I chose the brunch sandwich which comes on a homemade rosemary biscuit and it was fantastic! My mom said her tuna salad sandwich was the BEST SHE'S EVER HAD!!! They even have jugs of water for you to take to your table which I appreciated a lot. Next time I'm in the area, I'd love to come back and try a coffee! My only negative is that our food took a very long time to come out. Although, it was definitely worth the wait!

Food: They have a large selection of breakfast pastries, including scones, cinnamon rolls, hand pies, and more. There are also some savory items, such as a rosemary biscuit. It was a tough choice, but when in doubt, I go for a scone, and they had a Maple Cinnamon one. I had it warmed up a bit, and it was delicious. These scones are not muffins in disguise, which means the texture is a bit drier and more crumbly--perfect alongside a hot beverage. For my drink, I ordered a London Fog Tea Latte. I was hoping to have it served in an actual ceramic mug, but those are only offered to customers who order drip coffee. That said, they made a very good London Fog, with a little extra lavender and plenty of foam. For my taste, it could have been a bit hotter. Service: Everyone who helped us was kind and helpful and gave us plenty of time to choose the perfect pastries. When ordering the London Fog, they explained how they make theirs and how they would add the extra lavender, which I appreciated. As mentioned above, they do not provide mugs for specialty drinks, using mugs instead to keep track of customers who have paid for bottomless drip coffee. I could bring my own mug from home, but I am not a fan of carrying around coffee shop essentials. Atmosphere: The building is nicely designed on the outside and sits on a corner with plenty of large windows that bring in natural light. It faces north, so you avoid the glaring morning sun. Upon entering, there is a short walk to the counter, where you can view all of the bakery and pastry items. A menu board above clearly displays the breakfast and lunch offerings, making it easy for first time visitors. There are numerous tables that accommodate small groups, and a fireplace with a couple of upholstered chairs offers a cozy seating option. Even after filling up with customers, the noise level was very good, and easy to have casual conversations. A nice visit and a place I would enjoy coming back to.

This place. WOW. Never have I seen/found anything else quite like Idyll anywhere; and by Milwaukee…read morearea standards, this place is quite unique. Located in a LARGE building on a very busy street (North Ave at 64th Street), parking at times can be a bit dicey, but it's worth the trouble. There are a few parking spots in the rear along the alleyway, as well as street parking where you can find it. As mentioned, the place is big by "coffee shop" standards, I'm talking HUGE. Two stories, with gorgeous lighting, large bright windows (always a plus in Wisconsin), lots of places to hunker down and chat with friends or study (it's big with the local medical college/office crowd), or just to spend some time on one's computer, or reading a good book. I will say the atmosphere at times is not very conducive to concentration or anything overly "zen"--it can be a rather boisterous place when it gets going--with lots of chatter and background music. The interior is very "Scandi modern:" lots of light woods, gorgeous furniture, interesting artwork, and lots of greenery, while still being somewhat minimal in flavor. There are lots of little areas and nooks to hang out in, as well as a few outdoor tables in front of the building. They have two useful entrances: in front (with stairs), as well as a more low key rear entrance (with ramp). Inside there's a large stairway to the 2nd floor, as well as elevator access. Clean bathrooms and a product area offering various coffees, mugs, and other coffee/Idyll ephemera, also help with the overall atmosphere. It's cozy, while feeling open at the same time; if they were aiming for "hygge," I think they nailed it. The owner/designer apparently spared no expense when it came to making Idyll truly a "destination" location. One of the most interesting bits at Idyll is a large interior window wall where one can watch the roasting process in real time (when available). That being said, the coffee itself is fantastic, of course, complete with a ton of flavor varieties. Knowing their coffee is roasted right there in house is a plus. Knowing that it's also woman-owned, with art by real artists, is an even bigger plus. As far as their food choices, they're kind of "meh" IMHO. Very standard coffee shop fare: light breakfast/brunch items: avocado toast, eggs, danish, salads, etc. Might do them well to add other more robust or unique menu items going forward; however, I'm guessing the majority of patrons are there for the coffee, the company, and the atmosphere. Overall, this is quite an amazing place, one that (as their website states) makes me long to go back again as soon as possible!

What I especially appreciate about Idyll is the quality and consistency of the hot beverages their baristas make. The mochas and London Fogs have the right balance of flavors, the foam is very good, and the drinks are served hot and finished nicely with some decent latte art. My go-to place if I'm in that part of town.

Listen. I've lived in the Milwaukee metro for six years now (what? how is that possible? I don't…read moreknow) and immediately upon moving here six years ago, I made it my business to find all the best coffee shops. Or, so I thought. It's not often that I discover a new-to-me shop but somehow Cafe Blue just wasn't on my radar. I just missed them somehow. Well, no longer! This spot became a new favorite in one visit. Came here on a Saturday morning for some coffee, eats, and hoping to play a game or two of cribbage with my favorite cribbage opponent. Cafe Blue is a small coffee shop but they do have several tables and a comfortable vibe. They have a signature coffee drink menu, from which I ordered their snickers latte (as sweet and delicious as it sounds). For my breakfast, I opted for their breakfast quesadilla, which comes with choice of meat or veggies (I opted for sausage). It was ample, fresh made, and delicious. As I mentioned, they're a small shop. When we were in, there was only one person working. So that one person was working as barista, cook, and cashier. So, did our drinks and food take a few minutes? Yes. Did we care? Not at all. And, the drinks and eats were both worth the wait. This spot is definitely serving up one of the best fast casual coffee shop breakfasts in the Milwaukee metro as far as I'm concerned. Get to it!
