Where to begin here. I have been in need of a new roof for a little while but putting it off. Asked around for some references, called up a couple hits here on Yelp and got some estimates. When Israel came by it felt different. He was a very easy going guy, didn't feel like he was selling me on anything and it was just an easy conversation, then he checked out the roof. His estimate and detail in the estimate was reasonable and quite thorough. When the work started it was done on time on the scheduled date. The workers did their thing, were all good guys doing what they do. No issues. The roof was in pretty bad shape as well, needed some repair as it was very old and Israel and his team just went with the flow. It's a little nuts seeing your roof completely gone after a day or so, then see it get built up to a completely new clean roof is pretty amazing. Israel and his team also put in venting. fixed up ALL the flashing, cleaned up all the existing vent pipes, installed a fan as well. It all went so well, easy and the roof looks great. This was by far the easiest experience I have ever had with a contractor and/or their team. They cleaned up very well and in 4 days or so poof they were gone, almost like they were never there, except for the beautiful new roof. My neighbor also had an issue with her roof and I asked Israel about it and he said give her my number. He fixed her problem in no time, on the fly, and she was very happy about that, especially with the possibility of big storms this winter, she was quite nervous. Isreal and his team did an incredible job all the way from estimate to final day cleanup. His team took great care cleaning up each day, respecting my abode. He provided status updates as well as discovered issues with dry rot in my case. I could not be more happy with the amount of care they showed on this project. Compared to the other contractors, which did on the project , IB had the best estimate even with the upgraded underlayment. The other contractors which I had requested either never came out or gave me a highball number and came back later with lower ones, which I don't appreciate. I liked IB roofing so much. Their pricing was excellent for the quality we wanted, and Israel, the owner, was great to work with: punctual, transparent, patient, responsive, and never pushy. He clearly explained what was necessary versus what was optional, and I never felt upsold. When additional issues came up, including the need to replace roof decking before the shingles could go on, Israel reached out immediately. A tree fell on our roof and fortunately we only needed 3 small areas repaired along with replacing a skylight which had a cracked top panel. IB Roofing was one of three companies I contacted for a quote. We decided to go with IB Roofing because owner Israel Bustamante gave us a reasonable quote and a date when they could repair it. I wanted it repaired sooner than later before the rain. Ours was a small job. They arrived in two trucks and was able to get it completed in 2 hours. They cleaned up the mess - leaving nothing for us to clean up and replaced the skylight (which we purchased ourself to reduce the costs). Because we wanted insulation added under our roof some other roofers ghosted us, but Israel and German understood exactly what to do. They did lots of extra things just to be nice, which were appreciated, like working together and coordination with our electrician, and connecting the lights inside the sun tunnels. My neighbor, who is an electrician and electrical contractor (retired), recommended IB Roofing. They re-roofed his home not too long ago and he was pleased with the job they did. When I was climbing around on the roof installing Christmas lights I saw its condition and realized it needed replacing. I contacted IBR and German came out quickly to take a look and shared some initial observations, along with some preliminary options. A few days later he sent estimates on each option, clear and straightforward. I opted for the larger job of taking off the existing shingles--even though it was the first layer--and replacing any plywood as needed. I could have just had them put shingles on top of the existing roof but decided to go for the completely new roof, for peace of mind. I also added a skylight to the job, and German answered all my questions about the product details and costs. German and Israel responded quickly to questions, and communication throughout the job was great. The crew started on a Monday morning at 8am and finished by late afternoon on Tuesday. They even worked around my Christmas lights that were still in place! Overall I was super pleased with their work and the finished results. We've had a few roof problems - only because our homeowners insurance company took pictures of our roof and pointed out the cracks and worn roof, threatening to revoke the insurance. So we got three bids for a new roof (mostly flat roof as it is the Berkeley flatlands), and talked to the homeowners insurance company some more because they wanted "shingles" and I said "roofers say modified bitumen ... torch down ..." and finally the homeowners insurance company says OK. IB roofing put in our new roof in a few days. They got the permit with the City of Berkeley, removed the old roof, replaced some dry rot wood, installed our new roof and gutters for a reasonable amount of money. The only tiny hiccup was last-minute communication about the inspection by the City of Berkeley, but overall the IB Roofing guys are lovely and polite, would recommend them highly. For our job, I got 3 quotes. The first one was from a bigger company with lots of reviews and the other one was a smaller company like IB. The smaller company basically gave me the same quote as Israel. The bigger company quoted me at 3X higher. I went with IB, because it was really easy to communicate with Israel either by text or phone. This review is long overdue but I wanted to ensure my roof could