Oh my goodness so confusing. I'm from NC visiting. First time and there are not enough signs to let you know this place is set up weird in so many ways. I decided to give them a try after looking at their extensive menu. It was short drive to pick up some food and bring it home. This was the first time I have gone to this restaurant. I have passed by it multiple times but never stopped before. I did go into the drive-thru the wrong way. If you go there, you need to drive around back where the drive-thru lane starts. You have to order the pick up your food from the passenger side. This is due to it being the last space in the strip mall there. Anyway, they were nice about it (I am sure I'm not the first to make this mistake). They took my order and told me I could park anywhere out front and they would bring my food to me. She told me they make it fresh so it would take a few minutes but assured me she would get it out to me as quickly as possible. It was probably about 10 minutes or so. I would order ahead next time and then pick up at the drive-thru. I ordered the 2 pc Boneless Catfish Dinner which comes with two sides and a choice of bread. I tried the Red Beans & Rice and the Potato Salad. For my bread I went with the Cornbread instead of the roll. The fish was good. The potato salad was excellent. The red beans & rice and cornbread were okay. I would come again to order more food for sure. She got the Chicken Sandwich. It was a classic chicken sandwich which would normally come with lettuce, tomato, mayo, they also asked if she wanted pickles. She opted to get it plain. She sometimes doesn't like the sauce or there is too much sauce so she prefers to add the toppings herself if needed. The chicken was lightly fried and came on a large white bun. There are so many places that sell the classic sandwich so she did have some preconceived idea of what it would taste like. She had to say this chicken sandwich, to her surprise, exceeded her expectations. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was everything she had hoped for. Anytime I visit Lexington, Kentucky, I have to take advantage of one of its many Mom and Pops chicken places. Grimes did not let me down and this new location in the Tates Creek Area is close to my hotel in Hamburgh, so yes, this is a win for me. This location is located at the end of a strip mall near a Walmart, which is convenient for them because it allows them to operate a drive-thru. Super fast; from the time I walked in, ordered my 18 piece wings, 3 potatoe wedges, and roll, I was out the door in 5 minutes or less, literally. What makes the process so fast, is the food is displayed behind a glass that you can see it. There is also a large menu board that displays everything. You can expect options from dinners, chicken and roll and individual options. The sides are all your southern favorites, mac and cheese, greens, green beans, potato wedges, fries etc.... The price is very resonable for what you get so feeding a family of four here is a good option.. I like my chicken cooked a little hard so some of the pieces was a little undercooked for my taste, but that makes the best chickent to reheat later. Yes! I can no longer do Grimes anymore, first it was the reduced size of the wings, they are so small now that in 2 bites it over. Today I ordered the catfish sandwich, one of my favorites and it was a total disappointment from the last time I ordered it over 6 months ago, it was 50% air crust and fish which was on the thin side. Grimes was a place I truly loved when I travelled to Lexington to now a big disappointment. I doubt if I will ever visit them again . I know inflation has a lot to do with it but you raised the prices and reduced quality of what we loved. read more

Ok Grimes, what is going on? We used to LOVE your chicken but the last two times we've gotten it (in the evening around 6:00pm three weeks apart), it's been over cooked. (Only screw the Colonel if it's consensual) Grimes's (fka Richie's) is one of the best chicken joints in Lexington. You can choose from regular or spicy chicken and great sides such as potato wedges, mac & Cheese, greens, or green beans to name a few. This trip I ordered the 2 piece box, which accidentally came with 3 pieces! I substituted spicy breasts and ordered the greens as my side. You also have a choice of bread or corn muffin. The spicy breasts were fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. These folks know how to fry chicken and you will not have grease dripping from your fingers! The greens were cooked to perfection as well, slow cooked with just the right amount of vinegar and the muffin is sweet corn bread and was moist and delicious. 100% This is the best fast Food chicken in Lexington. Everytime I Eat here, I Love it. Wide variety on the Menu, The chicken is the Best, Juicy, But not greasy and Flavorful. I'm personaly not a Fan of greens, But every time I go, I HAVE to get the greens. The workers are always Super Friendly, And it doesn't take long for them to cook the food. Best part at least for me? Rolls were soft and cornbread muffins slightly sweet on top and pleasantly not dry. Fried mushrooms good...would be nice to have a dipping sauce. Ordered peach cobbler but too full to try it yet. Well.... I have to rescind my last review. My heart is broken. Just stopped and got my dinner. I'm not sure I'll be going back anytime soon. The girl at the window and the one serving the food were too busy rolling their eyes in their heads when they overcharged me. I finally got them to understand but it was difficult. Hopefully it was done correctly! ‍ Then I get home with my food and it was so dry that I thought it might disintegrate any second. Staff were not properly wearing masks or gloves, most looked really young so my expectations were low for food. I was unfortunately correct. Cod was a very hard fried piece and inedible. We tried this place for the first time today and it is now our favorite fried chicken place! Not only is it affordable but it's delicious!! I got a three piece regular with Mac & Cheese. My husband ordered his three piece meal hot & spicy. The mashed potatoes were just ok but the potato wedges were amazing. Each meal came with a roll. My husband went inside to order and said the most pleasant woman was there to take his order. Crispy, not too greasy. Flavorful! Like #3, Save-A-Lot, they have no seating, so get it to go and eat it in nearby Veterans Park. Cole Slaw is good, creamy and tangy. Got a 30 piece for Mothers day. All the pieces were huge, hot, fresh and juicy. I got them in a large aluminum serving tray covered in foil so it was easy to take home and place in a warm oven to stay hot. Many places that serve chicken skimp on prime pieces, serving many wings. We ordered the ten piece just chicken and had it one half hot and one half regular chicken. We ordered the 5 piece potatoe wedges. The takeout was well wrapped and the drive through was quick and efficient and there were five cars ahead of us. We loved the food and are sorry we had not ordered from here previously. I got the 3pc dinner box spicy. Sides were Mac and cheese and green beans. I alway trade my wife the sides so we can order and share fried okra and fried mushrooms. I got the family dinner to-go last night. It included 10 pieces of chicken, 2 pint sized sides (I got potato wedges and green beans) and 5 rolls. The chicken is great, but it got a little mushy from the container so when I got home I crisped it up in the oven. No big deal, though. The potato wedges are huge and really tasty. They're a little peppery though and my kids don't like them. The green beans had zero seasoning and I wished I had chosen a different size. I also got a small side of mashed potatoes for my kids to share. This doesn't affect my review at all but I pictured a small being enough for 2 younger kids to share but it was barely enough for one of them. The small side is definitely small. Ordered from this location with Uber eats. The best part was definitely the chicken I got the spicy chicken version. It was so Juicy and the breading was crisp. Just a fire chicken breast all around! Only reason they don't get five stars is because my two side containers for the three breast to side in a roll meal was very small. They were delicious but small. While ordering I noticed the sign that said, "we now have chicken livers." I love chicken livers, so I thought I'd give theirs a try and see just what they were like. I have to say, I was a tad disappointed. They were very dry and overcooked, however the breading had a good taste. And what's with the brown gravy Grimes? No chicken gravy back there in the kitchen?
