I start by say how truly amazing the owner and this company is, and I am so happy that we found them. Our unit went out a little over two years, so we been without heat and our AC was window units. The owner had us schedule right away so we can have heat, and his office assistance help us with rebates as well to bring down the cost. We contacted Star Mechanical about the A/C unit we purchased from them two years ago. Curtis, their technician, showed up on time and ready to work. He immediately started to diagnose the problem and work out several possible solutions. None of which worked. He needed to come back with a new part and showed the next morning first thing and continued working on the unit installing the new parts and checking the whole system in the process. My a/c went out on Sunday, I called around first thing Monday morning. The first four places couldn't get here until next week, no thanks we're in the dog days of summer! Star answered the phone right away and set an appointment for Tuesday morning between 9 & 10. I received a text confirmation of the appointment. Tuesday morning, I received another text saying the tech was on his way, he was here at 9am. He greeted my dog to calm her down (nice touch), diagnosed my unit - it was the capacitor (not of the flux variety). Curtis had the part in his truck and changed it out and my air was back in business, it took all of 30 min! I was charged $65 for the service call and $235 for the part. Was told tech would arrive 10-Noon (which I confirmed verbally with them twice on the phone). At 11:30 I called confirmed they were still coming and they told me it was scheduled any time between 1-4 pm. Tech texted at 3:10 pm to say he would arrive in 20 minutes. He arrived at 3:50 pm. This company was sent by my home warranty company. My HVAC service company had indicated there was a freon leak. This was a second opinion that I was looking forward to hearing. Tech checked outside unit and said there was nothing mechanical, the system just needed to be cleaned. It had in fact been professionally cleaned and serviced 6 weeks prior. Tech did not even check or test interior fan unit. Told me not to bother with a claim, that the warranty companies never approve anything- in fact really bashed the warranty companies, and said that I should just pay him $225 to clean the unit and it would work. I told him I did not want to pay to have the unit cleaned since it had recently been serviced. He shrugged his shoulder and left. He also left the gate to my fenced yard open unbeknownst to me and my dogs escaped. When I notified the company of my experience with the technician, they told me "maybe you should find another provider". 100%. Just terrible service experience, felt dishonest. I had Shawn assigned by the Home Owners insurance. He gave a diagnostic that we needed a control panel in the furnace. 2 weeks later a young man showed up to install the control panel in the furnace. After an hour of working in the attic he came down and the Ac was working fine now. I asked him if the control panel was bad after all. He replied yes and also that a wire was loose. When he was leaving he had in his hand a small box and I ask him if that was the control panel and he said yes. Then I asked him if I could see it, when I opened up the box to my surprise it was the BRAND NEW PANEL they had ordered. The young man went outside and made a phone call and he said they were going to send back the panel to the Home Owners insurance. Basically I got him stealing. I found Star Refrigeration on yelp to do some work on a rental property. To make a long story short, I was supposed to get an estimate which I never got. What I did get though was a phone from my TENANT saying the guy is asking for money because the work was done. After I was given my total ($250), I did some research and learned this company was charging about 60% more than others in the area for the work that needed to be done. I contacted the owner and tried to speak with him regarding his "quote" and the price of others to come to a medium considering how I never approved for him to do the work, but he wouldn't budge. So I paid him the amount he asked for and contacted my credit card company who looked into the matter. I don't know what they did or said to him, but at the end, I did get a partial refund. read more
