The Grinch cupcakes (key lime cake, pineapple filling, and coconut icing), vanilla cupcake, and cinnamon cupcake with eggnog buttercream

My husband and I stopped here today after reading the great reviews. We have been tricked by the rave reviews of other places before, but this bakery lived up to the hype. The bakery is eclectic and fun. The flavors and themes for Christmas were cute and fun. I tried a plain vanilla cupcake, the Grinch cupcake, and a cupcake with eggnog buttercream. All three cupcakes were very good. The icing was the correct texture and the flavors were on point. The cupcakes themselves were also moist and well made. Overall this is our favorite bakery in Maryland, although it doesn't live up to some of our favorite bakeries privately owned nationwide.

Had a sweet tooth craving and after the reco of my coworker informing me of this establishment being on Cake Wars my tastebuds compelled me to check them out. Located in a outdoor mini mall area you could easily not notice it's presence unless your a regular. However, inside is a cake wonder land filled with a smorgasbord of sugary samples sprinkled around the shop that would satisfy any sweet thooth. Say that 3x's fast I dare ya. I keep my focus as I eyed the many deserts and finally narrowed it down to cup cakes. They have many different varieties and sizes. The larger cupcakes has creme filling which really drew my attention. They had to be the size of a Baseball! The presentation is great as they all looked so delicious but decided on a red velvet and chocolate cupcake. I could hardly wait as the kind attendant bagged them up. Where the issue is for me after I decided to snag a little bite during work was that the cup cake was cold so cold the frosting was crusted like if you leave it out too long uncovered. My imagination of the fork carving through a fluffy moist cup cake was shattered. So I decided to let it get room temp to see what happens. Got home and for dinner decided to try again because moms didn't raise no quitter. This time the icing was room temp , the fork went through the cup cake , the cake was moist nooooooooooooo. The cake was very dry and the filling inside I didn't see until I got mid way through the cup cake which wasn't much. All in all it looked beautiful the cost really isn't bad about less than/ or $3 per creme filled cupcake. The regular sized ones are less than that. But the crusted icing and dry cupcake left a bad taste. I'm willing to try some other cupcakes just the ones that aren't refrigerated.

Got my little wedding cake here and they did perfect! Cake ended up only being $25 + $15 for the flowers a few stores down. Affordable, beautiful, and delicious.

The 2 cakes are made by Starry Night Bakery.

I've had 4 cakes made by them and they all tasted amazing! I recently had them make 3 cakes for my wedding party and while the design of 2 of the cakes wasn't what I expected, they were quick to remedy the situation the best they could. I was a bit upset about the two smaller cakes, but my guests didn't know the difference and we all loved the taste. I definitely recommend the lemon cake!

Starry Night Bakery has been around since '02 and is owned by pastry chef, Shannon. They offer a variety of desserts, such as cheesecakes, vegan/GF options, cupcakes, plated desserts, cookies, biscotti, muffins, scones, cinnamon rolls, hot/cold beverages, sandwiches, and custom-order cakes. I tried their Peanut Butter Brownie mini cheesecake (this was soft and delicate, and the peanut butter taste was the mini pb chips that decorated the top); a Mahoo Wahoo cupcake (Kona coffee chocolate with espresso glaze and espresso buttercream; this was actually featured on the 'Cupcake Wars' - while tasting the best out of the 3 cupcakes that were ordered, it was a little dry and not at all sweet), VooDoo cupcake (caramel espresso; there was hardly any caramel or espresso taste to this one; super bland), and a Lemon cupcake (also no taste and no hint of lemon flavor). The hubs ordered some sugar cookies (one rainbow and one blue sugar), and while he thought they were okay, I thought they tasted kind of stale and off! I really liked the look of the bakery, as it was a mix of vibrant purples and blacks, retro, and punk, all rolled into one - a cute little vintage stove with little baskets of packaged cookies and biscottis on display. Service was a little standoffish. There are also a handful of tables inside where you can enjoy your food, but we had ours to-go. I may be curious in trying out their 'Spam Slider' the next time if I were to come back! +bland, dry cupcakes T____T +stale sugar cookies T____T +standoffish service T____T +eclectic decor

I had my wedding this weekend (11/18/17) and got a dessert bar with Starry Night. First and foremost, the owner Shannon was absolutely lovely to work with. When I went in for a tasting she gave me so many wonderful suggestions that the guests ended up loving. I have celiac disease as does my grandpa and aunt and the gluten free cupcakes were perfection. I can't imagine how good the regular cupcakes for the guests tasted. We also got 4 types of mini pies, cannolis, and chocolate chip cookies that people went nuts for. I had so many people ask who the vendor was so they could visit their shop. On top of it the display looked adorable. I wish my wedding photos were in so I could post a better picture of the display. So thank you to Starry Night for helping my day be even more special.

A smash cake to compliment the Where the Wild Things Are cake served to my sons 1St Birthday guests.