withstand a couple of wet winters. I dealt with a leaking roof for 5 years before I finally decided to replace it. I could not be any more pleased with Israel and his crew. They did a fantastic job. My roof has a steep pitch but that was no issue for them. Short Review: Israel and his team were truly remarkable. If you are looking for a cost effective, professional, communicative, tidy, and considerate roofing crew to work with, I highly recommend IB Roofing. Long Review: I had been trying for several months to get a contractor to partially dismantle our chimney to below the roofline, and then to patch the resulting hole in our roof. The chimney is in the center of our house, not alongside an exterior wall or anything more complicated like that. At least 3 contractors overengineered/overcomplicated the job claiming we needed all kinds of scaffolding and multiple contractors (one to dismantle the chimney, and another to patch the hole, etc.) which was really baffling. So I was about to attempt to dismantle the chimney myself (wife was not excited about that possibility, and she's 100% right it's beyond my limited skillset) and began looking for a roofing company to patch the hole I would make trying to remove the chimney. I messaged IB Roofing about patching such a hole (yet to be created) and within 1 day got a response from Israel about taking a look at the roof. During his visit, he spent a few minutes looking at the roofline, and I decided to ask him in that moment, "I know I only asked you here to look at patching a hole in our roof, but would you at all be able to partially demo that part of the chimney to below the roofline as well, and patch the hole?" He said yes, and provided a simple, broken out quote for both parts of the job. I was floored by how affordable his bid was. A date was set, and I was pleased to see his crew show up when he said they would, and they got right to work. They set up simple, effective, and safe points around the roof to dismantle the chimney to below the roofline, and patched it beautifully. It took them a grand total of 4 hours to get the job done. We decided to reroof the house before installing solar, since the old roof was getting close to the end of its service life. Israel was very responsive, getting back to my on Yelp within hours. We quickly scheduled a time to meet and he examined the roof, finding all the issues it had. He returned with a very reasonable quote and we hired him for the work. He kept in touch, rescheduling us due to the weather, and actually did the work earlier than originally planned. His crew was excellent. They worked quickly and accurately, and they were very respectful of the property, always cleaning up thoroughly at the end of the day. They performed a final clean up when the work was completed. The roof looks fantastic; all the issues noted during the initial inspection were addressed, including in particular areas where water pooled and the wood rot issues on portions of the flat roof. Got a handful of quotes and he was the lowest bid of them all. By a few thousands! I was so glad! Seeing he has solid 5 stars review here, I wanted to not only get the cheapest out there but have a little more confidence as well that I made the right choice and they will do a good job. Roof cost is no joke. Israel, the owner is easy to talk to. He doesn't come across as cocky like the other contractors out there. He listens to your needs. Very responsive. His crew took out old gutters and installed new ones. Replaced drains as well. Replaced a whole panel of Facia board at the back of the house, which I didn't even know they were going to do and some areas with dry rot. Only charged me for materials. No extra labor charge. Whew! IB Roofing is fantastic. Completely trustworthy, professional and 100% willing to help homeowners when you are in a bind. We had solar panels installed several years ago and then all of a sudden had a leak that caused the drywall ceiling in our utility closet to collapse. It turns out the leak was not caused by the solar panels but caused by some badly installed flashing near a chimney. We had more than half-dozen roofers visit our home to try to diagnose the problem and provide estimates to repair. Most roofers either said we had to replace our entire roof or refused to repair the work because it was not a large enough job. IB Roofing provided the only trustworthy analysis. They told us the problem, provided a fair quote to repair and gave an honest opinion about the "health" of our roof and when it likely would need to be replaced. I wish I could write a better review. Everyone else on yelp had glowing things to say. TL;DR - They came and left, and I never heard back. Don't return calls. Gerardo came over 1.5 months ago (!) for a roof and skylight inspection, and then promptly left. He didn't give me a business card, a date on when he'd get back to me, send me photos, nothing. Just drove off, and that was the last I heard. I probably called 15 times. And emailed once. I was told multiple times that someone would call me back by "tomorrow," and provide an estimate. Crickets. I would've long gone with another company, but there aren't many companies in town that also do skylights, and also, I've already sunk the durn time into them. 2 stars because it was free. read more

Not only was Israel and his crew prompt, professional, quick, and polite, but their work is well done and they even went the extra mile to patch up a few bits of wall completely unrelated to their project for me - just because they were there and had all the equipment to take care of it. pricing was very competitive even with a Velux fixture. Through Yelp, I contacted IB Roofing about a leak in my flat roof. They responded later that day and I made an appointment for the end of the week. A bit later, Israel contacted me and said he could come the following day - fantastic! He accessed the roof and offered two options: repair or replace.
