The Concerning The final cost was $2,303.60 for what I've since learned should typically cost $700-$1,000 (that is including emergency service fees). While I understand emergency calls command premium pricing, this felt excessive. Additionally, the quoted price increased from $2,000 to $2,303.60 when it was time to pay without clear explanation of the additional charges. My Takeaway Apex delivers on availability and technical competence when you're in a crisis. However, I'd strongly recommend getting multiple quotes if time permits, as their emergency pricing appears significantly above market rate. The convenience of immediate service came at a steep premium that I wasn't prepared for. Would I use them again? Only in a true emergency where no other options exist, and I'd request detailed pricing breakdowns upfront. For future customers: Get clear, written estimates before work begins, and ask about all potential additional fees.

My AC condensation pipe was completely backed up and needed to be flushed. Their tech arrived on time and seemed very professional, spending about an hour and a half working on the unit and inspecting everything inside and out. However, he couldn't find where the evaporator line exited the house. His solution? Install an external pump and run a whole new drain line. The rough estimate for that was, well, a hell of a lot more than the $15 fee they charged me just to come out and take a look. When he left, I still had the exact same broken AC, was stressing over an exorbitant bill to fix it, and somehow found out I'd been signed up for a $15-a-month service plan that entitled me to another check-up in six months just in time for winter. Hoping to just get it resolved, I reached out to Service Wizard via Yelp later that evening to see if they could come back today to do the work the tech recommended. I never got a response. Frustrated, I called a different AC company. They actually answered the phone, sent technicians out right on time today, and those guys spent **five minutes** at my house before finding the external line, repairing it, and flushing my system. Problem completely solved in under five minutes, and the fee was incredibly cheap compared to the massive quote I got from Service Wizard. I will definitely be canceling my $15-a-month contract with Service Wizard and won't be recommending them going forward. Save yourself the headache and call someone else!

Several years ago, Airco installed a 3-ton variable-speed system in a house that had previously had a 2-ton unit (and a history of trouble keeping cool). After about a year of operation, our tenants reported mold in the ducts, high humidity, and a short-cycling unit. Our investigation found that the installer, Stuart, had never pulled a permit for the work. I want to be candid: it took a negative Yelp review to get Airco's attention. Jeremy reached out, recommended we upsize the ductwork, offered a very fair price, and agreed to close out the permits. I'm slow to trust, so I got second and third opinions from other HVAC companies -- they confirmed the system size was correct for the house, and that the ductwork should have been upsized at the original install. My own Manual J calculations agreed with Jeremy's. Notably, Jeremy was the only installer I could find who was actually willing to run a Manual J. He also followed through on pulling permits and getting the city inspection scheduled. Airco worked to schedule the new duct installation during the one week we'd be in town -- during peak season, no less -- and their crew moved fast and stayed professional, which I appreciated given how brutal a Texas attic is this time of year. A few days in, the system is no longer short-cycling, and indoor humidity has dropped to about 63%. Still a touch higher than ideal, but we think we can chase the rest of it down -- possibly window seals, possibly fan settings or duct leakage. I was impressed enough that I also used Airco for a plumbing call this week.

I was told I would hear from the contractor within 24 hours. Late Friday evening, I received a text from the technician asking if a Saturday appointment window of 10:00 AM-1:00 PM would work, and I confirmed immediately. Saturday came and went with no arrival, no call, and no update. By 2:00 PM, I had attempted to contact the technician several times before finally receiving a response that he was still on another job. He ultimately arrived around 3:00 PM and completed the visit. I understand that delays happen, especially in the HVAC industry during busy seasons. My frustration wasn't that the technician was running behind--it was the lack of communication throughout the day. A quick text letting customers know you're running late can go a long way and helps people plan their day accordingly. The service itself ended up being fine, but the communication and customer experience could definitely use improvement. Hopefully this feedback helps future customers and encourages better communication when schedules change.

