We finally checked out this spot after my friends had been wanting to try it for a while. The space is nice with a good vibe, and there's plenty of parking, which is always a plus. I was a bit hesitant going in because it's been years since the last Yelp review -- that lack of recent buzz (good or bad) felt concerning. On a Saturday night, it wasn't overly busy, so we didn't have trouble getting a table (they don't take reservations but do accept call-aheads). I ordered the burger and onion rings, and both were genuinely delicious -- I was very happy with my food. Unfortunately, the experience wasn't as smooth for my friends. One has a severe seafood allergy, and she was shocked to learn that all fried items (fries, onion rings, etc.) are cooked in the same oil as the seafood. It made her nervous to order much else from the menu, and we almost walked out when we found out. A separate fryer or dedicated oil for non-seafood items seems like a basic accommodation these days. Two other friends are recovering alcoholics and were disappointed that the only "non-alcoholic" beer option still contained a slight amount of alcohol. Their only other choice was a sugary mocktail, which isn't great for diabetics either. In 2026, it's surprising that a restaurant/bar still struggles with these common dietary and lifestyle needs. The food we did eat was solid, but the evening felt dampened by the lack of basic accommodations. There are plenty of other places that handle allergies and non-drinkers much better. I would have scored them much higher if they could have accommodated this basics.

I would like to start with the good qualities of the restaurant experience. The service was good, our server was nice and honest, we were also greeted when walking in and acknowledged upon leaving. The ambiance was ok, it is quite dark unless you are sitting near the doors or windows. However there are televisions throughout the restaurant making it a good place to watch sporting events. The downside to the restaurant was definitely the food. It was our first time dining in and we got Brussels sprouts, a smash burger, house made tater tots, and a pepperoni flat bread pizza. The smash burger was the better of the items ordered, it was tasty and worth it on happy hour. The tater tots were very crunchy on the outside and mushy on the inside. The flatbread pizza left a lot to be desired, it could have used more cook time to cook the sauce and cheese more and add a crunch to the crust. The Brussels sprouts were crispy which I appreciated, however the balsamic glaze did not taste very good. Lastly, my wine glass was dirty, which I made the sever aware of for the next customers. Overall, Rail Craft Kitchen had a good happy hour deal and the burger would be worth getting!

Blue Bessie with side salad and cranberry negroni

They always have a great draft list here but on this visit we tried a seasonal cocktail. The cranberry negroni was nice and others at the table liked their drinks as well. I ordered the blue Bessie which was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. Love that there is an option to have a side salad instead of fries at no extra charge.

The Rail (4 stars) I have been to The Rail on a few occasions, and if I were to rate them just for their burgers, I would give them 6 out of 5. The Bonfire, Local Yokel, and 7th Heaven are amazing burgers, and better than almost any burger I have had in Columbus. The sides of onion rings or sweet potato fries (I usually get the chipotle mayo) are also great complements. That said, the service is about average, and this location can use an upgrade. We had a wobbly table and slow service on a 3:30 PM visit to an empty location. I will be back for the burgers, but I would be a bigger fan of this place if management would address some of these kinks.

After a long day of work, it was good to find a place to enjoy a good meal and relax outside. The burger special was delicious and had to have a side of fries. The only downside was slow service...kind of felt forgotten as others who were seated after us were waited on before us. Thus, the 3 stars.

My husband and I went here after going to the zoo and we loved it. I got the bootlegger burger and my husband got the bonfire burger. Both were fantastic. Some of the best burgers we've had! Very quality burgers and we loved our waitress Taylor! She was always checking in and got our food out to us fast! We waited maybe 10 minutes for our food to come out! The ambiance was great and the food was even better. I will be coming back!

I came here for the first time with my husband as a walk in for lunch. We couldn't decide if we wanted a burger or chicken sandwich so we decided to get one of each and split. We got the spicy burger and chicken sandwich with one of them having onion rings as a side and the other having fries. The server was nice enough to have the kitchen actually split our meals for us to make it easier for us to share. The food did take a really long time to come out for lunch, but when it came out, it was nice and hot. I wouldn't really call the chicken sandwich very spicy even with the hot honey dipping sauce. It was crunchy though. The spicy burger was OK, I really wasn't a fan of the jalapeño jam because it was too sweet for my liking. The burger needed some more texture to it too , like something crunchy. All in all, it was a good experience and we had a great server. Will try it again if I was in my area.

Good burgers. The menu is somewhat limited, with no other pasta option other than Mac & Cheese; not ideal. I ordered the Lokel Yokel Burger; a burger with an egg. I waited 25 minutes, which was a little too long considering the place was empty. The burger was good, and my server was friendly. Overall an average experience.

Tater tots and a French Toast Burger
    Brianne C.

