Have to agree with other reviews. The optical center leaves much to be desired in the service dept. Had a new Dr this last visit and that was fine, quick and painless. I've been coming here for at least 5 years, and normally it's been great--but my last two visits? Not so much. I ordered Rx sunglasses and didn't get the original lenses. Was told they don't do that, which confused me because I've been getting the original lenses along side my Rx lenses for the previous 3 sunglass orders. Most recently, when I went to pick up my glasses, they couldn't find the case. I got handed a generic one that didn't even fit properly. Ask for another one, and they tried to hand me a soft sided case. And a lens wipe? Nope. "We don't do that anymore," I was told. The office used to give you a bag, a small bottle of lens cleaner, and a fresh lens wipe-felt like a little gift each time. Not sure if it's tariffs or what, but something's changed. read more

The customer service used to be great but something changed in the last year or so. It used to be that when I picked up a new pair of glasses, I would be sat to try them on, be sure they fit, were comfortable and that I was seeing correctly. I scheduled an appointment with this center. Confirm the appointment via text messages as they sent many of them for your confirmation of your appointment. The morning of mine and my son's appointment I get a phone call stating that they set mine and my son's appointment aside because I wouldn't pick up the phone during the week to confirm my appointment. I asked if confirming via text message numerous times wasn't sufficient and where did it say that I had to answer a phone call in order to keep my appointment she said that that wasn't written anywhere, but that I was no longer part of their full schedule. I explained that I had missed work i for this appointment and she said sorry you were both set aside. I can schedule you another time. I don't think that they take into consideration that individuals may not be able to answer the phone based on the type of work they do and I don't understand why so many text messages are sent for confirmation of your appointment if that's not sufficient. Never had an opportunity to actually go into the facility, but I don't recommend this place for the lack of respect of someone's time. I give zero ratings for this Eye Center. read more

Very friendly staff, but I was so frustrated for not getting what I asked for, I just had to leave. I went to this location because it is very close to my office. I wanted to get a pair of reading glasses. The doctor talked me into readers on the bottom and "computer" readers on the top. I agreed to try them out. The "Computer" readers didn't work for me since my monitors sit too far back to make them usable. With my profession, I have to have my monitors set back due to work plans. I came back in and requested clear, no prescription, on top, and readers on the bottom. Upon picking them up, there's still a prescription on the top. They are useless to me in my office setting. Do they get paid more to have more prescriptions? I'm just going to eat the cost and go somewhere that will do what I ask. Update: If I could give a half star I would. I received a reply from Jolene, the name changed to Carla. I messaged back asking to please call me and I gave my name and number so I didn't have to try and track down the person that I really needed to talk to. My recent experience with the Gold River. EYEcenter Optometric I give 2 stars. The receptionist and the doctors are great, however their retail optical services leave a lot to be desired. My purchase took 5 weeks to arrive. I was encouraged by a call I received from the company's corporate office who listened to my concerns and offered a resolution to my issue. I wish I had read the reviews before my visit. On the positive side, the doctor was very personable and performed a thorough exam. I was told my co-pay would be $75, which I paid at the time of service. There was no mention that parts of the exam might not be covered or that there will be more $ to pay. Four months later, I received a bill for $250! Trying to resolve the issue has been frustrating--customer service is nearly impossible to reach due to an unhelpful automated system. read more

