The last thing I would like to do is do laundry especially when visiting on vacation or on business. I recently completed a 4 day bike ride event and been away from home for almost a week. I almost ran out of clothes so I decided to come do laundry versus buying new clothes. I did not want to make my check bag heavier when going to the airport with new clothes. I do not mind cleaning my clothes as I am frequently in NYC so its okay if I am here for a few hours. Nestled in trendy Upper East Side of Manhattan is this normal laundry mat. I like the name they used. I am assuming they have multiple locations since this location is called number two. The inside is pretty typical of a laundromat and nothing special about it. This location requires you obtain a card and put credit on it for the washing and drying machines. There is no coin machines here at this site. It can be a pain trying to get change or putting coins in the machine. I like simply entering the card in and boom! Very smooth process. Now the cost is as follows. The small washing machines are $4 while the bigger ones are $7.50. Drying is 40 cents per 7 minutes. They sell a mini box of detergent and a mini box of dryer sheets for $1. The wash time took 25 minutes and the drying time took 30 minutes. I sit outside and people watch since it is in a cool neighborhood in NYC. I was not bored at all and in the end I was very happy that I had clean clothes finally that will last me the duration of my time here. I will be back here again ONLY if need to wash again. read more

This place is one of the neighborhood's only 24 hour cleaners so it's a lifeline for so many people here in Yorkville. They've jacked up their prices ($5.50 per small wash) and .70 for 6 minutes of dry time--you spend a fortune after carrying it over yourselves. On top of that --all the soap containers and washers are filthy with black mold. The place needs a deep clean and to stop raising their prices. read more

I left seeing the clothes start to circulate in the wash & came back 30 minutes later to find my clothes still dirty and smelling of bleach. One t-shirt was even ruined with small holes from sitting in the bleach for 30 minutes without being rinsed. I showed the attendant there and asked if she can help to at least let me put it through the hot cycle again in a different machine. After speaking to her boss on the phone she tried to explain to me that there was nothing wrong with the machine "he said it's working" and that I had to leave my name and phone number for her boss to call me and explain if she was going to give me a free re-wash in another machine. I refused to leave my info as her boss doesn't need to explain to me clean clothes- he's not there to see the result of dingy, bleach soaked laundry. The machine hot cycle clearly isn't working. She told me that it's her job to take my info for the re-wash. What kind of management requests a phone call for a $4 wash refund to explain something he's not even there for?! Eventually she let me re-wash but no empathy, apology or even reassurance that she saw the dirty clothing and would take care of it with her boss. FYI I didn't add any soap or bleach to the 2nd wash just wanted a hot rinse and there was tons of suds and my clothes came out actually white... proving there was something wrong with the first wash and the soap and bleach was never washed out. On top of the poor washing, the dryer I put my clothing in, I could barely get the "delicate" button to switch on for low air dry and when it did, my clothing came out steaming hot and shrunk, so that setting didn't work either. I don't have high expectations for a laundry mat, except that my clothes come out clean, in a timely manner and do not get ruined. Any issues that contradict those basic requirements, should be addressed in an understating manner. Considering the pricing here is 20% higher than almost anywhere I've ever gone, today's experience definitely made me want to deter people from coming and having the same issue! 1 star for convenience and 1 star for speed on the days the units actual work. Fix your machines if you're going to charge so much and don't fight your customers over a single $4 load. Just look into it, NICELY. read more

Quality, value. Beware they don't use laundry detergent for your clothes. It's horrible you pay for them to be washed. The owner is so rude.

