I've been using this company for a while, but unfortunately, I've realized they've been doing the bare minimum during maintenance. I recently discovered the rooftop unit had no filter installed inside it -- even though there's a dedicated slot for one. Three months ago, I called to let them know I had already changed the indoor filters myself. I was just being courteous, thinking I was saving them time. Not once did they explain that the rooftop unit also needs a filter -- or that I had options depending on the system's static pressure and setup. That's basic info any professional should offer. What's worse, when I had a second opinion done by a trusted HVAC tech, he found a large tear in the ductwork -- something that likely had been there for years. This company had been called out before to check that very issue, and they failed to catch it. Why? Because they never performed a proper static pressure test or thorough inspection. They just show up, do the bare minimum, and leave -- but still charge full price every time. And in commercial service, they know most people won't question it. My AC busted on a Friday night! I do NOT do heat so I gave it the night off but when at 4 AM it wasn't kicking in, I started calling around. CenCal was the first to get back to me with a $200+ weekend fee. I was like ... well... I waited for a few others but they all said we are available Monday or no response. No way. I called at 8 AM and said come on out and they said they could see me at 12. At 9, the tech calls and says can I come by right now? I'm like, come on in! Cristian had it up and running in a few minutes. It's an almost 40 y/o machine so you have to admire the aged craftsmanship. He sold me on getting a membership. I had given up my home warranty because my appliances are all pretty new except my AC. The AHS was upping my monthly to $70 and that didn't sound sustainable. (They were a pain to cancel too). I wish I had known about this membership prior to me paying $250 for a weekend call. But it was worth it to be cool again. Today someone came out for my maintenance call. He checked my unit over and gave the all clear. Hopeful this membership keeps my unit on life support for a few more. ETA: and I like that they use the shoe covers. Replacing the HVAC system in your house is a big investment, and it really pays to do your research before jumping in. The system in my house was grossly undersized, and was not able to get the house cooler than the mid to low 80s, which was especially tough with this hot summer we've been having. I did my due diligence, and had estimates from three of the top Yelp-rated HVAC companies. CenCal sent out Brandon to take a look at my situation and give me an estimate for a complete system replacement. He immediately stood out - his professionalism and knowledge were both beyond expectation. He had already researched information about my house before coming out, and talked to me about the square footage of my house, the windows (number, size, and placement), my vaulted ceilings, and other details that impact selecting the correctly sized system. He went through my house with me, looking at everything and checking out the old system. He determined that the ideal system size for my house would be a 4 ton unit, and that made sense not only because of his calculations, but also because the current systems was a 3-ton that was not keeping the house cool at all. Brandon also talked about adding a couple of new registers to my frequently occupied main room to increase airflow. With the professionalism and knowledge that Brandon displayed and the services that CenCal offers both during the installation and with follow up maintenance, I decided to go with them. Being 100% clear, CenCal was not the lowest bid, but in cases like this where is a big investment that will last many years, it pays to pay a little more for far superior quality of work and follow up. You really do get what you pay for. Installation came the next week - the crew was here bright and early and 7:15am, along with a supervisor. He went through the job with me, and we he showed me the ideal places for my new registers, which I agreed to. Then the crew got to work right away - A guy stared unhooking and removing my furnace from the closet, a guy went into the attic to run the ducting and install the new registers, and a guy started removing condenser in my side yard. These guys were super-efficient and very friendly. I was working from home at the time, and I would check in with them occasionally to see how things were going, and they would always take the time to explain what they were doing and why. I had done a little research, and was interested to learn more about how these systems worked, etc. As they worked, they also had a guy that removed all of the register covers, sealed the ducting, and then replaced the registers. He then covered the registers in preparation for the duct pressure test. When everything was ready, they did run a pressure test and the system was well below the 15% required to pass per code. The heater and AC were tested and both worked great - we could really feel the air movement with the bigger lower and extra registers! They had cleaned up and left the house by 3:30pm that day... I couldn't believe they were done so quickly! When they left, my house was clean