German came out to provide a free quote for a gutter system, as well as a roof repair for a leak that has been an issue since we purchased our new home. German was able to accomidate and have his team come out in order to fix the issue before the upcoming rainy weather hit. We were hoping to repair the issue with the roof before more rain hit, as we were getting multiple quotes that said we needed anywhere from a simple patch of the roof, to a whole house French Drain which was upwards of $25k (!). Rather than jumping to the most expensive option to fix the issue, we knew we had faulty flashing which caused a hole/rot in our roof which allowed water to enter. German agreed, and while he was transparent and said that fixing the roof may not be the definitive fix, it was neccisary regardless, and we could do process of elimnation before jumping into the most expensive option. His team was punctual, and did great work, and even documented before and after with pics. German stopped by a couple times to check-in, which I appreciated, and the work turned out really good. Wow! this was an amazing company to work with! I am out of state and helped my son in Oakland find a roofer on short notice. He was deployed out of town for work and learned that his insurance company was cancelling his insurance because they thought his roof was too old. I spoke with about 7 different companies and was able to get quotes from most of them. German Lara was more than competitive with his very detailed bid. Oher companies said "quote covers up to 15% of OSB, with extra being replaced at X dollars per foot and X dollars per hour labor." German's quote stated that the roof had no OSB and installing it was part of the bid. There were no surprise charges. The quote included gutters, which none of the others included. German was more than patient with me. He responded to my calls quickly, often answering the phone when I called. He was very patient with me as we changed choice of shingles at the last minute, being more than happy to accommodate us. October is the busiest time of the year for roofers. He started the job quickly and was done on time. The scene was cleaned and left in great shape. The roof and gutters look great. I cannot say enough good things about this experience. Don't waste your time. I called. A guy answered. He was driving. Asked me to text my info. Next day, he replied and said he could come by "today". I gave him my availability. He confirmed an afternoon time. My new boss was visiting me from the east coast. I can't cancel on him when he's come all this way, taking time away from his own family. But, the roof needed to be taken care of, so I spent a half day with the boss instead and then drove all the way home for the Heirloom guy, missing an important group meeting. I waited and waited for Heirloom....mind you, away from my office in the back of my house where I could be working because I didn't want to miss the Heirloom guy. I finally texted at the 30 min mark. An hour after our scheduled time, I got a response. He was "stuck in SF traffic". (You mean to tell me that as a business that travels around, you don't have GPS on your phone like the rest of the world that could tell you about the traffic? And you didn't know, as you were on you're way, that you were too far to make the scheduled time? You're telling me you've been sitting in traffic for an hour and half before communicating to me? Please. He asked if we could reschedule. I said yes and took the time (like a fool) to give him my openings for the rest of the week. No response. The blatant disrespectful for others and their time is just disgusting. He could've just been upfront...your job is too small, I have bigger deals to work on, Sorry but I've got more business than I can handle, whatever.... and not strung me along. Heirloom Roofing is incredible! Like many, our homeowner's insurance sent a letter giving us 90 days to come into compliance with vaguely worded parameters. We jumped into action after wasting a week trying to get someone at the insurance company to better define their instructions. They had drone footage showing around 12 tiles that had worked loose after 22 years. We contacted 5 roofing companies, weeded out the guts who were spinning myths about what needed to be done (ice dams on an East Bay home? Seriously?) and got it down to two. We have a large luxury home and the other contractor in our Final Cut had done our neighbor's home a couple years ago. They seemed super professional, but distant and cool when it came to providing answers to questions. Ultimately, we went with our gut, German the owner of Heirloom was helpful, prompt in his answers and offered to fit us into a compressed schedule due to the insurance thing. The crew showed up at 8 am the first morning and every morning, then went straight to work, and worked till noon or so. They would then take a 1 hour break--some of them would fall asleep on our back lawn--then get straight back to work again till 5 or later. Every night, they cleaned up their tools and work space on the ground floor and were careful not to leave it a mess. Our roof took a heavy 4 day work week, plus a small crew that came back and finished up detailing the job on Saturday morning. We can't say enough about their professionalism. We asked them to clear patio furniture, large plants and small trees in planters on our decks and they did so with no complaint and put it all back together at the end. The owner even came back the next day and flew his (hi Rez) drone and captured a short video and a few freeze frames from an aerial view at no extra charge. These proved critical for the insurance company. Speaking of money, they weren't the absolute lowest bid, but their price was super reasonable and there were no phony upcharges that some companies do; low ball the initial bid, then once you get into the details, there are 15 annoying "change orders" that result in an expensive job. A completely enjoyable experience. The roof turned out great, it looks so much nicer than our much more expensive original roof and we got so motivated, we're about to get our house painted in the next week. Best of all, the insurance company just let us know that we passed and they are renewing us. Great company, great people! Highly recommended. read more
