Short version - If you're looking for an honest, professional and supremely competent heating/air conditioning service company, the folks at Baker's are the absolute BEST! No up-sell, no B.S., just excellent work by very competent Techs, who get you just what you need/want and nothing more. I've checked, and found their prices are absolutely in line with other companies in my area, so no worries there, either. Here's the story: I had two, twenty-five-year-old central air systems (upstairs/downstairs) and my upstairs unit died several weeks ago, during a triple-digit heat wave, and I had to get it fixed ASAP. A relative, who works with large, commercial HVAC systems, offered to help me replace my compressor, but during the repair, the copper coolant return pipe was badly kinked, and due to the way the pipe connected to the old compressor, he said he could not repair the problem. After several recommendations, I called Baker's HVAC and Trevor came out to look at the old compressor to see if it was indeed beyond repair, and he even offered to try to fix it, but it would have required ordering specialty parts (if even available - it's a 25-year old unit!) from the old manufacturer, as they used roto nuts to attach the coolant lines to their compressor, rather that braising them on like other manufacturers do. So, I decided to replace the system, rather than chance a repair to my already ancient system. There's little sense in patching a completely bald tire. Trevor quickly sent me some quotes with the option of replacing just the condenser unit outside alone, or the condenser unit AND the evaporator unit inside the house. I opted to replace both parts of the system. When I asked him which model the quote referenced, and he had chosen a model for me that was actually quite adequate to replace what I had, but without being over-priced. After spending the weekend researching A/C units, I opted to upgrade to a different model that had a bit higher SEER rating and had more sound dampening measures built into the outside unit. This was my choice, and did you notice? - at no point did Trevor ever try to up-sell me on something I didn't need! That was a refreshing first for me and the HVAC companies I had used in the past. I even had him add a new smart thermostat to my job, and again, this was my idea, not an up-sell accessory. When the unit arrived, Trevor scheduled installation for the following day. He showed up exactly on time, fully prepared, and he finished the install (condenser, evaporator and thermostat) in one day by himself (I watched - and it's A LOT of work). The quality of Trevor's work is second to none and his attention to detail is seldom seen in any service industry these days. In my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find another HVAC service company that can beat Baker's on price, professionalism or workmanship. And, ALL my future service work will go to Baker's now, too. read more

My A/C system, which is now 14 years old, stopped in the middle of a heat wave last weekend when the outside temperature was 106F. Then it started again for a couple of days and stopped again. So I called my home warranty company to make sure that it would run consistently. They assigned the work to Baker Heating and Air and told me somebody from the company would call me within 24 hours. Sure enough, I got a call within 10 hours from Trevor (the owner of the company) and he turned up on time for the appointment this morning. He checked the whole A/C unit and said the compressor had many years life still left in it but sometimes might need a boost to start it during a heat wave. He recommended that the best solution was to put a booster capacitor (also known as a Hard Start Kit) on the compressor. When I asked him if this would affect the future life of the compressor, he assured me it would actually lengthen it. In fact, he said, compressors on new A/C units already have this booster built in. I asked him if he could replace the compressor should it totally fail. He replied that it was very unlikely but, if it did happen, he could do the job for about $1,000 (parts and labor). I felt quite reassured with this young man and his polite and confident manner and his work. I give him and his company 5 stars. read more

What a Great Company! I'm a very hands on type of person, and usually do not call out anybody for repairs, because I usually do them myself. However, our A/C unit at our office was not blowing air. I called Baker Heating and Air in Manteca, and Mr. Baker came to our office and worked on our A/C unit on a Saturday. His extensive knowledge on his trade is unmatched , as well as his honesty, and extremely fair pricing. As a business owner in the construction industry, I sometimes see other tradesman taking advantage of customers, and it doesn't sit well with me. With Baker, I didn't feel that at all, in fact he was very honest in his assessment, and replaced the broken part in under 1 hr., and billed me accordingly. That's the way is should always be. Without a doubt, the bad review below is just an upset customers because their home warranty coverage was denied and probably a little miscommunication. This is unfair on the contractor who is called out, because he has no authority to determine coverage. I will be calling Baker Heating and Air in Manteca, from now on. After seeing Mr. Baker work, I know that I'm going to get straight forward service. Best of all, I don't have to do the work myself, because he'll do it right in half the time and half the price. read more

I don't know how Randy U can give a realistic review when Baker Heating and Air Conditioning did no work for him. Baker Heating and Air Conditioning gave me PERFICT service. He checked out 4 different systems for me. Two rentals in Manteca, one in Lathrop and my personal residence in Tracy. He fixed one, estimated the remaining life in another, and recommended modifying the ductwork in an old heating system by installing a new larger duct to a room that was not receiving enough air flow. In all cases he took time to explain how he tested each system and showed me the results. In my personal residence, he tested the system only to find out that it was barely doing the job. No wonder my electric bill was so high! His communication with me was more than adequate. It may have taken more than an hour for him to return a phone call, but then I also realized I was not his only customer. Good job Baker Heating and Air Conditioning!!! read more

After work on a hot day, I came home to a non-working a/c unit. You always worry about replacing an a/c unit because of the cost. But you have to have a/c in the valley! I asked another teacher for a reference and they highly recommended Baker Heating and Air. He checked it out and was ethical, honest, and extremely reasonable. Rather than trying to sell me a new unit, he replaced some parts and had the unit working in no time. I had him check and service my two rentals. Again, same great results. I have referred the company to several of my friends who thanked me immensely afterwards. A competent and honest auto mechanic is hard to find but so is an a/c company. I highly recommend Baker Heating and Air. My experience was outstanding. Nowadays, we must be careful with whom we let into our homes, especially as a single mother. Sometimes, making household decisions for large purchases can be scary. I was guided through the process, explained how things would work, and treated like family. I panic whenever something breaks in my house or on my car because these days I never know who I can trust. Our home air conditioner stopped working on a Sunday, and of course it was the hottest day we've had this year. A Baker Heating and Air technician came out immediately after our call and found the problem within minutes. What a Great Company. I have a home warranty with AHS and when my AC went out last Saturday they forwarded my service request to another company with horrible reviews. I called them back to forward my service request to the best contractor and they booked me with Baker. I was told that the contractor will call me within 24 hours. After 2 hours Trevor called me and booked an apt today between9-12. Trevor came on time and fix the problem with my AC in less than 20 minutes. He is very professional and polite. I have had a string of bad luck with my air conditioner. Over the summer Baker worked really hard and had to make multi trips. They were rock stars. FIXED IT. Last week my heater decided to not work.
