Constantly breaking buttons off my dress shirts, then charging me to replace the buttons. No apology, no sense of empathy. Every week I had to bargain with them that I shouldn't have to pay extra to replace buttons that they broke. I travel for work and I'll open up the shirts I packed and 2 out of 3 will have broken buttons. Oversights happen, but the lack of apology or empathy is really what has turned me off. I've gone back to Alterations To Go on Washington Blvd. A couple dollars more, but way better attention to detail, and free delivery. read more

Stay away if you need cleaning for any luxury items Experience: Brought in a $1200 Moose Knuckle parka (first cleaning) and asked them to turn coat inside out before cleaning (as per tag instructions) and they did not damaging the coat's shell. It looked like it had aged about 10 years when I picked it up. Now the value dropped to no more than $600. Very poor quality service for high price items. read more

If you have a specialty item I would say you should find whats called a high end dry cleaner. 2024 - They ruined a very expensive Moose Knuckle Parka dramatically devaluing it. The did not follow the manufacturer's instructions to reverse garment before cleaning even after I reminded them. Don't risk your lux items with them. read more

On the standard things they are acceptable. Anything out of ordinary, mending, altering garments, they tell you either why they can't do it or quote you some off the charts ridiculous price. They don't have the "we are here to assist the customer in whatever they need done" approach. read more

I have been using Star Cleaners for years and have always had a generally positive experience. They are more expensive, but they are a short walk from my apartment. However, I will never go back after my recent experience. I dropped off three pieces of clothing and was quoted a specific price. Upon returning to pick up my items, the price was no longer what we had agreed upon and was over double the initial amount. They made the alterations without my consent to the new triple digit price and forced me to pay the new amount instead of what we had agreed to on the original ticket. read more

Star Cleaners is a nice mom-and-pop business in Downtown JC. I came here to get my prom dress hemmed six years ago and came here again earlier this year to get two dresses fixed for a wedding. The woman who took my measurements and notes on alterations was extremely helpful and made some recommendations to fix the dress in ways I hadn't even thought of to make it more flattering. Service is also incredibly prompt. I had two dresses to be fixed and one was particularly difficult because it was chiffon and had several layers. I was expecting to pick my dresses up in about two to two and a half weeks but they had them done in a week. It can be difficult to find a good place to do dry cleaning and tailoring, especially when the margin for error for special occasion clothing is very tight, but I trust the people at Star Cleaners with my most precious dresses. They do fine work, and I recommend them to anyone in Jersey City in need of such services. read more

By far best dry cleaner I have found in Jersey City Working in high end fashion for many years it's very hard to find a place on the NJ side you can trust and has the knowledge with the fabrics that have to be cleaned. Not only are the aware what it takes for certain pieces be it silk, chiffon, sequence, full beaded garments but they will also educate you as a client in what you should not do to your pieces to make them last for years. They are extremely fair in price and beyond fair with timing I usually drop all my pieces off with no specific time frame and they are always ready within 48 hours. Been using Mr. and Mrs. Lee for my dry cleaning services ever since we moved into the area. Everything always comes out fresh. They are super efficient and willing to go the extra mile. Usually my clothes are ready the next day if I drop them off early in the morning, but the couple of times I've needed something later in the day, they were able to accommodate. They also don't take advantage. I had a sweater with beading and I dropped it off. They suggested I hand wash the sweater instead saying they thought it was a waste of money to dry clean it. I'm usually rushing in the morning, but drop off is super easy as they just type in the phone number associated with you account, and done! Literally two minutes in and out. Forgot your ticket? Why bother reviewing a dry cleaner? Woa~hoe....let me tell you. I tried maybe five other dry cleaners before I stumbled into Mr. and Mrs. Lee's dry cleaning plant...that's right....it's an onsite, dry cleaning operation. They are fully computerized but know me so well by now that I simpky walk in and it's as though my phone number is written on my forehead. They are non native English speakers, yet have amazing recall for the names of every single patron and their offspring who walk through the door. They've never lost an item. Yes, the bar for dry cleaning is that low....you need to give them props for simply providing a basic, professional service. But it goes way above that. These people love to talk dry cleaning, stains, hems, possibilities ~ yes, I'be been through all of it with them. I simply love giving them my business. read more

My friend and her fiance have been using Mrs Lee's place for years and years and years, so it was the place we went to for last minute bridesmaid dress alterations for pretty much the entire out-of-town wedding party! Mrs Lee was super nice, and def rushed to make sure everything got done in time. Everyone looked great! The only thing I would caution is there is a bit of a language barrier, so be patient and show/explain in DETAIL what you need done for alterations so everything is done correctly. Some of the things you would think are pretty common sense (yes of course, leave the boning in when you take in the sides) need to be specified or you'll be getting a phone call, or a job you're not happy with. read more

I love Mr. and Mrs. Lee--they're the Korean parents I never had. I've been going to them for the past six years, and they've always been honest when they can't get out a stain or dry clean something. They've never lost anything which is a feat considering how much business they get. After getting to know you, they'll begin to give you discounts on the more expensive dry cleaning items. Their tailor has changed several times, and you must be extremely specific if you need something done that is not standard (e.g, diff hem lengths for diff legs). If you're firm and insistent they'll make sure they do as you request. Also, you must note what type of hem stitching you want done, or they will do the hem that is the easiest. I would only take my casual pants/jeans to them, as the tailor has not always taken the time to eliminate puckering on shortening dress/suit pants. read more

Ive been trying to find a go-to drycleaner within a short walking distance to Grove st path for awhile now. Value for money, Star charges more than average in the area for pretty much the same service, pedestrian laundry and dry cleaning (-1 star). I also came on a saturday around 5 just to find the place closed. So the opening hours is an issue for me (-1star). I have waited before and went on a further walk to another cleaner. read more

I didn't have anything to wear to a party the night before, so I brought in my husband's Burberry dress shirt and the tailor made it into a perfect dress for me in under 24 hours! I came in right before they closed on a Thursday night with a XXL collared patterned shirt (I'm very petite and 5'2) and we spent 30 mins pinning it into what we hoped would be a wearable dress. At first the tailor didn't want to take the job because it was expensive fabric but I assured him he couldn't fail. He surely didn't either. I came in the next morning for a second fitting, and picked up the final product a few hours later. The dress looked soooooo cute and he even used the extra fabric to make a belt. Price was fair also even considering it was a rush job. Really exceeded my expectations and I felt so confident in my custom piece.
