We were on a bike ride thru downtown on a Saturday early evening. A local periodical had listed the 185 as a late night spot for food so we decided to hit em up before darkness fell. We asked the waiter what was the 195 known for and without hesitation he stated that the burgers were the flagship of the restaurant! He also said that it would be a choice the would not be wrong. Well, he must be a descendant of Nostradamus. Good Lord what a burger! Let me rephrase...it's something the Lord made. Delightfully juicy, beautifully composed. I visited a couple times briefly to have a drink or so with friends who are in the area. They have solid a old fashioned. Can't say that I've ordered anything else drink wise. On a more recent visit I went to celebrate a friend's birthday and I did get food. Ordered onion rings and a double cheeseburger. onion rings 1/5-. The batter used is not great. It was a tempura fluffy batter versus like a cornmeal Crispy Crunchy batter. I guess it just depends on what your preference is when it comes to onion rings but the texture and flavor were not my favorite. Cheeseburger- 3.5/5 - solid burger. We came here with a group of 6 as soon as they opened Saturday, which we didn't know they weren't open for lunch so we had to walk around a bit until it hit 5pm. The burger was delicious! We ordered the cheese curds which were good too but a smaller portion size. We had the best time here. Service was amazing and I was especially impressed because they were very busy (Friday at 12:30pm). But drinks were flowing and food was fresh and hot. Everyone looked happy in the place! We had the wedge salad and I had the cheeseburger and fries which were so good. One of the best burgers I've had. Great neighborhood bar in German Village! Not a trendy place at all but where a lot of cool people hang out to drink and eat and not really a dive bar but has old school atmosphere. Great place for happy hour to hang with friends after work. They have a few TVs around but not many. That way you can focus on your friends or make new friends. Great menu with a variety of foods to choose from. They also have decent pours, a few drafts and of course my PBR along with several other beers in cans and bottles. Service is outstanding! Ambiance is cool, very old school, almost divish. And the food was somewhere between 'good' and 'delicious'. Started with the onion rings and Anchor Bar Shrimp. Both were very good, but the shrimp were outstanding. Cooked perfectly then bedded in the wing sauce made them wonderful. Had Joe's special, which needed some salt & pepper to jazz it up a bit, but after that it was very good as well. Started with an Old Fashioned. Although it was missing the cherry, it was otherwise very well done. One of the things I like best about this place is the service. We sat at a high top just off the bar (as there were no seats at the bar). During our stay, there were no less than 3 bartenders/servers that took care of our table. No waiting for 'your server' to return or be attentive enough to know you need something else. read more

Solid restaurant, pleasant experience. I had seen this place often. Heck, I drive past it a couple times a day, every day. But I assumed it was a bar. Then I heard they have the best burgers in Columbus. I made a point to stop in sometime when I had time to kill. Made it today. Street parking, which can be a pain in German village, but wasn't too bad. At one on a weekday it was about half full, but service was quick and friendly. The menu was very interesting. Lots of bar standards, plus some new stuff. The place has been here for about 70 years, but it is currently owned by the people that run Philco and some other places in town. Nothing fancy inside, just a well cleaned up old school bar. Pressed metal ceiling, bricks, a surprising amount of light and space. I got a burger, of course. Just a single, although I thought about a double. And some cheese curds because I have to get those. The curds were very soft and salty and seemed fresh, and were fried up nicely. Served with a mild mustard sauce. The burger was very good. A thin patty, perfectly cooked. On a good bun, with decent toppings. It's Ohio in the fall, so the tomato was not great. But a very good burger overall. However, best in town? We have some good burgers in town. And I prefer mine a little thicker. If you like very thin style, this will appeal to you and may be at the top of your list. I would put it in the top 10 maybe in town. Very good, but not stellar. But, with good food, an interesting menu, great service, and decent prices, it is well worth stopping in. It's handy near the village, cozy inside, and just a good experience all around. read more

Located at 185 E Livingston Ave, Columbus, and street parking is available on Mowhawk though sometimes you got to drive around a bit to find a spot. I usually get the Pigs in a Blanket, the Fried Bologna Sandwich, or the 185 double with cheese. All good choices. Service is consistently good and really enjoyed ourselves this last visit but I was really craving their Fried Bologna. Definitely recommend grabbing a meal here and another one of those great Columbus dive restaurants that has been around for years. I worked at Children's Hospital for 4 years and never made it down the street to Club 185! I finally stopped in with some friends and really enjoyed it. They have a laid back vibe and really great prices. We had the cheese curds and the spicy bean dip to start. The cheese curds were amazing, and the bean dip kind of hard to scoop up on the really excellent tortilla chips. I had a glass of sangria that was a surprising white with citrus, nothing particularly special, but enjoyable! For dinner, I chose a chicken salad sandwich. It was very full and messy and definitely good! Added on the fries, which are thin cut and fresh, like fair fries, and I'm a sucker for fair fries. Everybody left full and happy and weren't out too much $$, so I'll chalk it up to a win! read more

