When additional issues came up, including the need to replace roof decking before the shingles could go on, Israel reached out immediately. Even with that added scope, the total cost still ended up roughly in line with the next lowest bid, which had not included decking. He also went above and beyond on a skylight repair by having his crew prime the interior area to make things easier for the next crew. My neighbor, who is an electrician and electrical contractor (retired), recommended IB Roofing. They re-roofed his home not too long ago and he was pleased with the job they did. When I was climbing around on the roof installing Christmas lights I saw its condition and realized it needed replacing. I contacted IBR and German came out quickly to take a look and shared some initial observations, along with some preliminary options. A few days later he sent estimates on each option, clear and straightforward. I opted for the larger job of taking off the existing shingles--even though it was the first layer--and replacing any plywood as needed. I could have just had them put shingles on top of the existing roof but decided to go for the completely new roof, for peace of mind. I also added a skylight to the job, and German answered all my questions about the product details and costs. German and Israel responded quickly to questions, and communication throughout the job was great. The crew started on a Monday morning at 8am and finished by late afternoon on Tuesday. They even worked around my Christmas lights that were still in place! Overall I was super pleased with their work and the finished results. We've had a few roof problems - only because our homeowners insurance company took pictures of our roof and pointed out the cracks and worn roof, threatening to revoke the insurance. So we got three bids for a new roof (mostly flat roof as it is the Berkeley flatlands), and talked to the homeowners insurance company some more because they wanted "shingles" and I said "roofers say modified bitumen ... torch down ..." and finally the homeowners insurance company says OK. IB roofing put in our new roof in a few days. They got the permit with the City of Berkeley, removed the old roof, replaced some dry rot wood, installed our new roof and gutters for a reasonable amount of money. The only tiny hiccup was last-minute communication about the inspection by the City of Berkeley, but overall the IB Roofing guys are lovely and polite, would recommend them highly. If you are looking for a cost effective, professional, communicative, tidy, and considerate roofing crew to work with, I highly recommend IB Roofing. Long Review: I had been trying for several months to get a contractor to partially dismantle our chimney to below the roofline, and then to patch the resulting hole in our roof. The chimney is in the center of our house, not alongside an exterior wall or anything more complicated like that. At least 3 contractors overengineered/overcomplicated the job claiming we needed all kinds of scaffolding and multiple contractors (one to dismantle the chimney, and another to patch the hole, etc.) which was really baffling. So I was about to attempt to dismantle the chimney myself (wife was not excited about that possibility, and she's 100% right it's beyond my limited skillset) and began looking for a roofing company to patch the hole I would make trying to remove the chimney. I messaged IB Roofing about patching such a hole (yet to be created) and within 1 day got a response from Israel about taking a look at the roof. During his visit, he spent a few minutes looking at the roofline, and I decided to ask him in that moment, "I know I only asked you here to look at patching a hole in our roof, but would you at all be able to partially demo that part of the chimney to below the roofline as well, and patch the hole?" He said yes, and provided a simple, broken out quote for both parts of the job. I was floored by how affordable his bid was. A date was set, and I was pleased to see his crew show up when he said they would, and they got right to work. They set up simple, effective, and safe points around the roof to dismantle the chimney to below the roofline, and patched it beautifully. It took them a grand total of 4 hours to get the job done. We decided to reroof the house before installing solar, since the old roof was getting close to the end of its service life. Israel was very responsive, getting back to my on Yelp within hours. He kept in touch, rescheduling us due to the weather, and actually did the work earlier than originally planned. His crew was excellent. We had solar panels installed several years ago and then all of a sudden had a leak that caused the drywall ceiling in our utility closet to collapse. It turns out the leak was not caused by the solar panels but caused by some badly installed flashing near a chimney. We had more than half-dozen roofers visit our home to try to diagnose the problem and provide estimates to repair. I wish I could write a better review. Everyone else on yelp had glowing things to say. TL;DR - They came and left, and I never heard back. Don't return calls. Gerardo came over 1.5 months ago (!) for a roof and skylight inspection, and then promptly left. He didn't give me a business card, a date on when he'd get back to me, send me photos, nothing. Just drove off, and that was the last I heard. I probably called 15 times. And emailed once. I was told multiple times that someone would call me back by "tomorrow," and provide an estimate. Crickets. I would've long gone with another company, but there aren't many companies in town that also do skylights, and also, I've already sunk the durn time into them. 2 stars because it was free. read more

Israel and his crew did a fantastic job replacing our old roof last summer (2019). They were efficient and worked tirelessly to get the job done. Their price was very reasonable compared to other bids. With our old roof, we had an issue with leakage around our chimney. Israel informed us that water was probably leaking from cracks at the top of the chimney and penetrating behind the facade stones. He told us that putting new flashing against the exterior stone likely would not solve the problem. On his recommendation, his crew chipped down the decorative stone to the underlying brick and snugged the flashing to the brick. I'm happy to report after a heavy rainy season, there were no leaks. Israel was a little difficult to get a hold of at first, but keep in mind that he's usually on the job site working while also managing calls on his cell phone.
