STAT lives up to its name! On Wednesday, I closed escrow on a house. I was aware that the heater didn't work and had to be repaired or replaced. The same day, I heard that a freeze was coming up on Saturday night/Sunday morning. On Thursday, I Googled what to do; I learned that, because I couldn't heat the house, it wasn't enough just to drip the faucets; I needed to shut off all the water, drain all the pipes, and drain the water heater. I'm an old lady and not handy AT ALL. I could manage to shut off the water and drain the pipes, but draining the water heater (which was in the attic) was beyond me. I did have a handyman, and I did ask him to do it, but he said HE didn't know how, and I'd need to find a professional plumber. At 8:00 a.m., I started calling plumbers. I had left messages with three, including STAT, and was about to call a fourth when Chris from STAT returned my call. He said he could probably come between 2:00 and 4:00, but even if he got delayed, he would still come that same day. I was ecstatic, but of course, there was still the tiny worry that this guy I'd never spoke to before might cancel or fail to show up. Not Chris! At 1:10, he called and said he was on his way; he arrived before 2:00. He took care of everything and answered all my questions. I hadn't even asked him what he was going to charge me, but the price turned out to be EXTREMELY reasonable for emergency plumbing services.
