I had never visited Lexington before and something I always look for when I visit a new place is BBQ. I definitely wanted to try some Kentucky BBQ before heading back over the river where good sweet tea is a rare calamity. I was very disappointed that when I arrived, there was no more sweet tea. But what really made it worse was when I was told they were not going to make anymore because they closed in an hour (I think he meant 2 hours) and he had to make 3 gallons. Looks like he would have done fine since the place was busy the whole time I was there and sweet tea is not expensive to make. I had to take off a star for that. Service after that though was pretty good as they gave me a hard time about being a Bama fan and I reminded them how the Cats lost in their 1st game of the SEC tournament. Also, they gave me as much sauce as I wanted. I requested bread with my meal and they put some sourdough on the grill and brought it to me. I just didn't understand the deal with the sweet tea though. Though it was a rough start, things got better, though this was an unique BBQ place. I went with the sampler with ribs, pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese, and beans. The ribs and pork were really good and the most normal thing about BBQ. The brisket was more like a prime rib in au jus. What I liked about it was that they just didn't give me a dried, thin slice of beef but kept it moist and wet. That was a brilliant idea other BBQ places need to adopt. There are 3 sauces - Alabama white, mild, and spicy. The Alabama white was close to a horseradish. The spicy was a vinegar with lots of spice added to it. I liked it the best. But for some reason, I absolutely hated the mild. It was a ketchup base but whatever was added to it, I did not like. I almost want to say it was celery or celery salt. The beans were very sweet as an ingredient was slices of peaches. I liked it! The mac and cheese I didn't really care for because it seemed like it was nacho cheese with herbs added. The photos of potato salad looked yummy and I must have been right because they were out when I arrived. Double H has some things that separate them from the average BBQ joint. Some things I liked and some I didn't. But Double H is worth a try. read more

We were having people over and decided to try Double H as we had heard good things about them. Definitely true! We had questions and they promptly returned phone calls. Were very helpful and honest with info. Pickup was easy and they were great to deal with. Now to the food: the pulled pork was wonderful. No gamey taste, unlike a lot of pork lately. Thoroughly cleaned of fat and gristle. Smoke level was just right. Subtle, not gag-inducing. Bark was fantastic! The house-made sauces are outstanding. Especially the hot sauce which just has a pleasant mild heat (unlike some places that try to burn your mouth out). I joked that I could use a straw to drink both sauces! They have a good amount of seating inside, including a side room. Only open weekdays at lunch and they do sell out early most days. Worth the trip!! We will be back! read more

Really enjoyed my first visit today. It was recommended to me that I get the stuffed pork chop. Only thing I would change is the name. I'd call "the triple pig", or "pig in a pig in a pig", or "pigs in a pig blanket. OK. "Stuffed Pork Chop" is fine. It's sausage, stuffed in a pork chop then wrapped in bacon. How much better than that can you get? It was smokey, perfectly cooked to be moist and tender. It was full of flavor. I got green beans and tots for the sides. Both were good and added to the meal. Service was friendly and fast. Price was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Looking forward to trying the wings. I think it's might be my new BBQ joint! read more

We came especially for their peach baked beans and they did not disappoint my 13 yo, who chose this place based on them! We ordered two pulled pork sandwiches and the smoked chicken quarter special. Always anxious to try new BBQ joints, over the weekend, I stopped in Double H BBQ located next to Purple Haze on Versailles Road. While the small strip center doesn't have much curb appeal, upon entering Double H, I felt transported out into the country by the rural decorations and furnishings. Lest that also sounds unappealing to you, half of the restaurant appears to have been newly added on and/or recently fully remodeled with a full bar and several flat screen tvs for your sports watching pleasure. Go Big Blue!! As to the food, rather than try standard BBQ offerings, I decided to go another direction. First, I tried the wings, which are smoked, then flash fried. Delicious to the last drummy, they had a slight sweet flavor which complimented their smokiness. I tried two BBQ sauces, one mild and one hot, but both delicious. The hot sauce, in particular, had a unique heat signature, perhaps a little habanero or maybe some pickled jalapeno juice had been added. I'll have to track down the source of that heat! As the Double H menu has a section with "Hearty Meat Sandwiches & More" with several tasty sounding sandwiches, I decided to give a couple of them a try. The Big Meaty features a ground pork sausage patty, topped with melted Swiss cheese, pulled pork, bacon, and lettuce and tomato. Absolutely delicious in every way! What's not to like about sausage, pulled pork, AND bacon? Finally, I tried the Corned Beef Reuben, which was traditional in its construction (corned beef, Swiss cheese, thousand island on rye), but ambrosial in its execution. And I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of fine Reubens. Looking forward to my next visit to Double H BBQ on a mission to learn more about the secret ingredient in that delicious hot BBQ sauce! read more