It is unbelievable that a laundromat would allow people to bring their pets in. About 1/3 of the population is allergic to dogs, and many people are afraid of them as well. We should not be forced to put up with this inside a business. Many laundromats, including those in apartment buildings, already have a no-pet policy. That makes sense because, after all, we do not want pet hair to end up on our clothes. For health reasons many of us can't tolerate that. Pet owners should be cognizant of this as well and should understand that it is unfair to bring their dogs everywhere because many people have adverse reactions to them. They should be considerate and leave their pets outside. Rest assured, management, that many of my friends, relatives, and neighbors are bringing this to the attention of the Board of Health. I personally have been affected by dog fur, allergens, flying around in the air and ending up in my eyes. read more

I've been coming here for years and have only praise, especially for the hard-working, always pleasant women who work on each shift. I do, however, have a few suggestions: 1) Tonight it's 90+ degrees, and only one of the two air conditioning units is operative, and that one not very well. There were sufficient advance warnings of these heat waves and, more generally, about an especially hot summer. There is zero excuse for broken A/Cs. It's unpleasant for customers and inhumane for the staff, especially when many dryers are in use and raising the temperature even higher. 2) I've been here later in the evening and admit that even I was a little nervous that anyone could walk in to do who-knows-what mischief ...especially since there is only one staff person on the premises -- a woman. One time a homeless guy, mentally not right, did come in and stay a while... pretty nerve-wracking for us all. You need to have a security person on duty at night. There's a woman and a cash register that are easy targets for some perps. Again, no excuse. 3) Four dryers are "out of service" tonight. 4) The TVS are not working -- none of them. read more

On 2/7/23 at approximately 1:00pm, I went to do laundry. I typically come here once a week with no problems. Upon drying my clothes it was taking a while ( over 40 minutes). A gentlemen also had the same problem and said he had to switch to another machine because his dryer was not working. When we checked my dryer it was not warming up like his and I said something to the very rude lady working here. She stated it's because I left the "door open" on the dryer and for me to give it more time. These machines stop when the door is open, which contradicts what she was saying. In fact it will say "close door" on the screen where the minutes count down. I waited 10 more minutes and still it's not warm even on the high heat temperature. I had to switch machines and this lady working who refused to give me her name argued with me. I showed her when the door is open it stops. I even added the video. Sadly, when I first moved here I even brought donuts here to the staff since I would be supporting there business. After this, I will go somewhere else. It's not about the machines breaking. It's about the aggressive, unprofessional and humiliating behavior this worker gave. There is no reason to treat people that way and try to humiliate them in front of others. Customer service is what this city is based on and with everything that happened in the last few years I would hope companies would be appreciative to the people who support them, unlike this extremely rude lady. read more

This stinks to have to write because I usually like using this place. However, it has the WORST service recovery possible. I had my bedding and coat in the washer, and it wouldn't stop going, so the person there had to help me stop it, but it took forever and there was no urgency. I then had to lug my dripping wet items that leaked all over my shoes into other washing machines with no help. They even made me move them again, still sopping wet. They wouldn't spare an open washer for me, so I had to stuff all the items into less space than I should have, even though almost every washer was available. They didn't provide a credit when I asked, either. To make matters worse, I was also really hungry and had to pay more to order food to the place because my coat was trapped in there and it was cold outside, so I couldn't leave. I spent multiple hours on what should've been an hour max trip. Because I come from a hospitality background, this was really disappointing. I used to say I'd recommend this place, but right now the machines (washers and dryers) are breaking constantly every week and I've had to move my clothes multiple times now after loading a machine when it didn't start, and this was the worst of it. They do not seem to care about customers, so I've changed my mind to not recommend this place anymore. read more

