.... incredible!!! Both of our birthday desserts were kindly complimentary. You MUST GET THE OREO COOKIE ICE CRWAM SANDWICH! Unfortunately, the warm vanilla cake dessert, wasn't really warm and was easily out least favorite of the night. I took my wife and the kids to Steak 48 for her birthday. First impression: beautiful restaurant, great vibe, and very impressive when you walk in. There are also a LOT of employees roaming around. At first you think, "Wow, service must be incredible." Unfortunately, at times it felt more like everyone was stepping on each other's toes while nobody was quite sure whose job it was to actually clear a plate. Food-wise, we started well. The Rhode Island calamari and shrimp was very good. I would have preferred a tomato-based sauce, but their cocktail sauce was excellent. The yellowtail was tasty. At around $36 it's a bit expensive, but compared with a good sushi bar, not completely out of line. The lobster cocktail was probably the highlight: a whole lobster, around a pound or more, perfectly cooked, with drawn butter and horseradish sauce. Excellent. The scallops were also very good, although the portion was on the smaller side. For dinner we ordered three Prime New York strips and one filet, along with au gratin potatoes, wild mushrooms, and the shells and cheese. The potatoes were excellent and the mushrooms were very good. Then we get to the service. The pacing was honestly ridiculous. This is a normal four-top table, but at one point we had the lobster cocktail, calamari and shrimp, yellowtail, scallops and all their plates still sitting there. The table was already overflowing. Then they brought the wedge salad. We were basically playing restaurant Tetris, moving dishes around ourselves, rearranging the lamp and trying not to knock something onto the floor. Why? This is supposed to be a premium steakhouse. The kitchen and service team should know how to stagger courses. If you're trying to turn the table, tell me. But when four people are spending somewhere around $800 to $1,000 for dinner, I don't think asking for enough time and physical space to eat the food is unreasonable. What made it more frustrating was seeing so many employees standing around while plates weren't being cleared. At one point we asked a waiter if he could take an empty plate. His response was basically, "Hold on, I'll get somebody." Then he walked away. I'm thinking: you're standing next to the plate. You have hands. We're halfway there. But my biggest disappointment was the steak. Three of us ordered the Prime New York strip. Mine was tough. My son's was tough. My wife's was tough. My daughter had the filet and was happy with hers. These weren't overcooked steaks. Mine was ordered medium rare and came out medium rare. A New York strip should have more chew than a filet, but it should not eat like a tough sirloin at this price point. Steak 48 promotes its Prime beef and does its butchering in-house, which actually makes this more puzzling. My suspicion is that some of these steaks may have come from farther toward the sirloin end of the strip loin instead of being premium center cuts. And this is where price matters. If I buy an entire USDA Prime strip loin at Costco, cut it myself, and one of the end steaks is tougher, fine. That's part of buying the whole loin. But I'm not charging myself $70 or $80 for the steak. At a restaurant operating at this level, with in-house butchers and a dinner bill of roughly $200 per person, part of what I'm paying for is selection. The butcher should be doing the sorting for me. Dessert was mixed. The chocolate mousse cake seemed a little dry and like it had seen better days. The key lime pie was okay. The peanut butter pie was very good. So Steak 48 is difficult for me to rate. The room is beautiful. Several appetizers were excellent. The lobster cocktail was terrific. The sides were strong. But the pacing and table management were surprisingly poor, and three tough Prime New York strips at one table are harder to dismiss as one unlucky steak. At approximately $200 per person, the standard changes. I'm not expecting perfection because the restaurant is expensive. I am expecting them to know when to bring the next course, clear the previous one, and recognize which end of the strip loin belongs on a premium steakhouse plate. At these prices, I shouldn't leave Steak 48 thinking Costco might have given me the better center cut. read more

Karen was great, she was patient but also have her recommendations and explained everything off the menu as well as her top choices. Loved the service from the bussers, who continually cleared the table and set the table. Stayed off with the lobster escargot. I hate snails and was hesitant to get this but it was pretty good. 10/10. You don't taste the escargot at all.. fully lobster. MAKE SURE YOU WAIT FORIT TO COOL DOWN - because when they say it's hot, it's really hot. The butter nearly burned our mouths off because we were too eager to eat. Got the ribeye and filet mignon, highly recommend both cuts. Got them cooked medium well which is still pink in the middle but super tender and melts in your mouth. I usually don't like filet mignon but it was perfect. Our sides was the sautéed asparagus and truffle fries. Asparagus was delicious. Even something as simple as asparagus with salt and Parmesan, it tasted amazing. Fries was ok, probably would get a different starch next time. Table bread was to die for. I could probably eat that every day. Super buttery, light, soft and flakey. Like pillsbury rolls but better. Ended the night with the vanilla cake. OMG! Sooooo gooooood!!! I don't know what they put in it but it was so yummy. Not too sweet and it taste like milk and cereal. They had some type of roasted pecans on top but it was so light, I thought it was cereal toppings. Valet was amazing. They give you a water bottle to go. The guy even ran to my car to open the door. 10/10 service. It's kind of smart what they do though which is making half the parking lot valet. You can try to get lucky and find parking or just pay the $11 for valet. Highly recommended and I will MOST DEFINITELY be coming back! Oh! OK, I went here expecting dark and moody rat pack vibes. It is sort of dark and moody, but there's a hustle bustle in there that gives it an energy. The staff does not miss a beat. They are meticulous to detail. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the petite filet mignon, french fries, and the peanut butter pie. Everything was exceptional. The homemade ranch, delicious and highly unexpected. I definitely recommend this place. It's not for the tight wallets definitely has a price tag, but it's worth the exquisite food and the experience and exceptional service. We celebrated my birthday at Steak 48 in Del Mar and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. We had the NY Strip, Filet, and Scallops for our main course, all cooked perfectly. Before that, we started with the Hamachi Crudo and Wedge Salad, both excellent choices. To top it off, they surprised us with an entire block of decadent chocolate mousse cake to take home. We had a private enclosed table right by the kitchen, which gave us a front-row view of the energy and precision of the staff. We paired everything with an outstanding California Pinot Noir that tied the whole evening together. The ambiance was second to none, modern, intimate, and vibrant without being too loud. Service was top-notch, though admittedly a bit pushy to get our order in early, but after that, it was flawless. What really stood out was that they called the next day to make sure we had a great experience. Who does that anymore? Highly recommend for any special occasion. My company allowed my coworker and I to expense a meal, since we are a remote company. Steak 48 had great reviews and my friend said that it was a classy restaurant. I made reservations for a Wednesday night, just in case. When I arrived, I was worried that I might be a little under dressed in my t-shirt and jeans. The greeter said that I was go to go. My colleague and I were seated and reviewed the extensive menu. Everything appeared to look so good and the waiter gave us an incredible run down for what seemed like 10 minutes. He really knew his stuff. I ordered the salmon and Brussels sprouts. My colleague ordered the filet mignon and creamy spinach. The food was great, except I've had better Brussels sprouts and the dinner rolls were nice. The rolls were basically biscuits with butter and honey but tasted good. Overall, I would definitely come back again but only to celebrate a birthday or anniversary because it was a little too dark for me and they try to make it romantic. I didn't want anyone thinking I was on a date with my homeboy. My wife wouldn't like that, LOL. Be prepared to bust out your wallet because it's very pricey. We celebrated our anniversary at Steak 48 tonight, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and celebrated. Our table was beautifully decorated with rose petals, and we were touched to find a handwritten anniversary card from Kris, the General Manager. Our server, James, was fantastic. He took the time to explain the menu, made excellent recommendations, and helped make the evening feel special. Some of our favorites were the ribeye topped with poached king crab, the filet mignon, sweet corn, crispy shrimp deviled eggs, creamy mashed potatoes, and the delicious bread. Everything we ordered was outstanding. James also recommended a Carajillo after dinner, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. We would also like to recognize Juan, who took such great care of us throughout the evening. He kept our table spotless, made sure our drinks were always refreshed, and was incredibly polite, attentive, and accommodating. This is my first time at Steak 48. The entire dining experience was excellent. It started with the friendly greeting in the front by Alayah, Talia and Paris. All smiling hostesses that were jovial and polite. The restaurant itself is like a maze so I appreciate one of the ladies walking us to the private room. Amy, our waitress was truly professional when she serviced our group of 18 doctors. She was helpful, attentive, and polite. The food was amazing. We started with sweet breads that was both warm and buttery. Our appetizers consisted of rhode island calamari and shrimp with cherry peppers. Our salad was Caesar romaine with warm croutons. I chose the 12oz New York strip. I prefer my beef medium rare, but the plate was piping hot. So my piece ended up more cooked than I liked. Next time, I will remember to order it rare. My dessert was a vanilla caramel cake with gelato and toasted brown sugar cinnamon pecans. It was mouth-watering. Buttery, savory bread. Careful not to fill up on these. You can take them home. I ordered the crispy shrimp expecting a couple and I got a bowl full. Delicious, and a bit spicy. I could have this for a meal but again I restrained myself because I wanted to try the steak. I ordered the 8oz petit fillet mignon cooked medium. It was tender and very flavorful. We ordered the creamy spinach and the potatoes au gratin. Loved the potatoes but not the spinach so much. I think they used a certain cheese that gave a rubbery taste. Not my favorite. We also had the warm vanilla caramel cake. That was wonderful. Shareable. I've heard from other reviews that it's pricey. The trick is to not look at the check and have your husband take care of it. Ignorance is bliss. Word of advice for the ladies: please don't pour the entire bottle of perfume on yourself before coming. It can ruin someone else's dinner. We were just going to sit at the bar because we didn't have a reservation, but it was full, so I tried to get us a seat, while I was doing that my wife had talked to Jacob(Manager) and was able to get us a table. We were greeted by Caitlin with her beautiful smile and I had asked her about the crispy shrimp appetizer she said it was a special there and was very good, so we started with that and proceeded to order a Pinot; 12 oz filet mignon; and a loaded bake potato. My hubby and I (and even my 5 year old daughter lol) love fine dining, especially when we're on vacation. We decided to do a mini get away since my daughter was on spring break and took her to Legoland. I already had my heart set on eating at a nice restaurant after our day was over and after getting all cleaned up, I decided ton Steak 48. We booked a reservation and were immediately seated right away. Our server, Christina, acknowledged us immediately and walked us through the menu. She was very professional, friendly, and had great energy, plus always a smile on her face. The best part about her was that she was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. To start off with, we were brought out their delicious bread that looked like cinnamon rolls and had some type of glaze on top of them. My hubby and 5 year old daughter gobbled those things like there was no tomorrow lol. As an appetizer, my hubby and I split the roasted beets salad. The beets tasted very fresh (and note that my hubby doesn't like beets unless they taste of food quality) and the dressing that's on there was so good. For our main meal, my hubby ordered the bone-in rib eye and I ordered the 45 day aged bone-in rib eye. Since the portion of the steaks were huge, I decided it would be best to share with my daughter. As our sides, she wanted the boursin mac and cheese (because what kid doesn't love mac and cheese lol), chef Nicolas's potato au gratin, and corn creme brulee. Normally, at a steak house, my go to is usually creamed spinach but after talking with Christina, she said that they're known for their potato au gratin and corn creme brulee, so I'm glad we made the right choice. When we received our steaks which were medium rare, they were cooked to perfection. Nice and pink on the inside, but cooked well on the outside. Since the plates were hot when receiving our plate, Our sides also came out nice and hot. I can't even decided which side dish I liked best because they were ALL so delicious. My mouth is watering as I'm thinking about their food right now lol. During half way through our meal, the manager named Blaze, came by our table and checked in on us. We communicated to him how lovely the restaurant was, professionalism of the staff, the taste of the food came out, and how LA restaurants need to learn to set the bar and could learn a thing or two from Steak 48. We ended off the night by ordering desserts. My daughter ordered chocolate gelato, hubby ordered butter cake, and I ordered some chocolate mousse dessert that came in a ferrero roucher chocolate covered ball, which by the way, presentation was excellent! Overall, we had a fantastic experience and will be returning here again to eat the next time we visit San Diego. This was on our bucket list for quite awhile. We tried to come here for Valentine's Day, but they were booked solid a month out, so we settled for the day before Valentine's (which is fine). We were greeted by our waiter and were promptly served with fresh baked rolled to start. We went ahead and ordered a couple of apps- crispy shrimp deviled eggs and the chef's cut hanging bacon. The crispy shrimp on top of the deviled eggs was bomb! There were 3 flavors for the bacon, our favorite was the truffle honey. To be honest, we ordered it purely based on presentation, however we were also rewarded with great flavor as well! For our entrees, we both went with the steak entrees (his was New York with blue cheese and mine was steak farina).we paired it with blistered shishito peppers. My steak was cooked to perfection and the favor was on point! My boo's entree wasn't nearly as good. He asked for medium rare, but it came out a bad overcooked. He has a bit disappointed. We went here to celebrate our 22nd Anniversary. The restaurant was very elegant and I'm glad they have a dress code. We had the best service and our waiter was so helpful in making our food choices. The food was amazing especially their steaks and side dishes. We got a complimentary dessert to celebrate our Anniversary and a lovely card from management with a nice note to us. Have dined here many times. Just never left a review. The super food salad was really good. Chilean sea bass was cooked to perfection. Crispy Hasselback potatoes were perfect. My friends took me to dinner here for my birthday the other night. I haven't been since it was Burlap but have been wanting to try it since it opened. We were greeted & sat promptly. A server brought us bread right away and that was definitely one of my favorite parts of the meal...SO good. They also gave me a little birthday note which was very much appreciated. Those little touches are so key in a higher end restaurant that will make diners feel special. The restaurant was very spacious and trendy. Loved the low lighting and modern light fixtures. We rarely ever felt we had to wait for service here as someone would always come by with refills for beverages. Our server (forgot her name but had blonde hair) made great suggestions and we loved how they spooned each side item onto our plates for us. I ordered the petite filet mignon..perfectly cooked medium-rare. The server did not that I should request medium as