Staxx is a great, local, small town bbq place. It has all the different options you expect with bbq and it's always hot and fresh. I usually do the pulled pork but I've tried their other offerings and haven't found anything to dislike yet. My only knock on them is I wish they had better buns. The ribs were disappointing. The dry rub did not have a good flavor, they were not tender and juicy like one would expect of a specialty bbq restaurant. Yesterday was the first time I've eaten here. The staff was very friendly and polite and the service was fast. The food was better than I initially expected, and the portions were very large. You definitely get more than your moneys worth here. I definitely liked how the interior was set up as it made me feel like I was at an old nostalgic Pizza Hut. I was told that it is probably the best barbecue you will find in Kentucky and all I can say about that is poor Kentucky! I found the meat to be unflavorful and I knew that by the amount of sauces that they put in the bag. I got the pork slider and they gave me more sauces than they gave me slider. While on a bourbon trail tour with Central Kentucky Tours, our driver, Daryl, stopped at Staxx for us to eat lunch in between distilleries. Tina waited on our party of 6 and delivered SO MUCH FOOD on a tray that we stared in amazement. We got brisket combos, sweet potato fries with cinnamon butter, pulled pork sandwich combos, meat platters with brisket and sausage, baked beans, corn bread, mac n cheese, cole slaw, Texas Toast, ribs and wings and sodas. SO MUCH FOOD! It all was delicious. Daryl warned that the servings were gigantic, and he suggested getting the slider size, but we went all out and ordered the "American" size. Staxx is definitely worth a stop. We came in after some golf and waterpark fun and we're ready to eat. The brisket is FANTASTIC. Tender, juicy, flavorful but not "punch you in the facex with smoke. I like nice clean smoked flavors, and this had it. The ribs were a little dry for my preference, but a little sauce and they were good to go. The pulled chicken, also Fantastic. I love that the sauces are all out on the table. I like trying different sauces with each meat. So I don't like when places make you pick a sauce up front Staff and service were also great. Had Staxx for the first time and it was pretty good. The catfish filets are huge! Everywhere else I go I would eat 3-4 pieces and sides but here I ate 1.5 pieces and had plenty. The wings also were large, really smoky with good dipping sauces. All of it is also reasonably priced for what you get. read more

Was not impressed. I hate doing reviews like this but I do feel the need to share. My son and I planned the day around our Buffalo Trace tour and the fella who was out guide recommended Staxx BBQ as when it's not COVID-19 restricted, they are actually onsite running a cute little store. I wish we ad ignored him as my lunch was kind of awful. My son ate it all but he mentioned that he hadn't eaten in 24hrs for various reasons so I'm thinking he would have eaten a wooden stave at this point. The brisket was super dry and flavorless. The bbq sauces were pretty good. The Mac and cheese was cold and harsh to chew on. I looked for a date on it because i cannot imagine how long it would take to become chewy? I really teeter on giving this a 4 or 5 star. If i had to base it on the chicken wings, it would be a 5 star, but on the whole thing, it get's a 4. First, let me start out with saying that I almost always get the pulled pork sandwich combo until the cashier said the wings were good. They sounded good and the pulled pork can be a little dry some days. So I got the wings. OMG! These are seriously the best wings I have ever had. They come with a dry rub and no sauce on them. (The sauce is on the table). These are so good, I don't use the sauce. After ordering a 6 wing combo and finishing that off, I went back up and ordered another 6 wings. If you get the pork, you'll need the sauce. I like the carolina sauce the best. But if you get the wings, you won't need anything. GET THE WINGS! read more

My husband and I were on an adventurous ride from Cincinnati to Nashville, and happened upon Staxx BBQ, and decided to try them. I was hoping for something awesome, instead just got kind of blah. We ordered the ribs, brisket, green beans, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and cole slaw. My husband said the ribs were actually pretty good! They were moist and tender. But, the hot, spicy, and sweet sauces they offered were less than exciting. The hot and spicy sauces tasted too much like Frank's Red Hot sauce. The brisket was super dry, and tough. We honestly couldn't eat it. Now to the sides. The green beans were quite bland. We had to add salt and pepper to give them flavor. Once that was added, they were really good! But, there was WAY more bacon and onions than green beans. The macaroni and cheese was not good. It was quite dry, and tasted like, well, dry noodles. I was expecting something rich and creamy. It was not. The potato salad was pretty decent. I've never needed to add salt to potato salad but, it needed it to give it a bit of umph. The cole slaw was good. I would have liked it to have more dressing, to make it a tad more flavorful but, it wasn't awful. The cornbread was so dry, we didn't eat it. There was absolutely no moisture to it. Came in hoping to love this place, first time trying it. Service was great, friendly folks, fast. Price is ok, especially for the serving size. Mac and cheese was good. Had a tiny kick to it with the pepper. Brisket, this is where I'm struggling. Doesn't seem overly flavorful, has a light smoke flavor. Bit dry though. Not bad, but would've preferred a juicier cut. Frankfort is mostly inundated with national chain restaurants, but I wanted to try something local. This was my first visit to Kentucky, and I love to experience different types of bbq wherever I go. The parking lot was almost full when I got there before noon, as this seems to be a local favorite. The interaction between the staff and customers made it clear there are some regulars that stop by often. I opted for the wing and rib combo - with green beans for my side. Everything came 'naked' as there are a number of sauces available at the table, as well as one at the drink station. The green beans were fairly bland and benefitted with some salt and pepper. The wings were well done, and had a nice smoke flavor. The ribs were almost fall of the bone, but still had a bit of a pull to them - which I prefer. There's a lot of competition for good barbecue in Kentucky, and this place ends up being a slight disappointment. I got the three meat platter with cole slaw and mac and cheese. The cole slaw, sausage, and pulled pork were all very good, especially with a mix of their sweet and their spicy barbecue sauces, but the brisket was kind of dry, and the mac and cheese had hardly any flavor.
