Dr. Camille Weissenberg performed a very thorough eye exam and listened to my concerns for eye health, weird floaters, and cataracts. Dr Weissenberg explained everything in clear and easy to understand terms. As a 74 year old with minor cataracts forming, I had many questions and fears. They are a very very busy office and customer service has suffered as a result. It takes over a month to get an appointment and then they do not place calls to remind their patients. So if you miss your appointment, it will take another five to six weeks to get in. Through the optometrists are very kind and congenial, the staff is not and they make no apologies for their lack of client care and unavailability to make appointments for repeat clients within a short timeframe. I switched to another optometrist and they won't miss me or care at all. read more

Myopic Yelpers rejoice! Dr. Umeda takes VSP insurance. I made sure to get my eyes checked as well as an extra pair of glasses before my COBRA ran out. This office in Fair Oaks (on Sunset by San Juan Ave) has a very personable vibe to it. You get the whole shebang when you get a check up. The only thing I can't stand is that glaucoma test when the horrible machine blasts air onto your pupils. I actually signed a waiver once (different optometrist) because I can't stand that test. Yes folks, I would rather risk having glaucoma than doing that test. (It reminds me of how you would feel if you were going to be shot via firing squad. You know it's coming, you just don't know when!). Dr. Umeda is very patient, answers any questions you have and takes time to be with each and every client. The magazines are up to date (very important) and they even have a little "kids corner" for those w/ children. Thankfully my eyesight hasn't changed for the past seven years and I will have some very cool looking tortoise-shell Banana Republic frames soon. Can't wait! read more

My daughter and I saw Dr. Umeda and we were extremely pleased. He is kind and patient. He genuinely listened to us, engaged each of us in a great conversations making us feel very comfortable. His entire staff were very warm and inviting. All were so very helpful. My daughter's glasses arrived quicker than any other optometrist we've been to, they are perfect. I got contacts and met with him for a few follow up appts. to make sure they were going to work for me. When I arrived for my second appt. I was greeted by the staff by name like I was a friend. Note - this is a review based upon the excellent cutomer service. I called to see if my insurance was accepted here. The receptionist Haley was amazing. She couldn't find me in the system. She then reached out to my insurance, found out I wasn't in their network. She called me back explaining the details within an hour. She was beyond helpful and an all around great person. I am forever loyal to Dr's Umeda and Lau. I've been a patient for over 10 years. I left for a while due to a change in my insurance. However, I am back - even though they are "out of network" for me. The quality of their work - never rushed, always thorough, accurate, educating with clear explanations, and a calm, comforting manner - is worth paying for the services myself. We only have one pair of eyes!! I've gone to other local doctors and vision care providers. NONE compare. I am preparing to move out of state - yet I will stay with these wonderful doctors and arrange appointments when I come to see family! They really ARE that remarkable. I have worn contacts since I was eleven years old and now in my thirties I can see better than I ever have before because of the time Dr. Umeda took to figure out which contacts are best for me. I have different astigmatisms in both eyes and had resigned myself to never seeing clearly. After two visits, Dr. Umeda figured out exactly the brand and prescription I needed in each eye. I am so grateful to be able to see clearly. He is also one of the nicest people I have met. Very sincere, calm, and helpful. The office is small and clean. The front desk people are nice and helpful. Great eye doctor!! He genuinely cares about his patients. He takes the time needed to get the job done right. My husband has type 1 Diabetes and requires special eye care and Dr. Umeda has been wonderful with him and very thorough! Our entire family goes to Dr. Umeda and his colleague, Dr. Lau. I just was politely kicked out of this optometry office for looking at frames. I visited the office as my family and I need eye exams and eyeglasses. Since the office is very close to my home, I decided to drop in to look at their frame selection. I was there for about ten minutes when an employee asked my to make an appointment with an optician to discuss eyeglasses. I told her I just needed to look at frames and if I found several that interested me I would make an appointment for an exam and eyeglass purchase. This was not acceptable to the employee so I left never to return. There is no reason to believe the doctors are anything less than competent and professional. The office doesn't understand the retail component to the business. read more