it will come out a bit more rare to an requested which I appreciated as I've requested medium-rare at restaurants and it would end up being more cooked/well than I'd like. Very buttery and tender...so perfect! A must! A friend of mine ordered the NY strip. While tasty, it didn't stand out to me the way the filet had. We also ordered a side of Mac & cheese, mushrooms and shishito peppers. The Mac was perfect and not too heavy, the mushrooms were tender without being mushy and loved the garlic flavor. I honestly didn't think much of the peppers...probably wouldn't order again as I felt they were a bit too greasy for my preference and could have had more flavor. The server offered me a birthday dessert of my choice and I chose the chocolate bomb. They even wrote, "happy birthday Tara" on the plate which was a nice little touch and added a candle. It was nice and light which was surprising considering the size. Loved it and would order again in the future but I definitely was eyeing the key lime and a few other dessert options as well. An Incredibly remarkable evening was had at Steak 48 Del Mar! Last night, I took my mom for her birthday dinner, and from the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by the awesome hosts, service staff, and a wall of wine and knives! (Mom was already stoked) A host walked us through the different rooms and seating spaces, also giving us a view into the cold stations, seafood, and prep areas of the kitchens! We were sat in the Del Mar room, with a great view of the bar, and other patrons. Marshall was our server and damn did he deliver! His knowledge and guidance of the menus was so spot on, he convinced my mom to order the key lime pie in under 10 seconds! That being said, Marshall's personality and service truly won us over. The rest of the service staff were also fantastic, friendly and on their game. Mom ordered her Bone in Rib eye, it came out PERFECTLY medium, rich red center, divine! Marshall suaded me into the Branzino special, covered in warm spices and butter, lemon OMG. The lightly seared scallops dolloped with caviar were the perfect touch. And to the bartender, she said it was the best cosmo she had ever had in her 67 years! Hell yeah! Thank you Steak 48 team, our experience was phenomenal. read more

We just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary for dinner and it also was our first time dining at S48. Our experience could not have been better! We had the most amazing experience and were treated so well starting with our booth we were given. It was located deep within the restaurant where their 2nd bar is. We were greeted with a had written congratulatory card signed by Kris, the GM of S48. Our server Conner took outstanding care of us the entire night, as did the others who assisted with our dinner service (Darren & Derek). We loved their house bread which was hot off the oven and soo good! We followed that with their delicious Hamachi Yellowtail appetizer, before sharing their 18oz bone-in filet mignon with truffle butter, sautéed mushrooms, and shells (macaroni) & cheese. Everything was cooked to our liking and it was all mouth watering good! My wife had their walnut cocktail followed by a dark rye Basil Hayden, while I opted for a non-alcoholic Athletic "upside down" beer. To cap off the dinner, Conner suggested his favorite dessert, their key lime pie, which we savored so much, we ate just a portion so we could have more upon arriving home. One of the dining room managers, Peter, dropped by to ensure everything was to our liking. We can't believe it took so long for us to try S48 and wished we had dined here much earlier. Absolutely Amazing I chose to enjoy my birthday dinner here and I am so happy I did. Valet was able to take our car as soon as we arrived. We were greeted with smiling faces as we entered the restaurant. Our server Trevor was so attentive, helpful and patient. I appreciated how thorough he was as he guided us through the menu. The timing of the food was great, giving us enough time to eat our bread, starters and entrees before dessert. I loved that Trevor gave me a card from the general manager thanking us for spending my birthday there. This felt very sweet and considerate. Trevor gave the best suggestions for drinks and every course of our meal. He made me feel special as "guest of honor" and continuously informed us how happy he was that we chose to spend our evening there. I loved how often he checked in and asked if we were happy. The food was sooo delicious. Every single item tasted fresh, perfectly seasoned and prepared with love. I wasn't even going to order steak until Trevor spoke so highly of the mid cut. I am so happy I trusted his suggestion because it was phenomenal! It was 3 of us and our total was about $450 so I'd definitely plan to spend about $100+ per person. The quality of food and service is totally worth it in my opinion. Side note The bathrooms were a favorite part of the night. It was our first time here because we have heard great things! The parking lot is big and you'll be able to find parking anywhere. We walked in and had rsvp. We still had to wait a couple minutes to be seated. What I really didn't like was there was not an area to wait, while we wait to be seated(does that make sense lol). So people kept walking by us and we were like right in front of the doorway. Just felt like you were standing in everyone's way. We were seated and I noticed the lights are really dim. Also we can talk about how big the menus are! It like takes up the whole table. And that's pretty big especially if you're with a group of people. I do want to say the food was amazing and the service was great! Our food came fast and I love that they help serve the sides you order on your plate.
