The lovely little restaurant has amazing pot roast, crisp onion rings, floppy fries and deep fried fish on menu. The service was on the slow side as there was only one waitress on staff having trouble filling multiple roles including bussing, expediting and tending bar.

This was the first time we have visited in quite awhile. We were thrilled to find a seat at the bar as its usually packed when we arrive. We grabbed a couple beers on tap and ordered some food. I tried the Ohio Monte Cristo which I had never heard of before. It arrived hot and the portion size was generous. I swapped out the fries for mashed potatoes and brown gravy which was so so good.

Service was quick for late night bites. Ambiance was cool for being after midnight. The food was okay but good for a midnight meal and being the only open restaurant in town.

Gay street salad and tomato soup

Tip top is an above average bar for food. We got the full gay street salad and the tomato soup and cheese curds. The salad greens were fresh and the veggies crisp. The croutons and dressing are right out of the gfs case and do the produce a disservice. The tomato soup has a smoky chipotle flavor on the front but is missing a bottom note. It tastes like canned Campbell's with chipotle power and liquid smoke. The chives were a nice touch though. The pretzels were dry, over cooked and had zero salt. Definitely not worth the money. The bathrooms at 8pm were not in great shape. All in all not a good date spot.

We were in the area due to car problems, which took 4 days to fix. We found this restaurant and ate and drank there a couple days of our trip. Don, bartender on day shift was very nice and professional. He explained and even gave us some samples of the food to help us make our decisions. Excellent salads, pot roast, and Patty melts. The establishment is quite old and very cool atmosphere. Stop in if you're in the area and tell Don we said hello!

I've been to Tip Top many times! I'm never blown away but I do seem to keep coming back. The sandwich is a sandwich, not much more to say than that. It's nothing mind blowing but I did scarf the entire thing down! Waiter and bartender were both really friendly, and I enjoy the vibe here. It's not a super polished place and I think there's something nice about that! I give 3 stars because 4 seems like a bit much but I would still recommend people come here!

Love me some Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails. Located at 73 East Gay Street, Columbus, Ohio, Tip Top is definitely a Columbus staple. Street parking is available outside the restaurant and the surrounding area and the ParkMobile makes it easy. Tip Top has great food, slow but friendly service, and a divey feel and atmosphere. Five of us dined here during Pride right after the parade and before heading back down to Goodale park. Service was super slow but it never really is too fast but I have never cared. Enjoyed the time to talk and catch up with friends. This trip the group enjoyed: -Philly Cheese Steak -Tip Top Patty Melt -Monte Cristo -Steak-N-Swiss This has become a annual event for this group though I enjoy eating here throughout the year. I definitely recommend the Patty Melt and the Meatloaf if you are looking for a recommendation.

Pretty solid for late night food and a reliable beer selection - highlight were the onion rings and house-made chips, but most everything else I would say was fairly average. I appreciate the vast array of sandwich offerings - the Monte Cristo was nice and bulky with a generous portion of meat, but was a bit too heavy on the bread for me. My friend enjoyed the open-faced roast beef sandwich - super heart, basically like a modified Thanksgiving meal in every bite. Another friend of mine got a fried fish meal that was a nice flaky texture and generous portion. Was a bit pricier than I'd like for a late night meal though. So yeah - my synopsis is generous portions, but you pay for them alright... and the side dishes were more impressive than the meals. Appreciate the fact that their kitchen is open so late though :)

Came in after a performance at the Palace. It's middle of the day- probably around 2pm. There were not a lot of diners. The server was so nice, very attentive and talkative. They were very accommodating for my child and what she wanted- Mac and cheese, side of corn and side of broccoli. Hubs and I shared the Italian shaved beef sandwich and pot roast on pretzel bun. Great experience and I will definitely be back.

I was finally able to try this local gem. After hearing nothing but great things about it. I got my hands on a Tip-Top Pot Roast Sandwich, which was absolutely amazing . Very flavorful . I added some grilled onions to the sandwich making it a 11/10 sandwich. The fries were on the money as well. The restaurant was very dark inside but clean. Our server was very nice and friendly. Very fast service as well. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend stopping in and trying some good food. I wouldn't mind coming back and trying more items on the menu!

Let's update. What happened to you, Tip Top? The hours posted, still aren't the hours observed. Closing at 10:30pm on a Saturday with people still coming in - so it's clearly not "lack of business." You used to be *the* place for late night eats, you could always come in and grab a PBR or some old crow with a pot roast sandwich or chicken salad - but it went from "divey place with great food" to ... "dive with questionable food, if they're even open." More than once I've came before "posted closing" and they were closed. Like - walking up to the door with several other people all coming from different directions discovering "...it says they're open until midnight, but it's almost 10pm and they're closed?" I feel like they just want to shut the place down for good and are doing their part to make it happen. I've made it when they were open (by coming at 7pm) and the pot roast sandwich was as good as I remembered it, but the Ohio Nachos were... shitty - like... a new level of embarrassment bad, and they didn't get the order right (no sweet potato fries?) - but at that point I just wanted to get the fuck out of there. I just don't know what to expect from here anymore, and I really can't recommend it to people any more. I guess covid did a number and they may not recover if they can't fix their food, unless "PBR and Old Crow" is what they're banking on.

