Wanted to update my review since it's been almost a year since I have written it. Nothing has changed--everything is still great and the staff continues to be nice and helpful when ordering. I would say if you come here to download the Collectivo Rewards app because the reward points add up pretty quickly. We moved closer to here so I can now walk here easier and it is my go to working spot if it's not too packed. The only downside is summer is coming and it usually gets pretty packed at that time. The only thing I wish that was different is that the chairs had some cushion because unfortunately, I wasn't blessed with enough junk in my trunk. So after sitting for a couple hours my butt gets really sore lol. read more

Colectivo is such a Milwaukee staple. This Bayview location is unique in its large seating area indoors and outdoors. The decor is cozy and there is plenty of space for everyone. The service is relatively quick, but this place can get busy! They have plenty of baristas and they're constantly working their butts off. I love their food and coffee! Colectivo has amazing bread. Seriously, I love what they've done with the bakery and often buy their loaves at local stores. As for the coffee itself, it's definitely a treat and more in line with a Starbucks style experience--albeit a local version. I really appreciate that they started making their own syrups for some of the seasonal drinks. It really adds that extra touch, and it's easy to tell when coffee shops use rum of the mill Monin versus making their own. I opted to try their squash soup with some sourdough on the side, and for a drink, I tried the almond brittle latte. Both were good. read more

WiFi works and the upstairs ambiance is great for meeting or reading over a coffee. My mocha was quite good, too,even if it was pretty cold by the time I got it. I arrived at the coffee shop 18 minutes before I needed to jump on a call. I thought that was plenty of time to order my drink; there were only two people ahead of me in line. The other line had only one person, but she was waiting for some coffee to be ground. Still, 16 minutes later I did not have my coffee, so I told them to put it aside and I would come back for it in 30 minutes. The staff were perplexed about what the problem was. They could not fathom what would be the challenge to wait even longer. When I went upstairs to make my call, the person ordering ground coffee was still at the counter, her bag of coffee in front of her, as she was doing what I could best describe as an interpretive dance. There was no one waiting at the other line to make an order. Still, the four people behind the counter could not figure out how to better manage the three drinks that were waiting to be made. Been here several times. And there is a lot to like about this place, with some minor exceptions. The building is large with many different seating areas. Inside, outside, upstairs, and lots of light through the windows. You can tell that they have put a lot of thought into the layout. This location is also the where they make all the bakery items. There is also a parking lot to the south of the building, that you enter from howell avenue. Great service when ordering. Even though it was busy, the staff person was personable, and didn't rush you through (thanks Sophie) They have an excellent selection of beverages (hot or cold), and a large selection of bakery items. There's also lots of other items that you can buy including merchandise and bulk coffee. We decided on a cup of Americana, a London Fog Latte, Almond Croissant, and a Mocha Scone. They offered to warm up the bakery which we were happy to accept. Here are the minor criticisms. According to my partner, the Americana tasted burnt, as if the beans were over-roasted (although coffee roasted taste is a very personal thing). The London Fog Latte was excellent, with the right amount of syrup (little lavender, little vanilla) and extra foam. The Almond Croissant was perfectly cooked, and warming it up made the vanilla paste just the right amount of gooey. The scone was not that good. Collectivo (and lots of places) make their scones more like muffins, or even bread. They overmix the dough, and it's no longer shortbread, or crumbly. Disappointing for me (I know of other local coffee shops that get this right. The other complaint is that the two Baristas seemed to having a great time chatting, but not too much concern with the coffee orders. I waited around, and watched them socialize as the waiting empty cups (with the order tags) backed up. In the time that it took them to make the orders, I had already received my bakery items, and made two trips upstairs and back. My other criticism is that this is a BIG place, and it has a BIG place feel to it. Not as cozy as some of the other coffee shops. But if you are looking for something a bit more expansive, the a Collectivo is a good choice. read more

