It's been a while since my last review and it's only fair that I give these guys another look. Time heals all wounds...well, most wounds for that matter. My last review was a little salty because of some poor customer service but that has changed now. With a new staff comes a different feel about the place. I really like the baristas who now greet everyone with a smile and are quick to throw your order together and get you on your way. This location gets high marks for their superior spot on the 5 corridor. So easy to pop off and then back on during my commute. read more

Got off the freeway to get some coffee while on my way towards San Diego. Waited by the speaker for a couple minutes and NO ANSWER...we figured we'd pull up to the window since the speaker was maybe not working, but nope. There were people walking by inside who clearly saw us waiting at the window, and not one person came by to ask for our order or help us out. They purposely ignored us, and so we decided to leave. I am not giving my money to a place that has no customer service ethics. They should really rehire people who know about customer service. If they were busy (although there were ZERO CARS IN THE DRIVE THRU WHEN WE ARRIVED), they could've at least talked to us and asked for us to please wait. So unprofessional, I'm sure this is not the type of service Starbucks is okay with at all. Will not be returning. You might as well go to 711 where the staff are more helpful than at this location. read more

This has got to be the worst Starbucks I have ever been to. Since they unionized (I am pro union). They ate slow and have been closed more than they are open. Half the time the drive thru is closed . read more

I don't know what's up with this place but took nearly 30 minutes for a mobile pick up via drive thru. Only 4-5 cars in front of us. Inside was not busy as well. The guy at the drive thru looked like he was over it. read more

Probably the slowest Starbucks you can possibly go to . If you decide to do the drive-through and there's a line , be prepared to sit there for a good 15-20 minutes . Very very very slow . read more

This is the one Starbucks location I've been meaning to give credit to, and here it is. This place sits along my usual route to San Diego and Tijuana. I've stopped here countless times, since my military years up to the present. It sits off the 5 freeway, and has a Subway adjacent to it. Parking can be a bit tough, but the place does have drive thru, so it isn't much of a problem. The inside is clean and well stocked. They have two restrooms, and I didn't have much of a wait to use one. The line to order was not long when I came here, which was on a Saturday afternoon. They processed my cold brew quickly, and I paired that with a protein box. The place provided me with good service, much like it has throughout the years. Five stars. read more

This was my 1st time here on the way to San Diego. Great location right off the 5 freeway. There's not a whole lot of parking. There is a drive-thru which is convenient. Staff were friendly but too busy to acknowledge us walking in the door whereas a lot of other Starbucks welcome you out loud no matter how busy. Place was fairly clean. Bathrooms acceptable. Indoor and outside seating available. Charles was a friendly face who was noted cleaning up. I was really liking a board they put up with pens and post-its available to post good thoughts to those who could use (see photo). All in all a fair experience that can definitely be better. read more

Coffee victims flock here. The location right off of the freeway seems to be the main attraction. The vacant corner lot sat for years and then Starbucks moved in. There is nothing special whatsoever about Starbucks. It boasts an awesome freeway view and long lines. The drive through is almost always packed and once you commit there is no turning back. You may be here for 30 minutes waiting for the coffee. You could drive up the street to Target or Wallmart and buy a coffee pot and some beans and have coffee faster than waiting in the line. You are in Funky Leucadia, there are so many uber hip or cool coffee places so go down the street to Pannikin or Ipe, or go up the street to Peet's. Starbucks coffee is mainstream, generic mediocre coffee at best. The people who come here remind me of sheep. When I drive by this location daily I see people that look like zombies pulling in for their pick me ups blind to the fact that the entire road does not lead to Starbucks. The people coming out of the lot have waited for so long to get their fix that they frequently make left hand turns out of the parking lot without even considering that my car may not be pulling in. They drive like maniacs and I have nearly been in 4 separate accidents. I have talked to city staff who agree that this location has created a traffic nightmare. It is too late to stop them from opening so the next best thing to do is avoid this location at all costs. Getting into or out of the parking lot is just plain treacherous, and you can park on the street and risk causing a traffic jam as it blocks the right hand turn lane, you risk having your car hit and then you have to dodge the traffic just to get into the store. Mediocre coffee is not worth the wait, money and risk of losing your life over. Save your money and just say no beans. read more

