I have a white Guayabera all linen long sleeve shirt with the vertical pleats on the front, the kind you can wear to church, to weddings, to fine dining, and on important dates. Now then let that shirt be unknowingly stained in multiple places on each sleeve by a dark and tarry mushroom supplement you take. You think, "this shirt is ruined on the first wear." Not so quick with Josh and Champion Cleaners. I texted Josh and told him of the challenge to clean this shirt. He replied, "we'll do our best." I came to Champion Cleaners to dry clean a bespoke suit jacket that cost nearly $1,000 and took 1.5 months to make. I received the jacket back with substantial damage to the chest area that is unfixable (I asked the top reweaving professionals in NYC for their opinions and they all said the jacket is unsalvageable). His first excuse was that the jacket had a hole before I dropped it off. He then backtracked and said that it deteriorated during the dry cleaning process after I mentioned I have pictures of the jacket before it was cleaned. He saw the stain and decided to put harsh chemicals on it knowing the risks of destroying it and did not disclose any warning to me. Josh at Champion Cleaners refuses to provide compensation for his mistake and has recommended I proceed with litigation. I owe the owner this review and I'm sorry this has been long overdue -- sorry Josh! Right before Christmas I went to a friend's birthday party and made the idiotic decision that I was gonna wear my favorite white wool skirt. I ended up spilling red wine all over it and the stains were literally everywhere on that skirt and turning dark brown. The skirt was out of stock everywhere so I was really devastated. I then, again being a complete idiot, sent the skirt to a dry cleaning delivery service I usually use -- they didn't manage to get the stain out at all, only made it slightly lighter but still unwearable. I even looked up dying and embroidery as alternatives to save the skirt. Then I found this cleaner on Yelp and one of the reviews mentioned they managed to get the red wine stains out of a slip cover so i thought I might as well give it a try. I brought the skirt to Josh and he said the previous dry cleaning process made it difficult for a second round of cleaning because he needs to take out whatever chemicals they used first before they can apply theirs. He said no promises but he'd try his best. I left the skirt there for three weeks since I was going on holidays vacations. When I came back -- omg!! Josh completely saved the skirt. He told me he let the skirt go through 6 rounds of cleaning processes and finally got it to this state, and he didn't charge me any extra. Is there still a slight mark of stain? Yes if you look closely. But is that skirt wearable now? Yes totally! I wore it to a concert recently and nobody noticed. I don't have the before pic because it breaks my heart to look at it but I can guarantee you it was in a horrendous amount dark stains. And look at the after!! Champion Cleaners is the best!!! I brought a vintage Burberry dress to be dry cleaned and unfortunately during cleaning one piece melted. The owner explained that they couldn't have seen that coming. Even though it wasn't their fault, the owner took the dress to 2 different tailors (one of whom refused to work on it) and ended up getting it fixed (free of charge)! A few hooks were missing when I took the dress in, and the owner even had the tailor fix those, again free of charge to me. Although I didn't get the name of the owner, he was genuine and friendly. He told me to come in two days later to pick up but to call in case it would be ready a later time. I waited three days just to give an extra day, as I wasn't in a rush. When I came back, he remembered exactly what I got cleaned. For the convenience that I am in midtown often, I found Champion Cleaners from the top reviews and they were true! My satin duvet was like-new and clean. It was totally worth the money, and I was satisfied with the price. They accept card and are open decently late. I believe they do same day service as well. Champion worked a miracle on my sister's sweater! We found this sweater at an outdoor flea market and it really needed a clean. We attempted to hand wash it according to the directions but the blue dye bled and left the sweater worse looking than before. The owner said he was doubtful they would be able to remove the stain but promised to try his best. They tried EVERYTHING, they even called to ask for permission to run it through water to try and get dye out. 2 weeks later (this was a very difficult project) I went to pick up the jacket and was AMAZED! The results speak for themselves (the color of the sweater did not change, the after pictures were taken in a different room): the stains are range from completely gone to barely noticeable! If you have a treasured thrifted find that needs to be cleaned; let these guys handle it first! I give one star based on the inflexible delivery service, rude man who answers the phone and the dry cleaning itself. I gave my clothes to Champion on a Friday morning, notifying them that I needed a turnaround by Monday morning. They said it was no problem and to call anytime before to schedule a delivery. Four times, Champion under performed which is irritating when I am unable to under pay accordingly. First, on Monday morning, I called for delivery but Champion did not show up in 30 mins as they said they would. Second, on Monday morning, I called back and scheduled a delivery on the same day at 6:30pm; come 6:30pm, no Champion. They reasoned that they needed confirmation that I would be home. Third, on Monday early evening, I called for the 3rd time. The man on the phone blamed me for not calling to confirm the 6:30pm delivery (after reminding me that I'm not their only customer). He said delivery would take 15-20 mins. I took over an hour. Fourth, (a) my clothes weren't pressed with clean lines, (b) Champion didn't take the time to cut loose threads, (c) Champion didn't zip dresses up which resulted in lopsided dresses. read more

I got oil on a newly purchased down coat with a polyester shell and was convinced the stains would be permanent (oil on polyester is famously difficult to remove!). I brought the coat here and they completely removed all of the oil stains! It wasn't easy but the owner made sure absolutely everything was done to try to remove the stains. SUCH a fan. Normally go to the dry cleaners down the street because of sheer convenience. Not only was I not able to get out the original marks but they also left watermarks on my clothes! I had given it back to them and they said there was nothing else they could do. I brought it into Champion Cleaners, got it back and the stains were slightly better but still there. I pointed them out, and lo and behold, by the next week (now at least 1.5 months since the original stains) they got the stains out! Great wash n' fold! I was staying around the block at Pod 39 Hotel with my boyfriend for 10 days and we both needed some laundry and dry cleaning done. I've lived in cities before so there was no way I was going to pay per item at the hotel when there are places like Champion near buy! The price is incredible and the service was fast and reliable. I dropped off 15 lbs of laundry, paid extra for a laundry bag and washing colors separately, and dry-cleaned a men's suit and a sweater - it was less than $60 for everything! I almost never write reviews. I admit to being a selfish Yelp user. However Champion cleaners really helped me out so I felt the need to sing their praises. I have your standard pottery barn couch with a very light covered linen slip cover, almost white but not quite. One night I pulled a typical idiotic move and tried to swat at a fly right next to my very full glass of red wine, and you can probably guess how that turned out. The stain was about the size of a dish towel, and deep red. It had also dripped down onto the dust ruffle so both pieces (the main seat cushion and the whole piece underneath) needed attention. When I brought these pieces in, Josh at the front desk promised me he would try his best to get the stain out but that there was a possibility the stained portion would be white after removal of the stain. I said it was worth trying so I left and crossed my fingers. Josh called back later to say that he had spoken to his employee who does the stain removal and that he wanted me to bring the remaining cushions over. Since there was a chance that the stain removal process would change the overall color, he thought it best to run all of the slip covers through so they would ultimately match. He did all the extra covers at no charge. I got all my pieces back without a trace of red. Can't say enough about the customer service. Josh also rigged up a way for me to carry it all back to my house around the corner that was much easier than managing on my own. Thank you Champion Cleaners!! read more
