Loup - The awesome, moist, bread to dunk in soup is fantastic!

A soup lover myself, any place that has a soup flight is a win in my book! Always a great variety…read moreof soups that change out. Also have a menu of sandwiches if you want a little more. Service is good with plenty of seating. Sometimes feels like a little more of a fast food/chain restaurant, but at least they have big bright windows to lighten it up.

Date of visit: February 21, 2025…read more Loup is a wonderful little gem that I came across (with a little help from Yelp, of course!) in the Wauwatosa village during one of my monthly lunch excursions with a friend from work and you should definitely check it out. While a tiny place, you're greeted with a wonderful smell as soon as you open the door, embracing your nose like a warm hug. Service was great! Staff was efficient and offered great suggestions, such as when I wanted the grilled cheese but I am not a fan of pepperjack and it was offered to add in some mozzarella instead of the pepperjack and it was not only a thoughtful suggestion, it was an amazing sandwich! I did a combo with the ginger carrot soup and it definitely had the ginger kick but was not too potent for me and I appreciated the suggestion from staff to try this one. Just a couple small quibbles that prevented Loup from getting five stars: - There were no croutons, crackers, or bread served with the soup. That is a must for me and something that can be easily corrected. - The M&M cookie--while quite large--was not great, especially for $4. It's my husband's favorite kind of cookie and he only had about a third of it before passing it on to me. I ended up having it at home with milk (which helped) but it was overall a disappointing and expensive dessert.

I added pepper. Kid claims it was too "watery". Good portion. I also got a small iced caramel macchiato with oat milk. Pretty tasty! WI friend 1: lemon orzo soup. Her favorite. She said it used to be on regular menu now it's on seasonal menu. Said they made slight change to it. WI friend 2 - Ham on pretzel bread. Thumbs up for bread. I guess it's limited time. NY friend: half tuna salad sandwich and a cup of the chicken lemon orzo - she very much enjoyed. Kids menu entertained the kid. It's hard to write your name upside down btw. We are told our friend's dad comes in regularly with his buddies. It's a good place for families and friends to get a good bite! People can do some work as well. Everyone is nice. Good amount of seating.

The place is nicely laid out, plenty of places to sit, big windows with lots of natural light, and clean. The few other tables of people were having quiet conversations. The staff that took my order was super friendly. I could tell that they had some form autism (i'm not a doctor), and I only mention this because I think it's exciting to see business that make accommodations for all individuals on the spectrum. I ordered a hot Chai Latte and a Chocolate Croissant. They were both excellent. The chai was the right amount of concentrate, temperature, and had some nice foam. They warmed up the croissant (I asked for a plate). It was flaky with the right amount of chocolate on top and inside. Everyone there seemed cheerful and pleasant. Would definitely stop in again for the same.

The croissant breakfast sandwich was good but the bacon was cooked to nearly dust on one end for some reason. I snapped it off and ate the rest. I asked for crispy but not great hash browns. They were crispy. Check. But also greasy and worse, cold. Not even hardly warm. When she came to check, she asked how things were and I said "Eh" and was about to let her know but she left. So I had to take them home which I explained when I asked someone else for a box (told her they had been served cold but she said nothing). As a note, reheated they were very greasy and not good. The Leanne's special with waffle and eggs and bacon was good. That bacon was cooked right. We also ordered the kids' chicken tenders with fries which were good (but we were overcharged for them which required us to point that out after the check came to get it fixed). Overall, would try here again for breakfast but disappointing as I've been coming here since 2012 when they first opened and had very limited hours and prior to the multiple remodels and expansion next door.

Food: They have a large selection of breakfast pastries, including scones, cinnamon rolls, hand pies, and more. There are also some savory items, such as a rosemary biscuit. It was a tough choice, but when in doubt, I go for a scone, and they had a Maple Cinnamon one. I had it warmed up a bit, and it was delicious. These scones are not muffins in disguise, which means the texture is a bit drier and more crumbly--perfect alongside a hot beverage. For my drink, I ordered a London Fog Tea Latte. I was hoping to have it served in an actual ceramic mug, but those are only offered to customers who order drip coffee. That said, they made a very good London Fog, with a little extra lavender and plenty of foam. For my taste, it could have been a bit hotter. Service: Everyone who helped us was kind and helpful and gave us plenty of time to choose the perfect pastries. When ordering the London Fog, they explained how they make theirs and how they would add the extra lavender, which I appreciated. As mentioned above, they do not provide mugs for specialty drinks, using mugs instead to keep track of customers who have paid for bottomless drip coffee. I could bring my own mug from home, but I am not a fan of carrying around coffee shop essentials. Atmosphere: The building is nicely designed on the outside and sits on a corner with plenty of large windows that bring in natural light. It faces north, so you avoid the glaring morning sun. Upon entering, there is a short walk to the counter, where you can view all of the bakery and pastry items. A menu board above clearly displays the breakfast and lunch offerings, making it easy for first time visitors. There are numerous tables that accommodate small groups, and a fireplace with a couple of upholstered chairs offers a cozy seating option. Even after filling up with customers, the noise level was very good, and easy to have casual conversations. A nice visit and a place I would enjoy coming back to.
