I am not a coffee drinker, but I like that this Starbucks is open from 6 AM to the evening and has indoor seating, so I can eat breakfast here before starting the rest of my day. During my recent visit, two employees promptly and courteously served me. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews of this location. It's a Starbucks. Drinks are good, food is good. This location even gets the food warmed all the way through, which is nice. This location is sandwiched in between Pitt and CMU's campuses, so it gets pretty busy. As you would expect, it's the worst in the morning and around lunch time when students and professors are looking to get a quick bite/caffeine fix. They also get a rush between 2 and 3 when Central Catholic and Oakland Catholic let out. But that's all to be expected. However, the staff is friendly. I have only ever been nice to them, so maybe they're mean if you're mean to them. I couldn't say. But they always have a nice word for you. Orders are done promptly within a minute or so of the time estimated on the app. Cool. All I can say is the poor person working the Frappuccino machine is always slammed. I was in the area and decided I needed a cafeine fix. I think it was a mistake coming to this location. As it is near the colleges it was super busy. The baristas where very fast and friendly and worked thru all the customers. However as it was so busy it did take a while. I got a venti latte. It was made perfectly and i was pretty happy about that. If you have to go to this location I suggest you do it only at an off-peak time. Parking is also a chore at this location so be prepared to circle the block. As there are so many other Starbucks I would suggest going to another unless you have to be in the area or the store is empty which is unlikely. read more

I stopped by for my usual I thought try it here since has not here been. The Barista was rude. Had ask my order 3 times. She put in for mocha I ask for Cafe Latte with soy milk and some hazel drizzle. I had correct her. She can't hear me with mask on. Which I get it so I repeat. I had repeated twice. Your typical Starbucks as most have mentioned. This one is closer to the Carnegie Mellon Campus so you'll most likely see more CMU students than Pitts students. There are two other Starbucks locations on Pitt's campus not including the hospital Starbucks. There's a nice large work table in the middle of the space (which is rather small) with outlets in the middle. Perfect table for group work. I recently went here with a friend while both schools (CMU and Pitt) are on break so there was lots of open tables. However, for some reason my friend's Starbucks refresher took about 10min. He already had eaten half of his breakfast sandwich and I had finished my egg bites and got my latte long before that. The staff is friendly and outgoing. The space looked to be clean. I mostly enjoy this location but saw something today that made me feel a little upset. At the counter was someone who was clearly blind and was taking longer to check out and leave the counter. The girl behind the register made a clearly exacerbated face and the girl next to the man started to laugh. Was the extra minute that man stood there really that much of a stressor? Was giving that man the dignity to order and wrap up without the added, and clearly, visible faces too much to ask for? Even if he couldn't see what you did, I could, and that was unacceptable. I order from this Starbucks literally every day. Here's a tip, mobile order or you'll never get your coffee. Every CMU/Pitt/catholic high school student is chilling in there drinking coffee all day long. They always get my order right but I don't think the lobby/seating area is the most orderly I've ever seen. read more

Pretty standard Starbucks with the usual drinks and drink quality. As it is right next to Carnegie Mellon and near Pitt campus they are good at getting the drinks out fast but it is always packed! Be prepared to wait for your drink and not have a place to sit. While they managed to shove as many seats as possible in this locations - tables and a long bar at the front- it still gets packed with students at all hours and get get pretty loud too. read more

I'm not sure how to rate a Starbucks. They all seem similar & you don't run into too many grouchy baristas. I head here for a White Chocolate Mocha Expresso & that's about it. I actually agree with the person who mentioned starbucks coffee seems burnt & bitter. The expressos are delish though. For a tiny corner shop, you can fit a good amount of people here. There are a few long tables in the middle & multiple 2-seater tables along the walls. It was still pretty packed on Saturday night. Grinds my gears though when someone is working away on their laptop with Chinese takeout next to them & didn't spend one penny on starbucks to take over an entire table. This location is perfectly fine for a Starbucks. This place is hopping during weekday work and school hours, but the staff are super efficient and friendly and up to the challenge of completing your order in a timely manner. Regardless of what shift you catch the crew on, your favorite specialty drink will be made consistently each time. On the rare occasions that my drinks have come up not-so-consistent, I've been given a replacement with no questions asked by the professional and personable morning manager. The shop has seating for about 20 and is about the same size as your average in-the-city Starbucks. The bakery case is stocked with the usual suspects that you find at even the larger Starbucks--sweet breakfast breads, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, wraps, scones, muffins, and cookies. If you are looking to purchase a Starbucks gift, they keep about half of the stock of mugs and other coffee accouterments as the larger of their shops. read more

This is the worst Starbucks I've ever been to. To begin with they always put too much ice and today they took my order wrong, which I didn't realize until I received my drink. Then when I went back to ask to have it changed the barista was very rude and did not offer to change it and claimed that it was what I ordered even though I specified that I ordered something else. Starbuck's at the corner of Craig and Forbes is a prime University location making it a nice place to meet during off peak hours. However, because of its close proximity to uni's, high schools, museums, it is very busy in mornings, lunch and after high schools let out. This makes for longer lines and waits and I'd just rather go elsewhere. A plus is that it has wireless and you can pick up CMU's wireless. Staff is friendly. I agree with a prior reviewer that Kiva Han is missed. This area cries for a coffee shop that is more welcoming and less cookie cutter chain coffee. read more

Warning: bitter review to follow. I have nothing nice to say about this Starbucks in Oakland. Notice: I DO NOT hate Starbucks stores in general. In fact, I actually think their coffee is great- better than a lot of local coffees, in fact. However, this Starbucks in particular can bite the dust for all I care. From speaking with a couple small business owners from around the neighborhood, this place single handedly took out my FAVORITE coffee shop in the city right across the street, Kiva Han (now replaced by a bagel place). Furthermore, this particular store in my subjective opinion has zero character, built very open without a bunch of sitting room and littered with impersonal staff. I understand that they have to crank orders out due to the high-turnover of customers during peak hours, but I have no desire to visit there again for the reasons listed above. Not my favorite coffee chain by any means. Is it just me or do all Starbuck coffees taste burnt and bitter? No matter how trendy, cool and upscale their establishments are I can't get around the yicky tasting bitterness of Staryucks regular coffees. Talk about over roasting a bean...Maybe something has changed with their regular coffee but I have not drank it in about a year. And I am not one for soy caramel latte foofy stuff but I am sure with all the sugar in those types of drinks they are delicious but go to a cash machine first ($$).
