The Frankfort area was on our fall break agenda this warm partly cloudy October day. We walked the trails at Cove Creek Park. Fall color was evident and the park was lightly attended. The trails were rustic and the sounds of water running downhill was all around. The wetland area has a paved trail offering elevated views of the Frankfort hills. It was a calming walk and a great break from the rigors of work from home. After the walk, time to eat lunch. We took the short drive out 127 near the US 60 interchange. Staxx is in what looks like a former Lee's Chicken restaurant. Some of the parking lot has picnic tables set up for COVID separation, that was our spot. I ordered the wing and slider combo; three wings and one smoked turkey and one brisket slider with potato salad. The other order was a kids brisket slider and fries. The wings were lighly smoked, good size and hot out of the kitchen. All sliders were piled high. Our server brought out some sauces with our minimal wait. I tried the sweet sauce on my sliders. Delicious. The potato salad was red potato style. Ample portioning. This was my fourth time to Staxx and every visit has been great. My last time there has been some years ago, but everything good about the first several visits continues to be good now. Great food, sizable portions and speedy service. I feel like we Yelpers reserve one star, for rude service or if, lord have mercy...the food makes you puke am-I-right? This barbecue did everything but. It may have been the single most regrettable thing I've done this quarter. Staxx as a synonym. Staxx as a refrain after a bad decision. Staxx as a blanket descriptor for the most regrettable of your bowl discharges. All in all I'd avoid this place and recommend it only to your enemies. The food made all three of us if not sick uncomfortable for the better part of 72 hours. Not my first visit. Was in town for business and stopped here for lunch. My boys love their Ribs. The smoked meat is excellent, and the whole idea of sauces give you a lot of options. Only wish I lived closer. Well worth your time to stop by and give them a try. read more

Not sure about some of the extremely negative reviews here but my visit was very much worth the price! I opted for the 2 Meat Combo with Green Beans and Potato Salad, I chose the Brisket and the Chopped Pork. The meats were well pepared, very flavorful and all very moist (brisket had a nice smoke ring with a combination of lean and moist pieces) and I sampled all the sauces offered from Sweet to Very Hot. All the sauces complimented the meats nicely without being overpowering! The Green Beans were okay but could have been salted more and the Potato Salad had a lot of flavor and was a large portion. Will be looking forward to another trip to Staxx soon! Yeah not good. Like as in nothing redeeming good, went with this place even after seeing the staff outside smoking and staring at us as we came in the building. Ribs were boiled, brisket was dry my buddy didn't even touch his sandwich and the pulled pork to go had a HUGE chunk of fat in it that couldn't have just been overlooked. Everything was tasteless, sauces were not that good either truth be told. Total waste of money. How this place survives is beyond me. Don't say you weren't warned, I'd rather eat a McRib than this again. read more

If I could sum up my visit to Staxx in one word, I would choose .... bland. There was nothing particularly wrong with my visit or the 'cue, but it just wasn't great. I am a big fan of good barbecue, but the pork and brisket I had at Staxx tasted more like it was baked rather than smoked. Good barbecue can stand on its own without sauce, but Staxx needed the sauce to liven things up a bit. I felt the Carolina Twang sauce was a little too mustardy, but the sweet and hot were both acceptable. I ordered a pork slider, a brisket slider, and a side of beans. The beans were more of the same - they tasted fine, but I just could not stop thinking that there could have been just a little bit more ... something. I was surprised at this little establishment. A little difficult to get to off the main road, but the highlights of the food and drink was excellent. In-house sweet tea was awesome. I also thought it was cool they had orange soda (which goes well with BBQ.) Oh, the mustard sauce! Since I've been in Kentucky, I'm surprised how hard it is to find good Carolina style sauce. Stack impressed me with the mustard BBQ sauce. For the smaller, local (and assuming old) building, they kept clean bathrooms. Big plus...nobody likes nasty looking bathrooms. I only have a few negatives - The cole slaw was watery, and my brisket was just a bit too dry. The smoky flavor was spot on though, maybe just an off day for the kitchen staff... Service at the register was polite and fast, it was nice not having to wait long at all before the food arrived at our table. read more

Staxx decided to offer deep fried turkey for Thanksgiving. They should stick with what they know. The turkey was way over cooked, dry, and tough. Even the legs and thighs were dry and tough. Never again will we make that mistake. read more

