Let's all gather 'round for a truly enlightening tale of modern convenience gone terribly wrong, starring Staton Optical - Fair Oaks. My husband and I thought we'd be proactive and take care of some much-needed eye exams, along with picking up two pairs of glasses. Simple enough, right? Well, upon arrival, we were told that surprise, there was no optometrist onsite. You see, instead of a real, human eye doctor, we were treated to the "delightful" experience of a virtual exam... conducted by some far-off, presumably mystical optometrist who was not, in fact, in the store with us. "Okay," we thought, "maybe this is the new wave. Trust the process." Fast forward to picking up our glasses, and wouldn't you know it? Both prescriptions were wrong. The "everyday use" pair was a no-go from the get-go--after 48 hours, he still couldn't wear them for more than a few minutes without his eyes staging a rebellion. And the "computer" pair? After a full 8-hour workday? A complete joke. Naturally, we head back to the store for a refund. They "graciously refunded" the two glasses but (shocker) they kept the $115 for their VIRTUAL "eye examination" and the extra $79 for something they bill as "OCT Evaluation." A quick reminder: none of these fees actually helped us get the right prescriptions, but hey, we're apparently paying for the privilege of their incompetence. So, here's the gist: Staton Optical - Fair Oaks is happy to charge you for bad service, bad products, and a complete waste of your time (4 hours of our time and $194.00 wasted on useless exams). At this point, I'd recommend you trust the process of going anywhere else. Just got a call advising that my classes that I went to pick up last week because I was told they were ready and when I got there, they couldn't find them and told me that they had gone to Toledo, OH - oh no, guess what, they didn't arrive in Toledo either‍! They have reordered them and they should arrive in another "few weeks". I asked to speak to the manager who told me that UPS tracking showed they were delivered to Toledo but their Toledo store says they did not get them. OKAY - mistakes happen. I can live with that. What annoys me is no apology from the manager. Not so much as a " so sorry for your inconvenience", or "what can I do to help ease the situation?" From the beginning , not offering and pretending they had no idea about their constantly advertised deal at the time, to the eye exam to the 6 months it took me to get my glasses and contacts after paying for them. They weren't cheaper, they weren't honest and they were 5 and a half months late on my purchase . No apologies and no discounts or incentives provided for their horrible service. Stanton is the factory farm for eye care, at least this location. The building has seen better days, both inside and out, but truly the eye exam department here is a mess. Your exam will be completed by a remote doctor speaking to you from a call center that you can hear in the background during your entire exam. Having experienced this 3 times, the outcome is entirely random, and the language/accent/nrtwork lag barrier with the tele health provider is a major issue to a productive outcome. But truly the biggest decline I've seen is in the care of the on site staff who assist with these call center eye exams. I have rarely seen staff so unconcerned with their job, their customers, or even their other sullen and disaffected colleagues. It's a race to the bottom at this Stanton location. I called another eye doctor literally from the waiting area at Stanton, today, and got faster, better service at the same price and convenience. I'm home now with my new contacts and prescription from a local doctor whose entire staff each showed more professionalism than the entire Stanton operation combined. read more

This review started out as a 1, however, based upon the exemplary customer service provided in response to my first experience, it is being raised to a 5. I decided to purchase glasses from a provider other than my eye doctor's office, using the prescription provided by my doctor, and chose Stanton Optical for this new experience. In a nutshell, my initial experience ended up being focused on making the sale, not making the glasses correctly in alignment with my prescription parameters. When realized, I returned to the store 2 days later to discuss the missing, but necessary, components, and what the "fix" would be. That is when I had the pleasure of being assisted by Tamar. She understood the seriousness of the oversights, was sincerely apologetic, and went above and beyond to correct the errors so that the glasses I receive will actually be functional. If you find yourself at Stanton in Fair Oaks, seek out Tamar for a comprehensive experience - knowledge and understanding of the variable components inherent to optical prescriptions and an absolute customer-centric approach. The service was very good very helpful very nice however, the place was so filthy. I could write my name in the dust at the front counter. All glasses were cloudy. She made an excuse that they sanitize them after every use but hard to believe because while you're sanitizing them, you can wipe off the fingerprints I couldn't wait to get out of there and go wash my face. I hope I don't catch anything and I hope that I have the right prescription but the sanitation is almost unacceptable it should be inspected by corporate, filthy filthy filthy, and I'm not exaggerating. read more

