Chicken and broccoli
Maggie C.

If you're looking for authentic Korean food, keep going, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a fast Asian meal, absolutely. Tried their radish kimchi and the chicken and broccoli. Kimchi was insanely salty. Chicken and broccoli tasted similar to any other Chinese take out, equivalent to Panda Express. I tried their hot and spicy pork, it had a ton of fatty pieces. An hour after our meal, both me and my partner were on the toilet, multiple times.

I can eat this every day!!

This is my favorite place to eat in Leesville. The Starlite Special has been a favorite for years!

I have been coming to this place since I was a little girl. My father was originally from Leesville and my mother is Korean. So when my mother was brought state side of course my Dad brought her here. We didn't live in Leesville; but my grandparents did as well as other family members. So I can remember almost every summer coming here to eat with my Dad; until our trips to Leesville slowed down after my grandparents' passings. The last time as an adult coming here was back in 2016 and then now. My father has since passed; and my Uncle and I came here with my two girls. It took a minute for the owner to recognize us; but she in fact remembered us all! The same lady still owns the place and the food is just as I remember it! Definitely consistent. Our favorite was the Starlite Special, which is her amazing version of bulgogi, fried rice and yaki mandu. I honestly like her bulgogi better than my mom's. Traditionally it's more soupy in a sense, but I love the stickiness and char to the way she cooks it. It's just got great flavor. This go around, of course I got the Starlite Special and then ordered the Kalbi Plate, Spicy Squid Plate (not on the menu), Bi Bim Bap, cucumber kimchi, radish kimchi and the cabbage kimchi. I wanted to order the Spicy Seafood Soup; but she was out of ingredients. Everything is cooked to order; the wait wasn't long at all. The portion sizes are huge here, and the price point it great. The Starlite Special was just as amazing as I've remembered in the past. The kalbi plate was yummy. Bi bim bap was amazing. The spicy squid, yum!!!! The kimchis were the only part that weren't my favorite.... The cucumber kimchi is great! The radish kimchi was a tad on the salty side, even for me, but I just diluted it with rice and was fine. The cabbage kimchi was not my favorite. She definitely puts hot sauce, like Louisiana or another brand in her sauce and well I wasn't digging it. I look forward to coming here again; service is great, food is fresh, and well this place brings back memories. I was so glad for her to meet my kids and they just loved her. If you're in Leesville definitely swing by! *** FYI she doesn't accept credit cards, cash only ***

Amazing food cooked to order. Friendly staff and incredibly clean place. Haven't had Korean food this good since Seoul

Starlite Special.

Leesville, Louisiana, which is near Fort Polk, has a sizable Korean expatriate population. While driving though town, I decided to stop into the Starlite Grill for dinner. The exterior resembles an old 1950s-era diner but appears to be adequately maintained. The parking lot is clean, ample for most passenger cars, but may be a problem for trucks and other larger vehicles. A sign on the front door informed potential patrons that they accept cash only, and that they are practicing social distancing in the dining room by limiting seating areas. The interior is also a blast from the past, with a 1950s-style lunch counter, as well as some booths and tables. The owner greeted me and gave me a menu, which had several Korean menu items, as well as a few Chinese and American entrees. The prices are reasonable which is what I expect from a cash-only operation. I ordered the "Starlite Special," as well as a small plate of cabbage Kim-chi and a Diet Coke--it seems like they have recently switched from offering Pepsi products to Coca-Cola here. A server brought out my drink and Kim-chi, and asked if I was fine with chopsticks or should he get a fork for me. I was fine with the chopsticks and overall his service was very friendly. Sitting at a booth, I can hear the owner grilling my entree which she brought to me. The Starlite Special consisted of a generous serving of bulgolgi beef, fried rice, and yaki mandu. The food quality is good and made to order using fresh ingredients. While eating, I was able to make some small talk with the owner, who told me a little bit of history about the diner--that it was about 60 years old, and that she had been running it for about 40 years. A lot of her customers are Koreans connected with Fort Polk, and she strives to bring them a taste of home. Overall, the food at Starlite Grill was good and the service even better, and I will certainly consider stopping by the next time I am in the area!

