The first issue was the drive-thru line. There was construction happening in the parking lot, and employees were directing traffic. The car directly in front of me was allowed to enter the drive-thru, but I was instructed to drive all the way around the parking lot and follow the cones. What made it frustrating was that I later watched other vehicles being directed straight into the line. The process seemed inconsistent and unnecessarily confusing. Once I finally got into line, there were several employees standing near the entrance talking while customers waited. It took a while before anyone approached my vehicle to take my order. When an employee did come over, I asked about one of the promotional drinks. He wasn't familiar with what was in it and had to leave and ask someone else. While I understand employees are still learning, I expected a little more familiarity with the menu and promotion. The biggest issue was at the payment window. The music was so loud that I could barely hear the employee speaking. I had to repeatedly ask her to repeat herself and eventually found myself raising my voice just to communicate. It made the interaction frustrating and unnecessary. Another disappointment was the pricing. One of the reasons I originally chose 7 Brew over other coffee chains was the value. When I first started going about eight months ago, my large drink with cold foam was around $7 and change. Now that same drink is over $9. I understand prices increase, but when you're paying more, you also expect consistency. The cold foam in my drink was minimal, especially considering it is an additional charge. I've visited this location three separate times and have had similar experiences each time. I kept giving it another chance because it's only about seven minutes from my house, but this visit was the final straw. At this point, I'd rather drive the extra 20+ minutes to the Huntley or Lake Zurich locations than return to the Algonquin location. Between the inconsistent traffic direction, employees standing around while customers waited in the lot, lack of product knowledge, excessively loud music, and disappointing drink execution, this location has lost my business.

My daughter got the Star Gazer and it was super duper good! The staff was super positive and polite, even given the snowy and cold weather. Since it was swag day, we got a free shirt for every large drink. We actually came back a second time! BTW, the prices are comparable to the other places and even a little less depending on item. Spacious and well lit and clean - but then I encounter bored untrained staff who apparently have no clue what they are offering - and worse - seem indifferent to their lack of knowledge of their menu offerings - it's not their fault they don't speak Arabic or Farsi - but the ignorance as to what is in the pastry showcase or details of their drink menu is just staggering: I ask whether any of their desserts contain nuts because my friend has a fatal allergy...answer: "not really sure but not to my knowledge" (I'm afraid that just isn't good enough for this doctor). I then ask innocently whether they have any decaffeinated tea - the chap behind the counter says with confidence "Black tea doesn't have any caffeine" I was surprised enough to question my own knowledge- and my companion, who is a medical nutritionist seemed stunned and gave up as well. She said "black tea contains about 50mg per cup - which is around half that of coffee", but he didn't take the bait and stated with that confidence that only pure ignorant bliss can impart : "No, black tea has no caffeine - it's tea...not coffee." (Suggestion to the owners here: you may want to educate your staff and quick) Then I ask patiently for the list of ingredients of the various pretty looking unlabeled and mysterious sweets selection behind the glass cabinet.... Again no understanding of what I'm asking about. "No we aren't told what's inside each and we get our pastries from small suppliers but I think there are no nuts - I don't see any nuts - and they don't tell us what's inside" ... meanwhile I see pistachios scattered all over at least two desserts in the case - and I'm only asking for a rudimentary description of ingredients- and about what's inside each item - surely not too much to ask or expect (am I being difficult here?) To the owners: this customer thought you made all your desserts in-house but your staff happily tell us customers the truth - but either way..... Surely you'd want to know what you are offering your customers ? - I mean, some of the pastries look pretty tasty, but without knowing what's inside.... I give up. Then there is the price : $16.00 for a coffee and a tea. Okay... I tell myself I am trying this place a second time and I've been told good things by friends since here last (cardamom and cinnamon spiced hot drinks! ) So when I am served my tea and coffee at the table, I ask innocently for a napkin, and the waiter (Mr "Caffeine-Free tea") nods towards the other side of the cafe and says "napkins are over there" and walks off.