The frames, lens, options and ROBERT the "store associate/salesperson" was CHEF'S KISS!! That part of my experience there couldn't have been any better! The young man who tested me initially was awesome! He explained everything to me EXCEPT for the HYBRID/REMOTE EXAM...IT WAS THEE WORSE and lemme tell you why: I was ushered into this dark exam room by one of the staff- tells me to sit down in the examination chair and puts the examination apparatus over my eyes then leaves the room- i look to the right an there's this woman on a computer screen! I'm like "wth is happening here??" She begins by playing a video that describes how all of this is going to work-REMOTELY. SO she begins the exam, everything is ok with my right eye but when she goes to the left eye I can't see anything! It's SUPER BLURRY- at one point I tell her I think something is on this left lens because if I move my head slightly- i can find a "clear" spot to read the letters- She blew that off by telling me "I'm making it intentionally blurry- can you recognize any of the letters?" I cannot. She proceeds to the end of the first part of the test and tells me to "relax". When I sit back in my chair THERES A BIG THUMB PRINT SMUDGE ON THE LEFT LENS!! THEY NEVER CLEANED IT FROM THE LAST EXAM!! By now another young lady- different from the first-petite, glasses, long dark hair clipped up- comes in while I'm telling the lady on the screen : "I told you there was something on this lens and those results are NOT ACCURATE!" I asked the young lady in the room to please take a look- and she did and immediately apologized and cleaned the lenses! She asked the AI lady on the screen could she run another test because this one wouldn't be accurate- She said "NO". WHAT DO YOU MEAN "NO"?? It was at that point that the young lady in the room gave me the test a second time from beginning to end! And of course the results were remarkably different!! I must sing praises to this young lady for taking the initiative and time to do the right thing! She made an "executive decision" to turn the computer screen off, clean the lenses and perform the test manually like a in-house Optometrist would have. Kudos to her!! Give her a promotion AND a raise!! All in all, Stanton Optical has been where I have gotten my glasses over the years and have worn them until the "wheels fell off" and finally had to get another pair lol! They ain't "cheap" tho- REASONABLE is a better word- I got two pair of "green dot" frames,(I love them! They are PERFECT, and the sales associate guy was cute to boot!) a "Blue blocker" for glare and some other stuff PLUS the exam- $530.00 out the door!! I'm really pleased! Only thing is I hafta wait two weeks for them to come in when the ones I'm wearing are literally being held together with nai/super glue lol. Lastly, throw that HYBRID/REMOTE/AI exam in the TRASH! I purchased my fiancé 2 pairs of scratch resistant subscription glasses and a full eye exam as an early wedding gift, because his were scratched and due for a new subscription. And so I thought why not give the gift of health!? The best part? He said he trusted me and let me pick out the frames, very exciting for us woman to do for our men te-he! So of course I had to go with a snazzy Black pair by Maxim that would look great in our wedding photos and a nice Black Red pair by Aura for work to match his uniform! Both look very handsome or dare I say sexy on him and he feels confident and happy about my choices for him! I lost my glasses and needed another pair immediately as I am not able to drive or work without them. I understand I could not reasonably expect this, but I was hoping for a miracle as I was desperate. I came to this location and the first gentleman that helped me on 5/14 was great. Very informative and it was a fast process, he told me I would have my glasses ready for pickup by 10 am the next morning. I was honestly pleasantly surprised that I could have glasses that quickly, but he ensured me they would be ready which was great news. I came back at 12 pm the next day to ensure extra time for their team. I even called ahead to ask if they were ready, as I drove over on my lunch break so I needed to make sure I wouldn't be late. the representative I called confirmed they were ready for pickup. I even asked "so if I go right now, they will be ready?" And she confirmed yes. I arrived