Dear fellow Yelp users, I want to share my recent experience at the EYEcenter Optometric Gold River office and warn everyone to avoid doing business with them. My daughter was fitted for Ortho-K lenses at the EYEcenter Folsom office, and the doctor told me that the lenses can be used for about one and a half years and can be adjusted later on when needed. Additionally, replacement lenses only require a small fee. I also confirmed this information with the store manager, who assured me that she will give a good discount on replacement lenses when we come back next year. She said the ongoing cost including replacement lenses, and follow-up exams would cost a few hundred dollars a year in total. However, last week, when my husband went to get a pair of replacement lenses for my daughter, he was charged the full price of $1200 for the replacement lens itself, and there was an additional diagnosis cost of $412. When he arrived home, we immediately called to cancel the order, but the office informed us that there is a $200 restocking fee, even though we had just left the office a few hours prior, and the lenses were being ordered and wouldn't be ready for one or two weeks. This experience has left us feeling frustrated and disappointed, as we were given misleading information about the ongoing costs of the lenses and replacement lenses. Furthermore, the office's restocking fee policy seems unreasonable and unfair, given the circumstances. I want to warn everyone to be cautious when doing business with the EYEcenter Optometric, as their practices seem unethical and misleading. Please do your research and consider other options before trusting this business with your eye care needs. I am very disappointed with Palmer Lee. My glasses prescription were way off from my 2021 prescription. I asked one of the lady in the office about it and even showed her my 2021 prescription, she was surprised and wanted me to wait for Palmer Lee for another eye exam. I kindly declined as I had other plans. I denied the retinal imaging but asked for dilation and did not receive it. All and all, Palmer Lee wasn't attentive to details and lacked knowledge. I don't recommend anyone coming here for eye exams. read more

I wanted the option to actually touch the frames instead of having to stand beyond an imaginary line at my previous optometrist's office, unable to handle frames myself. EYEcenter in Rancho allowed me to do just this! And their selection is very good. More importantly, 2 people in particular stand out - Corina has been extremely helpful on multiple occasions, informing me about certain warranties I did not know I had. She has been very patient with me, 'the princess and the pea', when it comes to eyeglass adjustments. And Radi is so very friendly and un-hurried at the front desk. The 1 star review (in line with several of the reviews here) is solely based on working with the technicians that help you select frames and offer/sell products such as transition lens, progressive lenses and the anti-glare reflective coating. I have Medicare and therefore the eye exam is paid for, NOT glasses. So I did expect to pay for my glasses, but not total sticker shock! With the transition lens, charges were over $700! So I opted to leave out the transition lens, the female tech said that would take about $150 off. However, the bill was finally printed & I was being charged $105 for reflective coating! Bottom line? When I asked about it the tech simply said, "oh you didn't want reflective coating"? Then proceeded to tell me why it was important. When I got home, I did some research and ended up cancelling my eye glass order with ECO. I had my RX sent to me and went to Costco Optometric. Got Comparable frames, progressive RX, transition lens and OH Yeah, the reflective coating is standard, no charge! All for $268 including transition lens!! Saving about $450 from my original package at ECO with transition lenses. Great eye doctors here, BTW, but the glasses way overpriced and the techs are not transparent about all the costs read more

I heard about EYEcenter Optometric in Gold River through word of mouth and have been coming here for several years now. I have yet to have a bad experience. They are located right next to Adalbertos in the old 24 Hour Fitness shopping area. I absolutely LOVE their large selection of frames and sunglasses; I refuse to go to other eye doctors who are much closer to me because of their selection and service. Their eye exams are top notch. They perform various ones on you (e.g. eye pressure test, retinal imaging, etc.) before the doctor actually performs his exam to make sure your eyes are healthy and to detect any abnormalities. I had an eye appointment this month and have a very minimal eye prescription. I wanted sunglasses and the doctor recommended I add my RX to them. I picked them up the other day and absolutely hated having the RX in them. I haven't worn anything with a RX in probably close to 15 years. The RX was giving me a headache and I didn't like how heavy the frames felt from the weight of the lenses. I went back to EYEcenter Optometric the same day and they gladly exchanged my sunglasses for non-RX/Plano ones. I really liked how they didn't give me a hard time or push back. In my experience with them, they are easy to work with and will go the extra mile to make sure you are happy with the services they provide you. I also appreciate that they have a decent selection of kid's frames and that the ones they have are really nice. If they don't have a frame in their office, they will order one for you. read more

