Roadside BBQ

If you are at the horse park you must add this to your list to grab lunch or dinner. If you do, be sure to get there early as like most BBQ joints they will sell out. We got a smoked sausage plate (by mistake-supposed to be burnt ends) but it turned out ok as the sausage was good. Also got the pulled chicken as they were out of the smoked. They were also out of brisket. I enjoyed the meats and of course the delicious sides. If you like fried green tomatoes you must order them. Very good. Loved the vibe of the roadside BBQ. Plenty of seating inside and out. Parking lot can get crazy so be careful. The service was good. Staff very pleasant and polite wanting to make sure your needs are met. If you get a carry out order, double check it before you start driving. They messed ours up in the craziness of a Sunday dinner rush. Will definitely be back the next time we are at the horse park.

Gator sausage? We were told it's not on the menu. ‍

Overall, it was OK. They forgot to add the cornbread muffins to our to go order, and when we asked for gator sausage we were told it's not on the menu. Pork ribs were a bit dry to the point of the outer skin was more of a husk and peeled off instead of falling off, but the brisket and potato salad were pretty good.

Lots of choices..

Finally dined at Red States BBQ. We will be back! Such a friendly eatery. Booths, tables ( nicely spaced ) and takeout. Quite a big menu with pork, chicken, brisket sandwiches or plates and lots of sides chives. If dining in... there are at least 8 bbq sauces available on your table. Ordering at the counter. Delivery for your counter pickup shortly thereafter. Decor... sign the walls or ceiling... a bit much but ... Big parking lot. Bus your own table. No loud music. Good food and happy bbq fans.

Awesome barbecue. Came out very fast. Great sauces and sides. Enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich and double smoked brisket. Private parking lot. Gets popular at lunch time.

When researching the Lexington area, Red State BBQ was listed as THE best bbq spot to try! The inside has been written over top to bottom. This felt like locals spot off the beaten path to downtown. The menu board offers a wide variety of smoked meats, sides, and sauces. They mentioned they were known for their brisket which did not disappoint! The mac n cheese and baked beans were the highlights for sides. Food was ordered and out in about 5 minutes. I HIGHLY recommend making a stop to try this local bbq spot. You won't be disappointed!

We have been to Lexington three times and every time we have to hit Red State BBQ. This place gets busy but the service is pretty quick and the staff are friendly. During our visits, we have tried the brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, jalapeño sausage, smoked wings, beer cheese grits, fries, corn muffins, fried green tomatoes, and Mac 'n cheese. First of all, let me tell you the portions are huge! The pulled pork and pulled chicken have always been delicious. The brisket is hit or miss, sometimes it's nice and juicy and other times it's a little dry. The jalapeño sausage is consistently good. We have had the fried green tomatoes twice, the first time they were delicious but the second time they weren't as good. The beer cheese grits, fries, and corn muffins are always good. The meat plates come without sauce which allows you to add whatever kind of sauce you want. They offer about six different kinds of BBQ sauce for you to choose from. While the brisket is hit and miss, Red State BBQ has enough great food to keep us coming back.

Sauces, sauces, sauces! So much barbecue sauce variety.....we loved trying them all! Apple Bourbon, North Carolina spicy vinegar, Memphis sweet and Kentucky Small Batch (that has a taste of Maker's Mark) ....different and delicious! Friendly service and unique diner ambience. We always love our trips here!

Main entrance. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Lx Bbq - Brisket combo with smoked potato salad

The only thing they were out of was the smoked turkey which just gives me a reason to go back. We ordered almost all the meats, plus sides of mac and cheese, greens, and potato salad. The meal also came with blueberry cornbread and regular cornbread, and we finished it off with their homemade Biscoff dessert, which was so unique and so good. This was honestly some of the best BBQ I've had!! The meats were incredibly flavorful and tender and the sides were just as good. I genuinely think this place is underrated. The service was amazing! Everyone was super kind and welcoming even though we came close to closing time. We never felt rushed. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, both clean and perfect for groups. I'll 100% be back.

Although we parked on a side street initially, we saw that there was a separate parking lot right next to the place that had plenty of spaces open. The staff here was super welcoming, not rushing us to order as they cut the brisket right in front of us for other customers. We both got the Brisket Sandwich combo which came with a side (we got potato salad and mac n cheese) which the staff member asked about what type of cut we wanted (fatty, lean, mix of both). We both got a mix. There is not too many seats inside so all the tables were full that day, but there is seating outside. The staff member was willing to use the table where they keep the utensils and sauces for everyone so we could eat inside (it was a bit chilly that day) but I didn't mind sitting outside. Although it was cold outside, I honestly did not care after taking a bite of the sandwich. Juicy and melting in my mouth, I have to say this is some of the best brisket I've ever had! I highly recommend pairing it with their BBQ sauce which really pulled it all together. Their potato salad was okay, as I prefer a more pickley potato salad, but their mac n cheese was delicious. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Lexington and looking for a quick, delicious BBQ meal!

We had reservations but ended up getting there early and just had our dinner at the bar. We both had cocktails which we enjoyed along with the deviled eggs for an appetizer. The eggs were okay--a bit spicier than I would have preferred and I would probably try a different app next time I go (there will be a next time for sure!) My shrimp and grits were great but honestly the bourbon glazed wings that my fiance had were the show stoppers. Large sized wings that were smoked perfectly with the right amount of crunch topped with a sweet but not too sweet bourbon glaze. I will definitely get those next time I go. The vibes were casual and chill--the perfect place to pre-game before a game or event or the perfect place to meet friends for a drink. I'd definitely recommend!

The fried duck rangoon is a delicious option (unless you just don't like cream cheese), but the fattiness carries the sauce so well. Also, tacos are always a good option - Taco Tuesday specials are so worth it. Lots of service options (to go, at the bar, sit down service). You can even get a delivery to Beer Trappe! Everyone has been super nice every time we've gone and very helpful even with silly questions. It can get kinda loud, especially on event nights, but outdoor seating is great when the weather is nice!

Spam was a little salty (duh, that's to be expected) but well fried. The fried sunny side up egg was amazeballs too, so rich and runny. Fries were hot and crispy as well, but honestly the spam and eggs (which also came with sticky rice and macaroni salad) was so filling that I barely touched the fries. This delicious smorgasbord was only 9 dollars! My colleague had the juicer, which is mahi mahi with cabbage slaw and spicy mayo. He also got the Hawaiian style fries. Topped with spicy mayo, sweet soy, house chili sauce, green onion, and sesame seed, this is an extravagant dish! He enjoyed it. My other colleague got spam musubi is spam and sweet soy on sticky rice, wrapped in seaweed. He says it's his favorite dish from there. Other dishes include kalua pork (Hawaiian bbq sauce), teriyaki chicken, grilled tofu, coconut shrimp, and katsu, which is panko fried pork with their house sauces. For a meal out of the ordinary, give Big Kahuna a try. They say they have the "second best fish sandwich in town!" (Charlie's claims the first spot).
