RK Roofing was amazing-- I am so happy with their work! They gave us a new roof and replaced sheathing where there was dry rot for a price that was much cheaper than we were expecting to pay. The worker team was very impressive: so coordinated , skilled, efficient, and friendly. Chase was super helpful in coordinating the project and setting up the work for dates that worked well for us. He responded almost immediately every time that I texted with a question. Amanda in the office was very helpful too. She responded very quickly to my emails and helped us look into financing. RK Roofing and Construction has my highest recommendation! read more

One day I'm looking at our roof, seeing moss growing and noticing some missing shingles, the next day I meet Chase, RK Roofing sales manager, and within a week work has commenced. I cannot speak highly enough of everyone I met at RK Roofing. From the first consultation about which shingles to choose, to the excellent workmanship installing the roof, to the last inspection to see if everything had been left spotless, interactions were timely, professional, and always courteous and friendly. Their customer service is outstanding. I even received progress photos, which was especially welcome for our 3 story house. Highest praise for RK Roofing. read more

Thanks to Augustine Lazcano for his excellent work in repairing and replacing my roof. His patience in explaining the repairs that were required went above and beyond. All in all a superior experience. J.Warren read more

This is a great roofing contractor. We've worked with them for 25 years and 2 Oakland homes. Their prices are very reasonable and they do quality work, are prompt, fast, skilled and knowledgeable. They also take great care to clean up after every work day. Many of the crew have been with the company for 20+ years. If I could give 10 stars, I would. read more

I got 4 quotes. I selected RF because of their price and their professionally detailed description of work. RF clearly described to us about the things we need to replace, such gutters and down-pour. No cutting corners. RF coordinated with our new solar company to make sure the roof supports the solar panels. The construction supervised by Agustin were done professionally and on time. The workers were very careful around the garden, and most important the clean and put everything nicely after the roof is done. read more

I am very happy with the job that RK Roofing recently performed on our house. They were very professional, organized, timely and cleaned up, even my gutters are clean now, every day they were on the job. During the initial inspection of our roof Richard noticed that both our garage and attic space were extremely hot and needed some vents to release the hot air. So along with the solar reflective shingles that he installed and the new vents (one with a solar vent fan), the house has been cooler even though the last 3 days the outside temperature has been in the 80's. The owner, Richard Kang, was very professional as well as likeable. RK Roofing is an easy recommendation by me. read more

RK has done 2 roofs at 2 different locations for me. Richard communicates well, and sticks to his bid and timeline. The finished product is excellent. He did a full tear off for me 12 years ago, and it's held up over time. I just had an inspection and the craftsmanship was so good they thought it was much newer. He did the roof at my new home just a few months ago. The workmen were in and out quickly and cleaned up well. Highly recommended! read more

Ken contacted me after my request for a quote on Yelp regarding a skylight installation. As Yelp provides a simple form to be filled out only, I contacted the company and explained to the receptionist Cindy that we need to replace the existing single skylight with exactly the same. She took all data needed and promised an estimate. I had to call again and ask why we did not receive an estimate. After we did not receive an estimate, I called also the owner, Ken, he referred me to the other owner, Amanda. Both were under the believe, that we need 2 skylights, even though Cindy took perfect notes. I explained to each one of them that we need a replacement of our old single skylight. Today Amanda called my property manager to explain that they can install 2 skylights and cut them into 6 skylights !!! I called Ken and he said that they will provide a quote for 2 skylights. And this is all after I talked yesterday to each Ken and Amanda for 30 minutes explaining - ONE Skylight please! This company is a complete joke. Giving one star because of Cindy, as she answers the phone. What a waste of time. read more

Fantastic roofing company! I have worked with Richard for over 15 years and I can't say enough good things about his wonderful company and his workers. I recommend him to everyone I know. His company is the best! Excellent service and quality workmanship you can trust! Reasonable prices, too! Through the years, leaks will sometimes occur when a roof gets older and Richard and his crew always come out right away to trouble shoot and fix the problem. Just last week, Agustin was very thorough and found the source of a tricky leak in the ceiling of my garage. He carefully inspected the roof of my garage, and then figured out the leak in the ceiling wasn't from the roof, but rather, it was from the failed caulking of a wall above the garage. They helped me caulk the areas and my leak wasn't even from the roof! Now that is helpful! read more

RIP OFF/SCAMMERS - Don't fall for their $1000 quick fix on your roof. You will be paying for a very expensive 1-2 hours of labor with a little money spent on their end on materials, and little hope on your end of the problem being fixed. And your reward? $1000 off of a new roof if you hire them. read more