I am disappointed in EyeCenter Optometric. Discussions re payments have been obtrusive, off center, and slow to rectify. The pleasant scheduler assured me that my insurance covered the visit. At my appointment a month later, a clerk came into the consultation and interrupted the doctor to say that my insurance did not cover anything and I would have to pay it all, or I could leave. I had read my policy and knew my insurance covered medical checkups for the eyes. Shaken, I said I'd pay if the insurance didn't cover it. The clerk noted in writing that the co-pay was $39. By the end of the visit, they knew the co-pay was $20, which I paid in cash that day. They would bill my insurance for the rest. Two identical bills arrived on the same day, asking me to pay $78. I talked to the insurance rep who said that the insurance had paid for everything, so after my unsuccessful attempt to reach the billing office, I tossed the bill. The next month I again got two identical bills on the same day, asking me to pay $78. I talked to the insurance and the billing offices. The pleasant billing clerk at one point said I hadn't paid the co-pay (but I had a receipt) and, multiple times on different days, said that the extra was for the prescription. But I didn't get a prescription. I had told the doctor that I didn't need tests leading to glasses. The doctor had replied that refraction is how they tell if your eyes are ok, but he understood and didn't provide a prescription. The insurance rep notified the company that it was billing more than Medicare allows. After another go-round and my alerting them that I had drafted this review, the billing clerk left me a voice message that they were cancelling the charge "of $39" "this time." Later we clarified that my account balance was now 0. She said that no insurance will pay for a refraction, so they want the patient to pay that $78. No matter if the insurance company paid the allowable amount for the refraction. More troubling than the amount is the changing, unsettling, and inaccurate information coming from the billing office and, during my visit, with those concerned with payment. With all good wishes for this practice, life is too short to continue there. I sent the above information, with more details, to the practice, hoping that what happened was a mistake. hi-ya! I been a couple of times and find that Dr. Lee is really good at what he does. He's patient, methodical about his exam and explained things clearly. I didn't realize I had an issue--as I was seeing double of things (here and there), but it had been going on for such a long time and I typically chalked it up to my eyes being tired from staring a monitor--however he identified it with the right questions and has been finding solutions to help alleviate the issue. The office is clean and for the most part the non-doctor staff are reasonable/attentive enough. I haven't had any exams with the other doctors, but Dr. Lee is a great go-to. Overall 5 stars for service, professionalism and convenience (I showed up late too, but they still got me in). read more

A friend of mine recommended this place and let me start off by saying, I WILL NEVER COME BACK AGAIN. I had an appointment scheduled for May 29, 2020 @ 1:20PM. I arrived ON TIME, checked in ON TIME, and still waited about 30-40 minutes to be walked back to a room. Needless to say I was annoyed by this. The girl who walked me back was pleasant however. The doctor had me try the 1-Day contact lenses as I was already using the 2-Week acuvue oasys. He gave me a trial package for the 1-Day contact lenses and sent me off to a sales associate who tried convincing me to buy my contact lenses through them. I usually get my contacts from Costco (for obvious reasons) but still asked for prices to match! I figured I was better off still purchasing from Costco considering the price differences. When I asked for my prescription the sale associate told me to try the trial lenses first and THEN they would give me my prescription. WTF? WHY? Keep in mind, this was not a FREE EXAM. I said fine, I left with the trial lenses and called back two days later asking for my prescription. They said the doctor was so busy I might get it that same night or the following Monday. TODAY IS WEDNESDAY AND GUESS WHAT? STILL NO PRESCRIPTION. If you want to fight over your prescription, this is the place for you! However, if you just need an eye exam and a prescription ASAP to move the hell on with the day DO NOT COME HERE. It felt as if they forcefully wanted me to spend my money with them but like, it's my damn money and I will spend it where I see fit! I cant stand places like this, I will just go back to Costco for all of my eye care needs. read more

