The lady that called back was not any better in customer service. She tried to tell me there will be a charge for retinal imaging. I tried to explain to her I have VSP premiere and they are listed as a premiere edge provider which states as of January 2025 there is no longer an exam fee or a retinal fee. See pictures attached. She went on reading to me about how it's covered if you have diabetes only. Completely overlooking that they are listed as a premier edge provider and must be providing certain services free of charge. Apparently they have been charging these fees to people because she wanted to argue with me and was standing firm. We took our business to Eye-Q in Fresno.

I asked that they be replaced with the same prescription I already had for reading with no change to the distance. They asked me back to check the glasses, and did an eye exam. They then billed me outside of my insurance for that exam since I'd just had a covered exam from the first, incorrect pair. The actual eye doctor was good, and the exam for my 6-year-old son went well. We were told his eyes were healthy and that he did not need glasses. However, immediately afterward, the manager contradicted this by saying my son would need glasses for an astigmatism--something the doctor never mentioned. When I asked for clarification, the manager said he'd be back in a minute, then proceeded to spend over 15 minutes chatting casually with an off-the-clock coworker. While waiting, I picked up a retail pair of blue-light glasses for my son, clearly marked at $24.99. When I went to pay for the exam and glasses, everything turned into a confusing mess. I never received a clear explanation of why my son supposedly needed glasses. The exam was supposed to be $10 with insurance, but I was then charged an undisclosed $39 retinal scan fee that was never explained or offered as optional before the appointment. To make matters worse, the staff told me that if I didn't use my "full benefits," I would lose them--but no one could explain why or how that worked. Typically, front office staff in a medical setting are knowledgeable about insurance and billing. That was clearly not the case here. The staff and manager seemed uninterested in helping or working with customers. The entire experience felt like a push to upsell unnecessary services and products under the guise of insurance benefits. Overall, this place feels disorganized, misleading, and unprofessional. I would not recommend this practice to anyone.