Very strange owner named Ken. He utilizes this new business approach that ultimately culminates with him calling me (potential customer) an "asshole". Yep, ive heard about this business approach being taught at prestigious business schools such as Wharton, Harvard and Yale. I think its called " The sabotage enigma" Its where you deliberately allow your potential customers to make several phone calls in anticipation of making an appt he is not interested anymore? The best part, is when I called to ask him what happened? He such a spineless, feckless (person) dont want o use the word MAN, he started to make feeble excuses like the "unit is too small" or how many "units are in the building" Things he never asked initially? I explained all the history and the current problems and asked both him and his secretary if all was okay? They both stated sure we can go ahead and get you an estimate. Well, this company cannot be trusted to stand by the owners word , which tells me the quality of work must be "substandard" to say the least. Do yourself a favor, try another company. And by looking at some other reviews others have been mistreated. read more

We had a new roof put on our house and Richard Kang and company did an excellent job. They came prepared with everything they needed and they knew what they were doing. They removed the old roof and put on a new roof in 2 days because they had eight roofers that worked very hard and efficiently. They cleaned up each day. Richard was also very helpful with our desire to have a cool roof with adequate ventilation and the second story of our house is now livable on sunny days in the summer. All in all, we are happy with our roofing experience from start to finish. read more

We love Richard. We had about 8 companies come bid on our roof -- a VERY old tar and gravel that should have been put in as a shingle roof. We went with Richard because he gave a very competitive bid, was super responsive, and struck me as being very experienced in comparison to the other roofers we spoke with. When they actually came out to put the roof on, unexpected rain was coming in and he pulled all his guys onto our roof -- finishing our 3 bedroom house (with significant rot) in about two and a half days. So, that was great, but the experience I had this weekend was what is going to motivate me to sing his praises far and wide. We have a small rental cottage in our back yard that we JUST converted. Three days after tenets moved in we had a huge storm and the roof basically gave way on one side -- rain was pouring in along the walls, and coming up through the floor. It's a mess. I called Richard frantic, he came out the same day to look at it, then brought his crew out a couple days later (on a Sunday), even though he was booked until May (!!!!). He really went out of his way to hustle and save us. RK Roofing is wonderful! An ethical and honest business who will actually really go out of their way to help homeowners (even inexperienced ones like me) when it's not necessarily convenient for them. read more

We recently bought a house that had the original shake roof, as well as one to two composite roofs over it. We got a bunch of quotes and Richard's was competitive, but I liked his energy and the fact that his guys got on the roof and didn't just gaze at it from the driveway. He answered the 120000 questions we had and we hired him and his crew. They showed up on time - or even a little early - every day. Richard was on site most of the time and his guys worked tirelessly and had my old roof torn off in a day and a half (so, so, so, so dirty), and the new one on in two more. This was in late summer/early fall of last year (2016). It's now February 2017 and we know it's been raining like crazy this winter. We have had no leaks, no problems, no issues. I was worried - I'm a worrier - and I compulsively checked the ceilings for signs of water for a few weeks but there's been nothing. I wouldn't hesitate to call Richard + team again if we ever need anything, and I would 100% recommend him to anyone. read more

Richard Kang was a pleasure to work with: Pre-work: Timely delivery of work estimate. An estimate whose terms, proposed materials, and price all beat those of one of the best-reputed roofing companies in Alameda. And constant communication in midwinter as we sought a dry-weather window during which he could re-roof our home. During the work: Richard stayed on the job site most of the time (along his job supervisor, who was always there when Richard couldn't be). Smart decisions and solutions re: dry rot and other minor problems that arose during the tear-down of our old roof. A quiet, courteous and effective work crew. All in all, a great experience for this, our first with a roofer. read more

I called and left 3 voicemails for Richard Kang but sadly he has not even returned or answered a single call...

Exceptional work! Mr. Kang responded right away to my request for a bid and provided a thorough assessment of my roof in Piedmont. He took time to explain the necessary repairs and answer all my questions. The work was done in a timely way at a very fair price. The entire team is professional, responsive, and courteous. Mr. Kang was always available to check on the workmanship and took care of all my queries very expeditiously. I cannot recommend this company enough! read more

