My first ever negative Yelp review, that's how upset I am. I took an expensive designer gown (that's special to me) to this place upon moving nearby, and appalled at what I received back. It was my 2nd visit here, and after the first time I had similar thoughts thinking the returned items had new markings and a weird smell, but convinced myself I should try them again- kicking myself horribly. Stains all over my dress, literal dirt on it on different areas that doesn't take much to get out, the color looks incredibly different and duller, and it has a bizarre unpleasant smell to it. It looks and smells dirtier - how is that possible? The real kicker is that I already thought this place was a rip off with how much they charged, but to charge this for a disgusting, careless, harmful result? AVOID! read more

Thrilled to have found Hattan Cleaners after Care Label closed down suddenly two weeks. I gave a treasured cardigan for repairs and Maggie, the seamstress, took a look and found three holes. I also asked Jay to have it dry cleaned. Total cost was $30.45. Worth every penny and the service and kindness was first class. Located on Third Avenue between 14th & 15th Streets, it's near the bus stop which makes it nicely accessible. I already asked for another tailoring job that I will get done here. I learned recently that there is a new owner of the store. They have nothing to do with any of the prior reviews. The store is now a family owned and operated store and really great. They were extremely fast in getting me quotes for dry cleaning and wash and fold. Prices are very reasonable. They even have free delivery and pick up which is really convenient. At first I was hesitant to visit Hattan cleaners because of the handful of negative reviews. The reason I chose to come to the city to Hattan was because my friends recommended it to me. Plus I don't really know too many trust worthy dry cleaners in Queens. I think they were quite professional and speedy with the service. Many of the reviews here mentions that the owner seems to be some kind of dry cleaner nazi, who refuses to do everything in a rude and dismissive manner. I didn't experience the rude treatment, but he did try to refuse something to a current customer when I was waiting. The reason he tried to refuse service was mainly because he didn't think that the stains would come out, and in fact the job may actually ruin the shirt after treatment. I think this is much better than getting a damaged shirt in return a few days later. I like the honesty of the owners and the quality of work that Hattan cleaners completed. They did such an amazing job on my wifes wedding dress that it looks like new. They were able to get all the stains off, even the grass and dirt from the bottom of the dress. So clean that we can return the dress as new or never worn?... genius! Maybe that should be their new motto Hattan may not become my regular dry cleaners considering I live all the way in Queens, but I can definitely say to anyone who is located closer than myself and is looking for a dry cleaner they can trust to do some reliable work, I would highly recommend Hattans. read more

DO NOT USE THIS CLEANERS. I brought 14 pounds in for wash and fold and they lost 9 pounds of it. They are offering to reimburse me $350 which doesn't cover half of what I had in there, after only offering me $250. What a complete joke of a place. I'd give it 0 stars if i could. I have to admit, I was little skeptical, even given all of the great reviews on Yelp, that any cleaners could be this good thanks to so many bad experiences with cleaners in the past (my apologies Hattan - pls excuse) but Hattan cleaners has far surpassed any and all expectations. Their customer service in person is excellent and clothes are usually ready early. Their pick up and delivery service is quick and efficient as well. However, the thing that compelled me to write this review today was a text message I recieved this morning - from Hattan. They found a hole in the lining of a coat that I dropped off and offered to fix it - via text. They didn't waste my time with a phone call, it literally said, "Hey Gray, navy sport coats needs sewing right underarm lining. Cost of repair $X Text Clean & Repair or Clean Only. Thx Hattan Cleaners." I was blown away. Not only by the simple quick and easy communication but also by the thorough inspection and attention to detail. A zero rating would be more appropriate. Be very careful there -ripoff. I just brought a 2 piece men's suit in and they charged me $19.75 for cleaning! When I asked why not the usual charge of $15.75, I was told it was because of the material. then she points to my suit label which she shows me is Boss and goes see? Well, so what? If label was Joseph Bank, no extra charge?? And this suit is not silk, satin or even spun gold!! I have never heard of anything like this before and have had my suits and this suit cleaned by other cleaners and even worse, cleaned by the prior owners of this now scam joint. When I had brought it in she never said there would be an extra charge because of the material. ! Pure rip-off. To make a long story short, I had an EXCELLENT experience here with an alteration. I brought in a J Crew suit jacket that had been mailed to me in a 9x12 envelope (and that was the last time I bought something off Ebay). It was pretty trashed in terms of wrinkling; the lapels were all screwed up. It was also a bit tight across the belly -It needed about 3/4" of additional room. Benny, the gentleman who greeted me, wasn't very enthusiastic about taking the alteration job, but he was relatable and explained precisely why he was leery of it -he said that modern manufacturers don't leave enough extra cloth and he wasn't confident about being able to get the needed 3/4". Well, I begged him to do it, and he took it on. And after receiving the jacket back from Benny, and I'm as pleased as I could possibly be about it. The alteration came out perfect. The pressing was also perfect. And I'll be bringing a second jacket to him soon for the same alteration. read more

