I was enjoying a very relaxing camping outing with friends in El Capitan. Unbeknownst to us, there's no cell service. Good thing, because it helps you disconnect with technology and reconnect with one another. However come Sunday, my work responds weighed on me, and I needed to forgo the morning hike for catching up at Starbuck's. I was their second customer at 6:15 a.m., and stayed until 10 a.m. I was greeted with an unkempt patio, but clean, bright inside. I was welcomed with bright attitudes, which caused me to add my own cheer. I was able to have a little convo with the barrista re desiring a large, strong, seet coffee. She recommended and fixed me one that was perfect! Lo and behold, an hour later, I needed another. Did you know that if you're patronizing and hanging in their lobby, subsequent regular tea/coffee is just 50 cent? I'm coming back, just for this. I honestly have nothing good to say about this location. During my stay in Santa Barbara, I came here twice. Both times, the staff were extremely rude. I had ordered a simple baked good and there was no other customer in the store. There were five employees. They left my order sitting there for 20 minutes without calling my name. I had to go up and ask the girl and all she did was look me up and down and toss me the bag... I get these are college students but since when did this become normalized? So why am I giving it 5 stars still? While I was waiting I saw one of my neighbors come over with her new puppy in her basket, a cocker spaniel dressed up as a bumblebee. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. We chatted and she let me hold her dog and give it plenty of pets, wagging its stubby little bumblebee tail. I kind of forgot about my drink until she left, and lucky for me it was just arriving as soon as I finished. There was trash all over the place and looked disgusting. It looked like there was a party there the night before and nobody cleaned up. I love this Starbucks. It's very clean and close to UCSB (especially my office). They have a new mobile order window that makes it easy to pick up your order since the shop can get pretty crowded. Sometimes, I'll go into the shop to order if I don't k is what I want. I recently saw the dragon drink featured on the menu, so I tried and now I'm hooked!! I'm glad that I can now order it on the Starbucks app and have it waiting for me. This Starbucks team is so helpful too. They always make my drink right and they're always very nice. It's not too far from campus, but it's quite a walk if you're way east. There's not much parking, but not many cars usually stop for Starbucks. Bike racks are sufficient. The inside is pretty small and crowded, I've never seen an empty table. The service is pretty good, most of the workers are UCSB students. The wait is pretty average compared to other Starbucks. I started using mobile orders more often, so the interaction is now limited. However, my orders are usually done pretty quickly. read more

I upped my rating from three stars to four because I had the most stellar service today! I went in knowing I wanted a hot coffee but unsure of which syrup I wanted in it. I had never tried the cinnamon dolce, so I asked the barista if I could just have a lick of it alone. She insisted on making me a full on coffee with it and reassured me that she'd remake my drink if I didn't like it. After trying the coffee and confirming that the cinnamon dolce was too overwhelming (just as she had warned me!), I decided to stick with my go-to sugar-free vanilla syrup. It is what it is: an average Starbucks recently renovated to look more like a spacious cafe, where it's still difficult to find a table and perhaps even more difficult to get the right mobile order. I've had a few problems with baristas here. I'll ask for light ice and notice afterward that they wrote the initials for more ice on the cup (um, said no one ever.) A barista's called out my name before for a drink that looked like mine, just for me to walk away from the store and find out that this totally wasn't my drink, the name totally isn't mine, and that nothing on the mobile order shelf even resembled my iced caramel latte. Due to what appears to be a high turnover of staff coupled with high foot traffic, some baristas don't catch onto initials quickly or write sloppily, leading to drink mix-ups like a pumpkin spice hot chocolate instead of a peppermint hot chocolate. The mobile order situation here is merciful to those of us who don't like to stand in line, and want to avoid awkward interactions. While the bike parking situation isn't bad at all, good luck ever finding parking around here if you want to grab coffee from IV and go somewhere else. However, it's not a bad place to go for mediocre coffee, especially if you'd rather your order be done fast than done well. read more