My family stopped by for dinner on Saturday night after seeing the good reviews on Yelp. What a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is divided into an older section and a brand new section that is very nice. The new section is a full on bar with big screens. It wasn't very busy when we were here but obviously this place must be doing pretty well. What we really liked was the food is really good. The meat is flavorful and the sides are made to please. And the other thing that makes this a great place to visit is value for your money. The food is priced very reasonable and I would recommend giving them a try. read more

One of the best BBQ places I have been and I travel the country for my job. Brisket is incredible/ribs fall off the bones. Actually the bones are minimal compared to the amount of meat on the ribs. Sauce is fantastic. Wings are smoked and have just a hint of crisp crunch. Wow is all I can say. Worth the trip for lunch. Saw this place had great ratings and decided to give it a go! It was only a couple of miles from my hotel and is located in a strip mall. It looks like a typical BBQ joint on the inside with red checkered plastic table cloths and rolls is paper towels on each table. The menu is simple, which I'm a big fan of. I find that if you keep it simple you can concentrate on putting out a better product. The place is clean and the service is friendly and attentive. I had the small pulled pork Daily Square Meal deal. It is a pulled pork sandwich served with two sides. I opted for the coleslaw and the jacked mac n cheese. The pulled pork was served plain which allows you to put your choice of sauce on it (hot or mild). The meat was tender and flavorful and the mild sauce was mild and just sweet enough. The jacked Mac n cheese is spicy and delicious, I could have seriously eaten another helping! And the coleslaw was cut in larger pieces but was fresh and had a nice sweet, but not overly sweet together. I like putting the coleslaw on my sandwich so it's a big yummy messy that I have to eat with a fork and this did not disappoint! This is an excellent spot for BBQ. I loved the spice rub on the pulled chicken, it was just the right amount of spicy. The hot BBQ sauce was super delicious and an all-around good flavor, not too vinegar-y but with a good kick from black pepper flakes. I also really enjoyed the creamy mac and cheese though my husband preferred the corn pudding. The white BBQ was somewhat bland to me so it wasn't my favorite. There were also non-BBQ options on the menu, which was interesting. I liked that this place had lots of seating and it was definitely less crowded than Blue Door, although I think the food is slightly better there. We had a group of Mizzou guys in Lexington to attend football game and picked up Double H for tailgate party. Enjoyed talking bbq and football and basketball with the owners. My meal was under $10 for meat 2 sides and a drink. I myself do not care for the more vinegary/hot taste of this style of BBQ, but if that is your cup of tea this is the place for you. read more

Our goto place at work for BBQ. Food is always good and daily specials. You have to go on Thursdays for the Stuff Porkchops. The smoked wings on Wednesday are good also. Had a great meal at double h! The brisket was good and had a nice flavor. However, the wings were excellent! Crispy with a nice kiss of smoke flavor. The hot bbq sauce went perfectly with the meat. Nice sweet heat with a vinegar tang. The jacked mac and cheese was unlike any I've had and was bursting with flavor. Also had a nice heat to it. Best sweet potato fries I've ever had. I love BBQ it's my favorite food group but I must say I was not overly impress with this stuff. I had the ribs, baked bean and slaw pretty standard stuff I thought the ribs were pretty dried out and had to use sauce on them or they were WAY to dry. I would have thought left in smaller to long but they really did not have a great smoke flavor or smoke ring. The baked bean were pretty good and the slaw was very solid. It's a little hard to find, but once you go inside the people there are so friendly you feel like your with friends. Chicken wings are good, a little different than I expected. But their jacked up Mac&cheese was pretty awful. It's like extra cheddar with lots of oregano and pepper, maybe more spices.