Terrible!! She Can't speak any English,, They charge whatever they want and then can't explain why your small bag is $41. One lady calls another lady on the phone to further the torture ,who still spoke no English. Frustrated at this point , I reached in my pocket and gave her my only cash which was two $20's so I am $1 short ( to me I was overcharged by more than $20) I asked if I could Zelle her the $1 and she said no. Do not use the wash and fold service here unless you don't want your stuff back. It's unlimited trouble!!!!!! This wash and fold service has no merits. They loss your stuff, or simply just not giving back. They don't care about customers not your time, your belongings at all. They have no respect to laws. They are crazy people. Do yourself a favor! Save your time, life and energy. Just use many other wash and fold service on the street. Not this one!!' Here is my story. I used this place because it's same day pickup and open till 10pm. Unfortunately, that is where the nightmare started. Their people mix up laundries and couldn't find it. They claim that it was mixed with mine, which is untrue. Instead, they simply holding my sheets not giving me back and ask me to bring their sheets back, which I don't have. The whole thing is ridiculous! I went several time ask my stuff back. They said their boss is not here. They hide my stuff in front of my face to the storage room. Two months later, I couldn't take it any more. I called 911. The police officer told them that they cannot hold my property. The woman finds some excuse to ask me back next Monday. The police officer suggested to go back on Monday. It's hard enough to trust somebody not to mess up your laundry, but to altogether lose it is just not cool. I opened up my laundry to find somebody else's pillowcase. It was red and pink. Mine was white with flowers and a zip top. I went back to find mine and ask how this happened. All I got was a nonsensical explanation about her remembering there wasn't a matching one. But why was somebody else's in my bag? And where's mine? I was more or less told I was out of luck. More inclined to give this place or 2 than 3 because lately, every time I walk in, there are less and less washers available. The majority of the washers and many of the dryers all have "out of service" labels on them. That's kind of annoying. Why is there seemingly nobody fixing these machines? Fortunately, every time I've used a dryer that appears to be working, but clearly isn't, at least the employees have offered a refund. But what I would rather have, is a laundromat where most of the machines are working rather than not. I continue to go to this place because it's convenient. It's also reasonably priced. I accidentally left a few items here and when I realized I forgot them I went back and I was told that they didn't have them and that they had no lost and found, which would have been fine, but I went in recently and one of the employees was wearing my sweater (see photos) that I left at the laundromat. I understand that they they are not liable if someone else takes your belongings if you're not watching them, but your items should be safe from employees taking them. Came here on an emergency laundry expedition that required a 24-hour joint. Even though my apt building has a laundry facility, I'm kinda OCD about how my clothes comes out from a dryer & for some odd reason, my building's dryers get my clothes wrinkled....aaanywho. Place is clean, washing machines were well-maintained & the drying machines seemed like newer models...so you kinda get excited to play with shiny new toys. Prices were your average laundry-mat prices & you don't have to deal with stupid clunking change 'cause they use cards you add credit to. And since their machines are up to par, you don't end up spending too much 'cause they handle business just right. read more

OK -- two strikes and you're OUT...I am not giving The Mat II a third chance... I've dropped my laundry off here a few times and each time I am always extremely dissatisfied. Their sign outside says $1/lb for first 10 lbs, then .85 afterwards. No matter how much laundry I bring in, they ALWAYS charge me the full dollar. If I drop off a 19 lb of laundry, how do I get charged $22 for it?? Oh, its because they charged me $2 extra to wash/dry my whites and darks separately. Ridiculous. Recently, I dropped off my laundry at 2pm on a Sunday requesting pick up by that night. They told me to come back at 9 -- great! I leave to go to brunch and I realize my ticket says pick up for Tuesday....so I call them to ensure that my laundry would be done by 9pm and they said "it will be done before then." 9pm rolls around and I head inside to pick up my clothes. After 5 minutes of searching for my bag, the lady realized they were still in the dryer. I noticed that my whites and darks were all in the same dryer!! I caught them red handed! They charge me $2 to wash/dry whites and darks separate, yet they throw them all into the same dryer anyways!! RIDICULOUS. I come back on Monday to get my clothes... EVERY time I bring them home and take my clothes out my shirts are always SO unbelievably wrinkled. As in, I need to iron them or wash/dry them again all together because I cannot wear these shirts to work like this. Total waste of time and money. There are dozens of other laundry places on the same block that I can go to instead. read more

I actually borrow a zipcar to bring my laundry down here. I might be biased because I'm a bit of a night owl and the laundromat near my apt. has a last load policy of 9:30. I'm almost never home by then. So, 24 hours is a plus! Also, it's across the street from a 7-11 which is convenient if you need late night snacks. Also, there's a patio like thing in the back and seating in the front. I also love that it's clean, has TVs to keep your eyes occupied, and it works on the card system so I don't have to hold a cup full of quarters. Plus there is a lot of folding space. The dryers also work better than the one near my house and so far I haven't had a bad one. You know how annoying it is to have a couple dryers going at the same time and one of them doesn't really work and then you have to move them to another dryer and waste another 20 minutes... It might get a little cramped if you go at a normal time of day though. I've never been before 10pm. read more