While visiting Milwaukee we walked to this location for our morning cup of get you going on a monday morning. There were lots if people inside but ordering was quick. I ordered the cold brew with their house made cardamom honey syrup and it was delicious. Im a suckered for house made syrups! I also ordered a bacon and potato breakfast burrito which was also yummy. The coffee was very good but the atmosphere is what places this coffee shop above others with very good coffee. Prices were similar to other comparable cafes. My cappuccino was above average, with the flavor of the coffee coming through well. My son and several others in our group really liked the salted caramel latte with one finding it a bit too sweet. Lovely Colectivo, a little reminiscent of the original location on Lake Dr, with a dining area upstairs with an open view of the lower level. The bakery (Troubadour) is also located inside, with glass window dividers for a clear view of all the goings on inside. Bakery items kept coming out (around 1pm) and getting refilled. It smelled so good and they were so tempting! Keto blues.... Anyway, not all Colectivo locations are all great. But this one was good. Servers were nice. Coffee was as expected. Too much focus on filling mobile orders and leaving people in store to wait. Ordered a Croissant and small mocha on Sunday morning and stood by the counter for 20 minutes waiting for a small mocha. I went into the cafe today and was incredibly disappointed with the behavior of one employee (bald with a beard). He was rude to both me and the other staff, who all seemed very kind. The food and drink were amazing. I frequent the colectivo on prospect and am always happy with the service. I will absolutely not be returning to this location. read more

I found myself the first one up, of a group of seven, so what else would you do on a summer Tuesday morning in the trendy Bay View area? I went for a walk! And wow! am I glad that I did. I found this Colectivo location, repeat with plenty of outdoor seating, and some of the friendliest people working that you could meet. This is a coffee shop which seems to be wrapped around a culture, welcoming and inclusive, and serving up fabulous coffee. So what if their cinnamon roll might've had a touch too much icing? The bun itself was fantastic, and paired perfectly with their Pride blend. Definitely worth the try! Colectivo evens ships (yay!) so you can make their outstanding coffee at home. For those of us visiting Milwaukee who didn't want to risk having their coffee confiscated by TSA, that was a perfect choice. Yes, I know, those rules are mostly about liquids, but I erred to the winds of caution. I got a bag of Pride blend less than a week after my first experience at Colectivo, and four states away, here I am enjoying their roast. Win! read more

Meh I come here too often to give 3 stars...I must be a fan simply based on my frequency of visits. This has probably become now my favorite colectivo over the years. There's lots of seating, upstairs and down, inside and out. They have these swing seats along kinnikinnic (forgive my spelling) that are a really nice spot to enjoy your coffee. I'm partial to their iced sport tea with fruit juice, mint latte (it's got some name I can't remember) and whatever their seasonal drink is. Right now they have a citrus cold brew soda that is sooooo nice. It's cold brew with sparkling seltzer water and a mandarin flavored syrup. You won't think it will be good but it's so nice and refreshing. I'll be sad if they take it off the menu in fall, but last Christmas I remember a peppermint marshmallow latte that was really good. I occasionally have their food (usually a bagel or slice of banana/pumpkin bread) but I'm more partial to their drinks. With its many sickly houseplants, the ugly mishmash of woods in various colors and finishes, and their disconcerting contrast with the sharp, thin metals of its fans and fixtures, it is remarkable that in both drudgery and poor taste, these features of the "Bay View, Milwaukee Location" by the artist Collectivo are outcompeted for our attention, indeed outclassed, by the worker zoo it has for its bakery. Above a counter which runs from the side-door to the bathroom, and along another wall, there are panes of translucent plastic through which we see the early-rising bakers, sweating through their work-polos and their dark aprons, hands in food-safe gloves and hair in nets. Its mainly feminine and feminized front-of-the-house staff provide another contrast --which seems to be an intentional theme in the architecture and spirit of the piece--with the burly, stoic bakers. One group is all smiles, twenty-somethings in T-shirts showing their mystical tattoos and jewelry, so unique that they fit in perfectly; the other appear to be mostly in their forties, and they stand out in their uniformity and plainness. Questions are suggested by these bold choices, but no answers are readily apparent. Why the fins on the blades of the fan, so disorienting to observe moving? Why the dull greens in the horizontally paneled walls, opposite the somehow even more bland red brick? Above all, what statement is being made by this performance art piece disguised as a café? Does its creator mean to tell us something about the frozen nature of the class struggle? The obvious observance is that, in these contrasts, the artist makes a comment on society as spectacle, but the depth at which the artist is operating deserves, no, demands from us a more thorough and nuanced investigation. We begin with the choice of a unionized workforce. Recognized by the NLRB in 2021, the roasters, baristas and bakers are organized through the IBEW Local 494. But as with everything from this artist, there are layers to be peeled back: upon closer inspection, not only do most of the workers not know that they are in a union, but their contract includes a "no strike" clause, which reminds us of the upside-down impotence of labor, and of the ultimate futility of all human action. Death looms large over this piece. In materials, the choice of clear plastic as opposed to glass gives the viewer another sobering reminder: that there is no true authenticity, that we had better accept the cheap rather than strive for the real. On display is not simply that labor creates leisure, but also that leisure is labor, in the sense that the artist expresses in the smiles of the baristas. Is it fake? Is it real? Collectivo tells us that it essentially does not matter. The customers the artist has chosen--for the foreground or the background, a matter of perspective, and another question the piece asks us--tell us more in their silence than they seem to know. Of fifteen figures, only two pairs are in conversation, and one of these is the barista-customer transaction. Six are looking at smartphones, two are working on laptops, and three are staring around the place, hoping not to be noticed. We are told that if not all, then most human interaction is commercial, and the individual knows only themselves, if that. The loneliness the artist must have felt is stinging. Moving to the exterior of the work, again a contrast, a slap in the face, a splash of cold water: two concrete walls, two brick facades; hung on the former are wavy plastic rain-shelters, and on the latter, signage which seems to make fun of you if you enjoy it. Very 90's. Very Nirvana. Several homeless people, begging, accuse us of indifference, and remind us to look back inside at the bathroom doors, which have coded locks, to reflect on our conceptions of security, and for what--and for whom--we desire it for. The artist has clearly studied all previous movements in the medium and found no icons worth preserving; but not stopping at statue-toppling, finds nothing worth anything: the piece is pure Nihilism. As contrasted with the weight of the field of other commercial pieces which are the physical, structural manifestations of the words "literally", and "unhinged", the Bay View by Collectivo instead embodies the words "like", and "whatever". The Turkey Club sandwich is pretty good. I give it two Cookies out of five. read more

