He took several pictures and showed us the wear and tear and dry rot locations. If it wasn't for him, we would be at risk for future water damage. After getting quotes from other roofing companies, I selected State Roofing Systems to remove and replace the roof on my house. OTHER companies provided quotes (that were more) and had some obscure exclusions. If I didn't understand the industry, I wouldn't have understood. State Roofing was very professional throughout the whole process. They contacted the City, obtained the permits, ordered all the correct materials to complete the job. They scheduled the project with my approval and performed the removal of the old roofing, applied the correct underlayment, install all the flashing properly. On the second day all of the shingles were installed, and they had the City Inspector scheduled to provide the Final Inspection. I can't say enough good things about State Roofing and the whole project. They performed the work with a high level of craftsmanship. And they were very honest, which isn't the norm in the industry. They also upgraded by shingles to Title 24 compliance when the regular shingles were not in stock. During the project, I found several employees have worked for State Roofing for many years. The foreman on my project has been there for 25 years. He mentioned he has stayed there for all of the reasons mentioned above. The office staff was very friendly, responsive and professional! This company will charge you for them to come out and look on your roof. I called them and it took them 3 weeks to come out. Then they took pictures and this guy Sergio ask me if I want them to take the broken tiles and I thought he was being nice so i said yes he didn't tell me the company will charge me for that. When i got the invoice there was a $480 charge for them to come out and take pictures and for the broken tiles. Called Chip Upshaw and ask him if the $480 is included on the $3800 roof repair and he said no and he said they don't work for free. So I called another roof guys( two brothers roofing co) they came and look and there was no charge to come out and look and they're $1400 cheaper. If you need roof repair call 2 brothers roofing co. State roofing was contracted for my Townhome complex to clean the gutters in January. When I had my roof inspection for the sale of my home in early April, just 3 months later, the inspection came back that the gutters needed to be cleaned of collected debris. When I spoke to the roof inspector trying to tell him my gutters were just cleaned, he said they weren't cleaned properly. Unfortunately since no one checks the work of these types of companies they can claim the work was done sufficiently when it wasn't. Now I'm having to fight with my HOA to either get State Roofing to re-do their work or pay another company to do the work. This was one of the worse experiences I ever had with dealing with a service vendor. We had State Roofing System come out to our property to give us an assessment for a roof repair for our company. Once they give you a mediocre estimate proposal that needs a lot of work, they don't even bother to communicate with you. We have contacted them numerous and numerous times about the project, they never call you back and not even a response after weeks waiting. So we decided to go with someone else. State Roofing Systems needs to improve their customer service and how they communicate with their customers. It only takes a few seconds to get back to people. I purchased a Firestone TPO-type roof from Home Depot back in 2014 (see my review of THAT fiasco, elsewhere on Yelp). The month after installation, it leaked like a sieve and I could never get Home Depot to honor the warranty and FIX it. So, having gathered that Home Depot is too incompetent to fix the roof they installed badly, I eventually settled with them just so that I could move on to my next fiasco, State Roofing Systems. They are a vendor/installer referred by Firestone, and after several months of trying to get someone to come out, I finally got an estimate, signed a contract, and had the recommended work done by State Roofing in October 2018. Come the big 2018/2019 rains and the roof leaked worse than ever! I had buckets catching water in 3 locations inside my house. State Roofing sent some guys out to supposedly solve the problem - they didn't. The leaks continued and now my ceilings are ruined in 3 rooms and the foyer of my home. I was supposed to have a 6-month warranty, but they wouldn't return my calls to try to get someone to come fix the problems. As I told them, I don't pay for a roofing solution, I pay for a roof that doesn't leak (just as you don't pay a garage to NOT FIX your car). Fortunately, I had paid the $2,351 to State Roofing on my credit card and a friend suggested that I dispute the charge, which I did. I just got notice that I get to keep my $ - I guess State Roofing didn't bother to contest the matter. I can't recommend these folks - not only did they fail to properly assess and fix the problem, they then didn't honor the warranty and just ignored my protests. I did find a great roofer who finally fixed the problems (no further leaks as of now!) and charged me much less. read more