Never underestimate the power of a great tailor! I was in a pinch for my wedding. Traditionally for a Chinese banquet, an outfit change is usually required. Because of my curvier figure, I could not fit into a regular Cheongsam, and struggled to find the right red dress as a substitute. I managed to get something from one of big chain bargain store for cheap - but something was completely missing (aside from the frayed hems). With a recommendation from a friend, I arrived at Hattan. And then came the magic of combining ribbons from a fabric store and a pair of great sewing hands. The dress looked so much more expensive than it was and the service was so great! The people behind the counter are always cheerful and warm, and in the maybe one or two instances that I've gotten an alteration job back and something wasn't right, they were able to fix it in no time. When I brought a dress with a coffee stain on it, the gentleman behind the counter was very honest with me that he did not think dry cleaning would remove the stain. Instead of wasting my money, I brought the dress home and was able to treat the stain. Cant wait to see this place go out of business. I paid for my laundry and when I opened it all my clothes smelled like dirt, did not have any trace of being washed with soap, and had dirt stains. When i went back to complain, the lady at the front desk started screaming at me and her only response over and over was that she can show me a video of the clothes washed with soap (they claim to record every wash which sounds sketchy and if its true that clearly means theyve faced countless complaints.) after asking for the manager, they continued to say they refuse to re-wash my clothes and kept repeating the video claim. After 30 minutes of discussing they gave me 30% off only bc i said i worked for yelp. I am never going back to this place. They dont take care of your clothes, dont care about their customers, and treat you badly. read more

My last posting regarding this business was more of a question than an actually review. I had so many good experiences it would be unfair to judge the on one questionable transaction. The outcome is no one had an experience like mine, having me believe the transaction is an isolated misunderstanding. The owner actually approached me to showed me his work, as well as the quality and time put into it. I could clearly see the difference in the work he did for me compared to other businesses in the area. This was a misunderstanding I could've avoided if I just asked questions in the very beginning. I took a dress and a pair of work pants here to have them hemmed. I asked them to shorten the bottom hemline of the dress three inches. When I came back to pick it up, they had shortened it, not exaggerating, around 10-11 inches. The length of the dress, which had hit just below the knee beforehand, was now at a laughably pornographic length that didn't even fully cover my butt. I'm pretty short, so I've had plenty of dresses taken up a few inches in the past - therefore, I have a good idea as to how it should have turned out. They had very obviously NOT done what I'd asked them to do. But when I pointed it out to the owner (an elderly asian man), he started screaming at me, telling me I was wrong, and insisted that I pay $45 for the dress alterations, although I was already out $250 for my new dress that was now very clearly unwearable. He also refused to give me my pants back (the pair I'd brought in with the dress to also have hemmed) unless I paid for the dress too. I had to go back in another time when his son was working & he wasn't there to even get the pants back at all, and after I'd already paid & got them home, realized they'd never finished the job anyway - only the back side of one leg was stitched and the rest was still pinned. The owner was unforgivably rude and unaccommodating, and the work they did for me (if you can call it that) was terrible and overpriced. I will never go back here. read more