A very cozy coffee shop where you can order online and pick up your order which makes it very convenient to order and pick up when you need to go to the airport or my case to Amtrak station. I order from this place because my local friend recommend it and told us that was the best coffee shop around also because he want to get some points. They have a very good menu selection and also make a hot brew which confused me because I only had a cold brew. For my beverage, I order the Cold Brew Oat-Chata session cold brew coffee, oat milk, cinnamon, and vanilla syrup poured over ice. I went with the cold to be safe and was not disappointed with it, I also added some Whipped Cream so to give that extra touch. The coffee was very refreshing and had a great taste, will recommend it. For my pastry, I ate the Smoked Prosciutto and Swiss Croissant an indulgent, flaky pastry with savory smoked prosciutto, swiss cheese, and ham. It took 28 minutes for an iced latte. There was no sense of urgency from the staff to finish orders, even when they saw the timestamp on my drink and mentioned how behind they were to other staff. No acknowledgement or even quick apology offered. They got an extra star because the coffee and pastry were good. read more

I've never had something I didn't like from colectivo. Plus I love their coffee, it's some of the best. I recently had a pistachio matcha latte and WOW it was so delicious. The service is always great and staff will take care of you! This is my favorite location because of the outdoor seating but also all the indoor seating and 2 floors. I love all colectivo's but this is probably my favorite location. I just love the atmosphere and energy in here, along with the greenery and usual wood decor. The outdoor seating is great during the warmer months but the sunroom and upstairs are great too for taking in the views of the surrounding neighborhood. The staff here (and all colectivo's) is always cheerful and making the extra effort to ensure your experience is the best possible. One of my visits was for a mocha mexicana and chorizo burrito and both were absolutely amazing! The mocha was chocolatety and with the perfect amount of spice. The bottom of the drink proved to have the most kick where the chili powder settled but no complaints from this spice lover. Definitely my favorite drink here. The chorizo burrito was incredible. The combination of chorizo, eggs, cheese and black beans were heavenly so much on their own that I didn't use the salsa. Not that I didn't want to because that too was really good but I usually use salsa to add flavor and spice but the burrito needed neither. A few chips included might be an option to use up that great salsa though. This was literally the best breakfast burrito I've ever had! It was also the perfect size for me. Nobody keeping track of what order the orders were made, only one of the 4 people appeared to be making a drink at any one time while the others talked to each other and no acknowledgement to waiting customers. I know they saw me when I walked up, bag of bread and empty coffee cup in hand. One of the White workers saw me said "we'll be right with you." So I stood 6 feet from where the cashier would have to stand, and a tall White man walked up, inserted himself in front of me and this brought up a cashier promptly who of course served him first. With all the White customers thus served she turned to me and asked me what I wanted. When I pointed out that I was waiting first and asked why she served the White guy first, she said "I'm sorry, I didn't see you." That is EXACTLY the problem. Well, my problem, because I'm the one who expected to be treated with respect and dignity. A White manager did step in to apologize and make sure my order was finished. I appreciate his quick response. Some of you know how it feels to be treated like this. For those who don't, it does leave a bad taste in one's mouth that affects the coffee. I understand that privileged prejudiced White people are customers too, but don't reward them for their unexamined biases. read more