I get coffee here almost every mornings. I can say that every morning I get a different experience. The place is very small so it can get very crowded in the morning or at "coffee" peak hours. What I can definitely point out is that 9/10 times, they won't consider the customizations of your order you made (if mobile order), if it's anything else than the milk type. I've had order with no whip cream at all on my iced mochas when I requested extra, lots of ice if I ask for light etc... Overall I can point out that often they get the order out fast though. For me, Starbucks has held neither an intensely positive nor negative place in my heart. I usually think about Starbucks in the same vein as I think about sweatshirts. They're useful, and sometimes we take them for granted, but if a fire burned down my house, the fact that my sweatshirt is now a pile of ash would be the last thing in my mind. I know, that rejection of a brand so omnipresent in modern society makes me a pretty unique and rare person to find nowadays, right! I went to the Isla Vista Starbucks a couple days ago, simply because I was tired and in need of a Double Chocolate Chip frappuchino to inject my caffeine in my system and wake me up! It was a pleasant shopping experience, but in retrospect, I probably should not gone out of my way to choose the closest Starbucks to the University when there are probably 15 closer to my house in Santa Barbara. The workers at this Starbucks are kind and productive workers, even in peak business hours. I got exhausted watching them - the line extended halfway out the door! Despite this, I was able to wait in line to order, order, wait in line to receive my drink, and receive my drink in less than 10 minutes. That deserves what Carol calls a "high five!" I really like this Starbucks. Located in a somewhat grimy college town, this store is a breath of fresh air as the staff really knows how to keep the store clean and welcoming. Nikolett, the general manager, is always really cheery and down to earth- she never forgets to ask how my day is going, and she always follows up on my recent life events- I really appreciate that. It's hard to work during these COVID times, especially in the food industry, so I greatly appreciate the effort this crew displays in their customer service and beverage crafting. So, just to get out there: I have worked at a Starbucks and know the 'rules.' And every other Starbucks I have been to the baristas very accommodating to my orders and questions. And I know I am in Isla Vista, so that care-free attitude must have some influence. I have been in here multiple times and wish there was another Starbucks within a reasonable walking/biking distance. The baristas here are kinda rude and sometimes act like the world owes them. I order two shots of espresso in my grande to-go iced cup with flavoring/syrup and soy. This is my way of getting a cheap latte. But it's not even a full iced latte because I don't want the full amount of soy. Two times I have been there they say "we're not allowed to do that." You're not allowed to make a drink? I even explained that it's not a full iced latte but both times they still charged me for a full latte. It's just two shots of espresso with some soy and ice because I don't like hot drinks. To add to my frustration, when I checked my receipt and noticed the 'mistake,' I took it in about 5 days later and they said they couldn't do anything about it because every day the manager "closes the register." As a previous Starbucks barista, when a mistake was made, we always fixed it, even if it was days later. We would re-make the drink or give them a coupon for a free drink. Another thing I have never heard of is not allowing someone to not have ice. I have served and ordered 'no ice' drinks I ordered a drink for a friend and they said they could only do half the ice. This establishment really puzzles me. On one occasion (I understand that they were closing, but the hours listed were not the same), when I ordered my drink and noticed that he didn't give me my cup discount he said in a very hidden tone "I gave you plenty of discounts." I made a confused face and just scanned my phone. I am almost out of money on my Starbucks card, and when I run out, I don't plan on returning there unless I'm desperate. However, how do y'all manage to make a drink wrong 50% of the time...especially when you're given the screen shot of the actual recipe. Vt Black iced tea, 6 pumps raspberry, 6 pumps toffee nut, breve --- that's it. I used to think it was my fault but I show the same recipe to every Starbucks I've been to and this is the only Starbucks that messes it up. But they do keep the place organized and clean. Very convenient location as well. And I also like that they prepare drinks very quickly. I would order on my phone and by the time I get there it's already made in less than 8 minutes. Just about the only Starbucks out there that hardly ever messes up my custom coffee order. I've been here countless times. Don't let college student baristas fool you. I've consumed a majority of the Starbucks menu and the employees prep the drinks well, if not better, than some of the other locations I've been to. My only problems with this place are 1) the limited amount of table space and outlets (especially for a college town location) and 2) the fact that it closes super f*cking early in the summer and on weekends. I'm satisfied with this Starbucks and have seen SOOOO much worse at the ones near the USC campus that this one makes me relatively happy. I've been here on several occasions to get a caffeine fix, usually before a long drive and though I do come at odd times at like 9 in the morning or 3 in the afternoon, the line usually isn't too bad the baristas are friendly, and I get my order. I mean I asked for a chai tea latte and a way to get less sugar and the barista suggested getting skim milk which doesn't make any sense but whatever at least he's giving suggestions even if they are totally nonsensical.