After consistent patronage over many, many months, I was told that Hattan Cleaners would no longer pick up my dry cleaning because: they weren't making enough money off of me. My monthly bill averaged $100; I'm not sure what they expect in this recessionary environment. Be advised: AVOID HATTAN CLEANERS if you plan to keep your annual bill under $1200. My friend recommended me to this cleaners. I was very amazed on their alteration skills and their dry cleaning services. They had altered my bridesmaid gown in just 2 days and it came out GREAT!!! The price is reasonable and I like their friendly front desk girls which are always very helpful when I had questions on my clothes. I went to Hattan when I moved to Gramercy because all of the great reviews on Yelp. Most people seemed to focus on the family ownership of the business, and years of good quality. Well, I think the son is running the place into the ground. He works the register, and is VERY rude if you ask him any kind of question. ANY time I have brought in a garment with a stain, he said the same thing: "I can't promise we can get that out. You may want to take it to a specialist." Huh? I go to a dry cleaner because that IS my specialist to get stains out of dirty clothing... who wants to hear that every time a garment is soiled? I was given this advice about at least 5 stained garments in the few months that I used their service. Another reviewer indicated that she was told the same thing, counselled that they were doubtful about their ability to get a stain out. I guess that's useful if it happens on the rare occasion that a garment is un-treatable. But be warned, they will say this as normal course of business. He also -- twice! -- became very agitated/unprofessional because I asked him what the odds were of them being able to get a certain stain out. "I can't promise anything. You want me to promise you it'll come out," he sat there saying. No... I was just asking him to share his professional experience with me. But that didn't stop him from becoming confrontational, and -- in one case -- telling me flat out to take the item elsewhere. The fact that he became so frustrated and rude when I asked basic questions was not a good indication of his professionalism. The quality of the cleaning was decent, but not fantastic -- iterms could be pressed funny. Considering that they rarely touched my stained garments because I kept getting referred to specialists, they never did my toughest dry cleaning work, so I wouldn't be able to say they are very good. It's a shame, I think that what has happened here is that the parents ran a very good business, but the son is now running it... and probably running it into the ground. read more

Let me begin this review by stating that it is always a foolish idea for a New Yorker to go outside on New Year's weekend, as you will undoubtedly be jostled and shoved in all directions by cumbersome tourists clogging up the sidewalk. Such an unfortunate phenomenon happened to me; worse, I was shoved not only to the edge of the sidewalk, but, as fate would have it, right into a fire hydrant. And, as Murphy's Law would have it, I tore my brand-new down-filled coat on said hydrant. I was beyond livid, but fortunately, after the holiday weekend was over, I attained a degree of rationality and found my way to Hattan Cleaners. I was very concerned about the coat, since part of the tear had gone off of the seam, but the expert tailors at Hattan were undaunted. A week later, when I picked up the coat, I was incredulous-- it looked perfect! I inspected it closely, many times over, and could not discern that there had ever been a tear. I could barely believe my eyes. Everyone on staff there is very friendly, too, which is always a relief in this town. I am thrilled to have found Hattan, and will definitely go back for all my tailoring needs (and, seeing as I'm 5'3", I need tailoring quite a bit!) So, the moral of the story is: if you absolutely must go outside amongst the throngs of tourists on a holiday weekend, keep Hattan Cleaners' number handy! read more

I have had nothing but positive experiences when dealing with Hattan Cleaners. I've used them for dry cleaning (obviously), wash and fold for towels and other items like sweats and t-shirts (I hang dry all of my delicates) and even to have a bridesmaid dress altered in the bust (so obviously very minor alteration, but it fit like a glove afterwards). They are very quick and will have a one day (or even end of day) turn around on all of your clothing. Not to mention, they deliver your items directly to your building at no additional cost. Their pricing is completely reasonable, especially when you think about how much money most building's basement washers end up costing you. Why not just have someone do the labor for you and spend around the same amount? read more

