This was my first time trying this local favorite. I'll start with I love the vibe, decor, menu, and staff/servers. I had the pork hash. Check the pic. It is an absolutely stunning looking dish. Just beautiful. Everything was cooked perfectly. Eggs. Pork. Potatoes. Toast. However there were some retry significant things that just made it average. Overall it lacked a lot of flavor. Sadly based on how good it looked. The sauce just didn't offer much flavor. I also wouldn't quite call it a hash. The potato's were HUGE as were the pork pieces. Hard to get a full bite of the dish. Pork to potato ratio was WAY off. I had maybe two fork sized pieces of pork. That beautiful beautiful toast. Zero flavor. Needed some butter flavor. I'll definitely try the place again because wow did it impress my eyes just not my tastebuds this trip. read more

Starliner Diner moved from the original location, but they took the mural wall as a Digital reproduction. They retained some of the kitch. It would have been nice to have a fan or art student do mural reproductions. The food was good. Not quite as amazing as I remember. The adobo and machaka didn't have the long cook flavor. The jalapeño soup was stellar. The bread was excellent. Service was good for a busy Sunday but not warm and welcoming. Two words: Mofongo Omelette Give me bacon, ham, plantains and cheese inside of my omelette anytime. It was sweet, savory and enhanced even further by the smoked chili sauce and green onion dressing that covered the dish. No complaints about the home fries or Cuban bread that accompanied the omelette either. I love the portion size, overall value, Cuban influence, interstellar decor, and parking lot. Very eclectic diner. Friendly service. Slow to get our food this visit but worth the wait. Breakfast is served all day. The omelettes are large. The farmers omelette is potato heavy but the potatoes on their own our delicious. Ropa Vieja has excellent flavor and spice in the sauce. The rice and beans are little bland and could use some seasoning but were cooked well. Excellent plantains fried crispy and sweet. The bread was OK but nothing special. My wife and I had been wanting to try this place for quite some time.y parents were in town so we decided to try this place out. We are so glad we did! We left very full and very happy! Everything on the menu looks delicious. Service was okay. They clearly stay busy on the weekends so the employees are hustling and bustling. It was a bummer to have to ask for refills on my water and coffee but if that's the only complaint I left there with, it clearly wasn't that bad! The food absolutely made up for it. Great ambiance. The service was a little slow today especially waiting for our check. But very friendly as usual. I got the eggs, potatoes and Cuban toast. Nothing special but good food. We also had mimosas which are good. It's nice to go out to breakfast and have mimosas! The ambiance is funky and there's a lot to look at so it's a great place for kids. I went to Starliner Diner for breakfast on a Monday morning and thought it was such a cute & quaint place! The decor on the inside was unique and funky. They have both indoor & outdoor seating. The place wasn't too busy when we got there so we were seated and waited on right away. They have a good breakfast menu with lots of options, but they also serve lunch & dinner as well. For breakfast I ordered the Starliner burrito, which was scrambled eggs, chorizo, refried beans, & jack cheese topped with ranchero sauce, sour cream & queso. It was very tasty and super filling. My boyfriend got the farmer's omelet which was another good choice. All in all I thought the food & service was great. I've always loved Starliner in the past. It was great food at their old location. However since the move, over the years, the food quality has gone downhill. I recently dined there with friends. I used to love the burrito, but it had no flavor at all this time. Their chili is now like Hormel poured out of a can. The bread was hard and inedible. The tap water had a dishwater smell. The atmosphere and wait staff were great though! I don't know if their breakfast offerings are still good, but dinner was not. read more

We had brunch here on New Years Day. I honestly can't think of a better way to start a new year. This place is easily my favorite dinner in the Columbus area. We get the Cuban Style French Toast. Every. Single. Time. I'm not even mad about it, it's amazing. If they ever don't have it, that would be incredibly disappointing and I would probably get mad... we got a small order, which was still more than enough! We only ate about half of it, and half of our respective entrees. For reference, we usually get a large and never finish it either. I think we almost finished it last time when it was 3 of us. I had the pork hash. I think I had it the first time I was here. It was delicious this time as well. I got the eggs on top scrambled, but you can order them however you'd like. I think we got there at the perfect time, because shortly after we were seated, the place filled up! The service and atmosphere is always great. After five years, Starliner continues to shine! Part of cool old downtown Hilliard and between two breweries. Great way to start your festive weekend day !! This trip enjoyed little cantina / bar area and team was super friendly and fun! Brunch this time was Farmer's Omelet and the Huevos Rancheros. Both were super tasty and perfect for what we were feeling. Huevos Rancheros had potatoes, black beans, eggs, tortillas, cheese and sauce. Sounds like a lot but was a great mix and didnt feel like overloaded! Family moving to this area of town, so looking forward to coming moore often !!! haha. Now that the Nancy's chicken and noodles were fully integrated into the Starliner Diner menu, I went over to Hilliard to pick up two orders for my wife and me. I've been craving for Nancy's chicken and noodles and now was the time for the 30 minute drive. It looked the part - chicken and noodles on top of mash potatoes with green beans on the side. Add in what I thought was Texas toast and I was ready to dig in. As I was taking the first couple of bites, I was surprised by the noodles. I'm used to long noodles in the dish but these seemed to be cut for some reason. Underneath the chicken and noodles was runny mash potatoes. Seasoning was lacking and bland so I had to add more salt and pepper. What I thought was Texas toast (and I love Texas toast) was a toasted on one side thick piece of bread and no hint of garlic. I will say I'm spoiled by the way former Nancy's owner Rick used to make Grandma King.'s chicken and noodles. For $13.50, it's plentiful but I think it needs more perfection from the cooks at Starliner. I look forward to giving it another try in a week or two. Hopefully they'll be more consistent in perfecting the dish we've loved and craved for years. read more

