The owner, Samira, was so nice and always seemed to be smiling. The staff, was able to accommodate my disability by delivering the food to my table. As much as I hate to be writing this, I felt like everyone should be aware of how unfriendly this place is for families. After picking up my toddler from school and noticing he hadn't touched his lunch, I had to pick up food from a fastfood place that he loves, but I don't. We walked into Starnut to have coffee with a couple of my friends, but as soon as they saw my toddler's food, the manager very very rudely asked me to leave. After explaining to him that it's just a small amount for my toddler, he let us stay but with a horrible attitude. I understand that outside food is not allowed in restaurants, but for a coffee shop to not accept food for a very picky and hungry toddler, I think this place could have made an exception. The quiche was fantastic - so moist and delicious, and the buttery crust was to die for! Croque monsieur and panini were also good. The staff was super friendly and kind. Even though the space inside is small, there is outdoor seating that the staff delivers food to. The food was good, but I felt that it was somewhat overpriced. Plus, the side salads that came with some of the dishes (an additional $3-4 with the quiche!) was just leaves and dressing - nothing else in it. I stopped in to study for a test I am taking nearby. It has a large seating area with tables in the front and rear portion. Lots of outlets to sit near with my laptop and free WiFi. I got the caramel latte and Ny Bagel. The latte was prepared perfectly. Not to sweet with a pretty design on the top. I should have taken a picture. The NY bagel was delicious! I've been coming to Star Nut once in a while for at least ten years now. It's a little pricey to be sure but the hometown atmosphere and yummy coffee make up for it in my opinion. This time that I went I had a great time. We got our orders in pretty quickly. I got a caramel latte and it was so delicious. It was creamy and frothy but not too sweet which was perfect. I came with my wife, who ordered a (flavorless) tea. As we sat down, I grabbed her water bottle to fill it up. The manager rudely told me I couldn't do that because I didn't order anything. I told him my wife did and that we were together, but he didn't care. So I had her fill it up. A few minutes later, the same guy walked over and said I would have to leave if I didn't order something. I explained for the second time that my wife had ordered something, but he insisted I had to as well. At this point we left. This is NOT how you run a business! This place has potential but our experience was really unfortunate. We walked in a full hour before closing and they basically could not make 75% of their menu items. The employee said the only items that could be served were cold sandwiches and salads. If you can't offer most of your menu, just close at 3pm instead of 4 because what's the point? The latte was mostly steamed milk and did not have a good coffee flavor. The sandwiches were overpriced items that could be made at home. For example, I had a lox and it was just smoked salmon between toast with nothing else on it. The other sandwich was roast beef and store-bought sliced cheese between a potato bun. I am sorry to say but this place is far from gourmet. I will give it another shot when breakfast items are available and because the staff were very kind. The menu needs some work, and the WHOLE MENU should be made available until you close like other establishments. read more
