As a longtime Peet's coffee aficionado, I had to come in while local and with the option to! The store is tucked away in a little strip mall on State St. but has a decent little parking lot in back. The store was clean and well stocked. I ordered my drink and bought a coffee mug... because of course! The manager was amazing and very kind. Despite a little confusion on who's latte mine belonged to, she made sure I was taken care of and apologized for the mix up. Things happen and although it was a tad bit longer of a wait due to a small mix up, my coffee arrived hot and tasting like heaven. Definitely recommend this location; the staff are very kind and helpful and the coffee is fantastic!!! read more

While some people might be inclined to turn away from Peets since there are so many other local coffee shops to visit, this location has the same warm, welcoming vibe that coffee goers look for, if not MORE than most SB shops. Staff has been sweet every time I've gone in, but there is a shorter woman with glasses and dirty blonde hair that is just exceptionally nice. She's given me complimentary pastries when I've gone in just before closing and isn't at all bothered that I'm visiting 10-20 minutes prior to shut down time (unlike other places, again). I truly want to come back just to interact with her because she's so lovely and caring. Coffee is also always consistently good and unlike 99% of other places, they don't charge for milk alternatives! My go to anywhere is an iced vanilla latte, but here I especially love the vanilla latte with almond milk. It's creamy and a perfect blend of sweetness and coffee! read more

The only coffee shop in town for me! In the 13+ years I've been coming to this location I've only had one bad experience. The person in charge is always upbeat, friendly, and OH so helpful!! They're fast and efficient and SERIOUSLY have the TASTIEST pastries!! Today I changed it up and had the Havana Cappuccino and it was perfect! Just the right amount of sweet to still enjoy the rich coffee flavor! I added a Crispy Ham and Swiss sammie which the manager recommended and it was DELICIOUS!! I highly recommend both!! I think for a small coffee shop they have adequate seating and even a few tables on the sidewalk out front. They have a good sized gender neutral bathroom which was great when I was on a knee walker-enough room to maneuver-and room for a stroller for the mom behind me with her kiddo in tow. I love Peet's coffee but hands down this was the worst customer service we've received at a cafe. The lady who took our order was rude because she constantly rushed us to finish/pay and didn't even offer to warm up any of our food. When I asked what drip coffee was available she gave the most nonsensical answer and was even looking away which made it hard for us to hear her. They also didn't announce that our craft drink was ready but did this with literally everyone else including mobile orders and when I asked for a pastry to be warmed, the same woman slammed it on the counter once it was ready and it was so awkward. This review is specifically for Marilyn (I think is her name. She has long brown hair and is in her early 20s). I was having issues with the app and connectivity and wanted to redeem some points and a coupon I had. Marilyn tried to help me but I had no reception, so she helped me out with redemption on my drink. The manager (I think) with glasses overheard me talking about it to my friend and asked me what had happened, then went over and spoke to Marilyn about it like she shouldn't have done that. What's so sad is that Marilyn did a great job, helped me out and I would have definitely stopped by this Peets when I pass through SB again. But the manager (or lead, whoever she was) listening in to my conversation and then talking to Marilyn about the situation made me feel what she did was wrong, when she was trying to make it right. I am a loyal Peetnik for decades starting in the 60's in Berkeley. I have rarely written about the deportment of an employee. The employee about whom I write is John Conyer. He needs to be recognized for his efficiency, politeness, and congeniality as a barista at the Santa Barbara store. He always greets me with a cheerful smile and "Hi!" He always executes my order perfectly and does it with the utmost courtesy. Customer service is important, rare and short supply these days, but John has got it right. Whoever hired him knew he was a man of character. He is a real asset to your establishment. read more

My friends and I stop at this Peet's on the way to northern California, coming from San Diego. This trip up we arrived toward closing, about 15 minutes or so. The barista and service people were rude and didn't even fill an order until my husband reminded them that we had paid for it already. On our way home, the staff was indifferent, lackadaisical, and the bathroom was, according to them, out of order. They directed me to another business but it was the attitude that was bad. Unfortunately, my favorite coffee shop has taken a real nosedive, due to new "test" store policies, and extremely poor customer service by a certain individual who does not belong in customer service. This Peet's is now no longer selling fresh beans. Their past policy of using pillow paks, and throwing out the leftovers after 3 and 1/2 days is not happening. Now, they only sell whole pounds out of sealed bags that can be months old, because they also stopped tossing sealed bags that were more than 3 weeks old, and selling them instead! I have actually bought coffee - for the SAME price - that was 7 and 1/2 weeks old, and was wondering what had happened to it. However, when I asked for an exchange for drinkable coffee beans, I was gaslit into thinking I was somehow the problem, instead of receiving a proper explanation, and exchange. Since this is the only Peet's for miles around, the employees, and the corporation need to do much better. As a decade's long, loyal Peetnik, I deserve the same quality I am used to, and so do all other customers. read more