A-US showed up the next day, replaced a capacitor, and rolled out before testing anything. I called AHS because the unit still was not cooling after replacement. they sent them back out, the guy that showed up second seemed really helpful. he tried to add freon and the pressures wouldnt change. he went to the attic and found a massive leak in the unit. he told AHS I needed a new indoor and outdoor unit. a WEEK later, they were out to replace the unit. it didnt go well. the tech spent about 3 hours trying to get this fancy unit to connect to the fancy thermostat. glad they upsold me on junk. after that, he gave up, left a note that the thermostat needed replaced. fast forward to the next morning, new tech shows up, troubleshoots it to a bad thermostat, LEAVES TO GO GET A THERMOSTAT!!! 3 hours later, shows up, replaces it, it connects, AC starts working finally. the note said it was a bad thermostat and he wasted 5 hours because he didnt bring one with him. Also, my thermostat is still just hanging by the wires today, a week and a half later, because they didnt have a backplate. Now, less than a week later, it can't connect to the unit again, and my upstairs is over 90 degrees inside. called on Wednesday, they hoped to be out Thursday, but made an appointment Friday just in case. These guys have the nerve to send a text Thursday late (5:15pm) when they close at 5, telling me they have to cancel my appointment and move me to Monday. They absolutely suck. First would be dont get AHS, but if you do, try to have them use someone else for AC before A-US. this has been an awful awful awful experience. A-US doesnt deserve the 1.8 stars it has on yelp.

I basically knew what the issue was, (a bad capacitor), but they did their due diligence and checked both the indoor and outdoor unit anyway to make sure nothing else was going on. They were able to swap out the capacitor and were in and out of the visit in less than an hour. The only negative I'd cite is the price. Every business needs to make money which is great, but I found their pricing to be higher than most, so keep that in mind as you are looking at options. The capacitor I had changed was ~80$ part and they charged $500 to swap it, so essentially 400/hour for labor. I also had them quote me replacement for a $200 fan and they quoted $950, so you get the idea. If you are looking for someone competent who can do the job right I think Alamo is solid. If you are more cost conscious and don't mind shopping around you can get things done a lot more reasonably IMO.

In my case, a $150 "special" promotional discount vanished when we removed a short run of basic flex duct from the scope of work. No explanation was given about the discount's removal. It just vanished from the quote. Awesome HVAC company, if you can tote the note, and navigate the, sometimes disappearing, morass of their special promotions, discounts, and coupons.

Sorry for the long review...but please read on to hear my horror story with this sorry excuse of a company. I don't normally write reviews (good or bad), but my poor experience with this company cannot go unheard. I feel obligated to warn others of their frankly criminal business practices. I originally called them out to take a look at my old HVAC that was no longer producing cold air. They identified the Freon was low and filled it back up. Worked well for a bit, but then got low again...indicating their was a leak in the system. The unit was so old, we decided to replace the unit instead of fixing it. The new unit was installed, but not without issue. I chose what they described as their go-to brand - American Standard. Apparently their technicians do not know how to install their go-to brand, because it took several days and several different technicians to get the install completed. A year later, the unit began tripping the breaker any time it went to the 2nd stage. Took them 3 days to come out (when approaching triple digit temperatures), charged $150 service fee and $450 in parts and labor to add a capacitor to the setup (a $50 part and about 10 minutes of labor). Did not fix the problem. Tech came out again, and said it seemed to be an issue with the breaker and that I needed to call an electrician to diagnose and solve the problem. Ended up paying $300 for an electrician to come out. When he took a look at the install, he was flabbergasted. He could not believe what he was seeing! He identified the unit was installed on an aluminum electrical line, that was severely undersized for the unit installed. He said no respectable company would EVER do this kind of shotty work. He said replacing the electrical line would likely cost a couple thousand dollars, since it was on the other side of the house. When I called Smart Air to let them know of the situation, the dispatcher was very dismissive. She said she would have their lead install tech follow up with me, but of course I never heard anything back... That is when they went dark despite several additional attempts on my part, and broke communication with me entirely. I ended up having to pay an electrician to run the new line on my own dollar - several thousand dollars - and now I'm finally back up and running.