I arrived at Starbucks (Orpheus Ave) at 4:00 this afternoon. The only option of getting served was to go through the drive-thru. I ordered 2 small lattes. I was told by the male server at the window that they were out of small cups so he had used a large cup instead. When he handed me the cups I could tell by the weight that there was hardly any coffee in them. I should have checked right then but I drove home. Stunned......when I took the lid off and saw the amount of coffee that I got for $4.25. It took exactly FOUR swallows for me and to finish the latte. ($1.05 per sip?) I've always thought that Starbucks was overrated and this afternoon they proved me right! Won't be going back there! read more

I've been to this Starbucks many many times. The staff is ALWAYS wonderful and smiling even behind their masks. Today there was a gentleman (Josh? Your name slipped my mind right when I went to write this) standing by the drive through taking orders. He was absolutely delightful and made me smile. His joy lit up my day and he was very helpful. Driving on the 5 fwy southbound and the saw the starbucks sign. Got off the freeway to get some coffee and saw the long line. Usually long lines means a good thing. Not in this case. This time it was not the case. The person on the menu speaker was rambling as if the person was under the influence of drugs or alcohol probably a meth head. The person Could not complete a sentence when taking our order. Finally after repeating order numerous times and waiting, it was our turn at the window. The person had to retake our order at the window. After another person came to window and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. When asking what was going on and taking so long the person got defensive rather than to apologize for the long wait. She was rambling about her pronouns and very hostile. Two other employees came to the window. Finally a person who could put a single sentence together gave us the managers card and said to call or email. This location clearly does not hire qualified personnel or people of darker complexion. There actions were completely out of line and no regard for customers just there self righteous tantrums with their trigger words and self identity. I don't care who makes my coffee. I just care that my coffee is what I order and a pleasant exchange of please and thank you. Not in your face political self centered identification to ensure I remember someone's pronoun. read more

This is the non friendliest Starbucks I ever been to. No one greeted anyone, no one said we'll be right with you, no hi how are you. Just simply took my order and told me my order will be called down there. There was someone trying to get one of the workers attention and I'm sure they can see them from the corner of their eyes and no one bothered to ask what they wanted until the person literally went up to them. Order a drink and the guy read it back to me perfect. I get up to the drive through and the girl Sydni had this ugly look and was super rude. I usually go to Starbucks locations that everyone is friendly and happy. They show they are happy to be at work. This girl, wouldn't make eye contact and when I asked to get the drink because it looked odd. I asked for a remake as this wasn't what I ordered. They make me a new one that took exactly 9 minutes. She slams the glass door and give me the stare down. At this point I want my money back but they have the window closed. So she comes back gives me the drink, as I am driving off she tells me to have a blessed day and I don't even respond. I taste the drink and it has nothing to do with a brown sugar shaken Expresso. I spend thousands of dollars on Starbucks and this is by far the worst location. read more

Best Starbucks experience ever! I went inside as the lineup was really long and I was served immediately. But I appreciated so much was the acknowledgment when I came through the door they used my name over half a dozen times in conversation and when my coffee was being made the barista started a full conversation with me. This place has such a bad vibe. Floors are filthy as well as the restrooms. There is no furniture which makes it more unwelcoming. The staff is still wearing masks ( seriously) . This place is gross. We've always liked this particular Starbucks. Their only downside is the tiny entry and exit way from the parking lot. This Starbucks is one of the test sites for their "flavor essences". About a year ago, Starbucks changed their Toffee Nut syrup to something weird. It's turned me off of Starbucks---and I used to love my daily Toffee Nut Espresso drink. "Alex", their barista, showed me all about their flavor essences today. Much much much more delicious than their old replacement syrup. We (the customer) gets to choose exactly how sweet we want it. Great attitude here by all of their staff. Catarina and Alex are my two shining stars from today. Both are gracious, bright, kind and warm. read more

I love how fast the coffees are made here! By the time we finished ordering, our pastries and coffees were already done. They had a whole bunch of pastries to offer! The service at the register was okay.. guy didn't look happy to be there. The baristas at the end though, were very friendly. Carter made my latte extra delicious. Someone stole all of their furniture and they're not gonna replace any of it. I'm sitting on the curb outside with my laptop on my lap as there's nowhere to sit and work with legs (apart from my own). My favorite place for the good old caffeine fix. 3 things that make this location the bees knees: 1.) This is a quieter Starbucks. The inside traffic is low key since it is a drive through location. There are plenty of options for seating, and there is rarely anybody in here! Perfect for getting my study on. 2.) The baristas are hilarious! Not once have I walked out not laughing (double negative, I know, but completely necessary) or at least a smile on my face. And all of the partners are incredibly nice! (even more so then the avg. Starbucks.) 3.) They make a damn good dark roast! I'll be the first to admit, I'm drinking the kook-aid and I'm on the Starbucks bandwagon, but it's a pretty nice place to be ;) read more