Okay, my fellow tea drinkers - this one's for you! I LOVE tea. It's by far my favorite drink and I drink it in all of its wonderful varieties. Sadly, as us tea drinkers know, tea can often be an afterthought on the coffee shop menu. We all know that seeing the generic "black tea" listed on the menu is often code for "we don't really do tea here." So take it from me, Colectivo has got us! Colectivo has a solid selection of teas on their menu. They have a variety of bagged teas like Earl Grey, peppermint, green tea, matcha, etc. You can even purchase boxes of their teas in both bag and loose leaf form! In addition, there is a strong line up of "speciality" tea beverages. My personal favorite is the Masala Chai Latte. Colectivo is one of the VERY few coffee shops that does a spicy chai, as opposed to a sugary/sweet one. Seriously, it is so good! I also enjoy their London Fog (a classic) and the Windy Ci-Tea, which is a combination of Anthology Black and Earl Grey tea with a shot of lavender syrup. So tasty! Yes, Colectivo does coffee. They also do bakery goods and some truly tasty sandwiches (get the Garden Goddess!). But I go for the tea. And you should too! read more

I so needed a pick me up and although I do have numerous coffee shops around me I needed something a little different today. I went out of my way to go to the closest collectivo to me to try the pb & banana cold brew Smoothie its got banana and peanut butter and some cinnamon i think and its delicious . I come to the bay view location the most for different types of coffee drinks that some places don't have as well as bakery and sandwiches and breakfast items. It usually has a lot of people here but you know why its take out at the moment and they do have some outside seating in a cute area. Front door area you order and pay then go around to back door by patio outside seating area for your pick up at the table. Happy caffeine time! read more

It's Colectivo Coffee! What's not to love? I've been here on several occasions and have been happy with my experience each and every time. As with all Colectivo locales, they sling a decent mocha. The baristas are always friendly and their space is ample. There's plenty of private tables in addition to communal table/bar seating downstairs. Plus, they have an upstairs loft with additional tables. In warmer months, I adore their outdoor seating (porch style swing benches with stationary tables? Umm...yes, please!). Plus, there's plenty of bike parking. Ride on down and enjoy some coffee in the sunshine. All in all, it's a solid spot to work, meet up with friends, or enjoy a cup of coffee in relative solitude (if that's your thing). Get to it! read more

Most Fridays throughout the year, or nearly every weekday in the summer, you can probably find me at a table in Bay View's Colectivo. It's a great spot to get some work done, have a delicious, and possibly healthy, lunch with a good ol' cup o' coffee. Bay View's Colectivo is a fun and lively atmosphere with lots of different options for seating. I'm not going to get into all the seating options, so you will have to figure it out yourself. You got this. My top food recommendations would have to be the chipotle chicken sandwich, any breakfast burrito, the edamame sweet potato bowl, and the salad with two egg frittatas. Also awesome...the peanut butter bar. The one strike against this place compared to other coffee shops, is that you have to sign into their wifi every hour. After an hour, it boots you off and you have to sign back in. It's annoying, but a small price to pay for one of their chipotle chicken sandwiches or a southwest breakfast burrito.
