Staples is not disability-friendly. This is a sour review for Staples, and 5-Star review for Corrick's on 4th St., downtown Santa Rosa, which ended up providing me GREAT service.
I have shopped at this neighborhood Staples regularly, since the store opened, in addition to Corrick's. Generally I have gotten good to great service at Staples.
Today was different. I am disabled, with disabled placard, have a recent painful hip injury, and have barely been able to drive, let alone get in and out of my car more than once a day, for several weeks. I couldn't wait any longer for a print cartridge, and can't drive and walk in to access my PO box to have one mailed to me. I also don't want to use my debit card online, for security reasons. Until I can arrange for help through my insurance, I'm stranded.
At other Santa Rosa stores, I've been calling from the parking lot, asking if a clerk could come help me. At every store, the managers and staff have been so nice and accommodating. I've really appreciated it.
Except for Staples on Cleveland Ave.
Yesterday, I tried calling from the parking lot. The manager on duty said they were too short-staffed on the weekend to help, and to come back today, when an employee could help at my car.
I came back today, called, and waited 10+ minutes for a person to pick up. The clerk said she'd help, then hung up or disconnected me. Waited 10 minutes for clerk to appear outside. I called again, waited 10 min. for a human. She seemed to think it was ok to put me on hold or hang up again. She also couldn't hear me. I was saying, then eventually hollering (to make sure she could hear me), "Don't hang up!"
A manager, "Chester," was outside. He came over. I asked for his help. He said neither he nor his employees could accept either cash or a debit card from me, to make the purchase. Sorry. "Nothing I can do." Just left me stranded, no workable solution, no way to print or copy materials at home. I said, "You really can do this." Nope.
I drove to Corrick's, downtown. The lovely woman on the phone Googled for the correct ink cartridge product #, was very willing to come out to the car with various ink cartridges and another item I'd requested, took my debit card in, rang it up, told me if I opened the cartridges and they weren't right, to just bring them back with my receipt, to call from my car again and they would come out to help, and they would refund or find the right product.
THAT is a store that wants my current and future business, and referrals!
From now on, I'm shopping at Corrick's first. Thanks, Corrick's! read more