We purchased a home in Lakeway with a mismatched but functional heat pump system. The compressor was undersized for our home and the evaporator coils were shot. Steve was the tech dispatched. He did a thorough inspection, was extremely knowledgeable, professional and provided several options without a hard sell. Despite stories lately about inventory shortages, Steve and Tim (the owner) arrived onsite within a week after the inspection and completed the install, including adding additional returns to optimize the system efficiency. There was a bit of a snafu with moving one of the registers to a new location that will require some drywall repair but follow-up with Tim has been excellent and Paleface will cover the repair. Its great to have found a reliable, responsive and competent HVAC firm. I'll be staying with them for service and recommend you give them a call. read more

Had a bit of a panic situation with my downstairs AC Unit. I tried to get the problem resolved through my home warranty but they were taking too long and I had a huge party coming up that would not go well with no AC in the middle of the hottest week of the year. Steve was able to come out same day and diagnose the problem immediately. He was able to go and get the necessary part and resolve the problem (clogged drain pipe). My condo has two units of hydronic HVAC units, which utilize water from the boiler as the primary fluid for heating. They are a pain in the butt to maintain because most HVAC folks don't have the expertise. I decided to call Tim and told him about the situation. 'Busy keeping Austinites cool... we'd like to help you..' leave your name and number. Our nearly 10-20 year old system had lost a battle against a 90 degree Austin day. I'd called a few HVAC contractors, all came to the conclusion that the Evaporator Coil had likely sprung a leak and was freezing up, causing the Fan to run for Hours...without managing to actually cool the house down. Two courses of action were available - spend a few hundred dollars adding 2-3 lbs of refrigerant to the system - to maybe get beyond the 2023 Summer Cooling System (fingers-crossed) or Replace the system entirely. I opted for the second. I'd never had to have an AC system installed/replaced before. After bidding out a few HVAC contractors in South Austin, I realized that most HVAC contractors have middlemen do actual change-out work... and later come-back to check their work. I didn't like that setup considering I'm investing $5-10,000 in parts/labor. No Thank You. Regan, the business owner of Cool Champs instead is involved from start to finish. Regan and crew did a meticulous job of pulling out the old equipment, hauling it off, installing the new equipment, and cleaning up their work area afterwards. Regan is passionate about the work he does. He welcomes questions about how the HVAC system works. How best to maintain your system, and how to keep your system running great. A live voice answered the phone, got us someone to come out during the week within 1hr. We live about 35min west of Austin in the hill country. Its mid June so we all know how hot central TX gets and how much we rely on ac to keep us safe during the summers. Ryan H was very professional, friendly, trustworthy and found the issue within the first 10min. Clogging hvac drain. He went into our attic, did his hvac magic.. got the system working again, told us how to maintain it and cleaned up as we worked. He was very respectful of our home. He took amazing care of us and installed a new HVAC system with all the bells and whistles available at the time. He basically made a customer for life in 2010. 15 years *later*, Chris and his team did exactly the same thing with our new 2025 HVAC system. Flawless installation in less than a day (and with perfectly mild weather to boot), meticulous cleanup, and fantastic customer service as always. For 3 dudes rooting around in our hallway and attic installing the thing, you'd have thought they were trained by ninjas. Throughout the entire day, Chris, Juan and G didn't disrupt or "get in the way" of my wife and I while we worked from home, and got it all done without a hitch. Chris even updated the pedestal that our outside unit would sit on so now it will remain safe, dry and out of the way of any rainwater. Excellent job, but who are we kidding -it was totally expected. Three years ago, I had an American Standard unit installed to replace an old unit. One Friday in September, it started clanking and shaking the house. The blower wheel came apart, and the blower motor went out. As this was clearly under warranty, the outcome was expected: the warranty would cover parts, and I would pay for labor. The technician promptly showed up and disassembled within 20 minutes. The diagnosis was straightforward, as the damage was visible. The price for labor? $1150. Went to Yelp for bids, and they all (7 in total) came in in the range of $275-$600. I went with a company right in the middle ($450) as their communication and availability inspired the most confidence. Several other reviews here will corroborate that warranty work is not a strong suit. I cannot give one star as the installation three years ago went really smoothly, and the technicians they have sent out are punctual, competent, and friendly. To their credit, they drove back the same day to drop off the damaged parts so I could have the work done by someone else. I was charged the $99 diag fee - which is fair as nobody should work for free. This wasn't very reassuring, as we make a conscious effort to support local, minority-owned businesses.

I got a second opinion from a trusted friend that referred us to this company and I glad I did! They found a refrigerant leak and were able to repair it and get it back up and running!