Starlite Grill located in Leesville, LA is a small cozy restaurant that serves multiple Korean dishes. Order at cashier and sit down awaiting your meal, diner sitting and 8 sit down tables. CASH ONLY, no cash app, no credit card. Recommend the Bibimbap, Spicy Squid, and Spicy Cucumber Kimchee. The Jajameong noodles are not traditional with beef steak within the Blackbean sauce. Ample parking right off the corner of S Fifth Street and E Singleton Street.

Starlight Special with cucumber and radish kimchi. This is what is left. We could have shared one plate. Absolutely delicious!

Absolutely delicious! My wife and I each got a Starlight Special (bulgogi, Yaki mandu and fried rice ) and could have shared just one. Kimchi was fresh and flavorful. This place is a gem!

Never judge a restaurant by their sign. This is the best food in Leesville.

This restaurant was my first ever exposure to Korean food. Starlite Grill has been in Leesville forever. I remember this place as a child. You never see many cars there and that is usually a bad sign for a restaurant but SG is a tasty exception. Granted, this type of restaurant is not for everyone. I understand that completely. This is not a fancy place. It is probably a little too casual. There is no waiter service. You order at the cash register. The restaurant is very small, too. Trust me, there is nothing elaborate or fancy about the SG. What you will get is terrific food and lots of it, too. The owner and staff cook up the food in a grill right behind the cash register. It is mesmerizing to watch them add ingredients to the grill so effortlessly. The kimchi is delicious and they have different varieties to enjoy. The Starlight Special is my FAVORITE but, boy, is there alot of food. The Starlight Special is fried rice, yakimondo and bulgogi. One special is enough for a family. It's so darned good, too. You will not see a big food service truck pull up to unload, either. Everything is done on site and brought in from the grocery store by the owner and his wife. One of my favorite things about SG is the atmosphere. I love the loud Korean voices, the games of majongg being played at the front table by the women. I chuckle when they get into an argument over the game and their Korean gets louder. I have no clue what they say but it certainly adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. Smoking is banned in restaurants now but in the past there was a cloud of cigarette smoke encircling the mahjongg ladies and it added to their character. These women might argue over a tile game but they sure can cook. Again, nothing fancy or special about SG but the food is authentic, plentiful and delicious. They don't take credit cards or checks. This place is cash only but worth every red cent. SG is the real deal when it comes to Korean food.

Our waitress came by quickly and asked about drinks and if we wanted rolls. Someone had already said you have to ask for honey cinnamon butter bc they won't bring it out. They brought 3 rolls and these were the best rolls I've ever had. Like so good. She asked if we wanted more but we declined even though we could have eaten a few more! We got a fried chicken salad and the western burger with fries. No steak ik we opted for something else to try first. The food came out at a good temp. Everything was pretty decent but just nothing fancy. Pretty ordinary and just ok. I did really enjoy the freshly made strawberry and lime mixed margarita. It was really great.

We got a basic taco salad and sopapillas order, with chips and salsa Togo. Got to the vehicle and checked the order. Salad looks good. Chips and salsa; a small helping, but they look good. Then we open up the sopapillas. There's the three sopapillas but then added items that weren't on the menu; assumed chocolate sauce, sprinkles and whipped cream. The menu says a tortilla that's deep fried topped with honey, butter and cinnamon. So it should be that simple. But with a dye allergy and staying away from certain things it was a bad surprise. So I went back in and asked/complained and told to wait for the manager or chef not sure who he was to get off his cell phone call. He came over and said that's how it comes. If I said to put the items on the side then they would've done that but since I didn't ask it was pointed as my fault. Then I asked if they can fix it and they said no. I left mad. My husband went back in. They talked it over, same guy that helped me; finally agreed they will fix it this one time but next time we need to ask. ( How do you ask about extra ingredients that aren't even on the menu? ) The food was decent eating it. We 100% would've been back for a dinner party in a couple weeks if their service was better. But we're going to take our time and money elsewhere, especially becauseof food allergies. I hope their attitudes get better in the future and they learn their menu instead of making the PAYING customer mad. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. So to end this review. I am sure there is better places to eat. Go to them. Go somewhere where they care you are spending your money, even if it's just for a $5 item or making it yourself and don't treat you like they are doing you the favor. Eating out is a treat not a must.