During Covid 19 a man needs some stability and comfort. Staxx has given me both. About 1 time a month the family and I order the meal for 2. It's only 17.99 and comes with 2 sides, sauces, and 1 pound of meat and Texas toast or cornbread. Our go to is 1/2 pound pulled pork, 1/2 pound brisket, potato salad, fries, Texas toast, sweet bbq sauce and Carolina twang bbq sauce. They also have smoked wings, smoked Turkey and other sides to try. Staxx is a hidden gem fir bbq. Most of the time it's a home run. Occasionally, something is only average you order, but mostly it's a good consistent bbq joint. read more

I got the pulled chicken and potato salad today. The pulled chicken was a very generous portion. Unfortunately, it was so dry and devoid of flavor I didn't finish my sandwich. I found myself drowning it in more and more sauce to try to get it moist but the damage was done. The potato salad was decent. It seemed fresh and homemade. They may have some other swell menu items, but if you can't get chicken right, it would seem ribs and brisket might be even harder to master. read more

Ugh. I love BBQ so much so I was hoping to love this place! I got a brisket dinner plate. The brisket tasted like it's never seen a smoker. It was cold when I got it (I went through the drive through). But they do give you a TON of food, which would be great if the food tasted better. The mac and cheese wasn't awful. It had good spice and was a good portion. But if you want good barbecue, I can't recommend this place. read more

Don't bother! This was the worst brisket sandwich I've had. The brisket was made in an oven, not a smoker. There was no smoke ring on the meat and it had no smoke flavor. The meat was so wet that it made the bun soggy. I couldn't pick up the sandwich because the bottom bun was mush! The sides were cold and seemed to be leftovers. Got the three piece chicken finger meal. Delicious. When I placed my order she said "it will take a few minutes to make is that okay?" I said "yes of course I'd rather it be fresh." Which it is. Nothing is overly seasoned. Chicken fingers were literally crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, not dry. I WAS gonna put four stars but the fact that they have a LARGE menu, sweet potato fries as a side option, very clean restaurant, LARGE bathrooms, and friendly staff I'm giving 5 stars. Love, love, love Staxx. Everything thing I have eaten there has been great. My go to faves are brisket, the pulled chicken and wings when he has them. (I don't eat pork) The sauces are really good. I was looking for a quick hot meal tonight and chose Staxx. Ordered the meal for 2 which includes 1lb of meat, 2-1 pint sides, sauce and cornbread. Pretty good deal at less than $20. I got the pulled pork which was pretty standard - I've definitely had better and worse. What was surprising was how awful the Mac & cheese and BBQ sauce were! I could not eat either. First the Mac & cheese- it had a very creamy and thick appearance but such a strange off taste that I couldn't eat it At All! It was so bad that the pint was just dumped in the garbage. The hot BBQ sauce, ( and labeled as such) was cloyingly sweet and crazy hot. I've never had anything like it. I'm more of a vinegar sauce person but regardless of the style, I always order it hot. This was inedible. Corn muffins meh. I ate half of one and that was enough. Coleslaw was the 2nd side and the only good dish imo. Don't think I would chance going back to try the other meats or sides. What a disappointment. read more

Their wings are addicting and my wife loves them. Friendly staff at a locally-owned eatery. I always opt for the pulled pork on Texas toast and fries. Good array of sauces. This is one of my favorite fast places to eat in Frankfort. I've never found anything to complain about here. read more

Staxx is a great locally owned restaurant. The brisket is particularly good here. The sides are typical of BBQ places. They are made on sight and very good. The sauces are homemade and offer a good variety. My favorite is the Carolina style sauce. Good heat and flavor. The sweet Memphis sauce is also good. They are served on the side so you can taste them all. The portions are outstanding. A dinner portion is enough for dinner and two lunches. The staff is friendly and fast. It is not unusual for the owner to work the lunch rush. The only down side is the small dining area. Better get there before 11:30. Word is out. It is very crowded by 12. read more

Lacking flavor to it. Quality poor. -Sausage - Juicy. Well cooked and seasoned. -Potato Salad - Decent. Nothing to write home about. -Mac'N'Cheese - Tasted store bought. The reason I'm giving it a one star is because of the service. Being a man of Indian origin, I was made to feel unwelcome and unwanted by the cashier and the waitress.