I have to use a massive mobility scooter (well, it's ADA compliant, but it feels massive to me, especially when I'm in a tight space). Can I get it in there? I don't see 'wheelchair accessible' on the list of the restaurant's attributes.

You can call to confirm. They would be best to answer. Here's the number from the internet, Ph:(614) 221-8300. It's a small walkway around the bar but maybe accessible just not aware of dimensions. Call and find out for sure before going.

Their visual chart is a…read moregodsend for cocktail explorers, and all of the drinks came out delicious and exactly as described. It's so creative, and the drinks are really the stellar stand out here. However, the atmosphere of those drinks is what gives me pause when thinking about coming back. The limited table situation, tiny cramped space, and loud music means that it doesn't feel particularly relaxing. People are constantly brushing up against you (even at 5PM), and holding a conversation at a normal distance is nearly impossible. NOTE: This place is covered in dust. No shade to the ownership as it doesn't appear to be anywhere near food prep areas (it's on the decor, on/around shelving, all over the faux plants, etc.), but if you're someone who's sensitive to dust, this is probably not a good fit. PROS: -I loooooooove how they've done their drink menu. As someone who is still exploring the potential of cocktails, their nerdy "chart" that places all of their drinks on a sweet/bitter and alcohol-forward/approachable visual chart is SUCH a help. As such, everything I ordered was absolutely amazing for me. I knew exactly what to expect from a drink because of its position on the chart, and it delivered. -Their drinks are really unique. Aqua faba? Fat washed alcohols? Lollipops or toasted marshmallows as garnishes? Super cool. Don't let some of the weirder descriptions creep you out of trying them. -All of their drinks were delicious. Everything I ordered was exactly as described. I often go places where the taste is barely related to its namesake, but they were entirely on-point here. CONS: -I'm not sure if someone called off that night as other reviewers are in love with the service, but our service was really really slow. No real rapport with the staff; just stating the name of a drink as they rushed past and then they were off to try to clean a table or take someone else's order. The drinks they made were great, but this isn't somewhere we'd go if we were in a hurry. -The pictures do not accurately convey how small this place is. Like, it's small. I'd guess less than 1000 square feet. My apartment is bigger by a lot. This isn't necessarily an issue, but it means people pile up quickly as they wait for seating (there's like 4/5 tables and then bar seating). The human walkways are small enough that the bartenders and other guests will brush against you a lot - even while seated. -I get the vibe they were going for here, but with the smaller space, I think a lot of the potential decor options had to "go" in order to fit more humans. It's giving me hardcore The Hearth Room (in Cincinnati) vibes, and I think it could honestly pull it off if it simply had more space. The "relaxed, sophisticated bourbon bar" doesn't quite come through as well when things are so focused on simply fitting in more bodies. -It's loud AF. Like, really, really loud. Between all the people and the blasting pop music, it required leaning into someone's ear in order to speak at normal volumes. We'd regularly have to pause the conversation if something in the music was building to a drop. This is not a place I'd take someone I wasn't very very comfortable with because it really requires being in someone's space to talk. -There's a single all-gender toilet here for everyone in the establishment. It's basically a revolving door of people in and out of it. The door auto-closes, however, so it's really difficult to figure out if it's open or not. There was usually a queue of people waiting in front of the door.

The bartenders clearly care about the drinks, and it shows in the freshness of their ingredients, how they pour, and even the pre-chilled drinkware. Every drink is made with intention, and even when I order a "classic", it's clear it's made with attention to detail. All of this while being on-par or cheaper with most of the Short North bars. Astoundingly cheaper than any of the rooftop locales. Seating is plentiful. You order at the bar and take your drink to sit wherever you'd like. Most of the seating/decor looks like it's from IKEA, but it's clean, modern, and comfy, and it's great for enjoying your drinks as you converse with friends. Denmark's vibe is very heavily "enjoyed high-end, balanced flavors in the company with friends and people you love to talk to". This is not a place to come to "pregame" for later activities. If you're on your own adventure, they have a small bookshelf full of cocktail nerdery (not just recipe books) including balance points for temperature and ice for perfect cocktail flavors. There's some really cool cocktail knowledge books to read here. It can feel a bit pretentious, but if you want balanced, unique flavors (no sugar bombs here) made by people who treat cocktail crafting like an art, Denmark is one of the few places in town you can find it.