I've visited The Rail a few times over the past few years and each meal has been delicious. This most recent trip I was able to order from their brunch menu for the first time, so I ordered The Morning Glory. It's a burger on French toast with bacon, cheese, and an over easy egg. I enjoyed it a lot! They're big on local, Ohio beef, and the burger patty itself was very good! I paid $5 to upgrade from a home fry side to the tater tots. While they were good, I don't think the upgrade price was worth it for 6 tots. We had a larger group and our server was great - on top of it with drink refills, to go boxes, and everything else we might have needed.

Do they allow dogs on the patio?

On my trip to The Rail on June 13, I sat on the patio. While enjoying a great meal and superb service, I did observe another table with a small dog in a carry cage/basket.

Is The Rail loud, can you carry on a conversation?

It's loud alright! I wouldn't recommend for a quiet first date.

Our server Kelcie, who was 5* by the way, helped us in navigating all the intricacies to the ingredients. Lots of nuance to the menu. Our choices: lamb appetizer, black cod, sirloin, and chocolate mousse; each were tasty, presented well, and excellent dishes. The potato cake on the steak was very different and well done. Our Old Fashion had a nice taste. The place is very small and reservations are a must. The GM Michael came by and chatted us up...to thank us for coming, and glad they were able to accommodate our food needs. Nice touch. Excellent bathrooms. Thanks for that. The small cozy atmosphere was a delight to enjoy a wonderful meal and conversation. The drinks were exceptionally great and since I'm coming from California, very affordable. The food was delicious, especially the braised beef croquets, chicken friend mushrooms, whipped ricotta, and sourdough. The pork collar and the tare squash were beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. I requested the sommelier to recommend a wine that would compliment our order and the Domaine de Ferrand Chateauneuf - du- Pape a fine French wine from the Rhone Valley was our selection. This was a beautiful bottle and fine selection. John, our server was the perfect gentlemen and server with great personality and full of customer service.

I stopped by here a couple nights ago with one of my coworkers while on an out-of-town work trip…read more Despite being a Monday, the place was actually pretty busy. Regardless, we were seated right away. We were given a spot at a high top inside but adjacent to the open windows for some fresh evening air and a nice cooling breeze. Unfortunately, service throughout the night was a little spotty. The first round of drinks took a while to come out, the app went missing, our server (who seemed slightly less than enthused all night) took the liberty of snagging an extra one for us, and then our entrees came out right at the same time. I started with the sunrise mojito. Being a bit of a rum snob, I am particularly picky when it comes to rum-based drinks and this one did not disappoint. Probably one of the best takes on a mojito I've had in quite a while. I eventually followed that up with the peach bourbon smash, which was also tasty but pretty heavy on the peach and less on the bourbon. To get started on food, we ordered the street corn nachos. Now, I do love street corn, but something about corn on top of nachos on paper doesn't exactly sound like my personal first choice. However, since my coworker was putting the food on his company card, he went that route. Man, what a mistake I made in my assumption. Absolutely amazing. Gooey cheese, excellent flavors, and not too much to fill you up. My coworker got the shrimp capellini, which looked excellent and he agreed it was solid. I opted for the crispy chicken sandwich (a gochujang aioli? Come on). The sandwich was delicious. The chicken was indeed crispy but also quite juicy. The fries were also delicious being slightly soft, slightly crisp, and not too salty. All in all, a couple service hiccups aside, this was a really fantastic place. I definitely will be sure to make my way back here if I find myself on another work trip for sure!

I've gone during brunch for my most recent visits and can't seem to stay away from the breakfast tacos. I think what makes the tacos stand out is the fried chicken. It's deliciously crisp while still maintaining an excellent moistness. Add that with gravy on top?? 10/10! I find that two tacos is plenty especially considering the side of potatoes. Highly recommend this dish! The true star of this restaurant is the biscuits, whether it's the cheddar & scallion or the cinnabiscuits. I truly don't think I've had a better biscuit in Columbus. They're THAT good. You can't dine here without ordering one of these options. I love the environment and how friendly all my waiters have been. During each visit, a manager has come up to our table and chatted with us about our experience. Very kind people! An incredible establishment all around.

The Juicy Lucy is only like $9 whereas other burger restaurants may charge more, is theirs grass fed to be more expensive? So then I started looking at other options on the menu and you could see those $20 and up but those dishes are actually pretty big for the price and now it makes sense why they are priced that much. I ordered a lamb kebab for instance which is in the $20 range that dish is meant to feed 1 person maybe for 2 days, if not shared with 2 people. That being said, not "all" nice restaurants are pricey as everyone states. You just have to really pay attention to the price tag when going out to eat. The service has always been excellent here as well each time. Even when we came during the final fifa game where someone ordered $2,000 doordash meal and entire restaurant waited for that order to be done. The staff were very nice and polite during every encounter. Looking for your next special celebration? Look no further than Cap City, for the service and price it just makes sense.