This is a great eye place. My eyes are my worst feature... they move all around and are weird. I started to hate them, but Dr. Coen, Carissa, and Marie, along with a nice blonde lady whose name escapes me, all banded together to help me learn how to use contacts. Very negative Staff at the location entered my glasses order wrong so I got the wrong glasses when I went to pick them up the first time, had to wait an additional 2 weeks for my glasses. During and after the eye examinations with my wife, staff left the exam room door open so we could hear other staff members talking about us in a negative way even using some curse words when they were out of the room we were in. I tried to pick up the glasses and I couldn't, on the door the store displays current operating hours, in detail mentioning that they are open on Saturday, they are NOT, false advertisement! I tried to pick my glasses up the next business day, checked 2 days before if they will be open, yet again I get info from online they will be, when I wanted to pick up my glasses again, for staff training they were closed yet again, further not allowing me to pick up my glasses. I went to pick up my glasses again for the 3rd time and ended up instead asking for a refund, the store is managed by an incompetent manager who does a lot of fake smiling around the store at everyone but not an actual good job, either at training staff to put orders in correct, to even changing the current open hours displayed in huge letters on the front of the store. I highly recommend to stay away, letting all my family, friends and colleagues also know to avoid this store. read more

Very professional from the minute you walk in the door to when you receive your eyewear. I needed prescription sunglasses and regular vision glasses, and I ended up purchasing the two styles picked out for me by the staff. Took about a week and a half to receive my glasses. Unfortunately there was a small miscommunication as to which pair was meant to be my sunglasses and which were regular vision, but they quickly remedied the situation. I went here because my eyeballs were causing me a situation. The eyeballs doctor was straight legit, had a real cool relaxed demeanor, and gave it to me straight. Now, when I use my glasses on my eyeballs, they focus better. I see words and details I missed before like the fuzz on a bee or my dogs unhealthy gums. This place is an absolute scam. Do NOT do business with these scammers. I was told I would receive a $150 rebate with my contacts (which is why I opted to get them). Nothing was given to me. I was told to speak with Tara Wirgler (an optician). She basically told me that I was given incorrect information, and it is what it is. She told me she would let the manager know. Not helpful. This is the 3rd year that I have been scammed out of my rebate, or alleged rebate. Last year I was given an email address that nobody ever responded to. We sent multiple emails, but didn't receive a single reply. The year before that one we sent all the proper paperwork in, heard from nobody, received a reply from nobody, and received absolutely nothing. How on earth are these rebate scams still in existence? read more

To start off i go there early it took them thirty minutes to actually take me back. Finally doing all these exams the lady is just tell me go here and doesn't explain how to do anything i had to figure out my self. after that was done i wait for the doctor which was another 15 min then he gets there and tells me my prescription hasn't changed much and doesn't even do further work til i ask too. then i did more eye exams finally at the end i had wanted contact i had to pay a 60 dollar co pay for contact then 45 for the exam. so 100 dollars just spent with having insurance. then i stigma and he gave me very big contact which were very itchy and irritating my eyes and i did not want them. When i expressed this the front desk lady said it's because i have a stigma and have to wear these when i know i don't i have had contacts before no problem. but let me tell you how much these contact are 1000 dollars for only 6 months then i have to pay that again when i run out. that is insane! so when i asked to get what i had before they got mad and i still have to pay 300 dollars out of pocket for these but i still haven't gotten any testers . I will not be coming back to this place that's for sure it's more about selling the high prices things instead of what beneficial for the patient. read more

