Because this spot is not pretending to be anything. This is full-on, unapologetic dive. And I mean that in the best possible way. You walk in and it's like the '70s, '80s, and a little bit of someone's '90s basement bar all got together and said, "Let's not change a thing." Old banquet-style tables, a bar top that feels like it's hosted a thousand stories, and walls that have clearly seen some things. I loved it immediately. Now let's talk food. The folks next to me were deep into the chicken and dumplings and talking about it like it was a life event. You know that kind of table chatter where you start reconsidering your order mid-bite? Yeah, that. I went shrimp po' boy... and no regrets. Shrimp fried just right. Crispy, flavorful, doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Solid sandwich. The fries... eh, they showed up a little tired. Not terrible, just kind of there. A little cold, a little soggy, like they'd already had a long day. But here's the twist. You don't come to Judy's for perfection. You come for personality. For the feeling that you just discovered a place that doesn't care about trends, doesn't need a remodel, and definitely isn't chasing Instagram. It just is what it is... and somehow that works. Fold this into your expectations. If you need polished, keep driving. If you want real, pull up a chair. It's fun. It's different. It's got character for days. Four stars. And honestly, half the star is just for staying exactly the same all these years.

When we arrived at 6:00 every table was full including the bar on a Thursday night. Our waitress Felecia did an ok job, perhaps it was because of the 100% full, or the heat as the air-conditioning was not working and it was quite warm. Despite those obstacles, the food was tasty as always. I can not imagine how hot the kitchen was. We ordered only entrees tonight. I had the Country fried chicken with okra, coleslaw and hush puppies, I asked for the white gravy on the side and she had the pork chop with fries and broccoli. Both were cooked and seasoned perfectly and full of flavor. This place has been very good for the duration of our stay in Mobile (1.5 years). If you are traveling, this is where the locals eat, if ya know, you know. Fairwell Mobile.

No bad review Main course short ribs frites W/ au poivre EXCELLENT !!! Only regret no green peppercorns in the sauce (maybe due to farm to table requirements) Great food. Best lunch in Mobile as of today ! Service was good. However one of our entrees served 5 minutes after everyone else. Definitely recommend this place. One more thing: The pomes frites ABSOLUTELY THE BEST FRIES I HAVE EVER EATEN: BELGIUM HAS NOTHING ON THESE FRIES. I am 75 years old and been all over Europe. This is the birthplace of American Fries. THIS PLACE DESERVES TABLECLOTHS BTW: wood table sticky and did not feel clean due to finish on the table.

The sweet tea is the best we've ever had. The pickled shrimp is a classic 'Bama recipe. The Waygu double cheese burger will haunt my dreams with its juicy goodness. The steak & frites were very good. Tender with a sauce that was lush on the tongue. We were too full for dessert, but the blueberry cobbler looked amazing. Reservations are recommended, but they'll welcome you in like family either way. Vintage building adds so much character to this charming restaurant.

I left expecting memorable barbecue. I left wondering what all the hype was about. The restaurant has a true down-home, hole-in-the-wall country smokehouse feel. The building looks like a converted home, and the patriotic, pro-America décor fits the barbecue theme well. Unfortunately, our experience got off to a slow start. We walked in and weren't greeted, which made for an awkward first impression. I ordered the DDD Burger, the restaurant's featured burger made with a half-pound brisket and chuck blend, rib candy, pepper jack cheese, and Spicy Carolina sauce. I paired it with Boss Beans and French fries. My wife ordered the Smoked Pulled Brisket on a baked potato with pepper jack cheese, butter, sour cream, White BBQ sauce, and Sweet & Spicy sauce, plus a side of banana pudding. MeatBoss_Menu_12-5.pdf The food arrived warm, but it could have been served much hotter. The biggest disappointment was the DDD Burger. For a sandwich that's been showcased on national television, I expected something that would justify the recognition. Instead, it was simply underwhelming. I didn't dislike it, but I certainly didn't get the hype. It lacked the flavor and wow factor you'd expect from a signature item. The sides followed the same pattern. The Boss Beans were basic, and the fries weren't as crispy as they should have been. My wife's loaded baked potato was also underwhelming. The White BBQ sauce and Sweet & Spicy sauce were both okay, but neither added enough flavor to make the dish memorable. Dessert didn't change the outcome. The banana pudding was fine, but there was nothing special about it. Ironically, the best part of our meal was the Coke Zeros. Pros * Authentic country smokehouse atmosphere * Patriotic décor * Generous portions Cons * No greeting upon entering * Food could have been hotter * Signature DDD Burger failed to impress * Basic beans * Fries lacked crispness * Loaded baked potato was underwhelming * Average banana pudding * Overall meal didn't live up to its reputation I genuinely wanted to like Meat Boss, especially given its appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Unfortunately, nothing we ordered stood out enough to make us want to return. For us, Meat Boss wasn't a boss at all. It was more like Meat Meh.