The first time I visited The Mat II was Christmas 2008 (I have returned 2 times since) and my experience was vastly different than Cheryl S.'s. This laundromat is super convenient (24 hours), pretty damn spacious (plenty of machines and ample folding space), spic and span (clean and non-sketchy), and well equipped (new fast machines, lots o laundry carts, wall-mounted flat screen TVs, and has adequate seating area). At no extra charge you feed dollar bills into a machine and load a laundry card. You pay for all washers ($2.49 for a small machine) and dryers with the card (quarters begone) and you can also use it to purchase single load boxes of detergent ($0.75) just in case you run out. Without having done a TON of research I would predict that the prices here are pretty competitive for the neighborhood while the facilities exceed others I've seen. This laundromat attracts a friendly non-threatening crowd who doesn't steal any of your stuff if you run across the street to 7-11, and there seems to always be something good on tv. Perhaps The Mat II has undergone a makeover since 10/7/2008. If not, someone here is very confused. read more

Here's the thing: The Mat II is open 24/7 and that, in itself, earns it 4 stars. The fifth star is because it is the cleanest laundromat I've ever seen/been in/used. I'm talking squeaky clean, especially compared to other laundromats and laundry in my building. In addition to being clean, it's also very well kept machine-wise -- everything not only works, but works well. There's been a lot of talk about the employees...and I'm not sure as to why. For a laundromat in the city, it doesn't get a whole lot better than this. Wash and fold services are available for $6 for the first 8lbs and $1.00 per pound thereafter. Even on a busy Sunday, or Saturday finding a washer and available dryer isn't too difficult; at worse, you may have to wait 5 minutes but so far, we haven't had to. Washer prices range from $2.00 per wash for the average/smaller washer and go up to $7.99 for the xtra-large capacity washers able to accommodate several towels, blankets or bedspreads. Drying cycles cost .25 cents for 6 minutes; not so bad since the dryers, like all the washers are industrial, (none of those traditional coin operated machines) and dry very quickly. Very clean, seating is provided on a back patio or on a couple of benches out front to read a book or have a bite to eat to pass the time as your unmentionables once again become mentionably clean. read more

Hands down best laundromat and laundry services I've ever had. Although to be fair, they're the only ones I have used since moving to NYC. I lived on the UES for a year and used this place weekly either for doing laundry myself or for dropping off. They're always friendly and great and remember me by name. They take cash only for drop off and for the machines, you put cash on a card which makes life easy. The machines are brand new and very nice. There are TVs while you wait and also seating. They provide you with rolling basket carts to put your laundry in too which was great! I recently moved to Midtown East and even though I'm 30 blocks and 1 ave away, I still come here to do my laundry bc I trust this place and the prices are great. There are no self service laundromats here in Turtle Bay either which suck. But I don't mind coming back up here! read more

If you don't mind hanging out and doing your laundry for an hour+ then The Mat II is the way to go. They have LOTS of machines at pretty reasonable prices. The dryer is industrial strength so you don't have to wait too long for your clothes to dry. What I appreciate the most about The Mat II is that their laundry cards are free and they have a bunch of extras at the cash machine. They aren't trying to rip you off by having to buy a new laundry card. This goes a long way in my book. Wash n'fold drop off is $1/pound which is also a very major plus! read more

If you have to do your own laundry, this is the place to do it. The machines come in all sizes, the prices are reasonable, the staff is helpful (especially the first time when I had a gazillion questions), there are lots of carts to bring your wet clothes to the dryers. I hate Laudromats. They're usually crowded and noisy, and I constantly have to watch out for sanitary problems. With that said, Mat II is not a bad choice in the neighborhood. The Mat II is my secondary laundry on York Ave since it's a bit further up the road for me. But I venture to the Mat II when I do my laundry early in the AM, since they are open 24 hours. In addition to convenient hours (how much more convenient can it be than 24 hours?), TV service is provided and there is a backyard area, with benches. They even have air conditioning withing the laundry if the weather warrants. Mat II is more expensive than some other local options- regular loads are currently priced @ $4 and dryers are $0.40 for six minutes. read more