and it was like they were never here, except things were cooling down. By that evening, my house was in the low 70s and maintaining it with no problem. A few days later, Brandon came back out to check on how things went and provide me with a binder that had all of my information - the manuals, my 10-year warranty, etc. CenCal also takes care of the paperwork for my MID rebate - all I had to do was provide my account number and some info. The only last step will be when the City Inspector comes out for the final inspection. Overall, my experience at CenCal was excellent. Everyone I dealt with from the office personnel to Brandon to the installers were all super friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. If you are thinking that you will need any HVAC work or an installation done, you really need to make CenCal your first call. I called here after my fairly newer AC unit went out. The service from this place I will definitely say is wonderful, they are professional, they send you a text about your serviceman and a little snippet about what he enjoys in his personal time- kinda cool. They got us in pretty quickly as well so I assume the company is decent sized. The guy shows up, he's nice, he tried to sell me on their service package a handful of times where they come clean and inspect your HvAC system and furnace twice a year for like 250-300$ for the one year, this and it gives you a 10% discount on any service you get. I think the package is pretty silly and just a money grab scheme. I also think if you call them in the summer they're going to do what they can to grab you by the balls and charge you what they want. So although my AC works and they fixed it- they def ripped me off and I was in a position I couldn't do much. They basically needed to replace a party that was no more than $20 and did a quick diagnostics and within the hour billed me over $400. While reviewing the estimate I called a couple of people and shared what the issue was and they quoted me around 200-300$. This place was the most expensive. I lost my job months ago and have two toddlers, so I can't take a chance going into a week of 100+ degrees with no AC- I tried to ask our serviceman to meet me somewhere less than the quote due to my hardship, but that didn't mean anything. I would've gone with another company but this company had already told me they were going to charge me around $90 just for showing up. So at this point I wasn't really going to save money with another company unless it was marginal. So long story short, if you're looking for reasonable this is the most expensive option around town- so go elsewhere. I don't think anyone looks forward to replacing their AC and Furnace. It's such a daunting task to figure out which company is best to complete this job that is a major staple in your home. I did a little research and discovered Cencal. My AC wasn't cooling my house at all. I called them up and they had Hector out very quickly. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I knew my current unit was 32 years old and it was possibly nearing its fate. And it was. The owner, Jason, that SAME evening came out and talked to us about our options and was extremely thorough and transparent. I never felt like I was being oversold or pushed into anything. He answered every question we had and offered to relieve us by refilling our current AC with refrigerant to get us through the extreme heat we were about to endure. Which we did. I had a competitor company come out the next day and without saying anything to them - gave me the same diagnosis and the technician was able to give us his options. IT. WASN'T. EVEN. CLOSE. We had a 20+ year old HVAC that was working but was living on borrowed time so after a check-up by a technician from another company and a repair bid of $900, we decided to go out to bid for a new system. I received bids from three local companies and after extensive bid/company review we decided to go with CenCal. The technicians showed up right on time, wore face masks, booties and they quietly went about their work. After a full day of install, they finished the next day by noon. At noon, a senior technician came out to check to see if everything was good and if we were happy. There was some confusion on our part about filter use but the technician took a great amount of time to explain the differences in type of filters. He then said Susan would put together a binder with all our warranty and mechanical information. This binder was delivered to us with a very nice thank you gift and handwritten thank you note. Their office submits all the warranty/rebate info to the manufacturer and/or utility company which is a HUGE benefit to the customer. We had a gas furnace / ac unit replaced with a Bosch Heat Pump. Blower unit/furnace was in the attic area. Techs arrived at 7am then finished and left at 1pm. Very professional with a quality cleanup. It's early to tell how well the system will work as compared to the old unit, but the Heat Pump idea looks promising. read more