Our roof was long overdue for replacement (already had two layers) so I decided to pull the trigger finally. Called 5 places in the Bay Area. Two couldn't even send someone out for a month to give an estimate. Three came out including Richard Kang from RK Roofing. All three estimates were in the same ballpark and were reasonable. I should mention that I called RK Roofing first because I saw them working on a roof on a neighbor's house nearby. I assumed they did their due diligence as well before hiring Richard. The other companies I got from Yelp. Overall, the cost and description of what needed to be done was pretty similar between the three companies so I decided to go with RK due to them having worked on other homes in my area and I liked Richard from the start. As far as the work itself, they were able to start a few weeks after signing on the dotted line which was great as I have my new roof before the rainy season. They stripped the old roof and completed everything in 3 days. At the end of each day they did a very thorough job cleaning up all around my house which was great. We also had very strong winds and cold temps over all 3 days so they were troopers working up on the roof and cleaning up after. The crew went above and beyond also in two areas which need mentioning: 1) some new stucco needed painting and I happened to not have any house paint which matched so they went to the store and got some new paint to do the job and 2) they took down a very old monstrosity of an antenna from 1950 on my chimney. They did all that no problem at no extra charge which I greatly appreciated. All I can say beyond that is I'm very satisfied with the work Richard and his crew at RK Roofing did on my new roof. I would definitely recommend them to any of my friends and neighbors. They have gotten a good amount of business just from neighbors seeing their trucks in front of other houses so I hope that confidence from others continues. I did my due diligence and I know I made the right decision. read more

I very highly recommend RK Roofing because they did a great job on our roof, which was a difficult job, a 100 year-old 3-layer roof, needing framing reinforcement and a couple of other twists. They are very affordable, as their pricing was significantly under roofers we got quotes from. The quality of their work is very high - our roof looks beautiful, the gutters are gorgeous, and the framing was all done as requested, even with some tweaks over time from our residential engineer. They worked closely with me to place several light tubes exactly where I wanted them. They even did a spectacular job of cleaning up, down to picking out little pieces of shingles from our gardens. They took the time to get it right and made sure I was satisfied. Richard's crew, I fond out, has been with him for over 20 years - it was apparent in how well they worked together and got the job done quickly, even tho it was the most difficult roof they had all season. Affordable, easy to work with, top notch quality... I really can't recommend them enough. read more

I have used Richard Kang (RK Roofing) exclusively for the last ten years. He put a new roof on a commercial building I own in Oakland (6400 sq. ft.) in 2002, including new plywood sheething. He then did a "delicate" gutter replacement on a 1926 home I used to own. Most recently, he replaced a roof on a small home I purchased in Castro Valley. In each case, he has been timely, professional, and reasonably priced. On the Castro Valley home, he stood on the roof supervising the work, and I watched him tutor the individual workers at various points in the job, to make sure every bit of work was to his standards. I don't imagine this can happen on every job, but it sure was nice. A big plus is the timeliness when the job begins, and the typically large crew size he uses. This gets jobs done start-to-finish in a relatively short time. As a licensed contractor myself (in an unrelated specialty), I very much appreciate Richard's capabilities. read more

Richard and his crew performed a miracle. My house is 130 years old and had THREE layers of old roofing. I had dry rot and bad construction of my dormer (it was sagging.)..and my chimney was crumbling. The guys did it all in one week. Pricing was more than fair and easy to understand. They cleaned up every day and final clean up was immaculate. They got up on the roof with a hose and tested all the gutters. read more

Richard was a competent, friendly professional throughout the entire job on my Alameda home; from bid to finish. He stuck to his bid price (which was very competitive) and was quick to explain the work, the timeline, the process, and how all of that would be affected should I choose to go with skylights, extra vents, a spark arrester (which he agreed to install last minute with no fuss) or other bells and whistles. Richard and his crew were respectful, prompt, and clean. They worked efficiently and still managed to leave things tidy at the end of the day. They completed the work ahead of schedule and the roof looks amazing. It has yet to see a wet winter, but has withstood a few downpours thus far with zero hiccups. I would highly recommend RK Roofing to anyone looking to repair or replace their roof. read more

We hired Richard to redo our roof about 1.5 years ago. Just yesterday, after a week of constant rain, we found a leak so we called Richard to see if could come out. He responded almost immediately. RK Roofing's 5 star rating is well earned. I called RK Roofing because they're ratings we're all so positive. His rates and contracting terms are fair and his work is outstanding. Some of Richard's crew members have been with him for seventeen years. Their efficiency and professionalism showed. Richard has done two roofs for me this year and I'd use him again, without question. The roofs have been on for about 8 months and have weathered a couple storms now with no leaks. They're busy and most likely booked several months out but they're worth the wait. read more

RK did our roof and did exactly what he said he would. Was done professionally and beautifully. Thanks!