Fries were salty and burger patties left a lot to be desired (think, McDonald's "hockey pucks".) The buns were on par. We also had tacos - the chicken actually had a really nice texture and flavor. Good smokiness. The beef was lackluster, almost like coney sauce. The Ortega sauce packets were perfect for what I wanted... but The shells were terrible. They were mush when we got them - how the hell?? Overall, I'm being generous with my review, even with only having had 1 bite of each of my dishes and calling it quits. I look at it like "school cafeteria food". Don't expect much more than that.. I will be back, but I'd consider 100 other places first. read more

The outside of this bar/restaurant really does not reflect the inside of this establishment. It's surprisingly clean/comfortable/"modern" inside while still maintaining some of its historical significance. (They've been open forever!) Don't let that old-school Club 185 sign mislead you; it's not the dive bar atmosphere you'd find in most places with that type of sign. PROS: -Open late. Seems to be a place everybody knows about too because they're still pretty busy at 10/11 PM on weeknights. The "off-peak" hours for this place are probably during the daytime. -Drinks were poured well and deliciously. Only good things to say about the drinks - and especially about their well prices. I was surprised a well cocktail was cheaper than a local beer here! -Ambience without being too loud. They had music on, but I was never screaming across the table to hear someone - even at semi-full capacity. It was a pretty comfortable experience. -Good variety of seating. They have booths, low-top tables, high-top bar seating, and a few arm chair seats for drinkers. You can probably find somewhere comfortable to sit here. I believe there's a single step to get into the restaurant itself. There are narrow walkways between the tables themselves, but the main walkway through the restaurant seems wide enough for a wheelchair. -Pigs in a Blanket were pretty good! The bottoms were a little burned, but it didn't stop us from eating all of them. They were delicious. -Prices vary throughout the menu. If you don't need a full meal or you shop their Specials, this is probably one of the most economical places I've found to eat in Columbus. You and a friend can both get not-slider-sized sandwiches for $7. CONS: -Wouldn't get the Fish sandwich again. Fish breading was very thick and overbroiled for the amount of "fish" inside the breading. Meatloaf sandwich was much better. We'd do that one again. read more

Went last night for date night... Walked in and it's a bit confusing because there's no hostess stand or any signs (at least that we saw) indicating that it's seat yourself. There were no tables or seats anywhere, so I grabbed a waiter that was walking by who confirmed it's "seat yourself, first come first serve." A bit of a weird set up and honor system considering there were 2-3 other couples waiting for tables as well. After about 25 mins a table opened and we snagged it. Ordered our drinks and food- we were starving because we didn't eat all day in anticipation of our visit her. Our food came out in about 5 mins- we ordered the club 185 salad, two hamburgers and fries. Fries were good. Salad was decent. Hamburgers were barely luke warm and the bread was wet‍ We started eating and realized we had no drinks- water or alcohol, both of which were ordered at the time we ordered our food. Ugh. We then had to wait until we could get the attention of a server, because there apparently aren't dedicated servers per table. Really poor service-We felt invisible for a while, but were finally able to catch someone's attention and then they brought our drinks. Overall, it was a very lackluster experience. We would definitely never go out of our way to come here again. read more

Comfortable,safe, clean, kind of friendly staff. I ordered a 4 Roses Old Fashion. It was made pretty tasty. Bartenders talked amongst themselves or sat leaning on back bar ignoring all the customers. That's fine if they didn't expect a 20-30% Tip which I don't mind, but not if your not conversing with guest. I think it's so rude for bartenders to do that. I recommend anyways read more

Club 185 has been a late-night watering hole in German Village for decades. I'm almost certain my mom went there for happy hours with her friends even when I was a kid. I hadn't actually been in myself until recently, when in need of late-night bites after a downtown show. The ambiance is good, and the space feels bigger than it looks outside. Servers were nice, and there were maybe 6 other parties also late-night dining at about 11:30 on a Friday night. We went for the artichoke dip and the reuben to share. The dip was awesome-- super creamy and rich. Interesting that it was served with slices of toast- not my favorite, but the dip was still great. The reuben, however, was pretty awful. Basically inedible. The meat was large chunks of gristle and not at all the thin sliced corned beef you expect on a reuben. I feel like I would definitely go back for drinks, but probably not for food any time soon, and definitely would not recommend the reuben. read more

I had such a fun time while I was here. Never been here before and I was curious about their pizza. Once we walked in, my eye spotted the phone booth which was awesome to see. My wife got one of their fruity drinks and loved it. The both of us got pizza and it was super delicious. Perfectly cooked and great crunch to it. I want to come back soon to try their burger. Be aware that you may come across their bar sitting customers that are beyond loud as heck. We were told it's normal for people to be that loud. They were rude, but it's not the owner or staff's fault. I hope some customers have a better sence of respect for others when you go. read more