I live at Garden Isle in Harbor Bay, Alameda, and State Roofing Systems, Inc. recently won a contract to re-roof all townhouses within our association. I was given a start date of around August 5th, which I thought was adequate advance notice for me to notify my boss that I would need time off from work (I am working a night shift, and can hardly sleep with a roofing crew stripping shingles, possibly plywood, and then re-shingling the entire roof over my entire head). Instead, I was awakened at 7 a.m. last Friday, July 16th, to find this company's roofing crew unloading pallets of shingles on my roof - no notification whatsoever. My husband contacted our landlord, who contacted the roofing company, and confirmed that the roof was to be stripped on Monday, with work finishing no later than Wednesday, barring unseen damage under the roof. I had to make emergency arrangements with my supervisor, who was put into a heck of a bind because I'm the project manager on an $8 million construction project that is scheduled to wrap up in two weeks, so that I could take the next 3 days off. Today, the third day, I called the Project Superintendent for State Roofing, Jack Lanto, to confirm that they would finish a small part of the roof that wasn't completed yesterday so that I could go back to work. He said he'd put the crew on it and finish by the end of the day. I just called back after 3 pm to see what happened to the crew, and was told to call the HOA if I had a problem! Of course, the HOA office is closed, so there is no one to contact. Plus, the crew is gone. I took the whole day off for nothing, and was lied to to boot. Lanto himself wouldn't even talk to me, instead conveying the message through the company's receptionist. The crew itself was very quick and very professional. However, the management is less so. Additionally, having had a roofing class at the Building Education Center and having done some roofing work myself, the shingles placed are about the cheapest quality I've ever seen. The roof on my place consists of three fairly small flat surfaces, with no corners or vents to work around. For this, my landlord was charged $6,000, which is quite excessive for the materials and time spent. Particularly in this economy, I would say that this company's work is very overpriced. Keep in mind that they also have the economy of scale, since they are re-roofing around 200 townhouses. All I can say is that I'm glad I don't own this townhouse. Addendum: when I spoke with Jack Lanto this morning, he insisted that I HAD been given notification. When I clarified that nothing had been posted on my door until 3 hours after the crew started loading pallets on the roof, and after we had called to see what was going on, he slammed the phone in my ear. ll never use State Roofing again. Two years ago I had them do the inspection on my house before I purchased it. Because we were worried about the roof we paid State Roofing to do an inspection in addition to our general inspector. During the inspection they found a leak and quoted us a price to fix it (which was done through them). The cost of the roof repair was taken into account in our closing costs. Less than one year later the leak was back in the same exact spot. When I called to explain the issue they said in order to REALLY fix the problem the area would have had to be "built up" to prevent pooling. After more questioning they said the inspection did not include underlying problems and only covered sealing on the roof. Why in the world would I pay for a roof inspector if they would not point out underlying issues? The whole point of having a roof inspection was to find out if there were issues with the roof! So now I am left with a roof that has underlying issues that I need to fix. Had we known there were underlying issues with the roof we would have asked the seller to fix it. Also, there was dry rot under the part of the roof that they resealed and instead of telling us they simply sealed over it. Now we get to pull that section of the roof out to replace the plywood. In addition, they try to make money on late fees. I received a bill in the mail one day before it was due and would have been charged a late fee if it was not paid on Sunday! When we called to clarify how to pay them on Sunday to avoid the late fee they said they had been really backed up and they would give us one more day. This is a company that is out to make money and does not care about good business practices. I would not trust them with my roof. read more

Hey, they came on time and did a good job. Mousa, the gentleman I talked with and who did the work, was thorough, polite and friendly. He was also professional, and explained to me what the problem was with the seals on our exhaust pipes which were causing rain leakage into our attics. I live in a multi unit dwelling. He took photos of how he fixed the problem and showed them to me. He also gave me a time estimate for how long this work should be good for. So, I am very satisfied and happy! Wow..... I had a great experience with State Roofing Systems approximately 2 years ago. I too live in an HOA and State Roofing not only posted signs on everyone's door as to when they would be starting, but also put a notice on my individual door the night before commencement of my roof. They were quick and concise. Of course, there was some noise involved (come on people there is hammering going on..did you want them to glue on your roof). I of course, have never taken a class on roofing like one of the other reviewers and If I had would never think I could roof a 200 building complex, but my roof was excellent and I am very happy with it. The price was ok. I obtained several quotes and State Roofing was not the priciest or the lowest. They were in the middle. All in all I love my new roof and would recommend the company to all. read more

I had noticed a rain leak in my house, our HOA arranged the repair through State Roofing Systems which sent two guys to my house; Mousa and Kevin. It took them about 10 min to diagnose the problem. They were very courteous and Mousa explained to me the problem in a very clear manner. After the repair, they showed me the pictures of the roof conditions before and after the repair. I am very satisfied with the work they have done. It is obvious to me that these guys are very professional, know what they are doing, very pleasant to talk to, and did a good job. I tried using them on a remodel job where the speed, quality and aesthetics of the job were important.