I am SO lucky that I live so close by. I see people camping around this place and, though it's a nice area, I'm glad I can walk back home between loads. (Except maybe now I can't since I've said that out loud). I really can't believe I spent a good 6 months getting my laundry done for me at that place nearby (look across the street down a block it has green letters). Cut your costs in half here. [SERVICE] I used their wash and fold service before I had to leave for the airport. I hate having to pack dirty clothes after a trip. Even though I had a tight deadline before I had to be at the airport, the lady helping me was more than understanding. [PRICE] They didn't charge me any extra rush fee. Great local laundromat. Easy to upload money onto the card and its large and spacious. The price for a small load of laundry is $4. The machines look old, and the timer did not accurately portray when my load was done ( it was still spinning with soap when the timer was up and took about 5 more minutes to fully stop). Dryer is 40 cents for every 6 minutes. Slightly more $ than my previous place. But the cherries on top are: the outdoor seating area, as well as good customer service. One of my dryers felt cold even when I put it on high heat ( especially in comparison to my medium heat one which was burning hot relatively speaking)- I brought it up to the staff member's attention and she gave me 6 min additional. It seems sometimes the Dryer can oscillate between being very hot and medium hot, no matter what temperature setting you put it on. Not too crowded on off peak times. Note that the hours have changed- i think the last wash it at 9pm. read more

After deciding to drop off my laundry for the first time, I chose to go with The Mat II, as they had a sign outside stating that there was a "50 cent per pound special". I called ahead of time to make sure that the special was still in effect. I was assured by a woman with poor English that it was an ongoing special that they had. I came by with my 20+ pounds of laundry in a cloth bag and a standard blue Ikea bag, deposited it in the weigh machine, and was told that the laundry would be available later today. I asked them one last time just to make sure they had their "50 cent special". They then told me for the first time that the 50 cents only applied after the first 10 pounds, and that it was $1 a pound. I was furious, as the sign simply said "50 cents per pound", and then quickly realized that this is how they get people to come in for business. I decided to go ahead with the laundry, as I assume all customers do when they mistakenly come in for the deal. I was told that my laundry would be dropped off before 9pm when deliveries end. At 9:05, with no laundry in sight, I call them asking where where my clothes are. The woman on the phone looked all around, asking multiple coworkers if they had seen my laundry . At this point I've really had it with the terrible service. I hear the woman convince a worker who clearly does not do deliveries to drop off my laundry, as all the other delivery men had left. 20 minutes later (I live two blocks away, it takes less than 4 minutes to walk there), I am greeted by a teenage girl with my cloth bag and no Ikea bag. They had managed to squeeze all my laundry into one bag, but lost the other bag that I dropped off with them. I would leave zero stars if possible. They are unprofessional, lost my property, and clearly do not have any idea what they are doing. If the other Yelp review is true that they have switched management, then I urge all former customers to find another laundromat because new management is a nightmare. I love this laundromat. I have Landry in my building but choose to do it here because my clothes feel so much cleaner. Machines are big and use lots of water which I love. Also, a cab driver dropped me off nearby once and told me he comes up here from 20 blocks away to use this laundromat because it's so much better than most. I've never used drop off service so can't comment on that. Only negative is it's a tiny bit pricy but I think worth it. read more

They say that movie sequels are flashier and less substantive than the originals, but The Mat II (a laundry spinoff -- heh -- to The Mat, located at 1717 First Avenue) delivers a solid dose of washer and dryer performances. And it's open 24 hours a day. I haven't used the drop-off service at The Mat II, but the place is always clean, and the washers and dryers are in good repair. It's outfitted with flatscreen TVs usually playing the Discovery Channel, chick flicks, or TBS action movies. No quarters necessary -- the laundromat's plastic "credit" cards make change machines obsolete. A cute outdoor area is open out back (probably just during the summer) -- perfect for talking on your cell, and the benches out front are a nice place to people-watch during the rinse cycle. read more