When the horrific wind storm roared through the Oakland hill in January, it tore off approximately 1/3 of our tar and gravel roof and shattered one skylight and cracked a second one. This occurred at about 2:30 AM and to add to the misery, we were experiencing a 12 hour power outage. I contacted Richard Kang, the owner of RK Roofing the next morning and he came out the same day with his crew run by his manager, Augustine. They removed the damaged section and covered the area with heavy duty plastic sheeting to protect it until he could get back to replace the entire roof and three skylights. A few days later we had another windstorm along with heavy rains. They came back to check on the plastic sheeting and reinforced it some more. As soon as we had a few dry days in a row, he squeezed us into his schedule and Augustine's crew worked extra hours and on a Saturday to finish us up. I highly recommend RK Roofing. read more

The best way to describe R K Roofing and Richard it's owner is a "class act." I interviewed six roofers, two of which seamed quite good, but R K Was by far the most accessible. Richard just answered his phone and came over to my house to talk, and later came for an interview in my house. He was very clear and easy to talk to. He was the only roofer to offer a new type of shingle that is cooler in hot weather. The other companies all offered this shingle, but none brought it up in an interview. Richard was very careful about the selection of the color of he shingles going outside the house with me to hold the different color shingles up toward the roof. I never would have picked that beautiful color without Richard's guidance. When the crew showed up for work Richard was there to supervise. Each day they left the area cleaner and neater that it was before they arrived. Richard came with the crew each day. I have always been quite a complainer, but for the first time I have not a single complant. The best way to describe R K Roofing and Richard it's owner is a "class act." I took 3 bids for a roof replacement. I got the highest bid here, but he identified all the problems that the other contractors identified plus recommended what I would call a proper solution with a warranty. About 5 years later I had a leak and he came out and fixed it. No regrets. read more

I am pretty sure that I now have the nicest roof in my Oakland flats neighborhood, thanks to Richard and company. The design choices he made were always the right ones, IMO. Richard and his team installed a new roof for us about two years back. After the massive recent rains (we received more than 3 inches in a single day), I realized that there was a leak in one corner of the roof--water was coming down behind the drywall and seeping out across the floor (an earlier leak in the same area had prompted the initial replacement). So why the five star review? Because after I called Richard to let him know about the problem at 3:30 PM on a Friday, he was at my door at 8:00 the following morning. He inspected the damage, acknowledged the problem and mistake, and made a solid temporary patch. Then he had his guys back here by midweek, on the first day that the rains allowed; they repaired the roof (including making some alterations to improve overall drainage), tore out and replaced all the wet wall and insulation, and fixed the damaged floor area. All of that was done in less than a day, with the same courtesy and efficiency I remembered from the initial work. In a perfect world, every repair and installation would be flawless the first time. But that's not the reality even with responsible and solid work, and in case of an issue you want someone who will make it right quickly and with minimal fuss. Richard is that kind of guy, and I absolutely recommend Rk roofing. read more

Richard and his crew did a fantastic job on my roof. He offered me the cool roofing shingles at no extra charge and my house is already cooler on hotter days. (Silver Birch) He was reliable, charged less than ten percent up front and did not take a penny from me until the work was done and the clean up made my house and landscape look cleaner than before. He found many mistakes on my roof from prior distasterous roofer and charged very little to fix them and replace and add materials. I won't let anyone else near my roof ever again. I love the crew, they were honest, efficient and professional. PS: His estimate was extremely reasonable, and Richard was the roofer who gave me the best deal on and made me feel the most confident. He stuck to his price and I ended up paying less than I even expected with wood and materials replacement fixes. BTW, I interviewed and researched 10 other roofers, only 4 of whom I trusted but charged more than Richard, and 6 of the 10 were too slippery to trust. I just saved you a lot of time. You are welcome! :) read more

Richard and his crew were fantastic. I interviewed a ton of roofers in the East Bay, and, after much consideration, I contracted with Richard based on the thoroughness of his contract, his price, and his reputation. In the end, I wasn't disappointed. Richard is a complete professional, which means that you can expect him to know what's best in the situation and help you get the most satisfying outcome. Although we're in a drought, we did have a few weeks of pretty consistent rain in December, and the roof held up great. Richard has even followed up to make sure things are going well, which is more than many other contractors would do. I recommend RK Roofing without reservation. read more

As so many others have already pointed out, Richard is so responsive to his customers. In my case, he effectively dropped everything to squeeze me into his busy schedule when I was pressed for a new roof and having to meet a schedule for solar installation that had already been set. My roof was over 25 years old and although I had talked to Richard about his installing a new one but he had been so busy at the time that he suggested I wait a few months. Since I was in the early stages of researching solar panels, this was not a problem. I was in no rush to install panels either, only to have to go through the process of having to remove them again to reroof. Because of various unavoidable delays with the solar company, it was not until well into the fall of 2017 that a date had been set for installation that December. I contacted Richard and told him my problem. He said he could see what he could do. Within a day or two, he was back in touch, saying he could come the following Friday and part of Saturday. The rest is history. Importantly, too, the roof drew the attention of a well-known architect neighbor who remarked on the fine workmanship and asked who the company was. In short, I highly recommend RK Roofing for its customer care, responsiveness, and excellent work. read more