The layout is convenient for having a mix of seating and the volume was such that we could hear our party but not feel like we were screaming. The coffee was good. the people friendly, the snacks (ok not a meal but too much to ignore from the experience) the snacks were delightful. My wife almost ate half of my Pop-tart it was so good. I was visiting my mom in Northwestern Baltimore in mid October, and for some reason thought it would be better to go apple picking in Northern Virginia or PA. However, most places were concentrating on pumpkins, and we were about to leave empty handed. On the last day Of our trip I tried Baughet's, and I am so glad I did. Even though it was very busy, they had people helping w traffic and everything was moving smoothly. The ticket counter people were very helpful and nice. We got onto the apple picking tractor without a wait. There were many apples of several varieties and they were delicious. Much better than from a supermarket. We walked around the orchard to enjoy beautiful views. We then enjoyed hot cider and Apple fritters at their farmer market, and I bought a few things as well. My son enjoyed a playground and a lunch. They had quality live music. Of course it helped that the weather cooperated. They also have a petting zoo, but we did not have enough time to visit it. I can't wait to return in the summer. Definitely worth a trip.

We met with Pastry Chef Michael Markwitz at his (very nice) home to go over our wedding cake selections. We were served full-sized slices of his incredibly delicious moist cakes in his dining room, on Lenox china with a freshly brewed pot of coffee. HUGE slices of delicious cake - so you can taste each one several times as you're narrowing down what you want. He combines whatever filling you want with whatever kind of cake you want, so again - big slices of fresh delicious cake really help when you're mixing stuff up to make an educated decision. He helped us select the number of tiers we wanted and even suggested keeping the cake shorter and offered to make a couple of cakes on the side to save money. Not sheet cakes, the same awesome round cakes with fabulous fillings. The cake is cut and served in the back anyway, so no one would notice either way and the quality of the cake is identical. Since we're having a backyard wedding, he even gave us tons of detail on how to cut and serve the cake and drew me a little diagram as well (there is an art to cutting a huge wedding cake without butchering it and I'm grateful he took the time to explain.) We have three tiers and he doesn't charge any extra if we wanted to do all three tiers with different cake flavors and fillings. The Cakes: Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting - the cake and icing were dense and delicious without the cloying sugary sweetness or unsweetened butter greasiness of a lot of other bakeries' cakes and icings. Some kind of white italian cream cake with a layer of Swiss imported seedless raspberry marmalade and a second layer of custard creamy goodness. Dense and delicious lemon cake with raspberry cream - we went with this one. Again, not too sweet, not TOO dense - just right. The chocolate - holy goodness. There was some kind of incredible ganache filling in there that was to die for. He made another cake with crushed peanut butter cups in the filling - this was my fiance's fave and it was delicious as well. Believe it or not, I am not a huge fan of cake overall, but you can't NOT love this guy's cakes. They are fabulous and they are beautifully decorated. He spent well over an hour with us at 7:00pm on a weeknight to accommodate our work schedules. He scrolled through endless pictures of cakes he had decorated so we could see some examples and he made some great recommendations. He let us try samples of fondant even though the cake we were selecting was iced with buttercream. It was light and soft and tasted almost like marshmallow. Not at all what I expected fondant to taste like, but he makes his own and it is delicious. When I went off on a holy-crap-i-never-even-thought-of-that-what-an-awesome-looking-cake tangent, he brought me back to my original vision for a simple, plain, classic wedding cake, even though the other option that caught my fancy would have cost a significant amount of money and truly would have been an impulse-buy. The man is a professional. Damn it I love independent businesses who haven't gotten so big and self-important that they forget about their customers. What a drastic difference between a tasting in the home of someone who loves what they do, and an impersonal tasting at a busy bakery that barely gives a crap about you and expects a healthy deposit in advance before they do you the huge favor of serving you silver-dollar sized stale morsels of inferior cake. He takes consultations by appointment only, so you'll want to plan in advance if you need a cake. His site has a lot of great pictures as well. I highly, highly recommend Michael and his wonderful cakes. We drove an hour to get to our tasting and it was so worth it. He is very friendly, very knowledgeable and very interested in making sure you get exactly what you want for a fair price. It was a great experience and a fabulous reminder of why I love shopping small, independent operations most of all.

He gave us lots of different options to choose from as far as flavors and decorations. He also suggested that we have one of our flavors on a sheet cake that guests never see to save money, which we did. I've been to a lot of weddings where cake slices are left abandoned on the table, there is lots of cake leftover, etc. Our wedding was NOT like that at all. Everyone was talking about the cake and there was hardly any left! We had Italian Creme Cake w/Chocolate Ganache & Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Red Velvet w/Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting, and Italian Creme Cake with Vanilla Pudding & Swiss Raspberry. All were amazing, but if I had to choose my favorite it would be the Reese's peanut butter cake! The cake looked and tasted wonderful!