I'm in Ohio often. I like to experience new places to eat so I scanned the Yelp pages and found the Starliner Diner. I was drawn to it because it was an award winning restaurant featuring Cuban cuisine. I like to experience the food culture of different countries so this fit the bill. This restaurant is featured as a Cuban restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The parking lot was filled at 9 am which is something that I look for. If local do not support a restaurant then there is a problem "Will Robertson". I decided on the Cuban French Toast $8.50. It is made with homemade bread cut into little cubes, fried and topped with powdered sugar and let me emphasis "FRESH FRUIT". I could write a song about this dish. My breakfast partner had the pancake special $8.50, banana and coconut pancakes. The pancakes were huge and delicious. Coffee was $2.50 with refills. They have a full bar which is available for breakfast. The Happy Hour runs from 3-5 pm. When will some inventive restaurant owner feature a breakfast Happy Hour? I would be all in. read more

The plantains were amazing, cooked perfectly and the starliner burrito was so solid, packed with chorizo as the headliner with refried beans it was a good time. But the ambiance and service were great. Very friendly staff and the restaurant its self were beautiful. Filled with art and colors and obviously stars, it was a great time. What a cute and tasty little diner. My husband and I took my in-laws here for breakfast and everyone loved it. It is really unique and quaint inside. The staff is a little short with you but efficient! I ordered the Mexican chorizo omelet and it was so delicious, the potatoes that come on the side were crispy and tasty. My husband and I split a chocolate chip pancake because I always need a little something sweet too, and it was perfect. This place specializes in Cuban food, so we also had a breakfast burrito and huevos rancheros at the table both of which were said to be fabulous. My only complaint would be I personally would prefer the coffee to be a little stronger, also no one at the table go their toast. But we certainly didn't go hungry as the portions are huge! This diner is not bad if you know what to order. The specialty breakfasts, like the Huevos Rancheros, is excellent. The jalapeño soup, black bean nachos, burritos, and other breakfast items (eggs, toast, bacon, pancakes, etc) are all solid choices. Stay away from the cornbread crusted chicken casserole (sounds so much better than it tasted...) However, the dark haired younger lady that acts like a hostess is really rude and on a power trip with seating guests. I will say that the rest of the staff is very much on point with both service and being friendly. Would have given 4 stars if the hostess had a better attitude. read more

I've lived in Hilliard for the last 25 years, and have eaten here well over 150 times. Based on that, I had a group of four of us that were planning on having lunch here today, April 3, 2025, at 1 PM. Three of the four of us showed up at 12:55 PM for our lunch. There were at least five open tables / booths. I shared with the hostess we had a group of four, and would like to be seated. She told us she could only seat us when all four of our party had arrived. (Some data points: The fourth was coming from downtown, and wouldn't arrive until about 1:05 PM. There was no one else in the lobby. The restaurant closed at 2 PM.) I asked the hostess if she was 'kidding,' that we had to wait for our fourth versus being seated and ordering drinks. She said she wasn't. I asked to see the manager. She smirked and went off to find him. When the manager arrived, I asked him if we could be seated. He said as soon as our fourth showed up. I asked him why that was. He responded it had to do with the 'flow' for the restaurant. I asked him what flow was going to be interrupted by seating us when he had at least five open tables, three of us were present, and the restaurant closed in an hour? He said he hoped they would fill those last five tables before closing. I told him he could fill one right now with the three of us, and I didn't see how his 'flow' would be impacted. He responded by sharing he couldn't do that. I told him we'd be finding another restaurant to go to in the area, and I wouldn't be back to his establishment again. We went down the street to Local Cantina and had a wonderful lunch! Now - I understand the policy of waiting to sit parties until all members have arrived. I'm sure it's a great policy for restaurants that employ it, and probably helps patrons as well. However, sticking to this 'policy' when the situation warranted a different response was irresponsible of the manager at best, and negligent at worst. Good managers make reasonable exceptions to general rules. If I had lied and said when we entered we had a party of three, the hostess would have seated us at one of the open four top tables / booths, and when our fourth came along to join us, we'd have spent over $60 (which is what we spent at Local Cantina). No table would have been lost in the 'flow,' and everyone would have been happy. When we shared we had four in our party and one was on their way, then policy won out over common sense: we weren't seated, and Starliner lost a long-term customer (one who will share this experience far and wide, and has already changed his plans to have lunch there next Friday with another friend). read more
