I regret to have to give this review ( since staff and service at John's are friendly) I'v noticed over the years items missing from my laundry....socks...which is normal over time; but I buy $$$ socks in Europe and last year bought dozen pair of which, I only have 2 pairs left. This really didn't occur to me until recently when my favorite bandana went missing; then 2 days later an entire set Boll and branch sheets ( top sheet, bottom sheet and 2 pillow cases ) all went missing......then I realized I bought 4 pillow cases and all are now gone!! i dont do much of dry cleaning on my threads but johns cleaners on upper east side does a good job when i do. dropped off a few shirts and pants to be dry cleaned as well as 2 dress slacks that needed alterations and the job was done in one day and done right. everything is clean and wrinkle free and dress pants are now even on both bottoms. i would recommended johns cleaners even if its for the occasional dry cleaning job or alteration , etc. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic! They have very quick turnaround and are usually always on time. Doing my laundry at the self-service laundromats always left my clothes with a bunch of holes in them and a musty smell. Since I've started using John's Cleaners, I don't have anymore holes and my clothes smell so much fresher. It's also pure magic how they're able to fold my clothes so neatly/compactly and it makes it very easy for me to put them away in my closet. Truly a family, local business!! Tim, the manager, and his parents are the incredibly fast, efficient and friendly people you hope for when you're trying to get through the tedious task of laundry. He's been my go-to for all of my laundry and tailor needs since I moved to the UES 3 years ago. He washes everything from comforters to sneakers. I've had him alter gowns and they've come perfect. His prices are fair and he is as quick as they come. I feel so lucky to have him so close by! Never has one of my items been lost, damaged or has even so much as faded in color! The dry cleaning is fine/good - I've had no problems. They usually can't get out stains, but others probably couldn't either. I don't know the success rate of stain removal for dry clean-only items. I'll keep using them occasionally, but I kind of hold my breath every time I drop something off. Their alteration/sewing/mending services are sloppy. I've brought in 3 items over a couple years, had to bring back two to be redone (one zipper resewn only partway and crooked, and one button-down shirt hemmed where each side ended up a different length on the bottom). They corrected both to an adequate degree for no charge. The last item was a shirt with elbow blow outs and the repair was just a mess: a chaos of stitching with no regard for aesthetics and cheap, thin fragments of old polyester Hawaiian shirts (they didn't even match, not that it mattered) used for reinforcement on the inside. They matched the thread color to blend in as best it could, and I probably could have overlooked the gruesome stitching, but the material used on the inside was not only flimsy, but also too small and poorly located. It didn't last one wearing. I didn't even bother to bring it back here, and the additional damage from the poor repair made me give up on the shift entirely. Can't speak for the laundering services. read more

Horrible customer service!! I took 5 items to be dry cleaned, was told they would be ready for pick up on Wednesday. On Wednesday after 3 visits I was then told 2 items were missing, to which I became upset and demanded a refund, which they indeed did refund me. After I was horribly inconvenienced they called me Thursday morning stating they had found the 2 missing pieces, when I went to get them even though they offer free delivery and didn't offer this to me after there mistake. The gentleman asked me if I would now pay since they "found" items, when I declined due to all the inconveniences he told me not to come back to there store!! REALLY!! I would never return here and don't recommend this place at all!! read more
