One of the best Starbucks locations I've visited. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the team works together to make customers feel comfortable. The security officer, DJ, really stands out. He greets customers with a warm smile, often holds the door, and makes everyone feel safe and welcome the moment they arrive. His professionalism and positive attitude truly set the tone for the whole experience. A couple of years ago it was honestly difficult to visit this area because of homelessness and drug activity, but during my recent visits it has been a night-and-day difference. The security presence has clearly helped improve the environment and make it much more comfortable for customers. Neutral: This is probably the busiest Starbucks in the city. Thumbs Down: Unfortunately, it can take over an hour to receive a drink order. Even for the busiest location in the city, that is unacceptable. Something in the operation is clearly broken. Thumbs Down: I have pre-ordered more than an hour in advance, only to arrive and find my drink still not ready. Even after waiting an additional 30 minutes, it was not prepared. This has happened consistently. Thumbs Up: Starbucks Corporate will issue a refund after an additional 20 minutes of delay. Healthcare workers LOVE coffee! This Starbucks is located right in the middle of the medical center, just off the Metro rail line (Dryden/TMC) making it a convenient stop for healthcare professionals, patients, and visitors alike. I'm not a big Starbucks girl but they do make it SO convenient to place a customized order through the app ahead of time for easy pick up. It's worth mentioning that this location is BUSY, especially in the morning and in the afternoon, so be sure to check the name on the cup if you are coming to pick up. I have unfortunately picked up someone else's drink by accident only to realize after the fact. I had a birthday reward and opted to customize my order. The barista making my order made a few rude and loud comments about the inconvenience which were extremely audible in the small space. She also hastily placed my drink down on the counter in a manner of which the drink fell over. She was clearly upset about my order and made it known to the store. It made me feel uncomfortable because it was obviously my drink. She also complained about other customers' orders. I've been coming to this Starbucks for the last 3.5 years as a student in the med center. Sometimes it's extremely busy a bit of a wait for mobile orders but that's expected with so many businesses around. Everyone at this location is always so friendly and upbeat! I've never had a bad experience here - even when I make a mistake ordering via the app, it's been corrected for me. One person in particular who is always always super friendly is Ms. Helen. Whenever I'm in the Texas Medical Center, I like to relax @ this Starbucks. I use the Metro-lift redline for transportation to the TMC & discovered this particular Starbucks located across from Methodist Hospital b/c it's right off the rail line. The staff is courteous, friendly, & professional. They're also pretty efficient too, b/c as you might've guessed due to its location, it can get pretty busy. Also a special shoutout to the security guards who work this location! They are some of the most accommodating, nicest, & professional people you will meet. Greeting & opening the doors for customers & giving directions to various locations to those who ask. The interior is dark & a little cramp, but the appeal of this location for me, outside of the service, is the cafe style outdoor seating. I luv sitting outside on a cool pleasant day & enjoying my coffee while watching the hustle & bustle of the TMC. It's literally the proverbial "city within a city." The layout of this Starbucks is like any other Starbucks if you can make it inside without getting run over by the rail. Also, make sure that you watch out for all the pigeons flying, and also walking, in the entry way. There is plenty of pigeon dropping so if that's not an immediate turn off prior to entry, then you are brave like all of us carbon-footprint-reducers who take the light rail. After you have entered though, this starbucks (during the hours of 7:00am-5:00pm, M-F) is extremely efficient. This is a recent update though. I have only heard horror stories from other people who have been working in the area longer than me, so I am not sure what their experience is based on, but since this is Yelp, my experiences are my own. My drinks always come out hot, and the food is served pretty quickly too. Unfortunately, the stench of the bird poop outside is such a buzz kill that I try to avoid this Starbucks and go to the one at the commons. If you can brave the pigeon poop, then it's worth the trek! This is the best starbucks out there. The ladies that work there are always able to make me laugh by saying things like, "So how can we caffeinate you today?" Brilliant. Aside from making delicious drinks, the thing that sets them apart from the surrounding starbucks locations (and you know there are at least 5 within a one mile radius in the med center), is that they NEVER complain when you have a coupon! What I mean is, back in the day, when you could buy a bag of starbucks beans, there was a little ditty on the side of the bag that said you could turn in the bag for a free cup of coffee up to one month after the 'best by' date. Well, this particular starbucks location accepted those bags from me even six months after the 'best by' date had gone by. They also don't hesitate to give you whatever you ask for when you present those little cards with the stickers you saved from buying the holiday special drinks. They also honor the savings codes I receive in their emails. And, they don't mind giving you 10 cents off if you bring your own cup - which I do! So, all in all, this starbucks is here to serve the customer and isn't overly concerned about profits. I can't say the same about the starbucks on kirby and robinhood.... grrrr.... they frustrate me. And why should a starbucks employee care if I'm trying to save 10 cents? That doesn't affect their hourly wage! read more

This Starbucks NEVER seems to have a lull; I guess that is the "perks" of being in the med center. The line can be all the way to the door, but thankfully they are always fully staffed and orders come popping out very quickly. The physician I work for likes to buy drinks for the office on a weekly basis so we ALWAYS have a 12-15 drink list....no fret, no problems ever and the orders just keep coming out. They are very well organized and always pleasant regardless of how crazy it seems to get in there. This is the better Starbucks for our office as the one in our building is a kiosk and owned by the hotel. Whenever we need a bite to eat albeit a sandwich or protein boxes, this is the place to come to. The only tiny problem you may encounter from time to time is the occasional bum, but it is not a persistent issue either. There is plenty of seating and great lighting in here as well; and as every good Starbucks does, it also provides wi-fi. read more

This Starbucks has somehow found a way to use their mobile order process and turn it into a hot mess. It's incredible how they turned an already set in place contact-free delivery system into a nightmare instead of capitalizing on it during COVID 19. Now, you order your drink/food and it sits behind a glass cover. The softest spoken lady in the 77030 zipcode will then try to yell out "2 at a time!" for people waiting outside. There is no semblance of a line. There are crosses on the floor marking distance but there are so many people it is entirely useless. So you stand there, risking yourself for a venti hot mocha even though you can see it already prepared behind the glass. It's insane. read more

I frequent this Starbucks because I go to school at TWU, which is just down the street. I usually need a kick of caffeine, black tea lemonade, or pastry after a long day at school. The line is usually to the door during lunch hours or happy hour half price frap days or other specials because of the location. Although there are several Starbucks in the Texas Medical Center, this location is an actual store. Sometimes the little cafes that sell Starbucks don't honor the Starbucks specials that are going on, or you can't earn stars through your Starbucks gift card app. Since this location is so busy, I do not recommend trying to study here. I see people on their laptops or with their books and headphones, but it's just too loud. People are always coming and going, which can be distracting. read more

The drinks are decent (although extremely sweet, I always request fewer pumps than the standard recipe requires). My biggest complaint is that I once ordered a peppermint mocha in the winter, and it came out tasting like toothpaste. I couldn't finish it because the minty-ness was way too strong. It's a popular location for many med center workers because of its convenient location. If you do not work in this area, parking here will be pretty much non-existent. The coffees, etc. are up to Starbucks' standards and I've never been disappointed. I frequent this place daily and I can say they are consistent. For some reason, I rarely if ever can do check ins here. I suppose it's signal problems. I never have any problems with any other areas.