at 12 and the representative told me they weren't ready, because they had 80 pairs of glasses they were working on. There was no apology given. I tried to ask if there was a mix up, as the other representative I called just now said they were ready? And the lady proceeded to give me an answer, that honestly didn't make any sense to me. She did say she would bump my glasses to the front of the line, and work on them immediately. I appreciated that. She had them done in probably 10 minutes flat. I drove here on my lunch break so the false expectation was very off putting as I was on a time crunch. Unless you have an abundance of free time and don't mind being treated like cattle, don't come here. It took nearly 2 hours to get a contact lens prescription WITH an appointment. Almost half an hour of waiting was just to pay for my prescription after the exam was completed. Not only that, a doctor never came out to discuss the change in my prescription. I was able to contact the store the next day and the store manager Robert called me back immediately, admitted they made a mistake. Before scheduling our appointment, I called ahead to confirm they accepted our insurance. I made it very clear that we were coming in only for an eye exam and a prescription, not to purchase glasses or contacts. The associate on the phone assured me they accepted our insurance. When we arrived, I asked again at the front desk and received the same confirmation. I even confirmed once more prior to the eye exam, and was again told they would bill our insurance. Throughout the visit, we were assisted by an associate named Robert, who assured us multiple times that they took our insurance. However, every time we offered to provide our insurance information, he dismissed it, saying, "We'll take it at the end." After the exam, when we declined to purchase any glasses and asked to proceed with the insurance billing, we were suddenly informed that they did not accept our insurance at all. At that point, Robert became dismissive, rude, and disrespectful, and the staff overall became evasive and unwilling to take responsibility. We were handed off from one person to another, with each providing conflicting information. The entire experience felt manipulative and unethical, as if we were misled intentionally to ensure payment after the exam was completed. I would not recommend Stanton Optical to anyone seeking honest, transparent service or ethical business practices. TALK ABOUT BAIT AND SWITCH! today I had the worst experience ever at Stanton optical in fair oaks. CA. I get emails from them for "deals" constantly so I unfortunately tried them. I spent nearly 2 hours doing the exam and finding 2 pairs of glasses I liked for the $79 deal they are offering, before reading the tiny color coded sticker prices that no one working there told me about (I happen to find the small color coded fine print right before checking out) but I should have known considering they didn't even greet us when we walked in. turns out the 2 pairs and an eye exam for $79 is complete false advertisement. for the two pairs and an eye exam they wanted almost $500. and that's with insurance. they claimed I had a difficult prescription and I can assure you I have one of the most basic prescriptions there is. the test is done virtual you cant understand the "optometrist". truly awful experience and such a waste of time and money. ended up leaving with just my prescription for $79 since I spent so much time there. and after reading these reviews I'm worried my prescription is not correct now. if it didn't irritate me so much I'd laugh. you would honestly think this was a crappy college with the lack of knowledge and inexperience with customer service. read more

Just wanted to make it clear that it was not until I contacted the BBB and received a call from the Stanton Regional Manager that the partial refund, I initially requested from the site manager was issued. The Regional Manager was very professional and courteous, and I appreciated her assistance with the partial refund. As for the site manager at the Fair Oaks, CA location, if she is still there, she should consider a refresher course on customer service and standard business ethics. We were told my dad's glasses would be ready in two weeks, but it took over a month, despite repeated follow-ups. When the glasses finally arrived, they made no noticeable improvement to his vision. He expressed his concerns and questioned what he was actually paying for. After requesting a refund due to the ineffectiveness of the glasses, they only issued a partial refund and still charged a $30 fee. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. I called and rescheduled my apt again with a live representative for same time and received confirmation text. So I continued driving only to be told upon my arrival that all apts are cancelled and they would not let anyone into the store.