While recently taking a trip out of town, I happen to read online about this restaurant offers a completely plant based bagel sandwich and I just had to go try it out. Before entering the restaurant, I noticed signage on the front door regarding mask wearing. Upon entering the restaurant, I was warmly greeted by a restaurant employee. Despite a long line, we were soon able to place our order. The restaurant employee apologized for the long wait and quickly took our order. I was a bit bummed that I was unable to scan my Peet's app to get app rewards but was happy at how quickly our food was ready. I did appreciate that vegan food items are clearly labeled at the restaurant and on the Peet's app. The everything plant based bagel sandwich contained vegan sausage, vegan egg, and vegan cheese on an bagel and was delicious. The iced lemon poppyseed scone was sweet but not overly sweet. I would love to see more hot plant based sandwiches on their menu but love that this option is currently available for vegans, vegetarians, and the veg-curious. Although I'm saddened that there not more Peet's location where I live, I will definitely plan to pay them a visit the next time I'm in a city that has a Peet's location. read more

Starbucks who? I'm not sure exactly what it is about Peet's Coffee but I love it. In my opinion it's far superior to Starbucks coffee and taste so much better. So since we don't have a Peet's in my area every time I get a chance to visit one when I'm traveling I make stop by and pick up a white chocolate mocha which is my drink of choice. Not the easiest location to reach if you are not familiar with the layout of the plaza this Peet's Coffee location is at. This was one of the first Peet's Coffees I had the pleasure of trying when I really started drinking coffee more (thanks to my college studies and nocturnal habits). I am a little plain with my orders and tend to always get the same few things. Iced Caramel Macchiato and the Crispy Ham & Swiss sandwich. As per usual, I am completely happy with my order and this location is just as perfect as it has always been. This caffeine store is OK. Place was pretty busy on a spring break weekend, but the baristas handled it all well. They were very patient with our indecisive little group, I had never been to a Peet's before. Cousin ordered a vanilla cafe au lait, daughter had an iced vanilla latte, and I wanted to try the Golden Cold Brew Fog Latte- when we asked what that was about, the barista said it was a honey sweetened coffee with ginger and tumeric. Son wanted a blueberry yogurt and no drink - go figure, but what the hey, it's good for him...We found a table to sit the four of us, and waited for them to yell out our names when our drinks were up at the counter. I was the last one to get my drink after about 5-10 minutes?? I walked back to the counter and they acknowledged me fairly quickly, asked what I had ordered, and said they did have it up. He looked over at the pick-up counter and said, someone must have walked away with it! Ugh, coffee thieves in SB? Well ok then. Here's where a name written on the cup, or a sticker system would've prevented or deterred people from walking away with your order...Barista said he'd make another one in a jiffy. Ok, good, thank you. A jiffy equaled about 2-3 minutes, which = good, too. So I sit down finally and taste this honey-ginger-tumeric-iced-latte. Unfortunately, it did not even come close to tasting like its name. It just tasted like a barely vanilla latte. Wheres the ginger? Tumeric? I don't know, but it's not in this cup in my hand. I let my cousin have a sip, and she said the same. She then had me taste hers, and hers had the more pronounced vanilla flavor. I think they must have given me the wrong drink, but I wasn't about to go up to the counter a third time. At the very least, it was a nice, refreshing caffeinated beverage. read more

We ordered another one and they remade it with less sugar, but it was still too sweet. My mom ordered an iced vanilla latte, but they gave her a hot one instead. The guy who made our drink was very nice (he seemed rather timid), but the woman running the cash register was absolutely rude; her manner of speaking was clipped and toned in such a way that it was clear she didn't like us and wanted us to leave. She even corrected my pronunciation on a word, which is uncalled for when there are so many regional accents in this country to begin with. I LOVE PEET'S! One of my first life memories is of Peet's in Berkeley, so it is inevitable that I am a " Peetnik". It really is the best, most masterfully roasted coffee. Yes, they have tea too, excellent espresso, and unique signature beverages like "cold brew black tie" and a "Havana Cappuccino". But it is always the coffee for me....I can always can depend on a cup of dark, rich, hot, strong, divine coffee here. Treats are scrumptious, refined, and unique: Kouign Amann tarts, big cookies, pastries, brownies, sweet breads, and savory quiches and cheesy sandwiches. Cool, very nice, and engaging baristas. In SB, I really miss the downtown Peet's. But I will go out of my way to come to this location (on Upper State, by 5 Points shopping center). It is classic Peet's: the coffee bean scent, the dark wood counter, and a distinct elegance. Many small tables that are perfect for meetings and intimate coffee chats. Nice coffee bar for your sips. Yes, there are plug-ins and wifi, so it is great for studying. Bathroom is always clean, very pleasant and consistent with atmosphere of old world charm ( framed ethnic rugs..) .
