I brought in a fairly expensive, too low-cut dress to be altered on a Thursday. The woman who helped me had me try on the dress, then made sure that it was pinned to my liking. At the time, she seemed to know what she was doing. She charged me $60 to sew the shoulders up, stating that it would be a difficult job to do, then asked me to pick it up the following Tuesday.
I picked out the dress on Tuesday, not even bothering to try it on (I should have), partly because I trusted them - I had 2 other dresses that I dropped off to be hemmed, and they turned out perfectly - and partly because I was in too much of a hurry to wait for them to clear out their curtained off area (right at the entrance, I must say), which they call their "fitting room", to bother. BIG MISTAKE.
I got home and did not try on the dress for another 2 weeks, when I was getting ready to wear it. It seemed like they sewed exactly where it was pinned, with the back part of the dress overlapping towards the front, so now, the back of the dress is pushing my neck forward , making it uncomfortable to wear. The low-cut issue was never resolved, and the armpit holes are completely uneven. I've done everything from pulling the dress back and sitting on it to keep it from hurting my neck, to clipping a portion of the back part and push the shoulders together; nothing helped. Unfortunately, I surrendered my receipt when I went to pick up the dress, so I doubt I can even go back their and ask them to fix it. In fact, I'm actually afraid to do so, for fear that they would screw up the dress even more.
BOTTOM LINE: go somewhere else. What you pay for isn't always what you get. I paid $60 for a crappy job; and now, I have to dish out more money for someone to fix
their crappy job. The cost of the alterations alone will probably wind up being half as much as the price of the dress. Do not go to these people. They have no idea what the hell they're doing. read more