This is the third Optometrist I have seen since moving to Sacramento. The first one kept telling me every year that my eyes hadn't changed. The second one over corrected my prescription last year rendering my contact lens prescription unusable. This time I went with this office based on a recommendation from a friend. I have had little to no wait each time I have been in. The doctor was patient and thorough in finding the right prescription and even advised that I didn't need a prism correction after all (which my previous doctor had given me last year). I had really begun to think that my eyes were getting horrifically worse, and that soon I'd be unable to get eyewear to correct my vision. I feel so much more at ease now that I have finally gotten a contact lens prescription I can use and the staff was thorough in providing excellent customer service. These guys are the bomb! I was very impressed with their knowledge, technology, and service. The VA at Mather couldn't take me, so they referred me to them. I got the retinal scan, prescription, and good ideas on next set of glasses and contacts. I haven't worn contacts in 15 years out of concerns how it makes my eyes feel. Ask for Palmer Lee and Trish Locey. Now I'm off to ride 100 miles up at Lake Tahoe! Good stuff, I highly recommend. If you're a veteran or regular Joe, they are the right fit for you! Excellent Dr., (I had Dr. Coen), unfortunately, front-end staff, or more specifically the person who assists you in looking at and/or purchasing the glasses, (I think her name is Tricia?), is more than a challenge to deal with, to the point of being rude. She was pleasant enough when I was looking for the glasses, but she seemed overly concerned with me making a purchase. I have very good insurance and instead of her breaking down the 3 or 4 specific costs relating to my prescription, she was like, "Here's the price, do you want to buy them?" Not having been to an optometrist in a while, I just said yes, and purchased them. It was later, after I had gotten home did I realize how rushed I had felt. So I was told 7 to 10 days and my glasses would be in and that they would send me a text. That was on the 10th of May. So I call on the 21st, and then they change it to, "Oh, it take anywhere from 10 to 14 days"! Huh? Which one is it? Nothing annoys me more than when you order something and they give you a date range. 7-10 days? Ok. So I call at the end of the 10 days and now it's 10-14 days? Why do some businesses do that? Just take responsibility and say "Hey, sorry, we promised you this time period and we didn't deliver. Our fault. How can we make it up?" Not any longer, unfortunately. But I digress. So the receptionist says she'll check real quick, just to be sure, after I informed her that I was originally told that it would only be 7 to 10 days. So she gets back on the phone and now, magically, my glasses will be in on Thursday. (Today was Tuesday). Ok. Some progress. So I ask will someone call me and notify me or do I need to call back, or what? I was told that I would get a text message when they arrive and nothing more was necessary on my part. Thursday comes and goes. No text. Friday comes and goes. No text. They're closed on the weekends and and yesterday was obviously Memorial Day. So I call today to cancel the order, because when the second promised date for my eyeglasses to arrive did not pan out, I made other arrangements. So the receptionist gets 'Tricia?' on the phone. "Hey Steven! Your glasses have been here since Wednesday!" (No apologies, nothing. She almost seemed like it was my fault that I didn't pick up my glasses last week). So I ask her why I was never notified? Then her tune slightly changed. She feigns an apology and blames the 'miscommunication' on what she states is the fault of having just switched text messaging systems? Oh, ok. Tell me anything. Then the abruptness kicks in again. She states that my glasses are in and ready to be picked up. Almost like it's my fault that I didn't pick them up last week, when I wasn't even notified that they were in! Again, I tell her that I wanted to cancel the order and that's when the claws came out. "Well!" She stated sharply. "I have to contact my manager. Someone will contact you as soon as possible." Then she hung up. Very abruptly, very rudely. They appear to be pleasant up front, but, look out! After they get your money, the customer service goes out the window! So, I had actually wanted to update this review, but couldn't find that, so I'm editing this one. I just happened to receive a call from the C.E.O. of EyeCenter, which I greatly appreciated. He expressed how he was very concerned about the treatment that I received. I expressed to him how very satisfied I was with my Dr., it was just the one staff member that I seem to be at issue with, and that, truly, is a shame, because that is the person that you deal with mostly when you go to EyeCenter. My only concern that I feel that still needs attention is there has got to be a better notification system. One text was sent out, (which I did not receive), so my glasses sat at the office for almost a week with no one following up with me to see if/when I was going to pick them up. I received excellent care at Eyecenter Optometric in Gold River. Carina is the most knowledgeable person about choosing eyeglasses that I have ever met. She understands all the different aspects of choosing frames and lenses that are the most optimal for one's prescription, facial structure, and complexion. She was very patient with me as it took several visits before I found the frame I wanted, and she special-ordered several frames for me. I am very happy with my new glasses - they are the best I have ever been able to find. And Carina was lovely to work with. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Coen since I was a kid. He is the only good thing about this office. The last few times I have had appointments here the front office staff is just terrible. They argue with you out in the open and over the phone. My family and I stopped ordering glass from the office because they always lose the frames or mess up the prescription somehow. The last straw was when I spoke with Vonnie about an insurance question. They got my wife's name wrong and it got denied. And instead of taking the blame and apologizing she continued to tell me that it was our fault and wanted to argue about the situation. I arrived early for my appointment there was no one at the desk, so after about 7 mins a young lady finally came to the front and asked if I had been help I said no and stated that I had a 8:20am appointment. I went in for an annual eye exam. I was taken back to a room for some test what I thought were all a part of my exam. After my exam I was sent to the front to pick frames, the lady that was sent to help me asked what type of frames I like them just sat down and pointed to a drawer and then to a rounder with some less expensive ones. I felt like I wasn't getting any help so I just asked for my prescription so I could leave. When I checked out I was told my co pays was $10 and the retinal screening was $39 for a total of $49. I questioned why I have to pay for the retinal screening and she said that insurance doesn't cover it. I said then it shouldn't have be done as it was not clearly stated that I would have to pay extra for it. SO BE AWARE BEFORE YOU GO HERE. The only reason I'm not giving this place 1 star is because the workers here are very nice and professional. But I am extremely upset with this place because I have been a contact lens wearer since I was 13 years old. I'm 22 now, and I expressed to them that I'm financially independent and this is the first year that I will be paying for a year supply of contacts. Even after constantly telling them this information, the doctor and the worker kept convincing me to purchase the higher priced contacts, and even recommended a $2200 contact lens that will correct my vision. I would appreciate if they would recommend lenses that were within my budget, so it was a little frustrating that they would constantly recommend lenses that were double or triple my budget. Now onto why I'm REALLY upset, I paid in full for my years supply of contacts. After a couple days of wearing these, I noticed that the contact becomes SO blurry that it feels like I'm not even wearing contacts. My eyes get extremely dry and fuzzy, and after a couple hours of use in each eye, my eye experiences pain like I've never felt, especially in my right eye. And at night, it's nearly impossible to drive because the contacts give an enormous halo around every single light, making it impossible to see clearly in the dark. I've seen multiple different doctors over the years, and this place was the first place to tell me that I have an astigmatism in my right eye. However, 3 months later after trying to give these contacts a fighting chance, I can no longer put a contact in my right eye, and can let alone close this eye without pain. Sleeping hurts very bad because I can't close my eye, and having to take the contacts out at night feels like an extremely painful suction cup with lasting painful effects. I've had to take multiple days to give my eyes a break, but this doctor 100% did not give me my correct prescription. My eyes are extremely painful, and it's been the hardest 3 months trying to see. Never in my 9+ years of wearing contacts have I ever encountered this issue. I'm going to call on Monday to see if there's a chance to return my contacts or figure out something to settle this. Otherwise, I'm going to have to cut my losses and scrap all my contacts and take out a loan just to pay for a new supply of contacts from a different doctor. I'm not coming back here for my yearly checkup. I do not trust them. read more

THIS is how you run a practice!! Dr. Lee is awesome! After completing my eye exam, he presented me with several options and told that I didn't need what my 'other' eye doctor was trying to prescribe. It was a TRUE doctor/patient consultation. After I selected the route I would go, I met Terri in the dispensary. A true RETAIL experience. Beautiful frames presented in a very upscale setting. I tried on several pair, and instead of Terri trying to upsell me into something more expensive, she was honest about what shapes and styles worked for my face and which ones didn't. I selected a really nice pair of CK frames. She walked me through all my finishing options, navigated through a couple of insurance hiccups, and now I can't wait for my CKs to get in! I've found my eye doctor. Can't wait until January when I can use my benefits again! read more