I've used cencal for a couple of years. Everything started great. I became a gold member. This past summer had my AC checked as they offered heating and air conditioner check. During the check, it was found I had a small leak in my unit. I figured this was the leak they told me about the year prior in a valve, but I was told it's only leaking 1/4lb a year and not to worry yet. It was not that leak, in fact. I was told by this service teck that I did not have a leak in the valve, but this was my evap cooler leaking, and it had to be replaced, they could not add coolant because it would be a waist. The cooler would take a week to come in, do to the 110° weather they waisted coolant so I could have ac. After a couple thousand dollars, they replaced the evap cooler. I asked the tech to check the whole hvac unit. I was told everything now looked great, and I should have no problems. Now winter is coming, and tech comes out The heater checked out in good order. 3 weeks later, the heater started making a little low pitched whine/ whistle. I called cencal back out and was informed my blower motor was going out. I was given a price with a military discount of over a thousand dollars. I expected to wait, but poof they had a motor in the van. The motor was replaced, and they told me the hamster wheel (fan) needed to be cleaned, so they cleaned it with degreaser and a scrub brush. It told me it looks like new now and will increase the performance. The heater blew harder then it ever has. For a few hours. Then the noise was back but louder then why I called them out. I called, and a tech came back out, checked the unit, and said everything looked great. It is just a more powerful motor and that all was workin great. Fast forward 3 or so days and the noise is crazy loud neighbors even comment on hearing it in their houses. I call this time senior tech comes out and says hamster wheel is bad and needs to be replaced. I told him the story and he said this should have been caught at the installation of the new motor and the bigger motor probably threw what was already out of balance way out. I was recently in need of an HVAC repairperson to come out and diagnose an issue with the A/C in my home, which I was in the process of selling. The main reasons I went with Cencal is because of the positive reviews on Yelp, the fact they put the diagnostic fee towards the repair and they agreed to come out to the house without me on the premises (I was not able to meet them the day of the repair.) Other five-star HVAC companies varied on the last two items. And one other HVAC company flat out flaked on the evening they were supposed to come out. With Cencal, I wasn't expecting a quick turnaround due to being in the middle of a scorching summer, but they were not only accommodating (they said they could come out the next day), but their customer service was second to none! Each member of their staff was very friendly, professional and their communication was awesome! I appreciated that they texted me information and a photo about the tech that would be coming out to diagnose the A/C. Additionally, the tech actually showed up on time and worked efficiently. He also called me right after he diagnosed the issue to get my okay on the repair. In this case, the repair involved adding more R22 refrigerant. The only negative part of this was their price for R22. At the time of the repair, they charged $175 per pound. It appears that the price went up considerably during the pandemic because the previous quote I received several months ago was about 1/4 the cost of that. I know that R22 has been phased out and I imagine there is no plan for the price to drop too much since the supply will continue to drop. The tech did confirm the price went up during the pandemic, but the cost varied per HVAC company. He also confirmed that the HVAC system would eventually need to be replaced and this was more of a stop gap repair (which I was already aware of, as was the buyer.) I really didn't have time to shop around and because of their amazing customer service, I decided to go forward with the repair. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cencal to anyone needing services from an honest, friendly, dependable, effective and efficient HVAC company... especially if exceptional customer service means something to you. They showed up the same day and quoted me a price that was by far much more reasonable compared to their competitors. I couldn't be more happier with the whole experience. JB came out and broke down what the repair would be and the steps that go into it. I had 2 other companies come out for quotes and they gave me estimates that were double the price and would require extra work that wasn't needed. If I didn't have any construction experience I would've fell for the other companies proposed estimates. They wanted to run new piping and add things to my A/C until that were not needed because they were afraid to repair the original line the same way it was installed before. Which makes no sense because it was working fine before the line was punctured. That leads me to believe that the technicians didn't have the experience nor knowledge that CenCal requires from their team. JB and Ignacio did an amazing job from start to finish they were clean and respectful of my family and property. If you're looking for a company that's honest, experienced, and provide A1 work. This is a follow up comprehensive review of Cencal now that the job has been completed and all my questions and issues have been resolved. First off, let me say that one of the things I love about Yelp is that people are not afraid to