Wow, what a lack of service in the San Jose store. I'm on vacation here from west coast and stopped to get a document printed off my thumb drive. Gladys, the print rep said it would take about 1 hr for the print. Therefore I said can you print out a color copy, so I can see print before placing the order & waiting for an hour. Gladys told me it would take a half hour, She said you can get it faster in the copy area. I asked can you show me how to do that, I'm a veteran from out of town & not familiar with your system here. Gladys said just follow the prompts & it will walk you thru it. There was no other customers there when I came in print area. Another employee came over when one other customer walked up. Gladys or no one else was willing to help me. Who is the strore manager for this store?? I'd like to file this complaint! read more

I have a printer that I can print from my phone until I really need to print something and then it ...bla, bla, bla! So I go to Staples and the "printer angel"Gail helps me (a lot) to save to cloud, find and print on one of their machines! Wonderful but the question remains why would my printer not print ...welllll... yes the three colors are out but I have black ink still so what's the problem? Cameron (printer angel) explains (nicely) even printing black little bits of color are still used so need color cartridges in there too. So I bought 3 colors. The team here were great- they accepted my problem, solved it and didn't make me feel like a computer idiot! Thank you! read more

It's great to find a company that employs fantastic people with great customer service. Ms. Gail and her crew in the printing shop were integral in helping me reach deadlines through the winter season. The website does them no favors by promising quick turnaround--they're almost always at capacity and working right until the last five minutes of the day. Pricing is on par with other printing services. Wish that rewards were stronger and that teachers received a discount. That would really make it worth the extra drive time. I really like this Staples location. It is in a great location on San Jose and convenient to my home. They have a great selection of everyday office products such as paper, writing instruments, binders, tape and post its. They also have a good selection of furniture and organizational bins/accessories. I have shopped in store many time and it seems to be well stocked, well organized and the employees are friendly. I have also used the ship to store options a few times and the items arrive when promised. Ordering online is easy and convenient. If I am running short on time, I have placed orders online to pickup in store. Most items can be ready within about an hour so it is very convenient if you have a lot of errands to run or if you don't really like walking around an office supply store. Any way that I have shopped, the service has been good. They also offer shipping and printing services in store but I have not personally used them. They have good weekly sales that are released every Sunday and they have great deals especially around "back to school" season. read more

Mandarin is not the closest Staples to us but it's definitely our favorite. The women who work the print counter are knowledgeable and friendly. Gail, I believe her name was, is THE BEST. She assisted my husband in printing a pattern and helped him get that set up along with other prints we had. She's the reason we keep coming back. read more

Got a Groupon for shredding service here at Staples. $10 for 20 lbs or $5 for 10 lbs. I pre-weighed my old mail and receipts for deciding so therefore I knew I was going to need the $10 for 20 lbs of shredding coupon. Actually, I got two of them because I knew I wasn't finished with my winter spring cleaning. I get to Staples and only one person working in the section where I service and I immediately thought, I'm gonna be here forever! I stand corrected. The Staple's employee came over once she noticed me and explained the whole "shredding" process. I put shredding in quotations because neither I nor Staples does the shredding. They have a contract with Iron Mountain, as it seems with every company, to do the shredding. The employee explained that we just put my items in the slot of the oversized trash can and IM comes and hauls it off. The trash can is locked with a pad lock in which Staples does not have the key too. And as I mentioned, "we" put my items in because, as the employee was explaining to me, Staples does not allowed their employees to do it on their own because of customer privacy. Staples said that anyone can look at the information inserted into the slot so they leave that part up to the customer. She said that she's allowed to help me if I asked for it. I told her I can handle this in my own and she can help someone else. I felt more comfortable doing it alone anyway. Not to mention, as I was putting old mail into the slot, I noticed something I wanted to keep. So all in all, it was a win-win situation. I was able to maintain my privacy and I was able to double check my own work by inserting old mail into the slot myself and it is so convenient because Staples is everywhere and they open from morning until night. And by the way, I ended up with 21 lbs of material so I just had to pay .79¢. I'm saving the other Groupon for my next spring cleaning. Excellent deal! Well worth it! read more

Ugh this store is so understaffed. It takes forever to check out or get any help here. I did entire store loop today looking for a couple standard items and I did not see 1 salesperson on the floor. Whenever I try to run a quick errand this Staples location takes way longer than necessary (not to mention every employee is miserable.) read more

I am normally a Staples fan but after this last experience at the San Jose store I am not sure. I purchased a printer there 5 weeks ago. I know the warrantee is 2 weeks on electronics but the printer is broken and I felt they should exchange it for one that works. The manager I spoke with said he was unable to override the system and do that. I then asked about a laptop that was on sale on line. It was not showing on sale in the store. Even though the ad did not say online only, he told me I needed to buy it online, wait an hour, and come back to get it. I called another Staples store and she said that if the price is different they price matched. Needless to say I am driving to the other staples store where I can buy the laptop at the advertised price without having to wait an hour. read more

I hate to do this because I have not had trouble here before. It is 5:50 p.m. on July 18. I stood at the print desk with a basket of shredding for 15 minutes. Another lady waited there too. The bearded cash register attendant across the store said "someone will be there in a minute," but when I finally walked out he said, "Sorry, she went to lunch." Better if they just hang out a sign and be honest. I'm Office Depot bound I guess. read more

It's your basic Staples store.... and I like how the ceiling is super big and there are plenty of signs to point you in the direction which you are looking to go. We picked up some speciality paper for a project we are working on.... and found some nice options, fairly quickly and everything that we needed. It was $10 to have 2 papers laminated. Initially did not get help printing my 2 papers. Manager had attitude. Proceeded to make me wait an HOUR when only one woman was in there before me. Helped a man who came in after me bc they messed his papers up from a previous day. The other woman's papers were messed up too! Had to wait for hers to be fixed. Then the manager of the copy center, sent her trainee to tell me it was going to be another 20 minutes. WHAT? Because "they had to turn the lamination machine on." WHAT? I come to this location regularly as my wife loves coming here for her love of stationary and pens (hey, it's cheaper than jewelry.) Whenever I come in, the store is always dead. That's not a bad thing mind you, but its comfortable because I hate crowds. The store is well organized and the staff are always so friendly and helpful, but they aren't overbearing either. You'll get a hello when you come in, and if you are passing by someone in an aisle maybe a "can I help?" but it's nice not to be bothered. Prices and selection are good. You'll find fun office supplies, and a great selection on pens and other standards naturally along with other office products. I mean, c'mon it's Staples, you know what you're getting there. The only negative I find consistently is that they have computer/network problems. I've been there when they couldn't take credit/debit cards and I was there yesterday and they couldn't look up rewards accounts. I don't know what that's about, but it's generally a minor hassle. read more

A whole aisle of big bulky 10 key calculators ? 2 aisles of huge 400-800 dollar scanners ? Com port cables?? this place needs some revamping... it is not the 1990s anymore.. My needs were simple, the price on what I needed was decent, but my shopping experience was just "shock and awe". I understand needing to make a profit, but wow. Some stuff was stupid high priced. To their credit they did have new Ipads and some modern stuff, but some of the electronics were outdated tech.... they need some new signage that spoofs high tech.. some flat screen displays.... up in the cloud and some bright blue colors to counter the feel of a warehouse... plus a bit of techno music in the background to energize the feel of the place.. They do carry a very wide variety of office supplies for your average use, but when white cables start to yellow... take them off the shelf... this store could very easily be updated... the overall feeling was a bit old school...