I've had problems with a one or two dry cleaners in NYC. The most common is that lost and ruined expensive items are typically greeted with an unapologetic "there's nothing we can do" and complimented with an even better insistence of the fact that the item was ruined when I brought it in. Yes Mr Drycleaner, I often spend time heating up the buttons and cracking them before bringing them in. So I decided to search the ol' interpipes for a new one. Hattan Cleaners came up as very highly rated. Results were great. A little more expensive than others, however they have great attention to detail and repaired a really badly broken pair of pants - so that they looked new. I have a fairly difficult size to find in clothes all around. But when it comes to dress shirts its near impossible. Recently I purchased several shirts from a high end Men's clothing store. Although the neck and sleeves fit perfectly, the stomach area and the length of the shirts were way too big. A friend of mine told me to bring the shirts to Hattan on 3rd ave and 15 street. He told me they would alter the shirts so I could wear them more often instead of just tucked into a suit. I'm glad I did that exact thing. The shirts look great and I feel like I doubled my wardrobe while spending a quarter of the money. If you have clothes that don't fit quite right I suggest you take them to Hattan instead of blowing more cash on new clothes. read more

Last December, I needed to get a suit tailored within for a family funeral on a Tuesday. It was Saturday evening. Hattan was the only place still open. Technically they were closed but he saw that I was really in a bind and stayed open for me. How many places in NYC would do that? He meticulously took my measurements and gave me a timeframe that I worked for me (for an afternoon pickup). I got a call in the morning from them telling me it was ready for pickup. And the fit? Perfect. Another time I got paint on my corduroy jacket. Unfortunately I didn't realize until it was set in. I tried my best to get it out with no success. They told me it might not come out but they'll try anyway. Guess what? It came out. I have since moved out of the neighborhood back to Brooklyn but I still go back to him. I've never had a problem with getting my clothing cleaned properly by them (or anyone else for that matter). Over a summer I had an internship that needed me to wear a suit and tie (yuck) so I was a frequent flyer, Ben knew my name by the 2nd week I was there as soon as I walked through the doors. And it wasn't just me.. he was able to do that with most of the people that walked through the door. Who does that in this day and age? I can barely remember what I had for breakfast. But I appreciate little things like that. So the thing that sticks out in my mind is once I had to have suit pants hemmed for a wedding the next day (yes I'm very last minute). After trying several stores his was the only one that could come through for me. And he didn't charge an arm and a leg. Once in a while I strayed to a "discounted" cleaner.. It was just never quite the same. It's not that they didn't get it cleaned.. they did. But it lacks a personal connection (like going to Costco vs the neighborhood butcher for meat). I can afford to spend a few buck extra to not get herded through like cattle and be treated like a person. read more

My parents own dry cleaners, so I can be a tough customer sometimes when its comes to cleaning my clothes. These guys are great though. The shirts come back nice and well pressed (I get light starch and it's never been incorrectly done). I haven't really tested them on stain removal, but the little spots have always dealt with. -1 star for not using the most environmentally-safe solvents (silicone based products are the newest technology, primarily GreenEarth). In NYC, only ridiculously expensive places use it though. read more

Was visiting friends for the weekend during Thanksgiving and dropped by for a quick dropoff. I had previously dropped off an item thinking a 3 day turnaround would be plenty of time, but my mistake. First the price is ridiculous, and a ripoff. They tried to upcharge my garment because it was a brand. They further didn't have my garment ready, and it wasn't ready until the following week. Why try charging me for a rush job when it would've been faster to just process normally. During pickup I tried disputing the rush charge, but they gave some excuse of it being a special handling case. I didn't want to argue as there was a couple behind me, but the couple gave me a nod of the head to say they "know". Told my friend about the place, and she said that she never goes to Hattan due to a bad experience as well. Worst business ever bordering on fraud. read more