be transparent about their experiences. If there is something ugly about the way a business conducts itself, you will find out about it here. There is a very good reason these guys have 5/5 stars on Yelp. It is extremely tough to maintain these kinds of ratings and requires everyone from the owner to the frontline workers to live and embody a customer first philosophy. Ever since moving into this new construction home back in 2018, my experiences with contractors for anything homeowner related have been negative. Everything from poor workmanship to not following through on appointment times. It made me wonder if this was commonly accepted in the contractor industry. So when I decided to contract Cencal to replace my HVAC system, I was pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. Coming from a customer service technology background, I believe putting your customer's first is everything. You can have a great product or service but if your customer service is poor, people will have strong emotional feelings of negativity. They won't forget the experience, and likely drive away new business by telling people about their experience with you. If you do a mediocre job, people are less likely to provide feedback but if you do an amazing job, people will rave about you for years to come. One of the lessons many contractors fail to understand in this day and age is the importance of customer service and the cost associated if you do a poor job. There are many HVAC companies that could have serviced my needs but because Cencal has a track record of being exceptional, it is one of the reasons I decided to choose them. If they were anything less, another competitor would have received my business. My relationship with Cencal started when my air conditioner kept tripping the breaker. After searching around for HVAC contractors, I decided to give Cencal a try. The dispatched technician Brandon showed up the same day and one of the things that caught me by surprise was how strong his customer service skills were. First impressions are everything. He was very friendly, patient and very knowledgable. He had explained that the unit was undersized for the square footage of the home. Brandon did not try to upsell me on any services and presented the facts and my available options. We decided to bandaid the problem with a hard start kit instead of installing the proper HVAC unit because it felt like the most economical decision at the time. Fast forward a couple of months later, I discovered that the Honeywell Thermostat included with the home was using Z-Wave instead of WiFi. Long story short, the process to setup and control the thermostat was extremely difficult. I decided to replace the thermostat with an ecobee. Some wires got crossed and the thermostat would not power on. So I decided to contact Cencal again to investigate the problem and they were able to accommodate same day appointment. Brandon was dispatched again and was able to quickly resolve the issue. This time around, with a newborn daughter, I decided to upgrade to a proper HVAC system. We were able to schedule an upgrade two days later (wow talk about fast service). On the day of the install, 3 contractors showed up and like Brandon, they were very friendly, personable and knowledgeable. They took the time to answer all my questions thoroughly even though I kept interrupting them in the middle of the job. Because my backyard was renovated recently, they called the office and brought in the correct size foundation to support the new air conditioner unit instead of re-using the old one (very nice touch guys). They worked quickly and efficiently being very mindful of a crying newborn baby and dog running around. When a component of the job was completed (A/C, Furnace, Thermostat), they took the time to provide useful context about how the system works, how to operate it and expectations as a homeowner. We were up and running by the end of the day. In every instance when I reached out to schedule service or had questions, both ladies at the office Eva and Susan were exceptional. They were always very personable on the phone and I was surprised at how knowledgable they were about a broad variety of subjects from HVAC to Financing to rebates. From my experience when you call the office, they take down your name and pass you on to the actual contractor doing the work. It made reaching out a very pleasant experience. It made me confident I was talking to the right people. I understand why Cencal was voted "Best of 209". My a/c went out last night, I called Cencal at 8:15 this morning and a tech was at my door by 11:30a. Prior to his arrival, the company sent me an "arriving soon" text with a photo of the technician- a safety measure that I appreciated. Kha (the tech) wore a mask and put on boot covers when he entered my home. He explained the "what" and "why" of his suggested repairs, patiently answered my questions, and didn't rush me to make a decision. I expected the repairs would need to be done a different day, but Kha had the necessary parts on-hand and had everything fixed and operational in under an hour. Cencal's pricing is fair and their customer service is flawless (I realize "fair" pricing is subjective, but if handing a repair person my credit card doesn't make me want to cry, I consider the price to be fair).