The drive through is always wrapped around the building and I am always amazed at how fast it goes! Once, I went inside and ordered a "Twix Frappuccino." It was super cool because an employee walked in and gained the attention of all of the employees. It was like a family in there! The employee that just walked in was excited to rattle off the recipe for the Twix Frappuccino! Coffee lovers want to start their day with a great cup and positive interaction. We are creatures of habit so consistency makes us happy. Unfortunately this Starbucks drive-thru consistently gets orders wrong. And you're usually on the freeway before you discover it. The customer service is also inconsistent. There's some wonderful, smiling, sweet people that work there. There are also some rude, impatient combative individuals. My biggest issue at this Starbucks is how they continue to try to tell me I'm ordering a different drink than what I'm ordering to charge me more money. If you order a double expresso with hot breve (half n half), that's what you should pay for. Not a Latte. I like the double expresso with hot breve (not milk) in the morning to start my day with a bang. I do not want to pay for a Latte and then pay for an extra shot which brings my drink to double the cost. Please, charge me for exactly what I order. I know this Starbucks can do better so I look forward to seeing that improvement. read more

Most of the time I like Starbucks. It's consistent and the baristas are friendly. This one was not up to par with usual Starbucks standards. As others have mentioned, it's dirty. I can get over a dirty bathroom, however my even my tea arrived dirty. Fuzz and dirt of some sort all over the lid. Yuk! No greeting upon entry and I had to stand at the counter for a few minutes till I was acknowledged and the barista took my order. (Mind you, there wasn't anyone else in front of me in line nor was the store terribly busy.). I was on the lookout for a Starbucks while driving southbound on 5 freeway from Los Angeles to San Diego on Wednesday (11-13-2013) when I spotted this location right off of the Leucadia Exit. This Starbucks literally sits on top of a hill that overlooks the freeway and is located right next to a Shell gas station so you can gas up and get your Starbucks fix on. I exited the freeway and pulled right into the parking lot which is quite because of the drive-thru and how the vehicles waiting to enter the drive-thru block a majority of the limited number of the parking spaces. I have a compact vehicle and was able to maneuver through the parking lot with no problem and find a tight squeeze parking space to fit in. If you have a large vehicle and visiting this location, good luck. I was not sure what to expect when I walked inside based on the parking lot fiasco but I was pleasantly surprised. I found this Starbucks to be quite large inside. This Starbucks was clean and of course it is always important in my book to smell clean. After being on the freeway for over an hour I wanted to wash my hands before ordering my drink. I found the bathroom to be spotless, the soap dispensers to be filled and a hand blow dryer inside of paper towels (environmental). I exited the bathroom and there was no line. I walked up to the cashier and ordered a hot chamomile tea with an inch of steamed soy, 3 packets of organic agave syrup & cinnamon. The cashier got my order right on the money. The staff working on this day seemed friendly and seemed to be a good working team managing the walk-in & drive-thru service without a hiccup. Prior to leaving I walked over to the condiment section to mix my drink and found it to be fully stocked and spotless. I was in and out of this Starbucks within 5 minutes while the folks who elected to use the drive-thru service had a much longer wait. I make trips from Los Angeles to San Diego a couple times a month and now that I know this location is here I will without question be stopping by again. This is literally the slowest Starbucks on the face of the planet. They were also out of everything: chai, chocolate milk. Chai tea latte is the only coffee drink I can stand at Starbucks. Since they were out of chai and chocolate milk, I had an unsweetened black tea and lemonade and my tiny friend had milk with mocha in it. Bleh. All of this took 20 minutes in the drive thru. I typecast Starbucks as a delightful experience most, if not every time! However I did not get this experience from this location. The service was short and not as joyful as majority of the Starbucks I go to. I overlooked that factor since who knows, the guy could be having an off day. I got tea and a water and the Asian guy said to me "we don't do waters in drive through." This was after I asked very politely "could I bother you to get me a water as well etc..." so I told him "Oh REALLY... I do this EVERY time." ONLY then he finally gave me my water... Holy crap water is FREE. Is it that hard to provide something as simple as WATER for your Gold Member customers? "Gold Members" spend thousands of dollars annually to provide his actual JOB, so I have no idea why this basic, entitled guy was not being a gentleman for something as quick, easy, and simple as getting someone water.
